Still have my son at home (2 week leave Hooyah!)   Been to Texas coast, Port Aransas for family vacation!  Too cool to have the whole family together!  Nice to see how much his sisters miss him and enjoy being together!  Family BBQ last weekend, ribs Saturday, chicken Sunday.  I'll have to go on a diet when he leaves, too much good food.  I do love that young man! and am so proud of ALL our rescue swimmers!!!!!
  • TexasMomof2

Kyles Mom, I am SOOOOO happy for you - what a special time!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Kevins - yikes is right...  Friday was the last I heard from my B...  the first week they were allowed to call on breaks from SERE "school" training..  but now NADA... but he warned me so I wake up thinking about him all night and all day too!  =0(   But he did tell my daughter that he was actually looking forward to it..  I know they understand the need for excellent training..  so mine will come back and yours will be starting...

gabby...glad your daughter is moving up and on!  Thats sooo awesome!

Andys... sounds like a wonderful young man!  yoooohaaaa to him!

MamaB and Mom24....  congrats... now the fun begins!  hahaha  =0P

Texas....  howdy!  How are your two Sailors anyway??

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Onboard....   perhaps you could start one.. I have not see one up in the "Groups" but you could sure get one going!!

Christi...  woow that would have been really kewl for him to experience that but Im glad he is hanging with his bro instead!  Thats kewl!

  • TexasMomof2

Ann, I'm so sorry.  It's very frustrating when our kids are far away and there isn't anything that we can do to help.  I had this situation with my oldest when he went in 2007.  He started out with a particular contract and then when he got to A school he decided he didn't want to pursue it......he wanted to try another contract but was told to go undesignated.  Oh my......lots of phone conversations back and forth.  Lots of growing on his part.  And they are totally at the mercy of the military.  What to do?  Nothing for us except to listen.  For them, it's learning to be proactive and yet, at the same time, accepting of the given situation.  You know the serenity prayer?  It's great for times like this.

Lydia, my sons are great!  My corpsman son is still in Ft Worth and just made Petty Officer 3rd class.  HOOYAH!  He's in Ft Worth for another 2 years.  My youngest, my rescue swimmer, is in Norfolk with his squadron.  He's been there for 2 weeks and is going through more training in areas that are particular to his squadron.

    Is SERE almost over?

  • sailormom

Has anyone had a son/daughter waiting on a medical waiver before they were sent off to their A school? I see all of you are ahead of me in this whole thing. My son is at GL still waiting on a medical waiver. The doctor found that he used an inhaler when he was 6 so they say he has a history of asthma. Which he really doesn't. He was never diagnosed with that and hasn't had any problems in a very long time. Anyway he was told yesterday it would be a 3 week to 3 month wait for his waiver. He is working out all day practicing his swimming for A school.
  • TexasMomof2

Cosprtina, you'll find that there is continuous training....  As far as SERE, this is a good question.  I'll ask my son later today and see when he was told.  I do know that when he told me he was going to SERE, at the same time he gave his start date for his orders.  I'll ask him.  Your son hasn't gone through SERE yet?

Sailormom, they will do all kinds of tests to ensure your son doesn't currently have asthma.  My oldest (he's a corpsman) had to get testing by specialists PRIOR to the Navy accepting him cuz he had mentioned it to the recruiters.  Your son is doing the right thing by working out during his hold time.  Won't be easy waiting.  But tell him he will be watched for how he handles this time.....be positive.

  • Christi

SailorMom- My son was on medical hold after he was out of BUDS, (no wonder really after seeing how hard that training his) his iron levels were very low...and he was on hold for almost 3 months until the Dr's finally decided that all it was is an iron deficiency and not something more serious. When it comes to medical...they are very careful and thorough so the wait may be long, but it will be worth it in the end. Just tell your sailor to keep his chin up and continue to practice and work out and in the end he will be in better shape than he started and ready for the next challenge of A school.
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

    I agree with Texas Mom!!!!!

Cosprtina - hummmm - if your son has already been assigned his squad and has completed NACCS and Rss and Aschool - then he will do frs and SERE it can be either order my son said but seems that most of his buddies are leaving A school and going into SERE first (he was on hold one month for it) (thats where he is right now) and then FRS.  My son got his orders for the dates for SERE and FRS two weeks before he graduated from Sierra A school.  He said they do not get their actual fleet squadron assignments until middle to end of FRS .. they are attached to training squadrons first he told me  for ex...  HSC3 etc...  then they actually get attached to a fleet squad etc.  Yes the new "rule" of time for their wings my son said is I believe he told me after the first deployment of 6 months or so.  They really make them earn those beautiful wings!!!

sailormom - I know that my sons buddy had to get the same waiver but they got him his before he went to BC while waiting to go.  seems that I recall it did take some red tape and time.   Im glad he is using his time so wisely because the atrition rate is so very high for Rescue Swimmers!  So good that he is working out and beefing up while waiting!

