Letter arrived today! I was very thrilled to say the least... All things going good right now he reports. Is looking forward to the training component. Has made "new buddies" and is very excited about his new friends. Not a long letter at all, just 5 sentences but I was glad for the 5 sentences. No mention was made about receiving my 2 letters so maybe they have crossed each other. Hope everyone has a pleasant evening.
I --- I just saw your post on Pcola site too. Okay so he is rescue swimmer ... well, here is the pipeline but remember that the hold times vary.. Here is my sons pipeling. After BC he PIRd on 09/02/10.. Went straight to Pcola. Worked on Phasing up and was on hold for the FIRST classification school which is NACCS (Naval Aircrew Candidate School) he started that in October. Finished that and was on hold for RSS (Rescue Swimmer School) for almost 2 months.. classed up mid December. Got through that one and graduated in January. Went on hold for Sierra A school in March. Finished that and got orders to San Diego - drove out there in April....for SERE and FRS. Just finished SERE last week and will start FRS first of July. Will graduate FRS November 28th according to his orders. Then from there he will be assigned to his helo squadron who knows where right now. So it is a LONG haul... lots of schools and training but well worth it if he really wants it bad enough. It will be hard on you - but Im sure you will be super supportive. Some where in all that time perhaps yall can get married but let me warn you as I have seen tons of gfs on this site and Pcola try to plan wedding ahead of time. Just know that it will be real short notice in him getting that permission... so dont be hurt if the timing does not work out perfectly. But Id say if you are talking next year then Ill bet you will be able to work it out.
Onboard --- HOOOOOOOOOOOYAAAAAAAAAAAA...... sweet and I know the feeling of that first letter. I kept all his and they are now in a scrap book!!! Im sure he has gotten your too but yes they will cross in the mail alot that is why I use to number mine.... I wrote him 2 times a day.
Onboard - hoooooooooooooyaaaaaaaaaaaa sista!!! Mail is starting to roll in now!
Thank you so much for your information. We appreciate the knowledge of what may be the path ahead for our SRs and others. I am glad that some of you as veterans are still linked to this group and are willing to lend us your expertise.
Yes, the road to success seems challenging and rewarding as well as taking a great deal of effort/time. My SR is aware of the effort needed and is striving to get there with all his abilities. He chose this on his own and to our surprise has been willing to work toward this goal without any input on our part.
onboard... hey we are in this together!!! So we will hang here!!! Im always excited about any who are in this pipeline.. albeit a tough road... but that is why we are here as mommas and gfs or dads and bfs... just helps so much to have others to talk too!!! so happy you are here with us!
mom2four... AWE kewl ... well, my boys best friends is currently in now but Ill bet they know each other.. its such a tight bunch of guys! Congrats on the class up.. hold your breath... say your prayers and stay right here with us sister.. we are here!!!!!!!
Lydia, when did you stop communicating with your son during SERE. Haven't heard from my son since Wednesday. At that time he said he wouldn't be going into the mountains until next week, but haven't heard from him since then. So was wondering if he already is to a point where he is not supposed to communicate anymore. Just wondering.
Kevin... last I heard from him was on the Thursday of that first week and he warned me not to expect to hear from him for at least another week... so Id say yes... he is off line at this poing sister but hey look... he will be fine.. he will come out of this with much respect for what he is undertaking and much respect for those who actually have had to go through this..God Forbid.. My boy said it was a life changing experience for him.. He is still recovering.. but he is GREAT and your boy will be too!!! Soo... I know that will not help you sleep or eat.. as I did not either for that week.. and be aware.. the phone call will come on a Thursday not Friday.. most likey.. when I saw that number on my cell on Thursday it gave me flash backs of boot camp... I just was not expecting it.. but there he was and he sounded stellar.. so hang in there and Im here for you.. I think I lost more sleep that week than the entire boot camp 6 weeks.. ugggg
mom2 - praying for your Sailor for this upcoming week... its a hard one! My boy best friend is already one week or two I think in... so he is just ahead of him.. Im sure they know each other......
Oh yes, planning logistics now. Next will be planning the two backpacks well ahead of time so we don't forget anything especially like camera/video, and stuff our SR wants us to bring with us. Of course, you know I'm going to end up forgetting something! I just don't want to spend our time together having to go and buy something I forgot to pack :).
Glad to hear you are up for the eventful trip! We can't get our youngest teenager to even come with us for PIR...... at least as of now.
vonee - my son just finished SERE a week ago! But is not grad FRS until late November! I know you will enjoy that trip! Congrats to your Sailor... what will she be doing?? Is she RSS??
onboard - PIR grad is the most amazing... you will NOT want to miss it and your Sailor would be soo disappointed too. They really are proud on that day and need family to be there to show them their pride too. I know you will love it even if the teen wont go!
Thanks for the support. I am a little disappointed in the teenager not wanting to attend PIR but-- we as parents have to let them make some choices with the results on them.... We aren't going to miss PIR for anything! We watched Youtube yesterday and they have a PIR on it. I had tears running down already and I didn't even know anybody in Division 238. I think I will bring my American Flag Bandana and use it for my tears :)
My son starts Sierra A-school on Tuesday 7-5. He's excited. Had a MRI on his wrist last Friday. Doesn't have a MD appt. until the 8th. They said surgery could probably wait until after A-school while on hold for SERE. We'll see.
Andys - thats super!!!! congrats to the class up!!!
onboard - oh yes.. I agree with vonee.... you will be a blubbering crazy woman I promise.. but not to worry... most all the moms and wife were also.. hahahaha!
Hi everyone! Hope all are doing well....Andysmom, very nice on A school - hope he's doing okay with his wrist. Vonee, you're going to SD? Lydia, you're in holding pattern? OnboardMom, Welcome!
