Chris - GREAT for his wife and you!  Woow thats like a whole year!!   ugggg

Kyles - I guess I did not realize it or remember but your son must be in school with mine cause he also has the two weeks left.  Im sure they know each other of course and my B said that a couple of his best buddies are going to VA - wonder if your boy is one of his friends.  He said that one of his buddies bought a Hyundai (cant remember how to spell that)  is that your boy??  My B just bought a pick up to drive to CA..  4 days oh no... I hope they give him more than that cause he was gonna come see me in TX on the way but not if 4 days is all they give them!  =0(   sniff sniff

Kevin - no they are not given any choices.  We were thinking that since B won the Honormen award and has made straight A's in A school so far.... that maybe he could chose but NOPE!  They assign them as they wish.  He did want to go to CA so that is good he got that.  Im soo excited that your son is classing up....  now the fun begins!  hahahah  (sarcastic smile!)

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Lydia-Is your sailor finding A school difficult? Does he have to study much?

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Kevin - He is making a 95/98 in there but yes... lots of studying and paying close attention.  He said that it is very interesting stuff not boring so that is good.
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

garden - welcome!!!  We are here for you!!  No actually mine is about done in Pcola yes but still has FRAC and SERE!!  This is a great place for info... we can help you!  Its a lot of waiting and nail biting hahaha!
  • NavyWife10

Are there any wives here?!  Just trying to find some company for when the daughter and I move in a few weeks! =]
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

CsW - I know that there is a Navy wife group..Not all RSS of course but Ill bet it would be a good one for you to join as well as here and Pcola...  Of course you know you are welcome here to... does not matter to us !!  Check up in the Groups tab...
  • gabbyhat

Hadn't posted recently...was waiting to get some news from my daughter...she failed her retest on escapes and releases last week...told to go to medical as she was 'sick as crap' with bronchitis and severe left ear infection...wouldn't go cause she didn't want to roll out, which happened anyway cause she was so run down...now on antibiotics times 2, musinex and cough syrup, so much better...had her review board today...told her that the only thing holding her back was some lack of confidence...need to come in there with a 'mess this crap' up, not their words she said but I'm cleaning it up a little...lol. She starts back again with next class on Monday...ready to get after it...
  • Jill (ATO Mom)

Yeah gabbyhat! She'll own it this time! Glad she got to roll and wasn't dropped. Definitely will be praying for her!
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Gabby - great that they are letting her back in!  Super!  Sometimes they are just not so kind!  hoooooyaaaaa Sailor girl!  Go git her done!  whoop whoop
  • Kyle's mom

WoW Gabbyhat, your daughter must be really something!  I will send her power X100 for escapes and releases.  The powers must see alot in her to keep her.  Momma Navy will get her well and we will send her power!

Lydia - Kyle's A school is only 3 weeks, compressed.  He is sierra.  Not sure if any of his friends going to Norfolk are rescue swimmers.  Good to know he will be with a bunch of newbies up there.  He bought a Pontiac G6.

Kevin - Kyle does a lot of studying, lives and breathes A school all week.

  • gabbyhat

Thanks so much ladies for all the positive thoughts...she called me this afternoon...sounds so much better...gets off med hold on Friday...then Monday is ON!!!
Wow, Kyles...3week A school...your son must be studying like gangbusters...wonder why they r compressing the school?
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Kyles... hummmmm - three weeks... I think Bs has already been 5 and next week is the normal 6th week...  not sure Ill ask him about a guy with a Pontiac G6 - he will know that for sure! hahahah   Ask your boy about a Ford F 150 Black and chrome.  hahahahahaha   He is Sierra also.  initials are B. Mc  awe heck tell him he is the one who got the honormen at RSS grad... your boy will know about that!  Anyway - proud of your boy and all our Sailors... gabbys girl too!  whooooooop whoooooop!  Gosh we moms need an award dont yall think?!?!?!?!  Im pooped!
  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Gabbyhat-so glad your daughter is feeling better and ready to start again.  They definately see something in her they like to let her roll into another class.  And I'm sure she will see the silver lining in being rolled back.  My son also got rolled back a class for failing escapes & releases, and quite frankly, it was the best thing that happened to him.  He was so much stronger the second time around, and much more confident.
  • gabbyhat

Thanks Kevin's mom...I agree...now that she is on the mend, I hope that will help her as well! I can't remember...is your son in the middle of A school? And is he going east coast?
  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Right now he is waiting to class up for A school.  He will be Sierra when he does class up, and he is hoping when he is done that he will get to go to San Diego for FRAC.  We are hoping for that as well since we live on the west coast.
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Kyles...  B is classed for SERE June 6th....  fyi

Kevin.... oh I hope he gets Cali too how great for yall!!!!!!!  Its about 50 50 Im told.. half Bs class went VA half went Cali

gabby....  how is she doing ???  Almost all well??

