Good luck to everyone in the coming week!

My parents and a sister are in Wichita, Kansas and it was a crazy weather week for them. All is ok at their house thank goodness.

My husband and I got to see Act of Valor last night with our son. I really thought it was well done, and was so moving and realistic. The Romeo and Sierra platform Helo's both made appearances in the movie. SO PROUD of our sons and daughters!!! But when the SWCC teams came in I was speechless!! THEY ARE AWESOME!!!! Love me some Navy SEALS!!!!

Lydia, thinking of you and your husband. How is he actually feeling?

  • westcoastmom

NavywifeApril, congrats on your husband graduating A-school!

  • mom2four

Good Sunday Morning ladies (and gents)!  Starting FRS this week... hoping this LONNNGGGG school goes ok.

Wishing everyone else a great week!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

mom2four.....   AWESOME - hey he will be steller!!!  no worries!

westcoast....  It was indeed a fabulous movie...  represented all the Specs/Ops !!!  I cried of course and actually my hubby did too.. at one particular sceen that Im sure you know....   ummmmm... huggy is okay... its just a hurry up and wait game...  we have been here and done it sooo many times before... he stays busy to occupy his time and thoughts...  he is missing one half of his face already from this.. and he is worried about it being on the other side this time...  but he is alive and we are happy about that....  thank you for asking sista!!!!

Tam - RIGHT ---   SUPER and Natural!!!!

  • Leslie CR

Roxanne and Lydia, thanks so much!  I'm excited for him and am at the same time nervous (as a mom) because his life has changed SO much since last July...which was just six weeks after he graduated HS.  He's doing really well and I have a lot of faith in his decisions.  It's nice having other moms and wives around who I'm sure know just how I feel!  :)

  • April

    Thanks everyone :)

Roxanne...My husbands class had 13 RSS grads and 5 fixed wing grads in his A school class.  So it was a pretty big class.  A lot of people actually came to the graduation.  It was short and sweet.

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Leslie, I will soon be in the same position you were in last July. My son is still in HS and is scheduled to leave for bc in July. At the monthly meetings he attends to do the physical tests (swimming etc) he is always the youngest one there by several years. It worried me that he would be taking on more that he could handle (although he doesn't worry at all) so it's nice to see someone else with a son that started that young and is doing well. I have learned alot from the mothers on this site whose sons are so much farther down the line than my son is and I appreciate everyone letting me "listen in" until my son finally begins his journey. Thanks all.

    Jodi-Josh Mom,
Best advise is too stay focused and determined! Hang on for the ride, one of the hardest things as a Mom is to let go, they have to find their own way. We are here to listen and lean on each other it's a difficult path. Not all make it, but they are all very special men and women and are to be commended on their efforts and they willingness to serve! May God bless!
  • Leslie CR

    Jodi-Josh's Mom,

The one thing that helped me keep my sanity :) during this last year has been support from the other family members.  Between this site and the FB site (U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command-at Great Lakes) there have been so many wonderful people who have given me advice and listened to my worrying.  I don't know what I would have done without all of the support.  And try not to worry too much...these guys are a lot stronger and more determined than we expect!  I won't lie, I still cry sometimes and I'm sure that won't change...but now I don't just cry because I worry, I cry because I'm so proud!!!  :)

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

JodiJosh....  Welcome sista!!!   Oh I remember My son (who is now finished with the Rescue Swimmer Pipeline and attached to his Sierra Helo squad) signining up for Navy in November the year before he graduated HS in the next May...  then off to BC in July   PIR 09-02-2010....  I felt as though I was caught up in a whirlwind...  I could not get the winds to just stop for one moment while could catch my breath...  but I knew..  he knew ... that it was the right thing for him and I agreed and trusted...he also was one of the younger... but his scores were high and his determindation was steller....  It was a rollercoast for the next year and 3/4..  I cried, sweated, worried....  paced...  made my self sick...  BUT I found amazing sisters right here in the RSS group and my PIR group...  and no one else out in the civilian or family world understood..  you cant understand unless you have a child, husband, wife, bf or gf in the service... so you hang tight... be sure and join your PIR group here on N4M also so you will get to know other moms whose boys/gals will PIR at the same time...  OH AND be sure to go up to the forum area just up above here and read the Path of the Rescue Swimmer... it will answer alot of your questions about that.. and as far as boot camp..  well, we have been here done that so ask away... or just vent or what ever... that is why we all stick together...

