I know how hard it is to be on hold, it really frustrates them. I wish you luck in finding out what the hold up is. It is great to have the support of this group and I appreciate it.
Hooyah! The Navy now has one more petty officer and Rescue Swimmer. My son is finishing up A school today then moving on to Virginia for SERE and FRS. (So technically, I am not sure I can call him a rescue swimmer yet, but I am gonna!)
And, in 2 weeks I get to go visit him in Virginia. So excited!
Hope all is well with everyone else's sailors. Have a great day ladies!
Kevin - hoooya hooya sista Im soo excited for you!!!!
Ann - My son graduated BC in Sept 2010.... went directly to Pcola and finally classed up NACCS in early November so 3 months hold there. Then another 6 weeks till RSS then another 6 weeks to A school and finished that in March.. Now on hold another 3 months (until June 9th) for SERE ... so what Im saying is that the hold time can take many months. Especially as he rolled into a different rate. Paper work processing out of one rate and into another where there are already some holds..... etc... None of the Rescue Swimmers have had to have security clearance so I dont think that is an issue for him. So he will be in for a long haul but it will be so worth it if he will just play the patience game and continue to heal and kick butt. Another Bud who rolled back last fall still has not classed up either. My husband is a retired Nam Vet and I can tell you that yes... the system is slow but there is no finer military in the world than ours and no greater Navy than this countries... So try to see the pot of gold and the end of the tunnel and not the tunnel itself. All Specs Ops and Warfare are long pipelines but worth the wait!! Hang in there we are right here every day for each other!!!
Ann, my rescue swimmer son and his rescue swimmer best buddy are here, YAY! I asked them last night what could possibly be the very long delay for your son......they said when there is delay that's VERY lengthy, it's usually one of 2 things......(1) his injury, or (2) security clearance. I told them you said that his injury is healed. Lydia, I had to be a "naysayer," but they do have to have security clearance.....but HOOYAH to everything else you said!
And, as far as the security clearance, they said that there are a lot of factors with security clearance....it isn't just the swimmer and his closest surrounding environment. The "tentacles" reach out very far when a security clearance is done and sometimes there are delays in receiving information back. Make sense?
Lydia's son classed up and moved quickly through the system, he will be finished with SERE the end of June so with his PIR being in September 2010, that's nine months for his path.
My son (and the buddy who is here with him), their PIR was September 2009 so their path is exactly one year and nine months. Sometimes the hold times are longer for each class that comes in. There isn't a pre-determined amount of time. Military moves at it's own pace and they just move along with it....have to have the mental fortitude to go with it. So, if things are moving slow, just be thankful there's a paycheck, benefits, and a place to live......and know that everything will happen in time.
Texas.... after SERE he will start FRS and graduate according to his orders in late November.. so it seems that about the year and half is right ... Glad your boy is home! how fun!!!!
As far as clearance... no one called teachers, employers or family for my son. So Im thinking Back ground check??? Nothing like the Cryptos etc...
Paycheck, benefits and they pay them to work out thats what my son loves hahaha
Lydia, ahhhhh so he does SERE before FRAC? I forget that they're doing this now.....reverse.....just to keep everyone on their toes, lol! I dunno about the security clearance thing and how it's done. I do remember my son telling me last year he was so relieved because he had been cleared. Maybe it's all so secret no one knows it's being done? Hahaha, I just found this........ http://www.ehow.com/list_6736385_navy-aircrew-requirements.html
And, yep, getting paid to work out and be on the beach.......it's all in the attitude, right? It's been nice having him home. They do leave tomorrow for Norfolk and I don't think I'll be seeing him for quite awhile. There's been more time available lately because he's been in between schools. But in Norfolk, their job begins....
Sailormom- he will go to P Cola for NACCS, be prepared for a short visit if you're going to graduation. My sailor graduated on Friday and flew out early Saturday morning.
Just heard that no one from our group classed up to Starboard D, but should in 3 weeks, at least that's what they're hearing now...
We got to spend Friday with him, had to have him back before 8p. NACCS is 5 weeks, but that doesn't include hold times... be ready for a lot of waiting... :) Enjoy graduation, it is AMAZING!!!
Sailormom most likely he will be transported to the airport VERY early Sat. morning but you can meet him there at the USO and spend valuable time with him there. Our son's flight didn't leave till 5 p.m. We brought games and his laptop.
Sailormom... okay.. he will go to Pcola where he will be on hold for NACCS (Naval Air Crew Candidate School) once he passes this he will go on hold for RSS (Rescue Swimmer School) Once he passes that he will go on hold for his A school... that is a total of anywhere from 4 to 6 months depending on Sierra or Romeo A school.... then off to SERE and FRAS... in either order... soooo NACCS is about 5 weeks all total... my son was more excited about grad RSS than NACCS... I was lucky cause he had lots of pix of all his grads!!!!
