It's going to be sooo cold when we go up to GL in Oct. I'm a texas girl born and raised, im not used to cold weather. I'm gunna have to make sure i pack plenty of hoodies/scarfs/coats! lol
I'm so excited to hear about all your letters...none here yet. Staying hopeful one will arrive soon. It's encouraging to hear the news you have all received.
I FINALLY received my first letter today (I am in FL)! So I thought I would update you all. He said he was very sick when he first got there and is sick now but he is taking 2 different medications and now he feel great! He missed his run by 35 seconds but says they have been doing a lot of PT and is confident about passing the next chance. He said they are also doing a lot of marching, folding clothes and making beds and learning a lot of "info". ha ha. He said his first week there was the hardest of his life and he questioned his reasons for being there and all he wanted was to go home...but he said that has passed and now he is glad he is there. He said he has yet to receive any letters (his letter was dated 9/5) but he thought they should be getting them later that day (sunday). That makes me sad to hear because I have sent close to 20 by now I am sure as well as my family and his family and our friends so it's a shame that they hold onto those letters for so long before giving them to the recruits. Other than that, he said the base and the weather are beautiful and that he thinks he will get a call on sunday!
LC girlfriend, I'm with you (sad) that it's unbelievable our guys have not received letters from home until now. Between the girlfriend, me, and various relatives, friends and neighbors, my son should have been getting 2 to 4 letters a day, and it looks like they'll all arrive in a heap at the same time ... he'll be too tired to read them! Hope he opens 'em all, 'cause I put lots of jokes and funny military stuff in them that he could share with his new "family."
@newnavymom....I love his teeth...it is one of my favorite things about him...but I have NO idea how he became dental yeoman or whatever he called it. HILARIOUS! He is a math guy...I can think of 100 things he would rather do than teeth but whatever. He said "it's an important job but not too stressful!". He sounded pretty homesick. Apparently him and a few others wrote letters during p-days but got in trouble for writing when they were not allowed so he made it sound like he no longer had those letters to send to me.
I GOT MY LETTER ! :D sooo excited to see that he's doing well ! the letters should start coming more now (: and Tim was asssigned mail petty officer so he gets to deliver the mail , so he will see the oh so many letters i've sent lol (:
@ gmarie...is you recruit's name Tim? My son's name is Tim also. I just love hearing about these jobs!
@ LC girlfriend...my son is in the same DIV as yours and I wonder if he was also writing a letter and got in trouble....
@ Dillon's mom....I like that picture...it is great that he has a sense of humor. I told my son to have a sense of humor while he is there.....I asked him to draw a cartoon of what it is like to be in bootcamp.
Yay to everyone that got letters!! It is so great hearing about what everyone wrote! I can't wait for mine. I am going to be looking out the windown all day tomorrow for the post man!
Well not only am I bummed about no letter today but also I just looked on facebook for the pic of the week and it seems that because there have been so many specific request for certain divisions they will no longer be posting division numbers along with the pictures after this week....now it's really going to be like finding " where's waldo"
deemedic, LC girlfriend and gmarie1113, I'm so happy for all of you! It's so terrific when you finally receive that letter. You think it is never going to get there! Stevie, don't worry. I'll bet tomorrow you receive a letter! Thank goodness we're finally getting some communication with our families!
Hi 10/15ers!!!! I miss you all!!! I'm REALLY behind and tried to catch up but I don't think I can... so if there's something important you think I can help with... send me a message... okily dokily?
It's been good to be in California... but I miss home. I'll be back to my regular "happy" routine of mail lady stalking and N4M's posting on Monday.
YAY!!!! For all of you who are getting letters!! I'm so hoping to come home to one... or MORE! I'm praying that my baby won't get his chance to call on Sunday when I can't answer my phone... I'll cry my eyes out!!!
Dillon's Mom!!! Oh My Gosh! I need more... what else did he say? ;)
TOTALLY Off topic... but have you all seen that Geico commercial with the little piggy that cried wee, wee, wee... all the way home... ;) Haha... I love that one! It makes me laugh so hard!!
So did I see correctly that our M&G is at Anastasia's Restaurant? Awesome!!!! Count me in for 4... pretty sure hubby's parents will come with us... so better to be safe than sorry. But if they have a limit... let me know. ;)
Tracye... :( That's crazy. They should just ignore the requests... and still post the division! It's sort of useless to us without that. I'll never find my boy. Boo hiss!
Stevie, my son said that the first week was an adjustment, but he said the boot camp activities have been picking up with drills, tests inspections, etc. I guess they are getting used to if thing aren't done just a certain way as my son says, they "hit the black line" That's when they IT (intensive train) them. She'll be okay. I believe they help each other out. I hope you get another letter soon or maybe a phone call!!!!!
@newnavymom....he didnt say he got in trouble he said "others" but he also made it sound like he no longer had whatever letters he wrote so I have no clue how that all went down.
After hearing so many of you say you got two letters I re-checked the mail and I had another one! This one sounded WAY better and he said he got to take a ten minute shower 2 days in a row since they had "holiday time". He said sometimes they are so mean and yell at them all the time but sometimes they are so nice and "cool". He said some people get yelled at more than others. He keeps making it sound like he has this juicy story to share and the suspense is KILLING me. He also said he got my first 2 letters (dated the 22nd!) AFTER they wrote on Sunday.
