what if they are styaing in GL for an extra 10 days... what happens??
  • Dudesfiance(USNSailor)

he is going to Pen. FLorida
  • DanaMN ~Kris's Mom~NCTS SanDiego

Dudesgirl - He's still likely going to be considered part of RTC as they aren't releasing him to A School right away so I don't think he'll get any special privileges. I think he'll have to report back to RTC each night for the weekend and then after that just wait to be sent to A School. During that time I'm guessing no visitors.
  • Twin Sailors Mom

Hi all! I have been following the PIR 10/08/10 and it has been so exciting! Good Luck to all of you, your PIR is right around the corner! My daughters PIR is 10/29/10 and will be performing at your PIR.
  • DanaMN ~Kris's Mom~NCTS SanDiego

Hi Twinsmom - What will your daughter be doing? Maybe we can try to get pictures for you... that would be neat, huh?

    HUGS!!!
  • diannep

Dudesgirl: I agree with Dana. He will not be able to have his cell/laptop because he will be at RTC until flown out. Also, I know ones who are held for a while do not always get liberty each day.after the weekend...not even phone calls. That happened to a mom I know...they stayed until her son left on a Wed after PIR, but the two days prior to him leaving, they couldn't see him and no phone calls.
  • Connie foaling-lady (Groton)

Hi Twinsmom, my son (10/15) has a best friend in PIR 10/29 who will be performing in our graduation ceremony, he's a drummer, can't wait to get him on video /photos for his mom ... she has to wait 2 more weeks to see him! Funny, cause they shipped out on the same day Aug. 23 but went different directions once at Great Lakes. Cool thing is, his 19th birthday is 10/29, how special!!!
  • Judy Proud Mom

Ok, Ladies, I took a HUGE leap of faith today and packed my suitcase! I am feeling so calm today, and hoping it is God talking to me. :)
  • Dudesfiance(USNSailor)

great.. that really boosted my excitement in going... now i feel like I just want to cry... this navy thing sucks... I love him to death, I just wish now he never joined...
  • Dudesfiance(USNSailor)

well i am only staying till sunday, will he at least have liberty over PIR weekend??
  • DanaMN ~Kris's Mom~NCTS SanDiego

Dudesgirl - Hang in there. I'm sure you'll feel much better after you get to spend Friday, Saturday and Sunday with him and that will cheer you up. He'll have to be back at base at night though.

Another good thing is that I heard from another mom that she mailed her sons cell phone, etc to him on a Saturday and he got it on Monday! So as soon as he has his address in Pensacola then you can mail him his things. Before you know it he'll have his phone and will be able to keep in touch.

Keep in mind that this is a very good job. The economy is not so good right now. Being in the military is a privilege and he's made a great choice. Part of being a military wife or fiance or girlfriend involves supporting your Sailor. It'll be difficult sometimes to be separated and he'll look to you for strength and stability. He will be able to provide well for a future family. Please don't be discouraged by the negatives because the positives far outweigh them!!
  • Navy Wife K

Dudesgirl, we only have a few more days until we see them. I know how you feel because you miss him. Just hang in there! Not much longer! 4 days! :)
  • Dudesfiance(USNSailor)

ok... Im just really frustrated right now.. I am soo nervous to see him but yet soo excited. I am nervous to go out into the world across sees. I just really want him home and know that he is safe. That is how much I care about him. I just miss talking to him and everything and these furture months and more months of him being gone, is going to be hard. These two months were already hard enough.
  • Dudesfiance(USNSailor)

  • Judy Proud Mom

I just had the second best thing besides seeing my son happen, A mom from my son's 10/8 div sent me a copy of the group picture, and my son was in it! I got to see my son! It helps so much!
  • Twin Sailors Mom

This is all so exciting for you all and I can't wait until it is my turn! My daughters shipped out 8/24 and for some reason they are at BC a week longer. I guess some moved ahead a week and some moved back a week, because I don't believe there is graduation 10/22.
DanaMN - The twins are in the "wedge", there 3 of them, my two and a male in the center with a sword. They stand alone. The one twin wears a microphone and the other does not but says she speaks also. They want it to be a surprise, so they aren't telling me much. We saw a couple pictures on facebook from the PIR 10/8/10. I have to say I was so excited to see them and I miss them so much and can't wait to see them in person.
Good Luck in BS21! Your SR's will do great! Prayer to you all...
  • diannep

Dudesgirl: YES! Weekend liberty for sure for him!
  • diannep

YAH JUDY! You needed some good news! And...more good news will be coming when he gets well, passes the PFA...and is a sailor!
  • diannep

    Congrats,Yamile! Hooyah!

Lost another sailor, from my area, on Friday. Praying for all of our military who are in harms way. He was a corpsman embedded with the Marines in Afghanistan.
  • lindalav

Congrats Yamile I knew he would do it!
Dudesgirl- it will get easier after he has his cell back and has e mail contact again- we all have to get used to not hearing from our sailors for streches of time as they may be deployed for months on end also so support your guy and he will do well.
  • Dudesfiance(USNSailor)

thanks well I hope I feel better because it feels worse this morning, sore throat is gone, tummy is being turny and head is quite congested. Can't wait to hear from my baby wednesday. it will really make my day. I bet it will with everyone else. Thank you for the support, as I am here to support your recruits too.
  • Kelly (Pink) Curtis' Mom

Good Morning All! Congrats to 348 for wining the Captain's Cup!! I've been off the site all weekend and just trying to catch up this morning. I'm feeling so emotional today. I didn't get a letter last Thursday (I'm telling myself that he was busy writing others). I'm missing that kid something fierce right now - and I'm nervous for tomorrow night. I just hope they all do well. I can't believe it's THIS FRIDAY! What a roller coaster of emotions...