Ann - He sounds like a wonderful man! Im happy he is in the Navy and in Specs... he sounds like he fits the bill for sure! And you are a proud momma! What great kids/hubbys we have. And how kewl that we can be right here to hug and encourage each other. Its the hardest job in the world being a Navy Momma! I pray he your C will get back to BUDS too... he sure is on a great track!!!!! BIG hugs to him and you!
Texas - All I can figure is that they must have contacted whom ever and we just never heard about it??? How funny... maybe someone called me and I didnt know who they were hahahahah... kidding, I know that they come to your home etc. Anyhooo... Ill ask my B more about it when I talk to him today! Hug your boy for me today... I know he is leaving for VA... xoxoxo
Lydia, I'm known amongst my family/friends as a "researcher....." Give me a topic and I'll go to town SOOOOOO here's the answer to what we're talking about cuz I asked my son about that last year when he told me he had passed...I said same thing you did "well, no one contacted me....."
It appears our guys have a "secret" security clearance and that doesn't involve interviewing people. When there's a "top secret" designation, this is when interviewing is conducted. Here's a very detailed description of the different types of security clearance:
Ann1, you have an awesome young man! Tell him to hang in there cuz some things in life are worth waiting for. Keep us posted as to how he's doing, okay?
My son and his friend leave today for Norfolk, yes....thank you Lydia! You're amazing in that you remember these things...very special lady! We've had fun these last few days!
Texas... good research... kinda what I figured... I know the Cryptos get crazy interviews.. some moms were a bit worried they would say something wrong hahah! Glad I did not have to worry cause I probably would have talked too much ahaha! Empty nest again huh? I loved seeing my B as he was on his way to Cali but after he left again... it hurt all over again! Oh well, such is the life of a Navy momma / wife!
Lydia, yes, empty nest again.....don't have a clue what to expect for the future now that he's going for his orders. When they're in school, at least I knew what school followed what. Didn't know hold times. Have to see what's coming next......
Texas... hang in there sister... we be on the same boat. hahaha no pun intended!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Navy Mommas!!! We rock yes we do and wives too!!! whoop whoop
Okay now special prayers.... my sons best buddy ... yall know cause Ive mentioned him before... re-classes RSS in the am!!! Hooyaaa R... kick arse and get her done buddy!
Lydia - will definitely keep your son's buddy and everyone else classing up in my prayers. What do you mean re-classes? And yes Ellie would love an update on your hubbie too!
My husband is meeting with the classifier this week I believe. He basically reports to the officer building everyday and does random things right now ( thats my understanding) Once he moves over to the other side of base (nattc prob in like 3 weeks) he will take a 2 week aviation class and then receive orders... Thanks for still thinking of me!! Means a lot! Tell all of your sailors to keep grindin', they will get through it!!!!
Proud... he did not pass approaches and releases... so he rolled back to today. just praying thats all!!! =0P Praying for each one of them.. not just my buddies buddy and thank you soo much for asking! You know me... I pray for each of yalls boys like they are my own... heck they are my own.... We are a BIG Navy family!!!! =0)
Hi Sweetpea and Ellie!!!
bsmom - soooooooooooo kewl... heading down that pipeline!!! hoooyaaa .
Hi ladies...haven't posted in awhile, been on the waiting game with my daughter to see what rate she'd get with Aircrew Dry...finally got some news from her today that she will be hopefully classing up soon to the AWF A school...very long school in Pcola...so will be there awhile which is good for us as only 500 miles away....been following everybody's sailors on their various stages in the pipeline...Lydia, sending prayers to B's buddy...know he'll get thru this time!! Also prayers out for all the sailors playing the waiting game...know how hard that can be...
The first thing I would like is that you ladies are the most sincere and supportive group I have ever seen and I am retired military so I have seen numerous. I have been following the progress of your sailors since September when my son got to Pensacola. I have never commented because I am a dad and didn’t want to be that one guy. Your knowledge on the waiting time to class up and what to be expected was extremely helpful and accurate. I have checked the posting everyday especially on Wednesdays test day to see everyone’s progress. My son has finished RSS and is currently going through Romeo Training. Keep up the good work and keep the faith
Voodoo- thanks for coming 'out of the closet' so to speak :) Congratulations to your sailor on a successful completion of RSS. Having "lived" through that with my son, I have a firm appreciation for those sailors tough enough to make it through. God bless him as continues on his schooling!
Voodoo - you are welcome here. We did have a dad here months ago but they he and his wife stopped posting... I dont know if perhaps their Sailor rolled or changed his rate.. Please keep up posted!
Ann.. so glad you will get to see him! hoooyaaa
Gabby - good to see you.... AWF okay what exactly is that? hahaha
Proud - thank you for the prayers for his buddy!
Kevin - Hi sista!!!!
Talked to my B last night for a long time! SERE in two weeks. He is worried that I am too worried... Im trying not to be and not let him know that but my son and I are very close and he knows me all too well. hahaha...
Lydia, you can't worry about his SERE experience. Know that he is given all the tools prior......and this experience for them is vital to their success in the event that they have to draw upon it at any time in the future. Vital. And, while I hear all say that they don't want to repeat it, they ARE glad for it and it only strengthens them and gives them confidence.
