  • NavyWife10

Lydia- I'm here.  I'm just so caught up in all of this government shutdown crap, I can't even function and think straight.  I'm completely terrified at the thought of what my husband and I will do with no paychecks.  =[
  • mom2four

I am still here, after a great graduation last Friday and a nice day with our sailor, he left Saturday morning and we started to drive home... should get there tomorrow. He sounds like he is doing well in FL and is excited to start class soon.
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

bsmom - I hear you ... we survive on my Vietnam Vets income...  hang in there!

CsW - you hang in there tooo little lady... I have a feeling all will be okay.. if not your hubbys command will scramble to keep you a okay.  That is what they do

sweetpea... no offense and I am more or less a republican (not suppose to discuss politics here but) its not just the Democrates this time... ALL THE KIDS IN THE SAND BOX need to get along... ALL of them... lets pray for unity in our Congress.. Each one has valid points, however.... they must reach a middle ground like marriage I think... we give but we take.... It must be a joint effort...

mom2four... whoooooooooooooop  soo excited ... dont wait sooo long to post yall... when you do your worry me... Im thinking okay whats going on whats wrong???

So, Im thinking that there will be a decision made or another Stop Gap (uggg)  If Im wrong.. well??  Then Im wrong... but Imma hold out for our country and her leader for today... midnight will tell the tale...  Thank you God for blessing America "Land that I love.. stand beside her and guide her.........."

  • Christi

Lydia, well said! I happen to agree that it's the whole lot of them...and I am a registered democrat!!! Holding out hope in TN and the great US of A that they ALL get their act together and soon for all sake!
  • Kyle's mom

Son graduating A School today!  WHOOP!! and leaving for Norfolk as well.  He bought a GPS yesterday for the trip, he will have a long ride on to the next stage of training!  Bravo Zulu!
  • Christi

Kyle's Mom - Congratulations to him and to you! Whoohoo!!
  • ochaos

I am still here as well, my son arrived with C's husband and they are on hold.  Any advice for those on hold?  Son is not used to just waiting around for things to happen and I am still trying to figure it all out.  Any words of wisdom for those of us new to this would be great.
  • Linda (Proud Navy Mom)

ochaos - I think that is the challenge for most of them, figuring out what to do with themselves while on hold. My son bought a bike and did extra workouts every day. He joined a triathalon team. I sent him books, which he said he read and enjoyed. He even took a yoga class.
  • ochaos

Thanks for the advice, I will pass it on.
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Kyles... my boy is in Alabama heading toward Texas as we speak - on his way to Cali... He is well was aggrivated that the red tape took so long as now he wont make it here till about 10 or 11 tonight... but he is GREAT!!!  He said their grad pix was badass. so I cant wait to see it!!!!!!

ochaos... yes what Proud said... problem is they have to be better than just "fit" they have to rule it... own it... so tell him to kick butt with PT... swimming...  flutter kicks... breath holding... etc...  etc... work out PT and water.

  • Jill (ATO Mom)

I know that compared to our military not possibly not receiving paychecks in the event of a government shutdown, this is just a minor inconvenience... but I still found it amusing... my daughter can not take her PST for rescue swimmer on monday because the lifeguards at the San Diego base where she would have to take it are civilians and in the case of a shut down will not be paid.  Therefore, they have cancelled all PST's indefinitely!  If it isn't one thing, it's another.  I told her it's just one more week to shave a few seconds off her swim and run!  Hopefully she'll get that contract soon so she can really start moving toward her goal.

Good luck to all those in the pipeline wherever they might be... keep up the good work!

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Well Jill, you certainly can't question the devotion to her decision to join the Navy and be a rescue swimmer.  She certainly is working hard enough just to get the contract.
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Jill - she is learning patience for sure and in the Rescue Swimmer Pipeling... she will need it.

My son B just grad Sierra A school..  he is right this minute sleeping on my couch yippie  He was able to stop by on his way to California!  He will leave this am though  =0(  His grad date is the end of November his orders say.  So that means that he will have been in the pipeline for 16 months!

  • gabbyhat

Jill, tell your girl to hang in there, just a little glitch...she's persevered this long so should just be a litlle bump in the road...

Awww Lydia, asleep on the couch...hope u got some good hugs and talk time with your boy...! Safe driving for him the rest of the way to Cali...when is he supposed to report in?
  • TexasMomof2

Advice to those on hold?  Use it to their advantage. Take that time to increase their PT and be in tip-top shape.  AND, it's a lesson to learn in patience.....cuz it will not be the last time that it's hurry up and wait in the Navy.  :o)

My son will be in Norfolk on May 25th for his final orders.  His journey started July 6th, 2009 when he left for boot camp.  Sooooo, 2 months short of it being 2 years.  Very very proud of him as I am of ALL of our young men and women!  Makes my heart warm & fuzzy!

  • TexasMomof2

And, Jill, WOW!  I'm very impressed any time I read of what you post on your beautiful daughter....she will go far!

Lydia, I'm so glad you have had your son home......even if it isn't as long as you'd really like.  Those times are precious.  My son left a couple of weeks ago after being home for 1 week.  The last time I saw him prior to this was at Christmas.  So, in the last year, he's been home for a total of 3 weeks.  He comes back home in the middle of May to pack up his belongings he has stored at our house to then take to Norfolk for his "final" orders.