    Leslie.....  right on!!

Sweetpea...  yes quite a ride huh!!!  But here we at the end.. and so many just at the beginning....  Glad we are all here together...

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

JoshJoshMom-you are definately not alone, and rest assured other young men just as young as your son have tackled this pipeline.  My son contracted in October of his senior year and left for boot camp 8 weeks after graduation.  Like Lydia's son, my son has recently completed the pipeline and is now attached to his squadron.  Lots of growth happened for my son between first day of boot camp and graduation from FRS and there were lots of opportunities to celebrate his successes with him.  As others have suggested, joining your PIR group will help you connect with other's that have sailors going through the same things your sailor is going through at the same time.  And you always have us here on this group as well to answer questions, support you and pray for you and your sailor.  Welcome!!

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

My son has all the confidence in the world that he can do this so I'm behind him 100%. He really wants to do this. The coordinator in our area that helps train the Seal and Rescue Swimmer recruits wants to have all the guys J trains with to go to bc together so the July date might change. In a way, I look forward to seeing him grow and mature  but then again, he's my "baby" so I'm not looking forward to that empty house. His best friend lives with us and he is trying to get into the Navy too so I'll be going from 2 boys to none in a matter of a few months.  Anyway, thank you for all the words of encouragement, I truly appreciate them.

  • sweetpea4

Jodi-Josh. Mom I can so relate! You will need to get a dog! With my empty nest I found myself with 5 dogs! lol! Don,'t ask me why?
  • sweetpea4

Tam understand completely! Hang on we are all in this together! What ever we go through there is always someone on this group has experienced it!
  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

I already have the dogs lol. We got a puppy last spring and hes now about 90 lbs.!! Also, J has a pug so I will have him too. He sleeps with J but since he snores horribly, he's going to have to learn how to sleep in J's room by himself!

  • sweetpea4

I can understand I have 4 English bulldogs and a lab oh such sweet music at night! lol
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

sweetpea...   they are so cute too..  I saw them on FB...

Jodi....  I know he will be stellar......  and with you behind him all the better....  us moms wives gfs are the best cheerleaders in the world!

Tam....  awesome... that will be soon so you must keep us posted!!!!

Calimom - yes Ill tell ya, if it were not for the friends I made on my PIR group site initially (many of us are still together now) I dont know what Id have done!  And then this site after that....

  • KarsonsMama

Thanks to mom2four and gabbyhat for the best wishes. Still don't know how this will all work out.  Still praying at this point. To come so far and to make it through so much in the Navy AND in our personal lives...to lose now would just be devastating. However, we will survive, no matter what.
And thank you to all for helping put me in touch with Lydia for B.

  • sweetpea4

KarsonsMama, wishing for the best outcome praying hard for you and your Sailor!

  • gabbyhat

KarsonsMama...also praying for all to workout for your boy!! Hang in there!

  • Rtb_Ship_??

Hello ladies--My son is currently in BC, PIR 4/13/12.  He will be in Pensacola for his schools afterwards.  The family wants to vacation near the base this summer--4th of July week.  Hoping to see him some--only one 5 minute call and letter so far.  Would like to stay in a 3 bedroom condo/house with a pool oceanfront/gulf front.  Any suggestions?

