My son has PIR on June 3rd, then he is off to Florida. So excited. I just got a letter from him, he said he is in the top 10% of his division and he is an E-3 now. So proud of him.
congrats sailormom. Your sailor is going to be a rescue swimmer? If so, your sailor will find that he will be on hold waiting to start the various schools he will need to complete to become a rescue swimmer. You will find on this site that hold times vary between sailors, but some "general" times can be expected. My son arrived in Pensacola October 2010, finished his A school last Friday, and is leaving today for SERE and FRS. So my son was in P'cola for 7 months. The wait time is so long because of the amount of Rescue Swimmer contracts.
Kevin-Mom(Maryann) , Thank you for the information. What do they do when they are waiting? My brother is a retired rescue swimmer. He also was a trainer in Pensacola. He still lives there. Do they have more free time when in Pensacola. Like could he see his uncle on the weekends? Where is SERE and FRS? So where is your son now?
sailormom... as far as the wait.. the hold time for NACCS and RSS are sometimes up to a couple of month or more... Free time is all about Phasing up... phase one two and three... .. he will know.. and yes.. as he phases up - more freedom. Ill bet if his uncle is a rescue swimmer, he prob knows all this anyway hahahahahah SERE and FRS are after... NACCS and RSS and A school (Sierra or Romeo) then off to Ca or Va.. the pipeline as we all here have discussed so many times can be up to a year and half or year the 3/4.... its a long pipeline but its because of the intense training..... just hang here with us... we are here to help each other!!! My boy finished in Pcola NACCS, RSS and A school... went to CA and is going to SERE next week... then FRS ... due to grad in Nov... that makes his pipeline about 16 months... HUGS yall
Lydia For B-The Sea is Ours Thank you for all the information. It will be a busy year or two. Where is your son now? Does he know where he is going after he is done with school
My son has arrived safe and sound in Norfolk. His 3 room mates are buddies from his RSS class, so sounds like housing worked out OK. So excited because I leave in a little less than a week to go see him. Hooyah!
Kevin... yippie! Im soooo glad he is safe and sound number one and number two you get to go and see him and three... his rommies are buddies... that does make a huge difference. Same with my B...
sailormom... he is in San Diego... starts SERE end of this week then will do FRS also in San Diego.. he hope to be attached to the SEALs helo teams and therefore hopes for Virginia after. He has decided to do one deployment and then strike for the SEALs.... So we will see. He will grad FRS end of November and I understand that somewhere in the mid to end of FRS they will get their helo squad attachments... so that will tell a lot... Hey just hang in here with us... we keep each other company during this long pipeline!
Good morning Everyone! My sailor is coming home tomorrow for two weeks! Whoop! Family vacation to Texas coast with his sisters, lots of visiting, BBQ and Mexican food for him. Can't wait!
Good morning all! I'm new to your group and just trying to read through and figure out what I can expect in the future. My son will be classing up at the end of this month. My biggest question (right now) is regarding Liberty. How many weeks in, will he be able to go off base overnight? All your insight and knowledge is very appreciated!
We got Jacksonville! He has to report to NAS-Jax July 28th and was put with a squadron vp-16?? Im really not too sure about the details as to what he will be doing (this is all a new learning process now) BUT Im pretty excited. Ive heard good things about the city and its only going to be a 5 hour drive from here. Woohoo!
Ellie, that's wonderful news! Jacksonville is pretty!
Life is Peachy, welcome!
Kyle's Mom, oooohhhhhh, you are SO lucky - enjoy enjoy! Lots of pictures and share with us :o)
KevinHMom, my son also arrived in Norfolk last week and you're going to get to see your son soon? YAY!
Lydia, hey pretty lady.......we didn't get too much bad weather here. It rained all around us.....skipped us over. We need rain really bad.......our ranchers and farmers are hurting...
Just found out my son will graduate aircrew school tomorrow, YEA!!! But he is bummed about waiting again for the next part, he is not doing well with all of the waiting. Wish I could be there tomorrow to get pictures but according to him it is no big deal but to me it is.
