AIRRMOM - hi there Im so sorry I missed the earlier post... sometimes we will be posting at the same time and then I wont see it! Welcome welcome sista!!!!!! What squadron is your son attached too at this point. My son will be getting his attachment and orders very soon!! Yes that hug is all I can think about these days! Im a nervous wreck waiting for this to be over! Well, the training part.... The worry is NEVER over!!!!!!
Wendy - hoooooyaaaaa for our boy passing week one!!!! Now lets pray him through approaches and releases week 2 and 3 and he will be pretty much over that BIG hump tho he will continue to study and focus!!
A-rod.... great!!!!! they all seem to learn such a new focus after they are finished with that!
MamaB.... still praying for your boy too. How was the end of his week this week??
sweetpea... how is your boy?? He is on hold still for A-school right??? Its hard to remember everyone and where we all are unless you takes notes hahaha!!!!
A-rod - SOOOOOO happy for your son, what a relief it must be for him!! Is he Sierra? Romeo?
Lydia and Sweetpea - Thank you ladies for lifting my son up in prayer, it means so much to me (and to him)!!
Question- are any of you familiar with the TSP (Thrift Savings Plan?) I think it's like a 401k plan. Do you know if they match? We told my son he should be putting money away, but he flabbergasted to know he wouldn't get it back till in his 60's = REALITY
MamaB - my B is putting in a percentage out of each check... Now that you mention it... Im not sure if they have access to it without penalty or if it is like a full retirement plan... Ill have to look it up??? Seems to me that it is like a 401k yes... Right now they are in bonds... but my financial advisor friend said they can change that after training into stock accounts or Mutual Funds etc... Ill have to dig deeper.
My Son is on hold for A school. Should start before Thanksgiving! He is Sierra, and just got brown bagger status! yeah at least he can be with his wife during the evenings! Things are good thanks for asking!!!
Mama B, Glad you told me about J, I will be praying for him. I have a feeling something is going on with T, but he does not share information like your J. He doesn't want to worry us but,I bet he is having the same struggles as J. I will be praying for all of them.
ibmom, They have to be back on base Jan 2nd not sure what time. T flew out on the 1st last year. Very easy to get to the airport and it was empty. That was BWI in Baltimore.
ARod... yup right place right time for all our kids! Romeo is more technical... they refer to them sometimes and sub chasers... I understand from my son that they stay pretty much near the fleet of ships flying in "Starboard D" (Up above and over the ships) There is a lot of technical warefare stuff in the choppers. Sierra is more combate rescue.. sea but also on land behind enemy lines... they are sometimes called to go in and pull out wounded etc.. not what I want to think about!!! ugggggg But that is what my boy wanted so I know he is happy... the schooling was much shorter for Sierra also! Romeo is hard... praying the kids will do well... sure will help to have good instructors!!!!!!!!!!!
Ann - yea, he probably does not know... they go on hold once out of RSS... sometimes just a few weeks or like as in my sons case a month and half... you can share photos... just none that reveal names, (ie uniform with name showing tags..or when they are out of training.. nothing that gives ANYTHING away... hahaha - most of mine are secured on FB... ) like over there you see my pix of my son... nothing showing that gives any info.. otherwise... post them on your MY Page and we can friend you and see them.. Better to be cautious.. but my all means... if you have one that meets the safety criteria.. just go up and click on the little picture thingie next to the word "link" then it will ask you to browse and find the photo (where ever you have it stored) click on that then finish upload or what ever it says ... super easy hahaha!!!
Mama B, Just talked to T, he is with J. Back one week, but they have a better teacher now. He said he and J will both make it and he has been cheering J up. Kinda sounded like T needs cheering up. Praying for all of them, so glad they will be coming home in six weeks. They need some family time.
Praying for our Romeo boys!!! The instructor can make or break the classroom.. Im glad that this worked for the good for them and they got a better teacher and they are together... KEWL for Rox and Mama B!!!!!
Ann1 - yes best to err on the side of caution! I cant wait to see them though! Ill send you a friend request if I have not done so already..
A-Rod, I'm so encouraged by your words. Yes you are right God does have a perfect plan for their lives and we should rest in knowing that. I'm glad your son was able to find good church, my J hasn't had much luck there, but loves going to ours when he comes home.
ARod.. yes.. awesome sister... we shall pray for EOD if that is what he wants ultimately... I always say and pray... Lord.. please put my kids in the right place at the right time for the right reasons!!!!
Tam - I know that the USO does a nice Thanksgiving for the Sailors there on the base.. my son went last year to Dennys. I think he was Phase one.. they had on uniforms I think but went to Dennys.. most kids went to the USO cause they could stay all day and goof of and play video games etc... have him check into that... Correct me if Im wrong cause its been a while now.. but Phase one they can leave base for the day only and they have to be in uniform...
