Lydia - I am def not surprised by your writing desires!! You'd be wonderful at it!!

Also, about the Meet N Greet, if you can get there, do so!! So many of my PIR Moms made it and loved it. We were scheduled to be there but had a horrible drive in - flat tire and then a traffic jam caused by a truck on fire!! It took us FOREVER!! But I was determined and we got there in time for PIR and that was all that mattered!! LOL

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Bird...  yes the PIR is the number One....  you bet... BUT if anyone can make the MnG... you wont be dissappoiinted hahahah!!!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Bird... oh goodnes...  funny story now... after the fact right!!  God bless yall,,,, I had have been a basket case over that....

  • Dan

    One point from our experience.

If you have more than four people, and your SR has had a buddy add them to his list. Make sure you know the SR's name that they are added under. We were second in line and saw them make people wait outside if they did not know what SR's name they were listed under.

I believe that they eventually got in, but if they had known it would have went smoother for them.
  • JackFlash

    Jacked.

That's about all I can say about it.  My son did not test today and there is nothing nice I can say about it all, so I think I'll leave it at that.  I'll pop back in when I have something good to report.

    Cheers.

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

JackFlash-sorry that things did not go as planned.  Hopefully you will be back on here soon!

  • JackFlash

Oh, no worries.... Rather than going on about everything that has gone wrong, I'll just wait until I have something good to report!
  • Birdiejr

Jack - Hang in there!! We'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

TeamNavy - Is today your today?? Hooyah to you!!

  • Vitamama

well, so much for worrying about the week he was not looking forward to.  I texted him yesterday as I was miserable in the 100 degree weather, and he was at the beach body boarding.....    SD has its perks.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Jack  after being on here for 2.5 years...  I can tell you that the most constant is wait and change... dont get discouraged... it is part of the process... as parents we get use to it... as Sailors they have to also...  do not be discouraged....  it will happen!!!  IT WILL .... do not stay off here just because you have no news... we all need each other....!!!!!  This is why we are here... not just for bragging rights and the hoooyaaas.....  but for the stress, worry failures, etc...  its easy to post the great stuff...  but we need to hear and pray for our kids who are having the hard times....  that is part of why we are here!!!!  please do not go away...  hang in there with us... we want to know what is up... and we value your input !!!

    HI Cali

    SD rocks for sure...

  • sweetpea4

Jack, Lydia is soo right! It's a roller coaster ride, remain flexible that is the key to not getting discouraged!

  • sweetpea4

Things are forever changing with our Sailors!

  • kkrHoosier

My son starts his A school on Monday - he said 18 weeks - does that sound about right?  Getting information from him is like pulling teeth - what do they study/learn during this time?  I'm happy the next phase is beginning.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

kkrH - yes exactly right...if he is Romeo... Sierra is a bit shorter...  hahah... they will never disclose that...  B said oh we learned oceans, currents, moons, sun, ships helos etc...  thats about all I got...  after they get to their Squad then that is where the rubber meets the road..  or the ocean meets the wings hahahaha

Sweetpea is sooooooo right... hurry up and wait and when you think you get it ........  you dont!!  =)   pour another glass of wine... and breath!!!!

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Ladies, I have a question. On one of the blogs it was mentioned that 800 divisions remain at GL after bootcamp. I thought that J would head for Pensacola right after graduation but the way it read on the blog he could remain at GL for up to 4 weeks. Maybe that only applied to certain rates in the SpecOps but I figured you would know whether he would stay at GL or head for Pensacola.

  • Birdiejr

Jodi - They may have been referring to those in pre-BUD/s. Those sailors remain in GL until joining a BUD/s class in SD.

  • JackFlash

Team Navy-- how did you do? We're you able to test? We're gearing up for another go at it on Monday.
  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Birdiejr, thanks, I wasn't sure.  I was geared up for him to go to Pensacola and it was a surprise when I read that.  I'm still waiting for that first letter. Moms in other divisions were starting to get their letters yesterday so I'm hoping to get something today. The girlfriend will be home to check her mail so I'm hoping to get a text that she got hers today. I've got my fingers crossed. I just want to know how he's doing.

  • teamnavy

Hey JackFlash!  (yes I'm a Navy GF and sister x2!) thanks for everyones support!!  My PST had to be rescheduled since it thundered and lightning-ed as soon as we were about to get in the pool!! :( so it's now scheduled for next Wednesday the 25th...my 24th birthday...hooyah.  Oh well, gives me another week to prepare even more!  They told me a couple days ago I'm the top female spec war recruit in VA!

  • JackFlash

That's awesome! I'm excited for you---- and Happy Birthday (almost). Mine is the 26th, but I don't "celebrate" them anymore ha ha. Hey, who knows? Maybe you will end up at Boot Camp at the same time as my son. That would be a trip. He's been training for a couple of months now and is itching for a chance to PST. Good luck to you, Sweetie.
  • CaliMom (Maryann)

teamnavy-your ranking is awesome...you must want this BAD!! Good luck to you, but with the training you are doing sounds like you got it half way licked already.

