YES - 1116 HOOYAH and one of their roomates. Hopefully they'll be a good support group to each other.
April- how awesome that our boys continue to progress together from day 1 (PX-90) hee hee. J is getting a little antsy lately and mentioned wanting to visit family in a couple of wks. I asked him if he was crazy ..............
Hi ladies....looking for some help here. My son started boot camp with a rescue swimmer contract on 7/6. He was supposed to have his PIR 9/1/11. We got a message on our home phone that he had been moved to a new division and his graduation date rolled back to 9/9/11. Has anyones SR had this happen and if so what are some common reasons why it happens??
Those of you in TX, God bless you all! I saw pictures on the news of just how bad the drought is there in your neck of the woods, not to mention the intense HEAT. Praying for rain and working air conditioners!!
Lydia- Man am I happy for your boy and the sense of relief you both must be feeling. Let the adventure begin!!
As you know, my son starts RSS on Monday with April's hubby and I'm a bag of nerves............as one of the other moms said, I'll probably qualify to be a nun by the end of this with all the prayers I'll be saying!!
WoW...Haven't been on in a few days but it sounds like alot has fallen into place. It is amazing how so much can change in just a few hours..These guys seem to have an incredible ability to adjust quickly...even when things don't go as planned, they get themselves refocused and carry on in a positive direction...Thank Goodness...we all know the bottom line is that everything works out exactly the way it is supposed to and it is not always on our schedule...it just isn't always easy to accept that right away...taking this journey with our loved ones gives us alot of practice in this department, right along with them....yikes !!! lol...every time they get rolled or have a glitch in their progress, it is a wonderful opportunity for them to meet more friends and buddies who they bond with...I am thrilled for all of the support they give each other and for all the support we get from each other here....my son met a great guy in BC and they expected to go to Pens. together...instead, his friend was held on medical and they spent months upside down and inside out through the pipeline...fortunately meeting great friends along the way...miraculously..they ended up going through and graduating RSS together and are now roomates...wonders never cease...it's a fascinating ride..I continue to keep you and your sailors in my thoughts and prayers....
kresgball - hummmm --- usually when that happens the Sailor failed to meet his 3rd and final PT scores (and can re-test) or failed the Battle Stations or got sick or injured... if the entire group moved then just a technical problem Id say.... He might be embarassed to tell you any of the above... Usually I have heard that it is the last PT score that he may have come up short... YES I have heard this several times... from failed scores to sickness... Id say if it is only one week off... then he failed a test (no big deal tho) ... retook it and passed but got knock down a different date by one week... hang here with us and let us know please!
Navymom... hi again sister!
MamaB - I live in Texas and I can tell you we are BURNING UP! We were actually praying for that Tropical Storm to hit... funny huh?? We are desperate... so hot and dry.... Okay you and April need to stay close in touch with us... this is the hardest thing you will go through in this pipeline!
kres.... hang in there... he will do fine... some times there are minor set backs... let us know what you find out!!! Well you will want to attend his PIR oh man that was one of the best days of my life..... Ill never forget so try to make sure of the details!
I send a care package to my boy in San Diego.. and here is one thing I put in it today... of course when they are over seas unfortunately you can not send home made as it takes about 5 - 6 weeks to get to them but..... while they are past NACCS and RSS and A school... during FRS and SERE you can send them goodies.... Oh man this is so good I had to share it.... my boy did not let me send him anything while in NACCS and RSS... they made fun of them he said... but check with your boy... might be different... only after A school did I send anything........
Wooooooooow this Granola i made is the bomb... I made the receipe and then I made a different one and changed it up a bit... here they are
Line a 9 - inch square (of you have rectangle like mine then when you spread the mixture on it - it wont go all the way to the end but thats okay..) baking sheet with foil... spray with cooking spray - (I used butter flavored - oh that made it even better). Preheat oven to 400..
2 cups old fashioned oats (not instant)
3/4 cup of dried fruit... I used chopped dried apricots and dried cranberries.
1 cup of TOASTED almonds
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 stick unsalted butter
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup honey
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
hand full of coconut flakes (even if you dont like em use it anyway you will never know its in there but it sweetens the saltiness up a bit yummmmmie)
* note - I had a jar of marschino cherries in the fridge... so I put a table spoon of cherry juice in with the liquids in the pot--- yummie..