Life is Peachy, my son was able to get liberty while waiting. Home is 1 hour from Pensacola and he has been able to visit for the weekend, but had to request the liberty.
Life..... If he is Phase 3 he can go off base on the weekend anyway but they are limited as to how many miles they can go. As far as leaving to go far away... they have to earn that time just like any job. I cant remember exactly how many hours per month the accrue... if you go over to the Pensacola site and ask Robin or Jacquelin.... they can tell you. Welcome! Is he classing up NACCS or RSS?
Kyles..... I know you are having fun!!! I can just hear you smiling!!!! Yall going to Galveston Ill bet!
Ellie...... congrats honey! Jax is a nice city with a lot to do! No sure what that means either.... Most of the helo squads are HSC's and a number like HSC24 etc........ Ask him what is Rate will be (his job)...
Texas.. we are desperate for rain too. I have done a rain dance but it has not worked so its your turn hahaha
ochaos... at least he is now in the pipeline though and in the military it is always a waiting game.... mental is what they work on the most... but hey remind him he is making a paycheck to work out, run, eat out and play on the weekends... what could be better than that for a young Sailor hahahaha!!!!!!
sweetpea and Kevin.... good morning to yall!!!! sweetpea how great to be able to see your sailor almost each weekend! Im jealous hahahaha =0P
Lydia & Texas Mom-right now, I am wishing for a little less rain in the area. I live in California and we have had so much rain this year they are finally lifting the drought status from the state. I am so sick of cold and rain I could just spit, but that would just add more moisture to everything, wouldn't it. I am so ready for warm weather & wearing shorts. Especially jealous of my sailor who has been living in that type of climate since March!
Thanks all. I know there are different Phases to Liberty. My son isn't going straight from BC, rather being reclassified. We have access to a family member's vacation condo not far from the base and I was hoping to be able to plan a family gathering at some point this summer. Approximately how many weeks does it take to earn Phase 3 Liberty and how many miles are they limited to during Liberty? Seems the rules vary depending on what school/training they are involved in.
Sorry I don't know all the terms, acronyms, definitions, or lingo for this adventure yet... I have spent the past 18 months focused on learning all I could about the last one and hope to eventually come up to speed with the rest of you.
Sounds like you are all celebrating accomplishments for your Sailors - CONGRATULATIONS to all of them!!
Life .... I just copied and put a discussion up above here in the discussion forum on Phases and Liberty. I borrowed it from the Pensacola site. I hope it helps you some. That is a great site for you to also join if you have not already. Tho they dont know much about Rescue Swimming... there is tons of info on the bases etc there in Pcola. Hey... ask away if you have questions or confusions... it is complicated for sure!!!! But this is why we are here... some of us have been here and done this... some are halfway and some brand new...
Kevin... funny - we are dying here in a draught. We have had a burn ban on for 3 months already and it is 103 - 105 out now. Suffocating! I wish we had your rain and some of your cool weather!
Lydia, I'm doing the rain dance too! The wind has added a dimension of dryness I didnt know existed, my yard is turning to dust. Buttttttttttt.......my rescue swimmer is sleeping in the other room right now so life is good. He "beat" me yesterday at the gym, "stress sets" (one for me) and I am feeling it today! Guess I will have a personal trainer for the next two weeks. Sure is good to have him home :)
KylesMom-I'm sure that any amount of pain that could be dished out at a gym is worth it to have your son home.
Lydia-how is your sailor feeling about starting SERE soon? excited? nervous? Has he been doing anything specific to prepare, or just doing stuff to keep in shape? How are you doing with him starting soon? I'm sure you are ramping up the prayers!
Countdown til I see my son!! This time tomorrow I will be halfway there! (Although we will be visiting family until Tuesday, so won't see him until then.) Still, so excited I can barely stand myself.
