My son is going from Pensacola to Jacksonville.  Does anyone know what it's like at the Jacksonville base and what the schooling consists of?

  • roxanne

B's Mom, Sorry I don't know much about Jacksonville.  Is your son going to FRAC school in Jacksonville?  Did he just finish A school?  My son is starting 9th week Romeo, with nine to go.  Just left to go back to Pensacola! We had a great visit!!! Good luck to your son!

    Happy New Year Everyone!!!!!

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Lydia-went to see Sherlock Holmes with my sailor and the rest of the family.  They all loved it.  I was a little lost sometimes.

Gotta say good bye to my sailor tomorrow morning, so going to make one more home cooked meal tonight.  I hate saying good bye.

  • NavyMom93 (DIV: 823)

Happy New Year to all! A little late I know, but we've been very busy with my son. Watching him try to fit as much as he could into what little time he had was quite an experience. He loved the cake I made him. It was a four tier cake with an RC Rescue Helicopter on it, and decorated in blue stars with yellow piping. Two of the layers were blue and two were yellow. He took a video of it with his iPod so he could show his friends. We had to take him back yesterday and we did our best in making it a happy trip.

I hope all of you have had a wonderful time with your sailors. Warm Hugs!!!!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Just put my son on the plane back to P'cola an hour ago.  Fixed his favorite meal last night.  Did not see him as much as his siblings would have liked but he was busy hanging with friends. I know he will be glad to get back to a routine, he felt lost at times without a schedule but he had a blast.  Should be in SD in a few months, then we will see him more as we are just a hours away.

Hope all of you had great visits as well.  Wishing you all a Happy New Year!

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Put my son on a plane a few hours ago as well.  As much as he enjoyed being home and seeing family and friends, he was eager to get back to the east coast to see his other RSS buddies.

He estimates he will be done with FRS about the end of this month.  Hooyah!! He continues to amaze me. Interesting story...he told me he had a dream about 2 days before he got his verbal orders.  He dreamed he got a squadron that he had never heard of, one of his buddies got Bahrain, and the other got assigned to a ship.  He told one of his buddies the next day about the dream.  The next day they all got their verbal orders, and they were assigned EXACTLY as he had dreamed it, including him being assigned to a squadron that he had never heard of before.

@ Lydia-my son also said that most likely they probably got verbal orders because originally they were supposed to be done at the end of December, but then their expected completion date got moved back a month.  He said normally the rescue swimmers that graduate out of their school house don't know this far ahead of time where they will be going. Don't know if that is true, that is just what he told me.

  • TexasMomof2

Ladies, see the post above "Lost Motivation...." I know we can all rally for her and her son as we've all been there, right?

  • NavyMom93 (DIV: 823)

Lydia...No, I just make cakes for the family. We found the copter at Wal-Mart. It looked more like a Coast Guard one but it was the best we could do.

Well, my son is back where he should be and believe it or not, it was easier to let him go this time. Of course I sent him back with an iPhone so we could use the iMessage feature. It was nice to be able to tell him goodnight :)

    Warm Hugs to all.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

    Good morning sunshines!!!!!

NavyMom93 - well, that is very kewl!  Yea, I think they love coming home but going back to their brotherhood is also so important to them..  Its their family also.  I heard their is a skype kinda feature on the Iphones... that is not what it is called but my son got it and is able to see and talk to those who have the Iphone and that feature... just like skype right there on their phones...  I gotta get me one cause rarely will he skype on the puter cause they never have internet it seems...  so Imma save up my money and go get one soon

TexasMom....  thank you for pointing that out to us... Im so bad about forgetting to check the discussion forums...

CaliMom ... yes that makes sense... B said that he wont know for a couple of more weeks once they get close to graduation..  which he thinks will be mid January..  kewl dream your boy had!  wooow!  Is he happy with the assignment?  Is it east coast or west coast or out of country - MY B is hoping for base in San Diego...  so we shall see..  once upon a time a few months ago he wanted Baharain then Guam and now SD hahaha ....   so God knows where HE wants him to be so we will see!

ochaos....  awesome.. he will love SD ...  my son has fallen in love with that place and will hate to say good bye if he has too.

  • westcoastmom

Hi everybody! I am an "old" mom that went away for awhile and now I am back! Just wanted to say hi! My son is AWR3 and graduated FRAC (Romeo) in Jacksonville Fl in Oct. 2011. There were only four graduates! Graduation was SO awesome. He got his orders for a new squadron out of North Island..the Blue Hawks. SOOOoo excited! He and a buddy are leaving Florida Jan 31st to drive across the US to their new Squad. Looking forward to getting to know all of you again! Hi lydia and Texas mom of 2!!! Some familiar names!!

  • roxanne

westcoastmom, Where is North Island? US? I know one in NZ. Hope you can say, my son is Romeo- 8 wks left then FRAC.  Sounds exciting no matter where it is.  I will look it up.

Calimom, Very cool story about your son's dream.

Lydia, Glad B is enjoying SD, T said it is awesome.

  • westcoastmom

yes.., ..B.H.!!! How did you know? B.H. is out flying today..solo now which is so exciting.