If you guys get a chance, could you send a card to this injured Marine? They're attempting to get 1,000. Takes just a minute to pop in the mail. And pass along to your friends. Take care everyone!
Thanks for the welcome! Very excited.... picture for the week is OUR DIVISION 817 HOOYAH on RTC website. They ALL look GREAT!!! Son is extremely excited about doing what he is doing.... I am grateful for all the support offered and wisdom extended. :)
Well, day 2 of RSS done and he says that his team has already lost 2. He's got his eye on the prize and sounds more determined than ever, go class 1114!
mom2four - great determination and focus!!! My son started in a class of 38 and was one of 9 to finish! Such a high attrition rate! Go class 1114! My boys best friend is in class 1113! hoooyaaa to them both!
Lydia, you're welcome.....I guess it's a "Mom thing" but I feel as if all of our military men and women are my children. We obviously can't take care of one and all but when there are times such as this, I always take a moment to reach out. :o)
yes, 1113. the whole class (besides 1 or 2) and wives/girlfriends got together friday for lunch at chili's. they're all such great guys and seem to be in great spirits. i probably met him :-)
My adopted boy's last name starts with Wh... and first starts with R no girl friend or wife at this point .....of course in Spec Ops/Spec Forces... no full names and no photos here on N4M... ask your man if he knows him if he can figure it out or just message me .. .hahahaha!!!! well, when next you see him give him a hug from me his adopted momma... my boy and him have practically grown up together! sooo kewl!
Well, no letter today. Guess after such a great treat yesterday from RTC with SR's unit picture I am going to have to pace myself. Will still hope letter is to arrive by week's end. Rumor has been floating around that if they score a 5 on some test then they could get a 45 min. call home as a good job reward; anybody got the word on this opportunity? Thanks would love to know the low down on this one.
onboard... most all calls for Spec Ops are earned... or also taken away! remember they are held to a VERY high standard!!!! hang in there!!! I never got more than 4 minutes from my boy! And that was earned!!! =0)
I know that when my sailor went was there (PIR 4/1/2011), they scored a few 5's as a unit and were given longer calls due to their ability as a group. Give congrats to your kiddo and hope that they score more because it is really cool to see them earn honor unit at PIR... ask him how many flags they have earned so far. :)
If I have the timeline correct, my son should be finishing up SERE today, or at least be able to call me today. My phone will be my constant buddy today until I get the call. I can't begin to know what he went through these past 2 weeks, but I know they had to be INTENSE.
KevinHMom - OMG!! Hope that call comes sooner than later for you, cant imagine what they go through!!! and what the Moms go through!!! My Sailor goes towards the end of July.
Kevin'sMom, I'm really excited for you that today is the day! The 2nd Thursday was when both Lydia and I heard from our swimmers so attach your phone to you - reminds me of when they were in Boot Camp :o)
Kevin ...... whooop yup today they get out of ummmmmmmmmmm that training hahah! Im sure he did great and learned a lot! Seems I recall my boy calling me mid day... as they were on the bus out... heading to McDonalds... when he calls remind him that tho he is STARVING TO DEATH to be careful not to eat too much.. many boys got really sick cause they hogged down those burgers (some went pizza) and their bodies rejected it!! Let us know as soon as you hear! Actually it took my son a few days to get back to reality and normal... now he is fine... just chomping at the bit to move on next week to FRS~!
Texas.... yes it is just like boot camp isnt it... uggggg! More of the roller coaster ride that JessicaB told us all about back at bootcamp moms.. one year ago for me... one year anniversary of this coming up on July 7th!
Kyles... he too will be fine...
onboard... just hang in there daily.. my best advice is rememeber that the letters you will get will be up and some down... they are really tough on the Specs guys and it is a tough emotional time but in the end when they bust through those doors at PIR ceremony you can not hear yourself think for all the screaming, tears and joy!! My son was a stick (carried a flag) there are some for scholastics and other various awards... the more they win the more flags.. my sons group took the Captains Cup and they wound up with about 6 flags in all.... ask him about them in one of your letters or phone calls... he will know!
mom2four... too funny cause after Battle Stations when they supposedly give that hoooyaa Im a Navy Sailor call... well, mine just said... "Hi mom"............... so I said hi buddy..... whats up ?? anything new?? no not really............ ummm did you pass Battlestations and get your Navy cap........ yup! Then after that 5 minutes... they called time on them and he had to hang up.. Not at all what I expected but he was pooped and they got the least amount of call time that day! hahahaha.... Man he loved his RDCs ... had sooo much respect for them..!
Oh and Onboard.... the 5s can be from inspections to book tests.. they are graded individually on a lot of test but also as a TEAM... TEAM work is tantimount in the Navy and they really teach them that... Captains Cup is a perfect example!
Hi ladies...glad to see everyone is moving on their various paths...heard from my dtr hour ago...her bf is on the bus back to base in SD...she is so relieved, said he sounded good...and HUNGRY!! So SERE down for him, FRS next!!
Thanks for the support and information. I really appreciate you and all you bring to the group here. I realize that I am new and trying to get all the basics and well as all the perinent information I can put into my brain. As all of us are in this together it is great to have your wisdom and thoughtfulness in passing what you know to the next group of MOMs......
Glad to hear it Gabbyhat. So far--no call from my son. This definately reminds me of waiting for that call hearing that they passed battlestations.
I remember that during that time, everyone kept saying no news is good news, and hopefully that applies here too. Actually during boot camp, my son's division earned a call home the day before battlestations. Obviously I wasn't expecting a call, so I was a little panicked when I first saw that number thinking that something was wrong. My son was just like "calm down, we earned an extra call home".
