Roxanne- FRS itself is 6 months.  I am assuming that FRS is the same length of time for Romeo as it is for Sierra, but that is my assumption.  I don't know for sure.  My son arrived in Norfolk in the beginning of June, he went to SERE for 2 weeks in the middle of June, and started FRS in the middle of July.  So there is still some minor hold time here and there while waiting to start FRS after A school.  But once FRS started, it has been all business, and lots of studying, which a different experience from A school (at least for my son).

KevinHMom, Thank you for the info.  I am glad they get so much training, hopefully they will be prepared for all types of situations.
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Hey yall...  Im just wondering about our sister Kyles.....  the fire the new house the other fires.... just wondering how she is.... wondering about her sailor....  =0(

Kyles.... holler if you can!!! plz.. we worry!!!!

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Lydia-my son sort of knows Kyle's son.  I will see if he knows anything.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Kevin... okay honey thank you ... been worried about them!
  • NavymomGG

Hello A Rod..Welcome...You certainly have an amazing family...So many giving hearts....I think my son is right behind your son..I wouldnt be surprised if they know each other...My son had originally started earlier but he had a medical rollback...He will graduate A school in December...he is Romeo also...it is almost a year since he left for GL and everyone can't wait to see him for the holidays...it's been a long haul...

The springs where they go camping must be pretty popular..My son has been there several times and they love it...Roxannes T is so thoughtful...He and one of the other guys were there with a large group of sailors and my son stayed on base for the long weekend because my daughter and I were going for a visit..Well when T and one of the other boys heard we were coming, they cut their weekend short to come back to see us...I had met them when we were there in June and they told my son to tell me they would be sure to come back in time to get together..They kept their word and we had a great time...Incredibly special guys...

As far as Romeo A school being on the easy side...all I know is...thats not what I heard..lol..lol...

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Navymom ---- awe thats a great post!!!!  brings tears to my eyes... these kids are sooo great and sweet... Big Bad Sailors.. hahah!!!

Oh I hear that Romeo is NOT easy... actually I understand that the studying is very intense as it is a technical part of the RSS rate!  I think perhaps it is that there is less combat involved as the Sierra guys have but lots more  long term studying and longer time in A school!  Tough stuff but great techno training!   My B is happy with Sierra..   hooyaa to Romeo and Sierra!  Hooyaa to RSS!!!  whooop whooop!   GO NAVY   =0P

  • Mama B

NavymomGG -  Rox's son T is so thoughtful, he and another boy picked my younger son up from the airport when my J was kept in class longer then expected. They had no idea what he looked like, so they looked him up on facebook and went and got him!!  When J got done with class he raced back to his room to get his car keys to run to the airport and his brother was sitting on his bed waiting for him.    You done good Roxanne!!
  • roxanne

Mama B and NavymomGG, You are both awesome, Thank you!!  I know T did for his friends what they would have done for him.  We all raised wonderful son's who have each others backs, I Thank the Lord for that. I am glad they have each other since their families are so far away. It is so great to hear he is thoughtful!  Praying for your sons and families!  Hugs!!!

Lydia, GO NAVY!!! And Thank God for N4M for bringing us all together!!!

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Lydia-my son hasn't seen kyle's son in awhile, so no update from that quarter. Sorry.
  • NavyWife10

Does anyone here who had a son in Virginia (for Frac) for Thanksgiving last year remember how long they got off ? My husband will be arriving there about two weeks before Thanksgiving, so I was just trying to find out how long he should have off... Thanks in advance :)
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

    Hey yall!!!

Kevin.. dang it... Im really worried about her (them) well, tell him thank you for trying anyway!

The3Cs....  gosh I suppose if they do not pull duty that day... prob Tkxgiving day..perhaps also the day after... similar to the bases going on stand down for Christmas... but if he gets duty then that will change that...  I recall that my boy had (Pcola) Thanksgiving day and the next day and the weekend.. cant rememeber if he pulled any duty.. I dont think he had too.. so plan for the worse but hope for the best... hahaha... where have we all heard that before???  How is he and how are you sister!????  Are you living in VA now.. I can remember?

Rox...  you rock and Rox's son rocks baaaahahahahahaha!  =oD   actually all our sons seem to be just steller...  guess that is why the calling into Spec Ops is in their blood.. they just have to be a brotherhood to survive and they know that right MamaB!!!

  • Mama B

  • sweetpea4

Hey Lydia, did you get alot of donations for our boys overseas?
  • sweetpea4

Congrats for all the new  RSS Thursday!! Major hurdle!!!!
  • CaliMom (Maryann)

cruisin-so cool you get to go to RSS graduation.  I missed my son's.  I don't have many regrets in my life, but missing that is one of them.  It wasn't something that I really had a choice on, financially we just couldn't swing it.

Lala- Welcome. Has your son already contracted to be a rescue swimmer? My son contracted as a Rescue Swimmer while he was in high school also.  So I can relate to your position.

  • sweetpea4

Lala, make absolute sure this is what he wants to do! Open water swimming a must! Make certain he is aware of the success rate and options avail if he DOR's! Not an easy program!!!

  • cruisinkitkat(Ship 04/Div 812)

Hi everyone and thanks for the welcome.  I am so excited to get to go to his graduation.  We are very lucky that we get to go to his graduation.  We live 6 hours from Pensacola, so we are driving down tonight, staying at the Navy Lodge and spending a few days.

Can anyone help me with the dress code for this graduation. My son tells me he is more excited about this one then BC because he feels like he is making progress.  He has only been in Pensacola since June and I think he is definitly making progress.    A year ago we were celebrating his 18th birthday (nov ) and today he is a US Navy Rescue swimmer, I realize he still has lots to do, but man he has done alot in a year...

Thanks again for the welcome, look forward to talking to everyone.

  • April

Cruisinkitkat....dress code is casual!  I just wore some nice black pants and a a cute shirt.  It is a wonderful graduation!  We got to walk around the RSS building and see all the things that they do during training.  The ceremony is not to long and then they get liberty for the day and can hang out with you!  It is real nice.  Enjoy graduation!
  • sweetpea4

cruisinkitkat, Casual dress code, (Work casual)  no faded blue jeans, no high heels. You will get a tour of the swimming pool very slick area to walk on!!! I wore casual slacks.  This is my opinion about the dress code, you are there to honor you Son's or Daughters accomplishment!-
  • sweetpea4

I know you are very proud of your son! Congrats! There will be more graduations and other opportunities to see him! Hooray!!!!
  • sweetpea4

Yep, they just might! The Navy is a small world!!!

HEY YALL  - those going to graduation of RSS...  can some one please take a moment to find the Honormen Award plaque which hangs inside the RSS building and take a picture of it ... my son is the most recent recipient of that award and I have no photo of the plaque... THank you sooo much   Love yall!!!!

sweetpea... you gave the most sister!!!   love you ...

Hey anyone hear from Kyles yet.???  Bastrop fire?? ugggggg Im worried!

  • Mama B

Congrats to the newest RSS graduates! My son is in A school now and has an opening for a new roomie (since somebody got brown bag status) so could be one of your sons.

He's finding A-school (Romeo) to be a little more challenging then he first thought.

  • cruisinkitkat(Ship 04/Div 812)

Lydia. I will grab that picture for you tomorrow.

Just left my son. Can't wait for tomorrow.

  • wendypcolamom

I get chills each time I read about the graduations.  What a proud moment.  I pray that God gives my son the strength, endurance, stamina, and knowledge that he will need to get through this training.  Congratulations to all that graduated today!