  • gabbyhat

    Hi ladies...
Kevinsmom, sure hope he get SD, would b great since y'all are already out there...BTW, what part of Cali? Heading out to Guerneville and South Lake Tahoe in May...

Hi Lydia, sounds like B is moving on...congrats on the str A's!!! K is better, though still a little congested and wheezy...doc told her it'd take at least 10 days so hopefully by end of weekend...particularly since she ramps back up on Monday...day 5 of antibiotics...
  • CaliMom (Maryann)

So my son classed up yesterday.  He is on the Sierra platform, so with a 6 week platform, unless the Navy keeps in him on hold for a month after class ends (which I doubt), he will be long gone before we get in the area.  Since we already have our plane tickets, we are making alternate plans on what to do with the extra time we expected to be spending with him.  Of course, if he goes to Norfolk after, instead of the San Diego I am hoping for, then that is not too far away for a visit.  Wait and see I guess.
  • CaliMom (Maryann)

@gabbyhat-We live in a suburb outside of Sacramento.  You will love south lake tahoe, if you haven't already been. It is beautiful, and hopefully most of the snow will have melted by then.  The mountains got alot of snow this year (160% of normal), so I know when that has happened in the past, there are people snow skiing in June & early July.
  • CaliMom (Maryann)

@Lydia-So will he be in San Diego while he waits to go to SERE, or will he be on hold in P'cola and then go on to FRAC after SERE? Just wondering, if he will be on hold for SERE, then FRAC, there still may be a chance we can visit my son at the beginning of June.
  • gabbyhat

All right KevinH...classed up and raring to go...know he's happy to be moving on...my gfs' and I did an annual vacation out in North Lake Tahoe two years ago in July...just loved it...so beautiful..and wearing a sweatshirt in July when you live in Houston was so much fun...we flew into Sacramento cause it was cheaper at the time than Reno...had to wait on other friends comingnfrom D.C. So visited your river walk area and had dinner...really enjoyed ourselves...one gf loved it so much they bought an investment/vacation town home at Tahoe Keys Resort...spending a week with them and a week on the Russian river...with the husbands this time...
  • Andysmom

HOOYAH! Andy classed up for RSS. Starts Monday :) Keeping my fingers and toes crossed!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

New week!!  Hope everyone does well and passes and others get classed up!!  My son will be home to see me Friday night on his way to Cali!  whoopie!
  • gabbyhat

Awww Lydia.....u lucky woman!!!!enjoy your visit with your boy!!!
  • Kyle's mom

Lydia - Enjoy your visit!  hug him lots!  Mine grads A School Friday, leaves pcola Friday, and reports in VA on Monday!!!!!  I'm a little worried about the quick trip.  Thats a lot of miles in a car by yourself.  Momma Navy is usually more safety conscious.  He goes on hold when he gets to VA.  ??????????

  • Linda (Proud Navy Mom)

Enjoy your son Lydia. Happy for you that you get to see him on his way to CA.
  • Linda (Proud Navy Mom)

Kyle's mom - Safe trip to your son. Hopefully he will keep in regular contact with you so you don't have to worry too much.
  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Lydia-so happy you get to see your son, even if it is only for a little while.

Kyle's mom-hope your son stays safe on the way to the next leg of his adventure.

How are the sailors in RSS doing?

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

    brmaerie - congrats!!!!!!

Kevin - yes Ill take anything!!!

Proud - how is your Sailor??  Any news on classing up?

Kyles -  That is not much time is it... I suppose if they fly its not problem but driving is a different story.  I think they are giving my son 5 days to get to Calilf.  We will keep them both in prayers for traveling mercies!!!!!!  B will be on hold in Calif too... orders are SERE June 6th I think it was ...