Ann - well, even some gals here are having a hard time planning a wedding date because with the military - any branch... it is either hurry up and wait to leave NOW!  No planning ahead thats for sure.  They get use to it but us parents have a hard time for sure!  Just keep trying to remember that he is making a good paycheck and can work out and run and enjoy some last time freedom before the fleet swoops him away!  =0)

  • TexasMomof2

Cosprtina, I asked my son tonight.......he found out in February, after FRAC, that he was going to SERE on May 1.  And he already had his orders for Norfolk.  So, if your son just graduated FRAC, maybe he will hear soon?

    Ann, sending good thoughts!

  • TexasMomof2

Cosprtina, yes, he had such a long time in between FRAC and SERE.  He did come home on leave.......for about 10 days.  His truck was here at home so he flew here and then drove his truck back to San Diego.

After SERE, he and one of his swimmer buddies drove back here for about 5 days and then drove up to Norfolk to report.  After  being in San Diego for almost a year, he and his buddy are homesick for California but they're adjusting.  He's been with his squadron for 2 weeks and has had training each of those weeks.  He is with HSC 84 squadron which is special warfare.  I don't understand the distinction between all of the squadrons.  I had to google his squadron to see what it entails.  My heart sank, ya know it's a Mom thing.....but I have faith.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

    Good morning yall!!!

Woow... seems like each one is so different.  My sons orders gave him all his dates right up through his FRS graduation.  His SERE ends this week and FRS starts on the 10th so no hold there... and grad according to orders on Nov 28th.  Seems like there really is no rhyme or reason.

Cosprtina....  is your son wet or dry....  Texas - would that make the difference?  Seems like I thought I remember my son saying that dry do not necessairly take SERE but only FRS?  Oh well, anyhooo....  Good luck cosprtina

Ann - sure are praying for your son!  Its hard to be the momma and not be able to do anything to help!!!!!!

Texas - it was 105 here in our area yesterday!  uggggggg

  • Kyle's mom

Lydia, Hate the Heat!!!  We moved our daughter into a new apartment yesterday in that heat, YUCK!!!  Supposed to be hotter this weekend!

My sailor arrived in Norfolk beginning of April, scheduled for SERE in late July, ground school in September and grad after Christmas or 1st of year.  All came on his orders after A school in Pensacola.  How's that for different???  I dont think you can plan on anything for sure until you get those orders and then they can change.  The Navy does take good care of our sailors though!

Enjoying the last days of my sailors leave, flight out tomorroow,   wahhhhh

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Kyles.... but thats what Im saying see your boy and mine are very similar in the pipeline of orders after A school....  but Cosprtina is REALLY unusual...  thats why I wondered about dry verses wet... and if her boy is dry???  Hey this is why we are all together here... to figure this all out and support each other in these unanswered times!!  I love it here!!!!!!!!!!   Girl... I ran around today doing care packages etc... it was almost 110 ... I told my hubby ... Im a tough beeeaatch but I cant do this for too many more years... we gonna have to move....  I know you have had a wonderful time with that Sailor of yours!!  I been up all night and day praying for mine in SERE... I think he is done on Friday...  I hope... I need sleep hahahahaha!

  • TexasMomof2

Lydia, I thought SERE was over on a Friday also......and surprisingly got a text from him on THURSDAY that said "worst camping trip ever, lol!"  Soooo, maybe u hear something tomorrow??
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Texas.. hahaha Oh I so hope so... Ill keep my cell handy just like back in the days of boot camp!  hahahahah -- missed my boys first 2 calls... the 3rd I was in the bathroom on the potty hahahahahah.. but I got the call that time!    =0P   My grandson leaves me tomorrow to move to WV... I shall miss him so badly.. so I could use a call from my Boy for sure!  thanks sister!  Love yall~!  Godspeed each one of our Sailors in their pipelines!
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

cosprtina...  woow okay - well, Im sure he will hear something soon as he is that far through his pipeline... keep us posted!  =0)
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOP whoop!!!  My son just called... done with SERE.. not too many details of course except that it was AWESOME in a painful sort of way!  Learned ton and had a great time... Lost 15 pounds and has not slept in many many days and was STARVING!...  he was totally stoked!  I did not know what to expect!  Momma is soooo relieved!  And who did he call first???????  Thats right MOMMA!  I love that boy!   hooooooyaaaaaaaa go Navy!
  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Lydia- you must be so relieved.  Congrats to your sailor.  When does he start FRS?