  • sweetpea4

Try  Perdio Key close to base, nice beach. Pensacola Beach is a little drive from base.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Rtb....  welcome sooo exciting... hope you go to the PIR amazing times!!   Ummm okay I suggest to you that you go to this site (you might already be on there) and ask robin the admin of that site...  she lives right there in Pcola next to the base and is a WEALTH of knowledge about Pcola...  she will help you for sure!!!     Yea while they are in BC it is soooo frustrating... we call all tell you that here!!!   but it will get better.  I missed all my sons calls except for one...  uggg  so you hang in there...  I hope you are sending him lots of letters...  Im sure you are!  so obviously his Rate is Aircrew Rescue Swimmer....  hey if you have time go up above here to the Forum discussion and read the path of the Rescue Swimmer...  just great stuff for you to know ahead of time!  Congrats and please hang here with us!!!!!  Its a roller coaster....    My boy is finished with his Rescue Swimmmer Pipeline and now with his Squadron but Ill tell you if it were not for these moms here Id have pulled my hair out!!!  hahahaha

  • Rtb_Ship_??

Thanks everyone!  I scoped out time travel to the base and condos and will be staying in Perdido Key.  Glad I picked the right one!  Lydia--I have read the Rescue Swimmer path--very informative, thanks.  I'm sure I will have lots of questions as our journey continues--not a military girl!  Will be looking forward to everyones insight.  Thanks again--Will see y'all after PIR!

  • Rmom

Rtb-we just went for 'A' school graduation in mid Feb. and the best results we got were on the vrbo.com site. Just put in a search for pensacola and it will give you all the options in the area. We stayed out on pensacola beach and while it was a litttle ways from base..I think it was a little under 30 minutes and we were waaayyy down the beach....it was nice for my son to feel like he was really away from base.  All depends on how much time you would be going back and forth to base.  We stayed in a condo that had views of the gulf and the bay.  VRBO (vacation rental by owner) has lots of options listed.

  • Rtb_Ship_??

Rmom-Thanks for the info.  I actually did go through VRBO but decided to stay in Perdido Key --a little cheaper and closer.  Not sure how much time I'll get to see my son?  Hopefully maybe some dinners and possibly July 4th--not sure if they will get a day off for that.  Does anyone know?

  • sweetpea4

Rtb ship 4 DIV 810! Welcome!!  Get involved and stay in the know, being part of the World's greatest Navy and military is a an honor!!! Hooyah!!!! Proud Navy MOM!!! If you  have never been to Pensacola it is beautiful! Enoy your visit and ask questions someone in this group will have the answers!!!!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Rtb -  time off for these guys is undeterminded...  It depends on what Phase they are in...  and if they have duty...  so you will not really know how much time you can spend until just about the time you are there...  Id say by then he will be Phased up but he could also be in NACCS by then...  or even RSS... so just plan to not plan... be flexible...  thats prob the best advice I can give you now....  +0)

  • Rtb_Ship_??

Thanks Lydia.  I figured I wouldn't know till that week/day.  I'm just hoping for at least some dinner time!  That will only be our second time seeing him since he left in February.  First being PIR (which hasn't happened yet), so I'm pretty excited.  You all have been wonderful help on this site.  I'll let you know when my son is officially in Pensacola.  Thanks again.

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

I feel like I am back to those initial weeks of boot camp when I don't have a way to contact my son.  It has only been a week since he left for Guam, but he doesn't appear to be receiving the texts at the new cell phone number he gave us, and I don't know his address yet.  He called us to let us know that he made it OK, but since it was 1 AM here when he called obviously neither my husband or I was awake to talk to him. I am going to have to get used to not alot of contact with him even when we finally get this text situation worked out with him being 18 hour ahead of California time.  Let me tell you, it is very wierd having him be a day ahead of me time wise.  It is hard to find a time to talk when it is not a riduculous hour for one of us to be on the phone.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Cali mom....   ugggggggggggggggg.....  back on that roller coaster again...  Hey..  he has Skype tho right...  a laptop...  so once he get secured perhaps yall can start Skyping as long as his barracks has some sort of internet..   Well, as we know... this too shall pass... soon you will be back in contact and able to send him care packages etc....  Just hang in there sister!!!!   Ill bet he will love Guam... suppose to be so lovely there!

Rtb.....  dont be a stranger sister!!!!  Come anytime

  • sweetpea4

Cali mom feel your pain! Hopefully you will have contact real soon!