  • Linda (Proud Navy Mom)

My Sailor is still on hold. He hasn't heard a thing, which I guess is how it works. He has bought a car and a bike and is liking the freedom of that. Spent Saturday at the beach with friends.
  • sweetpea4

My Son will be starting Rescue Swimmer School soon. Anybody have a time line on training? Is it 6 months in Pensacola?
  • Linda (Proud Navy Mom)

sweetpea4 - Hi. My son has been in Pensacola since early February and has been on hold waiting to class up. The others here can probably say how long the whole process has taken their Sailor that are further along.
  • sweetpea4

Thanks, I know its just a guessing game. Have to remain flexible. Just curious
  • Kyle's mom

sweetpea4 - My son arrived in Pcola 10/16 and is leaving for VA on Friday 4/8.  Will be on hold in VA for SERE and FRAC.  So 6 mos is a reasonable estimate, every Sailor's timeline is different though and orders change sometimes.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Hi sweetpea!!!  Yup I go with Kyle's mom.  My son arrived Pcola on 09-02-2010.  He classed up NACCS in late October.  Then classed up RSS in mid December.  Finished that 2nd week Jan.,  classed up Sierra A School first part of March.  Grads A school this Friday and is heading to Cali.  So 6 - 7 months sounds about right.  Maybe less.  I understand now that holidays are well over, the hold time is not quite as long as the Sailors who started last quarter of last year.  Holidays threw them off a little.
  • sweetpea4

Hey Ladies thank you very much. We are trying to plan a wedding so this is a big help!! Thank you!
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Hi Curtsmom!!  Yes super excited to see him Friday night and Saturday.. I sent him driving directions so hopefully he will have a good peaceful NO INCIDENT drive on his way there.  Gosh I did not realize it was cold there right now.  Ill have to check the weather channel..  Glad your boy is enjoying FRAC!!  B is on hold for SERE June 6th so I guess that means SERE first for him then FRAC?  dunno how that works??
  • Andysmom

My son is rocking RSS so far. By day 2 they lost 2 people of the group. Still keeping my fingers crossed :)
  • Linda (Proud Navy Mom)

My son starts NACCS tomorrow. Yah!
  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Andysmom-that is good news.  Just keep encouraging him!
  • Andysmom

Curtsmom...Since they started working them out in Starboard D, preparing them for RSS, there's been alot less of a turnover. Andy is very proud of his group. Alot of competative swimmers and runners. My son is a "middle of the road" person and has worked SO hard to prepare for RSS. I'm glad he updates me daily. So much of the lingo cracks me up...I make him put it in lay mens terms for me. All I can say, it best of luck to everyone in RSS! And to all the moms that support our guys and girls :)
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Curtsmom - yup my son Florida baby too!

Andys - crossing fingers for you too!

    Proud - hooooooyaaaaaaa -

    Kevins - Almost Friday!!!!!   =0D

There are so many more moms and a dad that dont ever post here any more.. I wonder why?  If this kids dropped or what?  I miss them!

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

I have had my suspicions confirmed....my son leads a charmed life!  He took his first test in A school this week.  He finished the coursework, but did not study for the test and ended up with the highest grade in the class.  He is extremely smart and has done this pretty much all his life.  If he ever studied for anything he would probably be pretty scary with how well he would do! LOL

  • Christi

Lydia, I'm here...I keep tabs on what's going on, just don't post much since my son is in squadron and has been for some time now. He's approaching year 4 in the Navy, says he's thinking about staying in. I hope so, we all know there are few jobs in the civilian world. Anyways, I watch all the postings just don't have much to add. You're doing a great job at helping all these Navy Mom's support their sons/daughters...keep up the good work!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Christi - Oh thank you!!!!  I hope, like you, that he will stay in..  im praying the same for my son when the time comes.  I just hope this govt budget get resolved or there will be some very angry service men and women.. especially the married ones who must support their families on paycheck to paycheck!  Anywhooo - thank you I like being here!
  • gabbyhat

Stil here as well...K doesn't roll back in to Andysmom's son's class til tomorrow...she's team leader in Starboard D right now...feeling better and looking forward to rolling back in....
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

gabby - hahah you are one of the frequanter's in here..  But there use to be a lot more from last years PIRs - hope they are all okay.  Glad she is happy and better!