Jodi-as you have been reading, he could stay for a bit, or he could be sent to p'cola before the weekend is out.  Flexibility is the name of the game.  My sailor shipped out to p'cola the Wednesday after grad, but alot of other sailors experience was that they were grad n'go.

Got a text from my sailor, sounded like he had a pretty exciting day recently...he got to fly around with the secretary of defense, then was primary when a medevac call came in, so he finally got his turn to go out do his "rescue" thing for real.

  • Birdiejr

Cali - That's awesome!! What a memory for your sailor!!

TeamNavy - You're awesome!! You'll do great!! It would be so cool if you ended up w Jack's son at BC.

Jack - Good to hear y'all are back on the schedule. Hang in there!!

    Have a great weekend, everyone!!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Jodi...  I echo CaliMom.. and as we have mentioned...  the 800s are Spec Ops and Forces...  my experiences are that the RSS went Grand and Go the next day to Pcola.. but rememeber not all 800s are RSS..  you have Divers, Buds, SWCCK...  sooo  I can only attest to RSS.. they seem to Grad and Go..  Now my gf son was SWCCk and he stayed a nother several weeks.. in fact we hung out the next day that my boy with her her hubby and her SWCCK boy,,,,  so tht is why 800s go different directions at different times...  the RSS boys seem by in large to Grad and Go..  still plan for anything.. you never know

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

** we hung out the next day in Chicago with them and their boy...  sorry

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Thanks, Lydia and Birdiejr for the info. I knew one of you would be able to answer my questions. I've told other moms on the Ship 4/Div. 818 discussion forum to come over here and check this site out. I haven't seen any yet but I'm sure they be coming over soon.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Jodi....  hey sis... we are all in this together...  we all have questions... and believe me even tho my boy is done with all this... it is not over!! hahahah....  we are all here to share info... talk about stuff and hash things out...  so anything anytime... we are all here... and if we dont know the answer we will try to figure it all out...

Ill tell ya.... Ive never known more amazing parents wives even husbands than right here on this site... been here for two plus years...  I dont know what Id do with out all yall!!!!!!  Yall are my Rock.....  =)

  • Ry'smom Ship04Div818

Hi.... so I have read that the previous 800 group has their PIR next weekend, will 818 most likely do similar to 817 in terms of when they leave for Pcola?

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Ry.smom - Hi there..  Well, it depends on what rate of Spec Ops or Forces he or she are.  I can only say what my son and some other PIR group have said and that is that the Rescue Swimmers seem to go Grad and Go the next day but my gf boy was SWCCK and he stayed all weekend and even for several weeks after that in GL on hold.  Some Buds also stayed ....  but like mentioned here below...  you just never know.  They can do just a bout anything so just be prepared for that.  Some are booking their hotel rooms through Saturday night and leaving on Sunday Just in case.  I did that too and even tho my boy did leave early the next morning after PIR along with all the Rescue Swimmers...  we enjoyed that whole day at the airport with him and then the next day we toured Chicago with my gf and her family and her son.  So best to prepare for anything...  Welcome here sista...  and do go up to the discussion forum and read on Path of the Rescue Swimmer I think it will answer alot of questions you might have.....!   =)   Is your Recruit a male or female?

  • JackFlash

Ihave a quick question. My son was able to chat a bit with a couple of his fellow PSTers, and was told that one them was the top Buds candidate in the nation, and another was seventh. I was surprised that there was a national ranking system like this, but it seems possible that they do tell you where you stack up in the draft process?

After thinking about it a moment, I also wondered-- Well if they are ranked that nigh, why aren't they on their way to Boot Camp and Buds, contracts in hand? I asked my son and he thought that they were still "negotiating" their contracts. Are there things that you can negotiate? That need negotiating?
  • GMom

That would be me. Blue Eyes!
  • kev323

No, but what type of phony signatures?

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

jack-yes there are things that you can negotiate, but also before you sign your contract, you may have paperwork you have to produce. For my son, he is an eagle scout which allowed him to go into boot camp as an E3.  Without that, he would have been an E1.  Amount of college units taken can also bump a recruit up, so there is some paperwork to get through sometimes before the contract can be signed.

  • teamnavy

Jackflash- I'm going in as an e-3 too since I went to college, but that's not factored in to your "ranking". My spec war recruiter just explained this all to me the other day and how the draft works. The next one will be the first of August, so that's why we're pst-ing now. The selection is not done by a person, our scores our put in to the computer and it picks from the top scores submitted. For our ranking, that just depends on our times and reps from our PST. You'll never really know because a lot of guys will claim they're the top in the nation (I've heard it from a couple I train with too, so some are just full of it). Unless their recruiter directly let's them know thei ranking...they're making it up haha. Also, scores are submitted (if they're good enough) whenever someone PST's so they also change all the time.
  • teamnavy

Also, no one leaves immediately because there has to be room at boot camp, a spot for them in the program, etc etc ..we're on the Navy's time and it's still all a "job interview" until we officially pass all our training
  • Birdiejr