Roxanne- North Island is Coronado, San Diego!! We are so excited because we live about an hour from there.FRAC is sooooo long for Romeo..is your son on the east coast or west?

  • roxanne

westcoastmom, Still in P'cola in A school for Romeo, about half was through.  My son was in Coronado for 3 months he loved it there.  He would like to go back, we will see what he gets.  I know FRAC is long, about 11 months, one of the instructors told my husband. Lots of learning.  Glad your son will be closer to home.

  • westcoastmom

ahhhh thanks. My son was on the east coast for all his training except for 2wks of SERE..... it has really been a challange but so rewarding. Jacksonville has been great for him! My husband and I visited several times.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

    Good morning!1

Hi Westcoastmom!!!  Great to see you again!

Hi AIRR!  Sounds like the guys are really getting on in this pipeline and now squadrons..  Blue Hawks - North Island is where B is but of course he is Sierra so he wont be attached to that Squad but Im sure all the guys know each other.  So AIRR and westcoastmom's boys are both in the same squad???  kewl

Well, B took one of his two last flights and is so close to graduation now that it makes me nervous!  I just hope they dont send him to Baharain now that Iran is being so nasty (nastier than usual)  that makes me nervous..  Oh well, we shall see.

roxanne - I heard it is very technical and lots of learning for sure!

  • westcoastmom

AIRR mom 86 is your son T.K.?  Did you mean M.P. instead of A.P.?

  • westcoastmom

lydia...waited till my son was out of the training pipeline before signing up again...lol Master Chief and I had a pic taken together at graduation....lol

  • westcoastmom

ann...ok CW yes my son knows your son...and I know who A.P. is too.... :)

Yes it is unusual after being trained on the east coast to be assigned to a west coast squadron. My sons heart is on the west coast for sure (for family AND the better surf...the Atlantic is a lake!!)

  • westcoastmom

AIRR mom sorry I made a mistake that my son know YOUR son C.W. and A.P. lol sorry! They were in Pcola together.... lol

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Its a small world isnt it!

A Belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to Everyone.

I haven't been on the site in a few weeks. My husband had been ill... and passed away just before Christmas. My sailor got to come home, which was grand, but certainly not under the circumstances. Just now trying to cope with the loss of husband and departure of son. Some days it's hard to smile.

Sailor is still at jax in training. No idea of a grad date yet, but at least he is still stateside and available by phone.

Sad birthday tomorrow without my men around. :(

  • westcoastmom

karsonsmama...so sorry to hear about your loss. Sometimes life is so harsh and seems so cruel. I hope you do something special for your birthday to lift your spirits. Wishing you health and strength to carry on...like your son! God bless you fellow Navy mom!

Those who sons are leaving for SERE....tough weeks....I have been there. Please be careful what you say on here or on any other social website. "They" are always checking and watching....just a reminder. If you have further questions about that, send me a private message. May God bless your sailors and give them strength.

  • sweetpea4

karsonmama, prayers are being said for you and your family so sorry for your loss!!

  • roxanne

Karsonsmama, Praying for you and your family. That is just so sad.

NavymomGG, Praying for C, and your family.  I can't imagine what you are going through.  He will perservere!

sweetpea4, Praying for you and your son too!

  • jbmom

karsonsmama  I will be praying for extra comfort for you during this difficult time.

  • Andysmom

Karsons mama. I am so sorry for you. My heart goes out to you! I hope you have family close by to help you get through these tough days. Sending you a hug!

  • westcoastmom

NavymomGG they can have their phone during the classroom training and then when they are in the field there is NO CONTACT until they are on the bus home or back on base... so no phones.. :(

  • KarsonsMama

Thank you all for the prayers and good thoughts. It's just nice to know that we are all praying for each other and can support each other with this site. Comforting to know that this site is here for all of us. :)

  • sweetpea4

KarsonsMama, you got it! God Bless!

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Karsonsmama-I am so sorry to hear of your loss.  Hugs to you!

NavymomGG & Sweatpea-strength to you and good luck to your sailors.  SERE was a defining time for my son; he learned alot.

Hooyah! My son passed his final flight.  He still has to do his water jumps, but he says those are not graded jumps.  So all the stuff he has to be graded on is over.  In essence, he is a rescue swimmer.

  • roxanne

    Calimom, Congrats to your son.

NavymomGG and sweetpea, praying for your sons!

Karsonsmom, You are so right, we are blessed to have this site and each other!  HUGS

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Karsonsmama -  sorry Ive been out of touch here as I was in Florida with my kids over the holidays..   Im sorry for your loss...  I too lost my husband when he was 42 to cancer and raised my three children alone.  I know what you are going through..  It will get better in time I promise!  Im glad you can talk to your son at least that is a good thing!  Prayers for your inner healing sister!

    sweatpea...  been thinking of you

Calimom..  awesome whoop whoop for the boy!  B already did those jumps and loved them hahah...  but he still has the last two that he is waiting for them to schedule for him...  I want to go to his graduation and suprise him but I dont even know where to start or if I can afford it..

