MamaB, your son will be fine. I will agree with Lydia tho in saying that he needs to take off the plates. The way "they" look at it is they have to earn the title and he isn't through the program yet.

Someone with wheels in Pensacola is in high demand. Tell him that he needs to tell whoever rides in his car that they all have to have the utmost behaviour. This is what's expected at all times. And the next time, hopefully won't be another time, but if so, your son needs to stop his vehicle and tell that person to walk the rest of the way. They don't want any bad behavior to reflect on a swimmer. The swimmers are held to very, very high regard by everyone. And, I'm not saying YOUR son has bad behavior, but he needs to disassociate himself from those who do. Sounds mean doesn't it? But those catcalls to the Sr Chief's 14-yr old daughter...yikes.....not cool by that rider in your son's car.....catcalls to ANY female on base is very prohibited.....but this guy choose a 14 yr old? Ouch.

But, this experience can only make him stronger so just tell him to lift his head and look at those around him...........

    NavyWife, welcome!

Yesterday, when we were going back and forth with those acronym postings, my computer locked up! LOL! I thought well I obviously confused it as much as we were all confused. Hahahhaha!

Uh, yes, Lydia....I have peeked in at this group.....aye yi yi yi.....nice to have that bond with everyone. We have a group from our PIR (2009) and we all occassionally give updates....but your PIR group is a wild and crazzzzzy group, lol! Fun!

Off to mail birthday present to my swimmer son....he celebrated his birthday in boot camp two years ago....it was painful.....for me, that is. :o)
  • TexasMomof2

Karson's Mom, the base in Pensacola is open to the public. You will have to stop at the gate and show your ID and tell them why you're there. Just have the building name, the ceremony, your son's info. Last year, my son had to have a tow truck go on base to pick up his disabled truck. I called security and asked what we needed to do to have the tow truck go on base.....there was this long pause and the guy said, "uh he just needs to drive on base." We visited right after that for one of the graduations and that's the procedure.....
  • TexasMomof2

Jodybrock, your son won't be able to take his phone with him directly from Great Lakes. You can take it with you so he can use it in the hotel room.....but not in public. And he won't be able to take it with him directly to Pensacola. I can't remember at what stage they can use it in Pensacola......LYDIA???? But yes, they can use it. THis is what's wonderful about Pensacola.......all communication opens up.

You can mail it to him in Pensacola. Or he can go to the mall and purchase it himself.....once he gets liberty. I mailed my son's to him but he went and upgraded at the mall when he was able to. And I think they all have those smart phones....I myself don't. But they all seem to have the smart phones.

Welcome to Karson's Mom and JodyBrock!
  • KarsonsMama

thanks texas mom of 2 - i was worried about flying all the way down there from ny and not being able to see him graduate!  thank you.  and yes communication does open up down there. we text and call all the time now, it's so nice to hear their voices! a mom can tell so much by hearing their voice!
  • TexasMomof2

Karson's Mom, I was expecting the same kind of security in Pensacola that they had at boot camp.....like I said, they will talk to you and look inside your car and want to know your intentions but that's it.......have a GREAT time! I'm very happy you're getting to go, you will enjoy spending the time with him!
  • jodybrock

Thanks Texas Mom of 2-- that helps a lot!
  • TexasMomof2

Jodybrock, you're very welcome! We are here to "pay it forward." :o)
  • Mama B

Texasmom- we had his plate changed over a month ago.  The Sr Chief and I both gave him that same advise - watch out whose getting in your car!

Talked to him today and he said they hollared alittle bit more and made him surrender the plate till he earned it (not that it's any good). He sounded fine and knows that they will use most anything to try and break them.

  • mom2four

Lydia, my sailor is in 1114.
As far as celks go, I met him at the airport with his phone and a few ither things he was able to have at that point. I don't remember him not being able to call...
MamaB, asked him abt your son and he said the harrassment was slowing down, but that they all know who he is...the other moms are right, remind him that their job is to try to break them and to stay strong!
He also said a few boys would be joining his class, anybody here??
  • TexasMomof2

MamaB, he will be just fine :o)
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Actually my son said after the fact that he could also have taken his laptop but just not used it for a while.  So we just kept it then he bought a new one ....

Karsons... yup I agree with Ms lovely TEXAS...  graduation not a problem no special clearance.. just follow the rules of going on base.... actually I had a momma here on N4M that lives near there go in and take his pictures of my boys grad... no problems at all.

TexasMom was that your son who talked to my son?

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

    Mama - baahahahahahaha to funny!
  • TexasMomof2

MamaB, I love it, that's tooooo funny!!  It all sound's just fine if they've given him a nickname!

As far as my son talking to your son, I don't believe so......my son's already through the program and is stationed with his squadron in Norfolk.  Was it a nice talk with whomever it was?