Prayers please ladies the next two weeks for my sailor.  He leaves tomorrow for SERE.

  • TexasMomof2

Lydia, very very nice!  And, Kevin's Mom, prayers and good thoughts headed his way.......it's an amazing incredible experience for them that they learn a lot from.

  • TexasMomof2

Cosprtina, YAY!! So glad you guys have a timeline.....sure helps knowing what's going to happen.  Tell me again his Squadron and where is it?
  • TexasMomof2

Awwww nice!  My son and his friends have been in Norfolk going on 3 weeks and they are horribly homesick for San Diego.  They loved it!
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Kevins - definately prayers for him and you!  Im sure he will do fine!

cosprtina - GREAT - how you can make a plan!   Yes I too am happy that Im the only woman in his life right now!  hahahaha

Texas - I can understand that... SD is the place to be for sure.  My son wants VA tho because he wants to be attached to the SEALs and I guess that is where the RSS for SEALs are located.

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Texas- I didn't know that about the SEALs.  Maybe that is the silver lining my son was looking for when he learned he was assigned to VA.  He really wanted SD because his family is in California, and all his buddies from RSS were assigned to SD.  When he was assigned to VA, he was bummed but knew that it would all work out because ever since he has been in the military (so far it has only been a year, so this outlook may change) every time he was assigned something different than what he really wanted, it has always turned out WAY better than if he had gotten what he wanted.  He really wants to be attached to SEALs or to be in combat situations.
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Kevin... thats my son.  Actually there are other RSS squads in VA too but particularly the SEALS helo squad he said are in VA. He would love to be attached with them... but He told me that he will strike for actual SEALs after his first deployment most likely anyway.. not that he does not love RSS - he does but not enough action for him  uggggggg...  Your son and mine sound exactly alike !!!  Perhaps they will one day meet!  That would be kewl!  isnt life interesting!  And for a kid who LOVED SERE??? Well, I guess I can see why he wants to be a SEAL..... I suppose time will tell!
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Texas ---------  OMG... Im so damn (sorrry) hot... my house is 83 all ceiling fans are funning and AC and it is 110 outside...  uggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg   I do not like Texas.. .I want to move to Hawaii!  =0)
  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Lucia-actually our sons have met. Your son is a good buddy with my sons old room mate. My son only had good things to say about your son.
  • Mama B

Andysmom, I remember talking to you about your son going through RSS with a fractured arm, well guess what, 1st day of NACCS my son rolls his ankle! Can you believe it!! He sent pictures and it must be 5 shades of purple and as big and swollen as you can imagine. Tomorrow should be interesting .............PRAYING for quick healing.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Kevin - OH yes I remember that now!!!  Im glad he made a good impression on your son...  he message me your son's name I want to see if my B stays in touch since they both have the same desire.. that would be tooo kewl.  I know he spoke not to long ago about one or two of his companions who got to go to VA I wonder if he is one of the ones he was speaking of??  Think about your boy this upcoming few weeks and you too!

Mama - ohhh geez....  did they roll him back for a few weeks ??  I know the PT they make them do every morning before the water is horrific and with a sprain like that...  geeee...  I know they make them run 6 /8 /12 mile every morning.??  Sure praying for him too!!!  keep us posted!

Well, happy Father's day to those who still have their daddies... Mine has been gone a long time.  My sons daddy (first hubby) is also gone.  We lost him a10 years ago when my son was about 10..  =0(     Have a great weekend and praying for all who are classing up NACCS / RSS / SERE / FRS   hoooyaaaa

  • TexasMomof2

Mama B, oh gosh, how horrible!  Hope it heals really really quick!

Kevin's Mom, is this his second week of SERE?