So good to see everyone here...  this site is buzzing once again

For those with boys in SERE... not to worry... they come out fine and with great insite and outlook...  and respect..  its a great program.. they get done and bus out on Thursdays.. so you might get a call from a pooped Sailor that afternoon.  Yes we must all remember to watch what we say on any of these sites..  "They" are watching and so are terrorists...  anyone can look in..  Good reminder Westcoastmom!

Well, Im glad to be home and see everyone here...  it is such a great support site for sure!  What a roller coaster.. and we though Boot Camp was bad hahaha

  • momof5~(1CorpMen1Undesignated)

My son just signed off of being a AIRR, he was told it would be months before class would start :( SOOOOO disapointed for him and other sailors just getting there...

  • Andysmom

Not too happy. My son's roommate in PNS left for Cal. and stole my son's jeans I bought him for Christmas. He went to the doctor yesterday and his wrist is healed. Starts therapy Wed. He's looking forward to FRAC/SERE!

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Andysmom-glad your son is ready to resume training.  Is here doing SERE/FRS on the east coast or west coast?  Could the theft of the jeans been inadvertant?  If not, I guess your son's roommate missed the "integrity" part of the Navy speech.

My son got his written orders yesterday, and he has to report to his duty station by March 5th and he is requesting leave for the middle of Feb.  The plan is to fly my husband back to Norfolk, and they both will drive here to California and we will babysit his truck while he is at his assigned duty station.  So I guess I get to see my sailor again real soon and for a couple of weeks.  Looking forward to that.

  • ochaos

Being in pensacola is the ultimate hurry up and wait scenario.  They have t wait for so long sometimes, that they get tired and bored and frustrated.  The best thing they can do is volunteer or go to the gym or learn something new, workout, etc.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

NavyWife...  my boy called me in the afternoon after lunch time..  they hopped the bus and ate and ate and ate...  hahah... so really it could be anytime..  just as usual keep your cell close at hand!  Dont we know that now!!!!  hahaha

CaliMom - wooooow how awesome that he is movin on... but scarey too..  you know what I mean... not scarey but just seems like the roller coaster is moving too fast..  Glad you will be able to see him thats GREAT!  Im still waiting to hear from my B as to his graduation and where he will be stationed... I have a feeling that this news is coming shortly..  cant say Im excited but in a way I suppose I am for him anyway!  For me I just want him to stay my little boy for ever...  Now I see the man in him coming to fruition..

HOLD times are hard but it is a great opportunity for them to beef back up what they lose in Boot Camp...  my son said he was actually thankful for the wait times so that he could mentally and physically prepare for what was ahead..

Andys.... geepers!!!  I too hope that it was an accident although I do know that theft is a problem with some..  Awesome that your Sailor is healing and moving on ahead!!!

momof5.....  what do you mean exactly signed off if being AIRR??  Im confused a little...  did he drop his rate ???

  • Andysmom

(I feel SO bad for this family!)
  • Andysmom

Cali, His orders were to go to SanDiego before they found out his wrist was broke. Now he'll have to get new orders once he gets cleared.

As far as the jeans go, he had to dig through my son's stuff to find them. SAD!

  • roxanne

Andysmom, That is so sad, I will be praying for the family and his friends.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Oh dear me...  this breaks my heart...   when my son was in... a boy slipped at the pool side and fell and well...  anyway...  I dont want to think about it... so what I think is that this young man passed doing what he loved....  that is what I chose to think....  and be it 18 or 88....  were I to pass doing something I love then Ill consider my life was blessed... uggggggggg... okay you know Im crying of course... just trying to think of something to say...  =0(

godspeed to Andysmoms boy....  hey seriously... right place right time... right reason.... he will be where he is suppose to be..  that is where we want our Sailors!!!!   HUGS.. sorry about the jeans   =0(

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Good Friday the 13th morning...  Hope everyone has a GREAT day full of smiles!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

sweetpea...  so proud for you and him that he is moving onward and upward... very exciting and sad all at the same time!  This I know!!  Im waiting any day now for B to get his orders...   HUGS to you sister..  what a roller coaster ride you have made it through!  We mommies deserve ribbons hahahahahaha!!!!!

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Sweetpea-Yumm...gumbo.  I love gumbo, but no one else in my family does, so I don't get it real often.  Sounds like your son will be getting to California just in time for the rain. Well hanging around in great weather is not what they are there for anyway, right?

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

CaliMom - I dont know if I can make my sons graduation as it is suppose to be like next week but they are not telling them for certain.. but If by a miracle I could..  what are the hotels near or on the North Island base???  Do you happen to know?

  • westcoastmom

Lydia.... you could stay at our house! But I am sure its too far away from the base.. its an hours drive.... :(

I hope you get to be there!!!!

  • sweetpea4

Congats to your Son Lydia, I hope you get to attend. God Bless to all! Special prayers to those with heavy hearts!!!!!!

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Lydia-unfortunately I don't have any infor for you.  I live about 7 or 8 hours from San Diego, so no close enough to know which hotels are close.  Sorry.  Sure hope you get to go to graduation.