  • Mama B

Oh yes it was a nice talk between boys, come to think of it, it must have been MOM2four's son from what she posted yesterday. They just acknowledged that their mom's were discussing his situation on N4M.
  • ILNavyMom

  • ILNavyMom

My son will be transferred soon to Pensacola.... are they allowed to have their vehicles there?
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

ILNavyMom....  go up to the discussions here and use that one.  "Path of a Rescue Swimmer."   This link that you posted here had several mistakes in it.  We corrected them and now it is right up above here in our discussion section.  There have been other kids who came from Buds also.  My friends boy had that experience and is finally after a long time on hold classed up for RSS ....  please read the info up above and that will get you started on information...  Best thing we can tell you is he will have to be patient cause of the long hold times and its different with each one...   Glad you are here with us.....  It is a LONG road up ahead.. so thats why we are here!  My son is almost finished now.  He has been through NACCS, RSS, Sierra A-school, SERE and is into week 2 of FRS.  He will be done in November.   HUGS and welcome!!!!
  • TexasMomof2

ILNavyMom, WELCOME!  Yes, the road above in this group is more accurate.  After you read, let us know if you have any other questions.....Lydia is more recent than I am.......I think I'm getting outdated as my son is already through the program and stationed with his squadron BUT all of us here are to help each other out.  Are you a member of Pensacola group?  It has a lot of information on the base, liberty, etc......about what will happen when he arrives.
  • TexasMomof2

MamaB, when my son was in boot camp and Pensacola, they would all ask each other if their Mom's were a member of the "cult" meaning Navy 4 Moms.......
  • ILNavyMom

dear Texas Mom of 2, could you send me the link for the Pensacola group? Thanks
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

    http://www.navyformoms.com/group/sailorsinpensicolaflforaschool

here ya go IL...  like Texas said man they have great info there...  no so much Rescue Swimmer stuff, in fact Robin, Jacq and Navy mom would probably refer you here for this stuff... but tons of info and answered questions about the bases Phasing up etc etc....  Great group of lovely women there too!

Texas hahahaha - yippie we have so much of a following now that we are a "cult" hahah!  Well, they can call it what they want but we know we could not survive without each other...

  • Mama B

Raise your glasses ladies..... Here's to "THE CULT"

Just think without each other, we'd be houndin them with all our questions and worries.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

    MamaB hahahahah - soo true...
  • TexasMomof2

Lydia: Thanks for the discussion info above. I just switched to this site to follow and that answered a lot of questions. Can't wait until he is back on the East coast!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

IL and Shell - Ill bet they know each other!!!!  How kewl!
  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Heard from my son after day 1 of FRS.  Sounded like they jumped right in with alot of technical stuff.  He didn't sound bored, but it was only day 1.  LOL. He is doing alot of studying, which impressed the heck out of me, because he has never been one to study.  I told him to take a picture of him studying and send to me because I have never seen him do it and it might be an impressive sight. :) He was also chosen as the team leader (or whatever they call it) which is an honor he would rather not have, I think.
  • Mama B

KevinHmom-teehee hee hee very funny!!! Thank God there's still hope for my son than!  I felt that way when he made his bed for the 1st time in BC........ Oh but studying, yes that would be impressive!!
  • Christi

Hi All newbies, welcome to the group. I'm considered an "old plank" here....at least that's what they tell me. Lol. My son has been in 4 years now.

Kevin - well, my B said that he loves learning about the helos but wants to get his butt up in one. I reminded him ... first things first buddy... he then reminded me that he has been at this for a year now hahahahaha.... so cute he is... Oh how I love my boy!!!! Oh and Mama... too funny cause on one of my buddys friends FB pages there is a pix and the title is...... "Me studying... • mom2four

  • Kyle's mom

Hello all! Enjoy hearing about everyone's Sailors! Mine leaves for the big camp out on Saturday. Plz refresh me, exactly when do they go to the country and how many days does it last? I remember everyone seems to hear the good word on Thursday afternoon.
  • Mama B

Lydia LOVE that picture!! Those boys are CUT, especially yours!  Man, it must feel good being on the back side of this all. (light at the end of the tunnel)

Mom2four would that have been a SWIM meet you were at? My younger daughter swims year-round and we have also had the pleasure of seating for 5hrs aday, all 3 weekend days for the past 2 wkends in the sweltering heat. Swim meets, you gotta love them!!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

  • ILNavyMom

Lydia, the boys know each other now. I am so glad Shell and I found each other.
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

IL - very kewl.  Now you will not feel alone!

Kyles - Ill be praying for your boy.... Im sure he will do fine but he will def be different after the experience.  In a good way.  My B said he has a whole new outlook on "things" and a new respect.  What ever all that means hahaha

    Good Morning everyone!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

    Good morning yall!

Kyles...  how ya holding up sista?

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

My son's class took their first (and supposedly hardest) test yesterday, and my son slam dunked it with a 100% score.  So proud of that boy! I knew studying would be good for him. :)  But knowing him even if he didn't study, he would still have gotten a high score.  He is scary smart!

I was reading "the road" discussion above recently and was mighty impressed with what our boys are doing and responsible for every time the helicopter flies.  I've always kind of wondered what they do when they are not rescueing someone.  It's not as if they need to do a search and rescue daily.  God bless all our rescue swimmers!

  • Kyle's mom

Lydia - I'm good, he leaves Saturday. Chatted with him yesterday about it. I have to say that ignorance would have been bliss!!! He did say that anyone he talked to that had been camping said that the experience taught them what they need to know if it should happen, god forbid! Thanks for checking on me, next week will be the hard part, prolly wont think of much else.......