In a mixing bowl combine the oats, dried fruits, toasted almonds, cinnamon and salt... just stir it up with your clean hands to mix it all up... then
In a sauce pan....Mix the honey, brown sugar, butter and cherry juice (you dont have to use the cherry juice but really gave a hint of flavor that was awesome!)
heat until the butter melts and it comes to a boil... immediately put in 1 tsp of the vanilla, stir.. take off burner....
Pour the liquid into the dry ingrediats and mix completely!
Pour mixture onto the sheet pan with foil and press down with your fingers or spatula.. needs to be somewhat thin to be crunchy...
Bake 400 for (mine took 18 minutes to get brown - my first batch I left in for almost 20 minutes and it was really brown - still good tho.)
Take out... put on rack to totally cool and break up into medium pieces...
Now on my second batch when I put the hot liquid part into the dry - I put a hand full of milk chocolate morsals too.... gave it a hint of chocolate but not over powering... YUMMIE..
Just rememeber to let it totally cool before you break it up..... You can vary this a billion ways
Lydia, that sounds delicious !! My son also wouldn't let me send anything...he too said it wasn't worth the trouble it would cause...I was very surprised, I thought it was fine once they got out of BC...
Kres...it is so hard wondering and not getting answers...it can be agony...the waiting seems forever but all is forgotten when you get to graduation...that's the good news..he is STILL graduating..lol..it truly is an amazing and emotional time...getting there is the hard part !!! Good wishes and prayers for all...
MamaB and April...I am so glad for you and your guys that there is someone familiar to go through this with...I am the newly ordained nun..lol..lol... and this is funny..I pray on a regular basis but I don't often go to church..after getting a txt saying my son had to pass more then one test the next day I knew I had to kick it into even a higher gear..I decided to go to mass the next morning and again the same day to another mass at a shrine out east from where I live...I felt desperate and it helped my son AND me...he passed everything that day so on the day he graduated I went back to both places again to say special prayers of Thanks...when I went into the chapel there were several nuns...at the end of the mass the priest acknowledged them and I laughed in my head thinking of how I keep joking that I qualify to be a nun albeit, the flying nun..a bit of a handful one..hahahahaha I don't know when the last time was that I saw a nun, never mind 5 of them...a heavenly joke for sure...it will be a trying time...I know the guys are beyond exhausted at the end of the day but I asked my son to just help me stay somewhat sane by sending me a quick txt each night to let me know that he got through another day...I will be sure to keep you and your guys in my prayers...extra special ones !!!
Navymom - what a kewl story sister... hey I LOVED the flying Nun she was sooo human in a spiritual way... man what ever happened to those great old days and the shows we watched... now its "Reality" tv what ever that is and blood guts and gore!! Oh well.... anyhooo... so happy your prayers worked... God is Great and LIfe is soooo good... froth with difficulties we all know that.... but in the end ... It is Good!
NavyWife... Super prayers for him and you!!! Be patient if you dont have too much contact... remember they are up at 0400 beaten down with PT and then to the pool for more beat down... test and then in the evening they have study groups for the next day - not much phone time...... focus is key to his making this.... encouragement and patience on your part... we love you sweetie.. right here for you!!! holler if you need us at any time!
Hello all! Have my blue candles burning for my Sailor at SERE!!! Cant stop thinking about him and sending him strength. Can't wait for that call on Thursday, hope he is doing OK.
Hey Lydia- yeah, it's classes 1115 & 1116 right now, 1114 graduated last week. :) I heard that things were going well yesterday in 1115, so hopefully all is still well.
Well made it to Day 3, it's going to be a looooooong 5 wks!! J got a counseling chit for having a tough time keeping up on the fast pace run. He said he could do push-ups and sit-ups and swim all day long but running in this brutal heat is killing him. So much so that on Day 2 he was told by his roomies that during a class (I think it was) he just started talking out of line and won't stop but the Drill Instructors were familiar with this HEAT related condition and just let him go on talking. He has no recollection of this happening.
Needless to say, I have a very hard time talking to him on the phone, because I can't make it any easier for him. I let my husband get all the info, he"s not so emotional.
Lydia, T has classed up he is in 1116 I believe, he started Monday. So far so good. Hi everyone, I am a friend of Lydia's for 818. Did not know his class til just now. Mama B: I hope your son is OK, that is kinda scary. I just text my son-don't want him to know how anxious this makes me.