Worrying is an endless circle that gets us nowhere. And B needs to know that YOU are confident in his training, his skills and not worried about him. His energy is to be focused elsewhere. Trust me on this.
Hi b'smom...will join you in those prayers for those going thru it in Joplin...so very tragic...and also sending you and your family prayers for a successful surgery and positive outcome for your mom...so hard to lose a parent at such a young age...am sorry he couldn't get leave to see her.
As far as what AWF is...am doing research and getting bits and pieces from my dtr...she moves over to NATTC next week...has to take ATT and AWAT before A school...then goes to JAX for 9 month P 3 school...the AWF stands for Aviation Warfare Flight Engineer...lots of responsibility...long, long school...also has to do SERE, like RSS so right there with ya on that...and Texas Mom, you give great advice!!! Thanks
bsmom... soo sorry about him not getting leave. My children and I lost their daddy when he was only 43. My son was 10 years old. I understand. Yes I was glued to CNN last night until the started re-recording the live feeds in Joplin. I guess the CNN crew finally had to go to shelter too. It was just breaking my heart sitting in my comfey recliner with my hubby snoozing on the couch when they were being terrified and tormented yet another night in a row. I just could only ask the Lord to help them. I felt so helpless myself. The Dallas tornadoes were north of us so we did not have any problems here. It seems that our country is going through its own wars right now! Now Im gearing up for hurricane season as are all of us that live on the Gulf Coast.
Texas.... exactly what I did tell him. Trying to play it really low on the subject but he is an unusual young man. Spec Ops tough Navy Poster boy all the way and yet you will never meet a kid with more heart and compassion and above all else he has unusual insite into people. I though he should have been a doctor or a shrink or something hahahahaha! No, actually... I trust the Navy and her Drill Instructors completely. He has done Fabulously thus far and I attribute that to excellent training as well as determination. By the way, I cant rememeber Texas but you are not up in the Dallas area are you? Horrible tornadoes cursing our country right now!
gabby - wooow that actually sounds like a fun responsible job! Im excited for her. See isnt it funny how Great things can come at the shirt tail of bad.
Texas-sound advice and we'll see how well I can put it into practice when it comes time for my son to go through SERE. I don't know alot about what goes on at SERE, just that the sailors are glad when it is over. So in this instance, ignorance is bliss. If I don't know what is going on, then I can't worry about it or how he is doing. Also, my son has learned some amazing lessons during RSS about his own mental toughness and what his body can be put through. Probably my biggest angst will be that I won't be able to talk or communicate with him for 2 weeks. I have a month to wait before he goes to SERE and then we'll see how I do when it is my turn.
Talked to my son a little last night and he said he probably won't be able to come home for his sister's wedding in August. He said he can't get leave when he is in FRS (he is on one coast, and we are on the other). Does anyone know, does this sound correct? When I told my daughter, she cried a little and was upset that he could not watch her get married.
hello all :) hubby's still on hold for RSS. it'll be 6 weeks tomorrow since aircrew grad. he has to wait another 3 weeks this time until he has the opportunity to class up again. some good news... after 5 long months of waiting my husband can finally live at home... his brown bagger was approved! wooo hoo! hope ya'll get a chance to enjoy this long weekend :)
Kevin.. yes exactly correct but hey... how bout this..... wonder if your boy could do a congrats video that you can secretly ... share at her reception... something goofy and fun for her and the groom and the guests.... might make him feel like he is involved and at the same time make her happy to see him... I dunno... just a thought.
sara... kewl ... and also tell him to be patient good things come through hard times!!! remind him to work his arse off and get prepared for RSS it is not a walk in the park like NACCS is... thats what my son says anyway! hahaha
definitely working his butt off. he likes volunteering as a "survivor" for the current RSS students so he can get an eye on the procedures and whatnot. definitely know it's not a walk in the park... he was med-dropped from BUDs and since then he's been dying to get back into training :)
Sarahbear, yay for the brown bagger! And, LOL, I love his strategy in volunteering to be the "survivor....." very smart planning on his part to get some inside strategic moves by seeing how the RS's "handle" him!
Sara, sounds to me like he is a goooo get her!!! Good for him like Texas Mom said for getting the inside edge! It will surely help him. He sounds like a GOOD man! And you are a supportive wife... Im proud of you too sista!!!!
Kevin - yippie Im glad you like the idea... make it funny or silly and serious too... so everyone will laugh and also cry.... you know what I mean... Different video shots at different base locations... some crazy and maybe serious on the beach or something... okay enough Lydia.... she knows what to do hahahaha
Ann... hope all will be well... hugs and hang in there!
Texas... your the best!!!! Hope you are not getting all these nasty storms!
Hello!! I hope everyone is doing great...missing our Sailors!! Leaving to Pensacola tomorrow for 10 days!! Wooohoooo super excited...can't wait to see my boy!! Take care everyone...