I don't post often but I do read to try and keep up with everyone, love it!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Texas - great to see you sista!!!  B just left this am... it was short but sweet !!!!

gabby - they actually gave him 6 days to get there.. but I did not want him fighting Houston, San Antonio Monday traffice so he left on peaceful Sunday morning.  We had a great time.. he is meeting up with some buddies so they will caravan to Cali which makes mommie sooooooooo happy!

  • gabbyhat

Lydia, so glad y'all had a great time...and yeah, better to leave today..I10 across the better part of four more states...better to have company!!!
  • Christi

Lydia, I'm so glad to hear that your son was home even for a short while. Does the heart good to get a hug from our kids! Even though my son is in squadron, I haven't seen him since Christmas and before that was May of last year....just don't get to see him as often as I'd like. When he did his move to Cali he also drove with a few of his buddies, makes the drive a little less hard and they had fun along the way too.
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

How is everyone.... kinda gets quiet in here these days????

Christi - I know what you mean!

  • gabbyhat

    Escapes and releases test today!
  • Kyle's mom

Whoa Gabbyhat!  Strength and perseverence to your sailor for the grueling test today.  Good thing they practice lots!

Kyle made it to Norfolk, all checked in, beat in the pool this morning (on hold, of course).  He sounds very happy.

Lydia - The drive to SD is really cool, hope B enjoys it.  Tell him our suburban died twice going over the "rock mountains" in CA.  I was glad to get to the downhill side of those giant rock mountains(they dont call them that but I do).  Had to get a new fuel pump in SD.  He will love it!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Prayer for your Sailor Gabby thats a tough test !!!!!    hooooyaaaa whoop whoop

Kyles...  they are going through the desert of New Mexico and Arizona..  They are having fun site seeing a little ...  Glad your boy is checked in and safe and sound.. Ill be happy when mine is too!  =0D

  • sailormom

My son is on ship 04 and Division 812. What is your husband in? Maybe they know each other
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

kts and dean - Welcome welcome!  We are right here with you.  My boy is about halfway or more through the Rescue Swimmer Pipeling.  He grad Boot camp last year 09-02 and was on hold for NACCS (Naval Aircrew Candidate School) until early November...  finised that then did RSS mid December till 2nd week Jan this year.  Then on hold for Sierra A school till February..  Finished that a few weeks a go and is now on his was to San Diego CA.  He will be on hold for SERE starts that June 6 or so then FRS (FRAC) and will grad that in late November.  So, it is a long year and half haul pretty much for them.  Tedious and heart wrenching for mommss and wives... So hand in there and hang out here with us.

mom2four - what Aircrew class?  Trying to remember?

Gabby and Andys --- how did your Sailors do??

  • deanacakes

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

    Andys and Gabby - hoooyaaa!!!

    Tam - congrats!!!

mom2four - GREAT!!!  And you are welcome.  It does help to know what is ahead and some moms on here helped me at the beginning!

deanacakes... Im sure you and kts are on the Boot Camp Moms site and or JessicaB (mederator of that site along with others) will set up a PIR site or have one of yall set it up so anyone in Boot Camp who PIRs at the same time can get together on one site and support each other.  Your Sailors Ship and Div will be in the form letter that you will get a few weeks after they get to boot camp.

  • Jill (ATO Mom)

Yippee for Andys and Gabby's swimmers!  Gabby... your girl is an inspiration to mine... girls can and will do this thing!

Paperwork, paperwork... still waiting to make sure my daughter can take her PST on monday, she is so ready to get her contract and get moving on this.  Two years of determination!  Hopefully soon!

  • gabbyhat

Thanks Lydia and Jill...very proud of our sailors...Jill, wishing your girl the best with getting this PST done and contract in hand...two years shows tremendous determination!!!
  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Gabbyhat & Andysmom-congrats to your sailors! My son said after escapes & releases everything else was pretty easy and the instructors were less "in their face". I know you both must be so proud.

Tam-congrats to your daughter on her contract.

  • Jill (ATO Mom)

So PST monday afternoon in San Diego!  Pray for good scores so she can secure a contract!

  • April

Hey everyone!  My husband is currently in boot camp and has PIR on May 6th.  He is going to Pcola for A school for AIRR.  I am very proud of him!
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Awe welcome all new and those in the pipeline.. all are welcome here!  We are in this together and we are here for each other... sorry been our of town.. Ill check in in the am on everyone!
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Happy Monday yall~!  A new week, new beginnings, soon graduations!  How is everyones Sailors?  Mine is fine and on hold for SERE in CA.  He likes it there but said there is little to no structure so he is staying in a routine of PT and Karate to keep busy and away from those who are lax.

Hope everyones Sailors are moving along...  do keep us updated!

  • Kyle's mom

Good morning all!  My sailor is in VA and Loves it!  He said there are helos and ships all over.  Has a nice barracks to live in, more like an apartment than in Pcola with a full kitchen for cooking!  PT in the AM and studying all other times, lots to learn.

Strong thoughts for all in RSS, NACCS, and Bootcamp from a proud momma!

  • Linda (Proud Navy Mom)

Hi everyone. My son has two weeks left of NACCS. He has heard short wait after that for RSS. Welcome to all that are new to the group! Nice to hear updates on all.