Welcome Roxanne! So T is in class with my son and Navywife's husband. And yes text is best because as a mother you can detect their state of being by the very sound of their voice. It can make or break your day..................
Mama B...The hubby said is was another hard day as well. The heat here in Pensacola in unbearable. So it is hard on everyone in RSS. They keep motivating each other and are pushing though.
Oh the heat is horrible! 107 here in Central Texas. Was in Pensacola last year and you take the heat there & combine it with the humidity.....yikes. Did you know the human brain is comprised of approximately 75% water? Of course, we all know the importance of water.......our Sailors do and their instructors certainly do. Just stress to them to make sure they are drinking water allll day, morning, noon, night. Not just when they're in the "heat of the day" or when they're in the "PT" sessions......they should be drinking throughout the day.
Our Sailors are tough! In tough times take tough measures.....so drink drink drink fluids.....HOOYAH! I'm so proud of all of them!
Waiting for that call.............couldn't sleep last night..........no news is good news but I can't wait to hear! I'm ready for SERE to be OVER!!! (sure he is too!) Hope he calls asap, just need to know he's OK. 21 years of taking care of his every need is hard to let go of. Hooyah Navy Rescue Swimmers!!
Kyle's-I'm sure he is OK and you will hear from him soon. Then you can start breathing again. :)
This time last year my son shipped out for Great Lakes. Still amazes me how far he has come in a year. I'm sure even more transformation is in store for him next year and next year I will be saying the same thing.
HI Roxanne! So glad you are here with some fellow classmate moms and wives! Very scarey I know... been here done this... I dont think I slept much the first 3 of his 6 RSS weeks.... That is when they lose the most to failure or DOR so lots of prayers for yall!!!!!!
Kyles - Im sure he will call you soon... I know they eat sleep and debrief that next day... then they also start breathing again and thinking about their loved ones. hang in there sista!!!!!!!
Texas - same here in north east TX... My ac in my house can not get below 85 during the afternoon... so even inside my house is HOT!!!! and no rain anywhere to be seen! Trees are dying... sooooooo sad ! How your boys??
YES LOTS OF WATER too but dont let them forget the Gatoraide... They dont have to drink a ton of it but one or two a day will help with the electrolytes. My son had to take some Potassium pills to help with cramping legs from all the running! It is brutal! They will put them to the brink of exhaustion and then bring them back again...
Andysmom! Kewl.. my buddies buddy R classes up this Monday I think he said.
Greetings! I got a call, 6:40 Texas time! Been waiting ALL DAY!!!! He sounded so good, happy and pumped. Had a shower and they were trying to decide where to eat. Said it was a great experience and that it made him appreciate a bunch of things............Glad that's over!!! Thank you to all my Navy Women Friends for the kind thoughts and prayers! HOOYAH Navy Rescue Swimmers!
Kylesmom- Yaaaahooooo! The light at the end of the tunnel, Congrats to your son.
Roxanne- I know that worry your talkin about, but trusting my Savior will be with him all the way. "If He brings you to it, He can bring you through it!"
Congrats to all the Sailors and their families who made it through their first week of RSS and for those classing up and finishing up...what a relief !!!
Welcome Roxanne, glad you all have each other to check in with..what a blessing..
Kylesmom....HooooYaaaaa and a Yipeeeee....So glad that is over for both of you...that is something I dread and I can only imagine how difficult it is to get through it as a loved one and for him...I have been praying for all these guys so much this week especially...I will continue to...it is amazing how deeply it affects each of us as others go through it...it is an experience that we all can empathize with... I'm not sure anyone could imagine how challenging it is unless they have gone through this...I'm so grateful for everyones support and happy to send good wishes and prayers to all...
NavyWife.. super fantastic... week one is a tough high attrition rate week super great... hooooyaaaaa for your man!!!!!!!! and you too sista!
My B did his first SAR sea rescue training --loved it..... it was awesome he said... makes all this training and BS worth while!.... sooooooo tell the boys to hang in there... light at the end of the tunnel you might say..!!!
Lydia-cool that your son had his first sea training. I know my son can't wait until he gets to do that. My son took his second test and did very well. Second highest score, so he is still one of the highest scoring in his class.
Congrats to all the sailors that completed week 1. Hang in there ladies and continue to be your sailor's biggest cheerleader.