Kevin - my son has run the beach and the O course almost everyday now for a month. I think he is more preparing to switch to SEALS! hahah He plans on doing that after his first deployment. He said he will be fine in SERE but of course they all say that! =0P uggggggg I know you are excited girl, heck Im excited for you! hahahah!
Life - you are welcome hope it helped.
Kyles... oh I know the wind just fans the dryness - its aweful! My water bill is so high as we have to water the yard and my flowers. Im dreading getting next months bill but at least the yard is still pretty and green for now!
okay yall..... prayers for my boys best buddy R. Hoping he will get another chance given to him this week!
Woooooooooooooooop .... okay.. another chance for my buddies buddy R... plz pray... such a heart he has! My buddy is now in SERE... God speed my buddy! He called me believe it or not ..... hanging.... but keep the prayers for my boys buddy R... thank yall! I believe as yall know in the power of prayer!!! whoop!
Lydia - I'm here. My son was on "call" to be deployed to help fight the wildfires in Arizona, but didn't have to go after all. He was hoping to get to go but it's his birthday and my other son is there visiting him in SD. So he is glad he didn't get called to go.
It is very quiet in here....maybe everyone is on vacation...lol!!
Lydia, you r right...awfully quiet here...I guess you have one more week to go before you hear from the boy...he will do fine!!! My K finally got out of Phase One yesterday....is a much happier girl...still waiting to class up for class...going to c her next Friday...can't wait!!
Hello girls, wish it was me on vacation, but here I stay ............ Heard exciting news from my son, should be classing up this Wed. (NACCS) FINALLY he has been having WAY too much fun! Fishing off the seawall, bowling, movies, and hangin at the beach. I think he has had more stuff to do and more friends to do it with, then ever before. He just gets really bummed about not getting to come home at all because of the distance (about 100 miles out of range) and seeing so many others spending the weekend with their families.
Found out my son went through NACCS and RSS with a broken arm. He complained of pain all the time but wouldn't go to medical. Well, he finally did and has an appointment with a specialist. They are either going to pin it or he'll have to wear a cast for 8 weeks. Find out tomorrow. He says he still can go to A school with a cast. Great huh? I can't believe he made it through RSS with a broken arm!
Wow, Andysmom...that boy of yours has some kind of DETERMINATION!!! Can't believe he did that...well, yes I can from what K told me about him...one determined young man!!! Hope his arm is ok!
And congrats MamaB and mom2four for your sailors classing up...the best of luck to them!!!
Gabby.....He's had a chit request in for over 2 weeks. They keep changing the info he needs. WOW! They are supposed to approve it within 72 hours. Never happens that way. In the mean time, the flights are going up and up. He must be camping because I can't get ahold of him. Watch, they'll approve his chit and the Ortho will want to do surgery. Just our luck.
Andys....oh geez, so typical....yeah THEY run it a bit different on the NATTC side, don't they...two weeks, u gotta to b kidding me!!! Know all bout the flights...hence I'm driving...sorry u guys aren't closer...FB me with the details on his arm....
My son is trying to home in July and was understanding that he was supposed to request it 2 wks prior to when he wants to leave and they let him know if it's been approved the day before the request. That doesn't sound right to me, how would you plan a flight? Do any of you know for sure? Andys, approval within 72 hrs sounds more like it.........
Mama B...That's what sucks. They push it off and push it off. Make every excuse possible. In the mean time, out kids end up paying a bundle to come home. Originally flights stated at around $200. Now they are up to $400+ and that's driving 2 hours to go get him. Now NAVY says they can't request chit over the 4th. We've been dealing with this for SO long. Don't understand what the issue is when they are on hold anyhow! UGH.
Andysmom, the fact that your son went through RSS shows the amount of strength and shows how "tough" our swimmers are....not only physically but mentally. I hope his leave gets approved soon. It's very frustrating how long things take.
Just got done from visiting my sailor. Jeez...does leaving him ever get any easier? Found out they moved up his sere date. Now he goes next week. Yikes!
Also before he left pcola they told him he could request leave for July when he got to Norfolk. Norfolk told him leave until he finishes frs.