HEY YALL remind your Sailors about the free and discounted meals on Friday.. here is a link:
Welcome Tam and congrats to your sailor on the almost completion of that all important first step of getting through boot camp. Hopefully you get to go to PIR and share in that very proud moment with all the sailors.
Tam-last year my son went to the USO for Thanksgiving. They had some type of entertainment/performance there for him that he really enjoyed.
Tam welcome!!! Get ready for the roller coaster ride! We Mom's are always on pins and needles, but we rally together and help each other through the process! So hang on and enjoy the ride you'll be most proud of your Sailor!!!
PIR is awesome! Make sure you get there early. Be in the second to right lane as the right lane ends. You'll move up faster on the way into the gate. Bring tissues!
I took a shuttle bus from the hotel, less stressful! I was on the first bus to leave so I had plenty of time. Easy way to come and go! Highly recommend for the PIR
HI navywife.. how is it going with you and the man??
sweetpea... we actually took our rental car.. not too bad and at least after PIR we could run to get him some real food before going to the hotel.. but Id have to agree.. the shuttle is the way to go in my opinion.. now at our PIR we had one of the largest that year that month.. so the line at our hotel started at 5:00 am just to get on the first bus or second... so that was kinda not great for all them.. my car took off at 6:00 and we were front row .. but I worried about the long line back at the hotel.. but yes all in all... the shuttle is the way to go!
TAM - woooo hoooo - are you at the Meet n Greet then????? Tissues and be sure and secure your camera around your wrist.. as mine bit the dust UNDER the bleachers and some sweet kid had fetch it for me haha.! God bless him! Scream, cry ... yup be prepared!
Hi Andysmom!!!!!!! yup Tricks of the Trade! good advice!
Calimom... oh boy still cant get used to the new name hahahahahahah! How are you sista!!??
The weather was awful when I was there in Jan! Snowed in, and this Florida girl didn't trust herself to drive in those conditions not knowing where I was going! LOL Was stranded by the snow storm and delayed getting home for a few days!
Ann1 --- great pix.. so handsome!!!!! I have lots of photos on my My Page of my son also!!
AIRR --- Hey there! My son is currently in San Diego.. he is at the very end of his Rescue Swimmer Pipeline and will graduate next month.. He will not know what his Squad or orders are until right around graduation. When they get out of A school, they are attached to a Training Squadron.. then they attach them to their actual squad.. sooo we dont know where he will go from there. He was hoping Guam but I just dont know yet. Im on pins and needles of course but Im just glad that this phase of our life is about over and then only all new worries hahaha!!!
sweetpea... it was very nice in GL when B PIRd... it was 09-02 .. I cant imagine being there in the winter time ... yuck!!!
AIRR Mom.. how could we have missed each other??? Okay I just friended you just now... Ill send you all his info on a message.. but for now... first initial B last name starts with McC...... thinking also that it might be Jan too.. which is fine with me hahahahahahah.... Oh Im sure if your son is there and my son is too they know each other.... I want to go so badly.. Im praying on the finances to go!!! He tells me not to.. but rather wait and have fun at Christmas.. but other than PIR... Ive not been able to be at any of his grads.. always my friends go and they take pix... I would love to go and suprise his little arse... so Im praying about it working out... just dont know!!!! Anyhoooo check you friend inbox!!! He is HSC3...??????
Good Saturday ladies!!! I missed everyone yesterday... I must admit... my Nam Vet hubby and I celebrated at the American Legion ALL day!!!
AIRR - okay... well... like you yes we are soo proud and happy that soon they will get orders and start doing what it is they signed up to do!!!! Im just anxious I suppose.. cause I dont like the fact that Sierra are involved in battle situations but heck.. he is happy so Im happy I think!!!!
CaliMom .... WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO gonna squeeze that boy of your to pieces Im sure! hahaha
Ann and sweetpea... Ill bet they know each other.. cause most of all those guys hang out in groups anyway! very kewl brotherhood...
Ann - thank you... yes they are handsome good boys (ooops men!)
Wendy - where are you... ??? Ive missed you Im worried about you?? how is our boy doing?? Ill go back a few pages to see if I missed a post from you....
Lydia & AIRR mom-it's been a long road and I'm sure your sailors are ready, anxious even, to be done with this part of training and get their orders. You both must be so proud.
Ann1 - It really does vary... but you can pretty much figure that both pipelines... Sierra and Romeo are from about 14 to 18 months... just depends.. Romeo has much more school house training so theirs is a bit longer... my sons will be a total of about 16 months... sierra... give or take???
My B went in in November of 2009... he went to BC July of 2010 PIRd 09-02-2010 and now almost finished .... almost...
I don't believe there are any within walking distance of NAS Pensacola. There is a Holiday Inn Express on Warington Road that is close to the base. I would stay there.
