I feel your pain Dana. My husband (prior Army) doesn’t understand the emotional rollercoaster the BC has been, not just for us the mothers, but also for our boys. My boy had the viral infection at the beginning of his BC added to the fact his 4 wisdom teeth were pulled - he is doing much better now - of course I pretended to be strong, but tell you the true once in a while I do lock myself in my closet and just break down… I think it is healthy to let all those emotions come out…once you have drain them out your body, it make you feel a little big stronger while they recuperate….. I think when they get physically sick they also get a bit discouraged and even angry because they feel that holds them back some how, but I am pretty sure he will be well very soon…. Love that quote!
Hang in there… it is almost over.
Got a letter just letting me know she is really down cause she feels like a failure since she got hurt she sprained a tendon in her left ankle - Hope she gets to call so I can encourage her - she definately needs her spirits lifted shes sick ( thinks a sinus infection) on top of it.. I hate being so far away at times like this :(
me too! i am going to get a card and have everyone i can think of sign it
i sent her a letter the other day with a few notes from a few people to try to boost her spirits and one of the kids she used to babysit for drew her a picture - hope she has gotten that already...
I feel so bad to hear about these recruits that are sick or down with an injury!
@ lindalav...I don't think your daughter is a failure! She is having a minor setback and in the process of getting the injury was pushing really hard!! God bless her...this will pass for her!!
It may sound stupid, but I always say "things happen for a reason" or "it could be worst" of course I also think that when it comes to your children that doesn't help at all.... lindalav - sorry your daughter is going thru this.... We are only 3 weeks away from BC to be over...... we need to pray so our children get better abd get thru this....
For all the boys and girls that are going thru difficult times.... The Sailors’ Psalm
"The Lord is my pilot, I shall not go adrift; He lighteth my passage across dark channels; He steereth me through the deep waters, He keepeth my log. He guideth me by the evening star for my safety's sake. Yea, though I sail mid the thunders and tempest of life, I shall fear no peril for Thou art with me. The vastness of thy sea upholds me. Surely fair winds and safe harbors shall be found all the days of my life; And I shall moor, fast, and secure, forever Amen.
@ Yamile...that you for the Sailor's Psalm, it is beautiful! I agree, I think things happen for a reason. Sometimes we do not always know why at the time...
Well, just home to receive a letter from my SR.....have been worried about him lately, last letter his handwriting was sooooo tiny it was wierd. So, he's been sick. High fever and throwing up! Wahhh....went to the ? and they gave him 2 bags of IV and some antibiotic shots...............oh brother this is hard not to be there to take care of him...........Hope it wont affect his PIR date.
@ Kyle's mom, another sick boy! When my son called two weeks ago and I asked him if he was sick, his response was, "mom, everyone gets sick!" So I'm thinking my son must have been sick too..Didn't they just get another peanut butter shot?
Think I've heard that lots end up with some type of "crud" Sounds like the Navy doesn't mess around and gets them up and running again. He said fire fighting next week and then Battlestations! Cant wait to see him at PIR!!!
DanaMN my heart goes out to you and to lindalav! When our loved ones are sick our motherly instincts kick in and we want to be there to nurse them back to health and cheer them up! I'll keep you in my prayers.! We are almost there! 15 days!!!
A letter from the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY
I just got the chance to go thru my mail of a few days being away.....I don't know if any of you have received this letter, but it statars with a congratulations. Then it goes on explaining the "Processing"; "Training"; "Battle Stations"; and the "Graduation". The disturbing part is that in the "Graduation" paragraph. It says "As of result of recent events, heightened security measures are in effect on all millitary installations. This means that there is the possibility that RTC, GL will be closed for visitors, and guests will not be permitted to vie the graduation ceremony".. :0( ....they encourage us to call before making travel plans..... 3 weeks before graduation? All mine and my family travel plans are done.....
Yamile...thank you for posting the Sailor's Psalm. :) I haven't received that yet but maybe it's just an info letter with things that could happen. I hope so anyway! I would think if there was something major they would maybe post in on the RTC Facebook page... MAYBE?
Kyle's mom - HUGS!!! I hope your boy gets better very fast!!
Thanks, Winniesam! I need your boy to shoot on over to Div 343 and check on my recruit! ;)
"You are invited to take pictures while inside the drill hall for graduation; however, any photography outside of the drill hall is strictly prohibited, including camcorders and mobile phones. Security will take your camera!"
Yamile, that letter makes me shiver ... did it have a date on it? If we can't see our son at graduation, I'll be a wreck. Waiting for 10/15 is the only thing that keeps me going since my son left.
No idea what could be taking place...... As much as we are saturated with news, we never get to know what is really taking place until it happens,
Yes, there is are a couple of phone numbers to call. Not sure if it will be ok to post here....
This means that there is the possibility that RTC, GL will be closed for visitors, and guests will not be permitted to vie the graduation ceremony".. Like Dana say, let's hope it is just an information letter.....
The letter was posted on 9/23. I will call tomorrow first thing in the morning and will post anything I found out, but I doubt that they will be able to give a definite answer just yet....
Well remember they always said to buy a refundable ticket and I also read somewhere that we won't be able to download a parking ticket until 11 days before graduation...
In any case let’s remain positive..... Most probably everything will be ok and we will have not issues...... I am flying to Chicago on 10/14 no matter what, anyway :-)
I will see you then... I will be arriving O'Hare International Airport I think by 11:00 am. Then I have to wait for my mother, my sister and his glfd they will arrive one after the other one.