Interesting info Jack and TeamNavy. I'm just thinking to myself I wonder how the instructors feel about this "ranking" system since they love to harp on anything they can on the spec ops candidates (well anyone for that matter). Just a thought, but you know what I mean? If the #1 BUD/s candidate gets to BUD/s wouldn't you think they are gonna try to make him DOR just to break him?  It's all about team and there's no 'i'' in team.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

HI all the NEWBIES  yea.... so awesome to see you all here.....  please go up to the forum discussion area (I know I know - i say this all the time hahah) and read the Path of the Swimmer and Phases etc...  lots of great info up there!!!!  very great to have yall here!!!!!!  Blue Eyes - Gmom  Dan.....Rysmom

ummmm   Jack - I second Cali...  in Spec Forces Im told that as there are so few slots .. they are ranked.... based on ASVAB scores and PT and etc - High School, College etc etc ...  now who is telling the truth .. well, who knows...  but there is a lot of competition for that Rate right now.

Dan - huh?????  sorry I must have missed your question about uniforms and inspections...

Birdieir.and Jack..  yea.. I wouldnt be bragging to loud on that either hahahahah - My son won the Honormen Award during Rescue Swimmer School first kid in 3.5 years to get it in RSS and although that gave him a lot of recognition a kewl knife at RSS graduation  etc.....  it also gave him hell in SERE...  so Id be keeping the rank thing quiet if I were a new Sailor...  =)

teamnavy - how are you doing??  woow we are so proud of you!

  • Ry'smom Ship04Div818

Lydia -  Thanks for the reply, my recruit is my son..  I am doing the same thing booked the flight to arrive Thurs AM and leave out of OHare on Monday afternoon. It will be a mini vacation for my son's gf and sister and I.  And I work in Public School so Tues its back to work Jet-lag and all..  lol ..  I am west coast!  I hope I get to meet some of you at PIR!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Rysmom....  awesome and a great idea...  cause you just dont know...  so being prepared and also flexible...  GREAT idea..  I have finally found that out after 2 years of this..  hahahah    hey great vaca too!!!!

Finally my boy in SD Cali ...  got internet... we skyped last night... have not seen him since December...  I ws sooo depressed (as yall know and can relate) just seeing him made such a difference...    soon he will get the wings and then deploy..  I miss the day of Boot Camp and Pcola I have to admit but he is on his way now and I could not be more proud....

  • JackFlash

Ding Ding Ding!!!!  He got to test today!  I haven't had a chance to talk to him yet-- he just finished and is on the way home-- but I did get the text that said he did well and exceeded all the standards.  I'm happy for him.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

    Jack..... whoooooooooooooyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa  buddy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jack Flash congrats, Lydia so glad you were able to visit via  skpe I know that made you feel much better!

  • Birdiejr

Hooyah - Jack & Lydia!! I know you're both beaming!!

Daughter update: Dr on Thursday to discuss lab results and where to go fr here. She's one semester fr graduating college so we've just gotta push thru. Still keeping the faith!!

Hugs to all!! Know you and your loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers!!!

  • JackFlash

    Yes-- thank you all.

He got a fist bump from the Recruiter because he scored "Elevated" in every PST category.  Tomorrow he goes back to MEPS for some sort of psychological test (the C Test???) to complete his "kit" and to enter his PST scores for the next draft.  With a bit of luck, maybe he will get a contract offer and ???

I'm assuming that with the contract comes a "ship date" for Boot Camp-- and until that date he goes into DEP?

I know-- I use a lot of question marks in the things I post.  Learning as we go.

  • CaliMom (Maryann)

Jack-that is so great about your son's performance. You must be so pleased.

  • Ry'smom Ship04Div818

that's interesting if they do have a ranking system, because when my son did all of his PST's he was told the faster they would enter the swim time is 6.0 even when he always swam well under that, they said they don't record anything under that? I am sure that all the SR cares about is that he's in whatever it is he really wants to do....

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Bird....  praying for resolution for you daughter!!!!!!

HUGS to all....  running like a chicken with her head cut off this week...  got TONS of care packages to ship (American Legion Rider!)    Love you all!!

  • Birdiejr

Jack - No worries. We all had and still have questions now and then. That's what we have Lydia for. Heehee!!  Let us know what happens at MEPS.

  • sweetpea4

    Jack,

Do  not accept a no when failing a medical. My Son had issues with the eye exam and Made the Navy send him off base!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This issue was address 2 different times.  He was fine!!!!!!.

  • JackFlash

The test he took today was pretty much just like the one he already took at MEPs. Just a standard written test, he was told was required for Special Operations. He says they are "weird" in that sometimes there seems to be no right (good) answer and/ or no wrong answer. Sometimes you have to choose between what seems to be the lessor of two evils, for example. Who likes their head examined???

Didn't seem like much of a big deal, but just another box that needed checking off, on his recruitment "kit." the next draft is actually Aug 9th and every two weeks after that. He has to co tiniest trying to improve his PST scores every week until they offer a contract, then we will learn more of Boot Camp ship dates.