Thank you all for your support and encouragement on this site... it's made a world of a difference for me and I can't wait to meet you all on Thursday!! :)
  • timsmom submariner

Pink, I didn't get a letter on Thursday either. :-(
I am thrilled that BC is coming to an end! I'm hoping they do well on BS also and cannot wait to talk to my son about all his experiences from the last eight weeks. I have a crazy next two days.....Wednesday I'm heading out on my way to GL.

In regard to the M&G, should I be making a ribbon or name tag?
  • Nicksproudmom A-school!!

I agree, Im very emotional this morning...I guess its the anticipation of the next few days, I have been crying all morning. I can not wait to hug my son and just enjoy him for a few days.
Everyone please have safe travels, you all will be in my prayers.
  • lindalav

I expect to see alot of pics and what not ladies and gentlemen.. I am patiently waiting for a new PIR date for nikki
  • misty (SR gf/Ship12/Div348)

I'll second that lindalav...I won't be able to go to graduation to see my boyfriend :( Hopefully others in division 348 will post some pics!
  • diannep

Dudesgirl: Once he has his cell in A School, you can stay in contact much more and it relieves alot of anxiety. But remember....bc is getting you ready for 'deployments" where they can be gone for months without a whloe lot of contact. Having a loved one in the military is not easy....we all have to be very strong and supportive!
  • merchantvillesteve

Lesson Learned we should all be careful with ID's Credit Card Numbers etc. I get at least a case a day on Credit Card Fraud etc. there are good websites out there, and no discount is worth compromising your security.
  • merchantvillesteve

Does anyone have the street address for RTC so I can plug it into my GPS?
  • timsmom submariner

I have the address where we send letters...
    3515 Sailor Drive
    GL, IL 60088-3515
  • Kelly (Pink) Curtis' Mom

I think this is the main address for Recruit Training Command ~ 3355 Illinois Street, Great Lakes, IL 60088
  • Dudesfiance(USNSailor)

ya i know i will have to go months at a time without speaking to him. I understand that it is going to b hard, and i know i am not the only one feeling this way either :( I hope all goes well with BS 21 tomorrow night !!! cant wait for sailor call!!!
  • Navy Wife K

Me too! Can't wait for the SAILOR CALL! :)
  • marsyt03

Got my Sailor call last Friday, Molly (12/342). She was very emotional about it and we were crying. Said she hadn't sent any more letters , too busy. Can't wait to see her on Friday!!! Good luck to everyone and have safe trips to GL. See you at Anatascia's.
  • Proudma Groton CT sub school

Hi Ladies. My name is Laurie. My son graduated PIR on 9/17/2010. I was just looking at some of your comments remembering when PIR was this close and how stressed, excited, happy, scared, etc., I was. Just hang in there ladies. My son did the BS21 the night before I was leaving for Chicago. Should I wait should I go -- I can assure you that all will graduate. They make sure of it. So relax and enjoy your weekend. It will be the most exciting thing you have seen since they were born. Get ready for the changes, for there are many, but you will find yourself just silently staring at them seeing how much they have accomplished in such a short amount of time. Our PIR group was great with lots of information on getting there, gps coordinates, things to do while you are will your sailor, what to bring for them that they might need. It's a wonderful place for great information. Enjoy seeing your sailor and take plenty of pictures. Don't think to far ahead of yourselves. My son is in Groton CT. He has already earned the rights to wear civilian clothes outside the base and can stay out until midnight now. I talk to him or txt or FB just about every day so it is a whole new experience after you can have contact. Prayers and best wishes to all of you and your sailors!!
  • Lynne

Hey All!! Greetings from the 11/5/2010 PIR group! We wanted to tell you safe travels and best wishes as you begin your trips to Chicago. How excited each of you must be! I am sure your hearts are beating with anticipation. I can only imagine the pride that will fill your hearts and the smiles that will cross your face as you watch your sailors on Friday! I know this has been a long road and to each of you I just want to say Bravo Zulu...Well Done! You have truly learned to be NAVY strong and earned the right to be NAVY proud! God bless each of you!!
  • Kelly (Pink) Curtis' Mom

Thanks for your insight Proudma!! It's nice to hear there will be sanity after graduation! :) All the best to you and your Sailor!
  • Connie foaling-lady (Groton)

Laurie, thank you much much much for the soothing words. You're right, this is just the beginning, we should not overthink things (that's what makes us moms, I guess?). I'm already worrying about what will happen when my son's 6 year enlistment ends, when he gets married, when he has kids ... whoa nellie! He's only 18! Anyway, congrats to you and your son for navigating successfully thru step one of this Navy adventure.
  • lindalav

I walked outside for 10 minutes and missed her call :/ Hope she gets another shot to call me again!
  • timsmom submariner

@Proudma - Thanks for all your encouragement and insight! It brought tears to my eyes hearing about the changes that these recruits will experience. I have a bunch of different emotions, I'm nervous, worried, happy, I'M FREAKING OUT! WITH EXCITMENT TO GET THAT CALL ON WEDNESDAY! I'm hanging on just a little bit longer.....BRAVO ZULA TO ALL!
  • Kelly (Pink) Curtis' Mom

I hope so too Lindalav.... hang in there! Sending a big HUG your way.
  • timsmom submariner

@Lindala - auugh you missed her call...I hope she call back!
  • LindaB(Ant'sMom)10/15

I got to Chicago last night and hubby and I are doing some sightseeing for a few days. Then we head to Waukegan on Wednesday. Good luck to Div. 343-344 and 948 with Battle Stations tomorrow! We'll be praying for you! Can't wait to meet you all on thursday and really can't wait for Friday!!!!!