I got a letter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was quite newsy - which surprised me! LOL! He didn't say anything about having a specific job but he said it's not that bad. He also said the food was good! Oh, and he went off soda before he left because he heard there wasn't any there... but he says in the letter says there is! Oh, and he says he can't wait to go back to boxers... the whitie tighties are not working for him! Sometimes I think TMI! (too much information!)
Hang in there all of you that didn't get letters today - they are sure to be there soon!! HUGS to all!
Ah, its so exciting to read all of this. :) Makes me feel closer to him. Hoping for a letter tomorrow to share with all of you. FINGERS DOUBLE CROSSED!
Oh Pink Helmet!!!! I'm so happy for you.!That's funny about the tightie whities. I know my son wears boxers too, but he didn't say anything Thank God! I'm sending a big hug your way!!!
Hello other moms....I've been sorta hanging out in my son's ship and division group and didn't realize that this PIR 10/15 large group is so active and involved. I feel as though I've been missing some things! I see that Stevie is here. Our kids (her daughter, my son) are on the same ship and in the same division. We got word this week that they all moved off ship 6 and over to ship 2. Renovations on 6 forced the move. So moms of ship 6 are busy learning a new address and switching our profiles out. To Stevie - My son specifically mentions the girls on the ship in his last letter. I got a kick out of it. Mentioned that even though it is the Navy....there are girls....and girls with drama! Not sure what the story is there so I can't wait to ask him. I've received 4 letters as of yesterday. But NO phone calls. Is it silly that I carry my phone to the bathroom and if it rings and it on the table, desk, counter, I will leap over anthing in my path like I'm 16 again to reach the phone? My dashing and diving for the phone has become a source of enterainment for my family. So glad to find all of you!
Good Morning! I'm hoping today is the day you all get your letters! It was such a wonderful thing to find a letter in my mailbox yesterday! Hang in there - we can do this!!!
I'm in CA and I did not get a letter yesterday. I know there is something wrong with our mail here...I think the mail depends on the area. I am going to work hard to be optimistic today. :-)
I have to laugh at KSmom's comment about the phone...I bring mine in with me to meetings at work....nothing is more important than that phone call! I'll admit, I'm a bit dramatic about answering...stopping in the middle of a sentence if need be. Several are retired military and understand. Still haven't got a phone call, but did receive one of my pre-addressed and stamped postcards yesterday! I'm enclosing a few more in his mail this week...what with his "new" writing skills, so crisp and neat he was able to fit quite a bit on that 3x5 card. Looking forward to hearing more news as your letters arrive. They all say something a little different...thank you all for sharing.
Well let's see....I've cleaned house...did laundry....baked a cake( I don't know why) watched some T.V. and now I still have about an hour and a half until the mail comes.....I need a hobby
Nathan's mom...love the scrapebook idea...I have started a scrapebook for my son and have been feeling like I need to work on it. I am going to copy your idea.
Thank You Jesus.
I got two envelopes in the mail today with that lovely all caps from my son.
I got there at 11. Same time as the mail lady. Finally at noon she is done and I have my letters to read.
First letter says it sucks and its hard. And the RDC's are riding his a**.
Second letter Sept. 5th. The first night they got mail and he wrote this before he got all my letters. says it's not so bad. He is getting used to it.
Food is good and he has gotten in trouble three times for talking. Sounds like my baby. LOL
His third letter was that he got all my letters. He says dang mom you can write. LOL
He got to try out for diver on tuesday. I can't wait to hear how he did.
He is having issues with others in the division. He hates having to go poo with 6 others watching him and pooing on their schedule. He hates taking a shower with 35 other people. Poor baby
He says he loves me and he misses me so much. What got me the most is he is going to church. I used to have to drag and fight for him to go to church. I am so thrilled that he is going on his own. Even if it's only so he has something to do besides shine shoes.
He sounds good. I hope the rest of you get your letters today as well.
Yahooooo Rebecca.....I am so happy you received 3 letters : ) I know it must be tough on the boy's sharing so much of their personal space with so many. I'm just glad you know he is doing fine. Sounds like you have a very outgoing young man.
Rebecca, the potty news is hilarious. I have been thinking about my son; before he left for boot camp he told me recruits are not allowed to drink coffee, and without coffee in the morning, well, you know, the bathroom's just not the same for a guy.
Got my first letter today, he left on Aug. 23 ... hope he's been getting my letters (one or even two a day!), he didn't mention it. Said he was sick as a dog, but I don't know if that means still, or was.
Also, I posted this on Ship 12/Div347, but sharing it with you all ... I am MIFFED that somebody talked my son (18, unmarried, no dependants) into buying military life insurance, $28/month translates to $2016 over his 6 year enlistment, should put that money into an IRA instead and have it work for him; parents don't need beneficiary life insurance payout!! But he could sure use an IRA down the road!! It would be different if he were married ... really burns me!! It's a scare tactic dumped on naive young people!! Every financial advisor you'll ever meet will tell you, young single people do not need life insurance!!
I'm so happy for both of you Rebecca and foaling-lady! Rebecca, my son also attended Church which, you are right. You try to get them to go at home then they join the military and go to Church there. Hey but, at least they are goint.
Foaling-lady I'd be mad too. An 18 year old does not need life insurance. He needs to save his money! That's just wrong. Anyway, just enjoy that you received the letters and they are doing well! Have a wonderful day!!!
Foaling lady....So glad you got letters too.
Is there anyway he can cancel that policy?
I know I would be finding that out real quick. He has no need for that. Shame on who ever scammed him.
Yes my son is very out going. He is a hoot. But right now is not the time for his wonderful sense of humor. But so thankful they have not squashed it out of him.