We arrive at 12:30pm and are going straight to the hotel to check in. My brother lives around Chicago so we are planning on meeting up with his family that afternoon.....the girlfriend comes in the next morning. Where are you staying?
Oh my gosh sooo excited ! just got airline tickets squared away we're flying out of bwi at 9 am and staying until sunday night :D i cant wait to see him 15 days ! it went by pretty quickly ! did anyone get letters ? i didnt and im curious to know how hell week id going for them
lol it's not too bad, it's fire fighting training , arms training, and the gas chamber. Besides the chamber,Tim said it would be fun if it was anywhere but there loll. meaning it would be fun if the RTC's didnt yell at them
Gas chamber!? See, I told you I was afraid to get the answer! What our poor SR's are going through! I'm so proud of them. Well, if they can hang in there......so can I, tears and all! Thanks for the info! ")
Hi everyone! I got another letter today. My son said he was glad his div. got to call on Saturday because he was so frustrated and talking to me calmed him down and gave him the energy he needed! I love that boy! But he didn't say anything about battlestations or anything. So we'll just have to wait and see! I'm going to Chicago on Oct. 10th and staying the week so I'd be pretty PO'd if we couldn't get to see our sailors.
Never thought I'd say this but I hope my son DOESN'T call on Thursday .. our home phones are down and Verizon is coming out Thurs to check out the situation; I have had the home number forwarded to my cell for 2 weeks but the phone service will be shut down while they're testing ... murphy's law that that's when he'll probably try to call home! Here's hoping he calls on the weekend instead! By the way, that's an awesome quote by JFK, I just put that in a letter to my son tonight and told him the moms on N4M's are the greatest.
Yea! Winniesam it feels so good to get mail...doesn't it? I share letter time with the girlfriend so I don't get them every week. You are probably exactly what he needed to hear to get grounded again. bravo!
Foaling-lady keep your fingers crossed that it will be this weekend! I will keep mine crossed too!
The graduates for 10/ 2 and 10/8 are still going so i dont see why they would suddenly change this for the PIR 10/15!! Im sure everything will work out !! dont worry everyone stay positive!!!!
This is a repost of Dudesgirls comment: I deleted it because she used last names.
I got two letters today, mainly about how much he missed me and our plans. He says the cafeteria ladies are the nices people on the campus. they make great food and feed everyone well. my bf thinks now he is not grad and go because he has to stay an extra 10 days in GL. my bf has aced (highest scorer on all tests in div) all tests. He got to shoot a 9mm pistol and 12 gauge shot gun. WATCH OUT! lolHe is dying to put the engagement ring on my **** finger lol He does know Dillons Mom's recruit and DanaMN's recruit, he helped DanaMN'swith ironing clothing. He says next three weeks consists of testing, Fire fighting, gas chamber, and Battle Stations. and he explained what battle stations was. (which I already knew lol)He says RDC's joke around more and have fun. He really misses drinking beer. lol :p He is going to graduate as an E-3 or higher.
Did anyone see the comment on Facebook about the letter that someone recieved concerning security and no graduation guest? It said it was a form letter, DanaMN I saw you commented, maybe you can explain the reply better for everyone.. :)
I'll just post the RTC's reply: basically it says Don't worry - there's nothing going on now. :)
"If you look at the top of the letter, you will see this was NOT generated by Recruit Training Command, rather, it comes from various recruiting offices. There is always a chance for heightened security measures on any given U.S. military base at any given time, thus, there is always the chance that in case of a security threat, the base would be closed. The letter simply gives guests the heads-up to such a scenario. Otherwise, graduations take place as scheduled."
Andrewsmom, I am staying at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott Waukegan/Gurnee location.
I, like you shared letter time with his glfd, but I don’t mind as long he stays motivated and I think now that he know he is going to Groton, CT he must be jumping on one leg, since his glfd leaves there….
I regards to the BS, it scares me just to think this will be the determine factor for them to graduate on time.
“Graduations take place as scheduled” Thanks Dana – and I am sorry if I made anyone upset :-( …..
Dillons Mom – I learned my lesson last Saturday when my son called….. I did not have my phone on me…. Now, like you, I don’t move an inch with out it. :-)
proudmonBethann – my son is Div 342, and he told me on Saturday when he called that he will be stationed in Groton, CT for 18 months
Iluvmysailor377 – So 347 Div is also going to Groton, CT. Maybe the get stationed according to their jobs?
I see that 348 Div is also going to CT….JudyCO what is your son’s job?
I just got two letters from Marion. Yippie
First letter was the 20th and he had just had surgery to have his wisdom teeth pulled. He said he was high and sleepy but wanted to let me know they cut his lip off. OMG!!
Next letter was the 21st said he was sorry and he was high from the medication. They did not cut his lip off but they did cut his lip..He got six stitches and is scarred for life. My poor baby. I bet he still has cute lips...lol He did tell me not to worry. YEAH RIGHT!!!
He could not change his job so he is still HT. He is ok with that. But he will not be grad and go. AWESOME!!!!

I'll be so glad when this is over. I'm sure hoping for that phone to ring for a GOOD reason and to hear from my boy that he's ok.
Yes, I agree... a good cry does help! I'm feeling a little better now.
