So, its aweful quiet in here... how are our boys who are in weeks three and four and five and how are our Sailors who had to roll?? Any class up news for them??
My boys buddy R is more than half way through Aschool Sierra and will go to SD and guess what... my son does not have a roomate in SD so they are hoping to put in a request... Best Friends back together again!! hahahah I love it cause a year ago when my B went in first and then half a year later R went in I told my B that one day they would be back together and heheheh I was right (I think) at least close and on the same base for a while!!!!! Isnt God so great!
that is so cool Lydia. When my son joined when he was in high school, he had a buddy that joined the marines. As fate would have it, they met up again in pcola when they were both in training. God's plan regarding who comes in and out of our lives is truly convoluted.

Hi everybody! I'm new here and need as much information as you can possibly give me. My son was in BUDS in SD and DOR'd last week. After being there since June, he has realized that this is not the course he wants to take. It was a hard decision for him to make and ringing that bell was very tough, but he followed his gut. So today he met with a counselor and decided he was going to do Air Rescue Swimmer. I'm trying to find out as much information as you can on this. He will be leaving SD probably within the week. Not sure yet. HELP a mom who is going crazy!! :) Thanks ahead of time. My internet has been going in and out because of our lovely friend Irene so if you don't hear from me soon that will be the reason. Thanks again!!

ProudMomma-there is a discussion above regarding path to rescue swimmer that you might find helpful. Lots of info on the schools your sailor will go through and timeline info.
Thanks Kevin and Mom! He wants Sierra, just so we can hurry up and be at a permanent duty station- he's been in a year and a half and still floating around in student status... Lol. He was at BUD/S for 8 of those months.. Were making progress.. However, it doesn't make a difference to me which A- school he gets. Either or. =). Just happy to be spend the time I have with him..
Been quite a while since I've been on here! My son is halfway through a school in pensacola, and will be Sierra in Norfolk; we're happy about that, although I thought he'd choose SD again, having started out there as many of them do. He loved SD! He said he decided to let some of the guys who have never been out there pick SD so he went with Norfolk (about a 5 or 6 hour drive from 'home' versus a $500 flight!) so we're happy anyhow. He said the A school is so boring, lots of down time and he's chomping at the bit to get moving with this! He is sick of the Pensacola heat; I reminded him that winters aren't too much fun up north, but he said he misses the seasons.
I guess we'll have to see what happens. As we know, chances are he'll be on hold for who knows how long after A school before going to Norfolk. Then what's next, not sure about that!

Spec Warefare have to pass BUDs before they can advance to SEALs etc... high attrition rate just like Rescue Swimmers.... about 75% to 80%... gotta want it more than anything my son told me...
Lydia, He was able to come home for 7 days. Awesome since I haven't seen him since Christmas. He goes back to the doctor on the 13th so I'm hoping the bone is completely healed. He is going nuts with that cast and limiting his work outs to pretty much running. Do you have Facebook?
So jealous that you get pics Lydia. My sailor said that he will not be able to take any pics of him in the helo or in the water like your son did. He is pretty bummed about that. Apparently they are pretty strict about that in Virginia. And pics of him in his flight suit like this....doubtful they will happen. My son doesn't like to take pictures of himself. He doesn't get that a momma just drinks this stuff up!!!

Kevin's Mom, don't feel alone......my son's the same way. I do have one of him in the helo but that was it. He told me the same thing that your son did about taking photo's while in FRAC and he was in San Diego......now that he's in Norfolk, I have a couple but was told upfront by him that because of OPSEC, I couldn't post on N4M's.......darn! I'd love to be able to share with you ladies.....rather proud like I know we all are! 8o)

One year ago TODAY I was in Chicago screaming my head off and crying like a baby watching my boy PIR.... today he is flying in helos! I cant believe it has been one year!!! sheeeeeesh where does the time go!
The hubbs graduated RSS yesterday, got a four day weekend, and got the A-school he wanted. Its been a good week, to say the least! =) He will be Sierra!

Lydia, yes, the temperature is beautiful! However, please pray for Central Texas....we have fires all around us. We, ourselves, came close to having to evacuate yesterday. In Bastrop, which is about 30 miles away, 500 homes have burned......15,000 acres and it is still not contained. They are asking for Ft Hood military to come in and assist. Fires to the south of Austin and fires to the west of Austin. Thankfully no casualties.
How is EVERYONE??!!! I feel so out of touch with everything......work started back up for me a couple of weeks ago and I'm trying to get back in the groove. I'm still not there :o)
Yes Texas... our dear Rider friends who live in Magnolia (north of Houston) are evacuating right now as Im typing... my other friends can not find her momma in Bastrop... we have one just on the other side of the lake from us... you can smell the smoke! so not even just central but now over here in the north and east of Houston!
Oh dear......I do know that Bastrop is very bad in terms of who has to evacuate and damage. I'm sure your friends' Momma is okay - they've been great with getting everyone out. U guys need any contact info to see if she's at a shelter? My hubby's partner (law enforcement) lives in Bastrop and his home burned today...thought they were safe but noooo....

A couple of months ago we threw out the idea to my sailor of our coming out to see him for Thanksgiving (we are in california, he in virginia). Sounded like he was really excited for the idea, and I was thinking we would go out on Wed and come home on Monday. It is looking more and more like we are going to be able to afford to go, so when I re-presented the idea to my son, he sounded a little surprised that the stay would be so short and asked if we could extend our stay a little longer. Surprised the heck out of me because our relationship with our son is only as close as he will let us get and normally he would never have asked us for something like this.
Texas.. Im so sorry for your hubby partner.. insurance can never replace the memories!!!!! Our Rider friends house is still standing thank the Lord!

It is very quite in here...where is everyone? Quick text from my sailor saying FRS is still going well, scoring in the top 1 or 2 in his class. His class hasn't started flying yet though. Seems like he has been in FRS forever but it has only been about 2 months.
Kevin... I know right! Seems to take forever but once they start those flights they are larger than life hahaha! I bet he will start next week or so! B is on his I think 4th or 5th.... I have to catch up... last night their power was off in SD so could not get much info from him.. Our boys are doing great sounds like!
Well made it through week 4 of RSS and earned A-team status WHOOP WHOOP! Keep'in Aprils hubby in our prayers, retry on Monday. RSS has me emotionally drained......... But for a great cause!!