Lydia, YES!  107 here yesterday and strong winds so it's like being in front of a huge hair dryer!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Prayers please for my boy's best buddy..  R.... classes up RSS today!  This is his last chance..  so lots n lots of prayers!
  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Texas- no, he is just starting 1st week, so he is still going thru the "fun" stiff.
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Thinking about RSS and SERE today!  =0P   and NACCS too of course!
  • Kyle's mom

My sailor is back in VA, said PT was brutal yesterday morning after 2 weeks of vacation.  He worked out but with his momma, nothing like the Navy I guess.  Said it rained all afternoon and was 70 and clear when he called (almost chilly in his shorts and t-shirt).  I told him to remember turnabout is fair play and that I would be calling him in February when it is 70 in Texas and he is freezing his off (cool front here, only 101 yesterday with that BLAST FURNACE WIND!)  Hope all is well with everyone's rescue swimmers!  Have a great day!
  • onboardMOM

Hang in there MOMS... Have a great day! Someone commented that we are "warrior moms" and we CAN DO IT! Take care.
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Kyles... isnt it funny that that 9 degrees here in TX you can really feel!  I had like this energy splurge like I get in the fall and early spring..  but still no rain today.. maybe tomorrow!!!

    Onboard -  whooop whoooop youbetcha

  • Mama B

Lydia he of course didn't go to medical, determined to stick it out as best he can. It sure makes a hard situation, that much harder. Not to mention the heat and humidity they deal with daily. Steadfast in prayer for our boys........
  • onboardMOM

Good morning everyone!  Here's to the middle of the second week of bc for some. Almost through the second week.....  No letter yet but something to look forward to.  Hope everyone enjoys their day  B-)
  • CaliMom (Maryann)

@onboardMOM-You should be receiving something soon.  I remember that time with my sailor well.  I positively stalked the mailman waiting for letters, and the mail from him finally fell into a routine that I would receive my sons letters on a Thursday.  You'll see, in no time you will be going to his graduation!

Day 3 of SERE for my sailor.  I can still communicate with him and it sounds like he is still in the honeymoon period of the SERE training in that he still seems to be having a good time.  LOL. I guess next week we won't be able to communicate with him and it will feel like boot camp all over again for that week.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Kevin... yes .. my B called me on his breaks each day during that first week..  still kinda tough stuff happening.. he told me a little.. but yes next week will be "quick quiet" (remember Hunt for the Red October)  but then on that Thursday.. you should here from him..  He will be fine!

onboard...  Oh man do I remember the BC blues us mommas had..  soo - you have gotten the kid in the box and the form letter maybe right???  Im trying to understand where you are in the pipeline...  remember also as all us moms here can attest... the Spec Ops kids in Boot Camp have it hard... they are held to the highest bench mark and their phone calls and letters are fewer than most..  no worries.. its normal!  The first two calls from my son I missed... I was in the rest room when I received his third and last call.  Hang in there!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Oh and mamma - how is that ankle????

  • Mama B

Calling now to check on him.

  • gabbyhat

Kevin...is your son in SERE in San Diego, or MAINE? my dtr's bf and several of their friends started SERE this past Mon as well. She is also still hearing from him so far, not looking forward to next week, but understands that she has to get used to it what with deployments in their future...glad to here he is still enjoying himself...
MamaB... keeping fingers crossed that your boy's ankle is better!! :-)
  • Mama B

The ankle is holding well so far, thanks for asking. Couldn't help smiling as I read what you wrote to Kevin.........It's comforting to have someone there to encourage you along the way.

  • onboardMOM

Lydia & Maryann - thanks for the kind words.  No mail today just a car insurance bill; any takers for that one???  LOL  Tomorrow is another day!  Hope ya' all have a wonderful evening summer has begun :)
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

onboard - I did not get my first letter from my son (which he did write on that first Sunday) for over 3 weeks..  takes a while to get all those kids mail up and running and vice versa!  Oh and you can keep that bill --- got enough of  my own hahaha

    Mama - awesome!!!

gabby - how is she doing?

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

@gabby-SERE is in Maine. Where is your daughters bf attending SERE?
  • gabbyhat

Hi Lydi...she is doing ok...dealing with a sinus infection, and attending class for ATT evening shift...still misses her RSS buddies and the instructors, but is adapting to her new sit. And making new friends!!! Really misses the bf who is in first week of SERE in SD...knows your boy! And Kevinmom...he is in San Diego with Lydia's son...loves SD, but misses my dtr!!
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Oh my goodness gabby... can you message me his name so I can ask my son.. Its such a small world they might be close buddies...  besides I want to share something with you that my son told me.  I know my B and Kevins boy know each other too!  Sorry about her infection.. this hot hot summer does not help that!!!

    Hi Kevin... still praying!!!

  • I <3 my Sailor (Ship 04/DIV 817)

Hi, My name is kelsey. my bf is in boot camp right now & graduates August 5th. Then he goes to A school in Pensacola. I was wondering if you could tell me anything about it? how long it will be? Because we wanted to get married in May after i graduate. We planned on living together too.
