  • Shawn Ship 04 Div 822

My son's long wait is almost over.  He finally got cleared to go to Pensacola.  Of course, this totally messes up his Christmas plans, but that's OK.  Worse case he will end up in Pensacola by himself for the holidays, but he's very excited to get back on the path to a rescue swimmer.  Those first weeks on hold were very hard for him, but I think he really bonded with everyone who stayed on base over Thanksgiving and he's been much more upbeat.  I don't think he will get to go through training with the rest of the 822 division that is already in Florida.  All he asked for Christmas was warm clothes to get him through the Chicago winter--and now he's heading for Florida.  Time to re-think his Christmas presents!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Shawn that is GREAT.  He might still be able to go home.  When does he transfer to Pcola?  The base goes on Stand down and they really try to get most of the kids leave..  he will have to buy his ticket of course.  Perhaps the day he gets in he needs to hit up his Command and ask.  On the other hand they do it by computer and it might be too late.  I know that the USO there on the base will have Christmas stuff going on Im sure.  So he wont be totally alone.  It is located somewhere near the NEX

    KKr - GREAT !!!!  whoohooo

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Wendy....   well, all I DO know is that the first 5 days of SERE they have com the last week they do not..  they usually finish on a Thursday and can call home at that point...  so perhaps that might be the confusion dunno??  I know he will be fine tho..  tough stuff but they come out pumped...  please let us know..  prob just mis communication..

  • WendyJ

Thanks Lydia - my son finished SERE and is coming home for Christmas, there is a lot of excitement at our house anticipating his arrival.  There was some confusion with the phone call and all worked out.  I can breath a sigh of relief knowing he's okay.

    Merry Christmas Everyone!

  • Vitamama

Congrats to so many of  you and your sailors!  We are on the way to Midway to pick our sailor man up for the holidays. Praying that he will be able to stay in SD and not go to JAX in the spring.  So excited and a very blessed mama.  Doing the happy dance!!  Merry Christmas to all!

  • Vitamama

Midway as in Chicago, not Hawaii ( wouldn't that be nice)

  • sweetpea4

    BJShipo4  Congrats!

  • kkrHoosier

Glad this is over and my son is home for Christmas!

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Congrats kkrHoosier on your son's accomplishments. Merry Christmas everyone.

  • MyLAS (My Lips are SEALed)

I am new here.  My son will be coming to Pensacola in January.  He would like to have his car.  What do we need to do to get things in order to get his car to him when he gets liberty?

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Hi everyone!!!   Man I have been MIA - Im in FL with all my family - Sailor was here but now back to SD...  Im still here tho!  My son gave me a duplicate of his beloved gold wings with his name engraved onthe back to me for Christmas....  how kewl is that!  haha - what a great guy he is!  I miss him so much already!

Sounds like yall have enjoyed your Sailors too and they are all moving onward and upward....  awesome!!!

MyLAS....  He will need to Phase up before he can really use it anyway.. so what he will need to do is ask command what they recommend...  Go up to the Path of the Rescue Swimmer and Phases and Liberty....up in the discussion forum (if you have not already) and it will help you a lot...  It wont be a problem getting it to him.  Have him check on the regulations.. Congrats to him and we are here for you.  !!!1

BJ - sooo, you should check with your boy to see if perhaps he might know MyLAS boy...  they sound like they will hit Pccola about the same time..  VERY awesome... so glad he is now going to be on his way to his goal!

    kkrH.....   AWESOME photo!!!!!!!

Well, it has been quiet in here because we have all been enjoying our families for the holidays!!!!   HUGS to all my dear friends here....

  • Shawn Ship 04 Div 822

He's finally in Florida--yay!  He is absolutely loving it.  Of course, he hasn't actually had to start doing any training yet--just playing over New Years.  He is rooming with his two best friends from being on hold in Great Lakes (not sure if they were good friends in Boot Camp or not) and glad to be meeting back up with Div 822.  I loved having him home and feel so much better that he didn't have to return to Chicago but got to move on to Pensacola.  Doesn't it feel great, BJ?

  • MyLAS (My Lips are SEALed)

will my sailor be doing any stenciling in Pensacola?  Should I send fabric markers?

  • MyLAS (My Lips are SEALed)

Any idea when the next class starts up?

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

MyLas....  yes he will and no you dont ...  they provide the ink tht they need hahaha... too funny tho that you should ask    The hold times are long and hard...  but as long as he uses his time wisely in prep for the PT and swimming  he will be good.

Shawn...  encourage him to take advan of his hold times...  he will need to beef up his PT times 100 to pass RSS...  soo excited for yall and them!!!!  Please keep us posted here!!!!    NACCS will be first...  they love it!!!  RSS not so much...  80 percent attrition rate....  they Must be serious and ready... so even tho they might have hold time... its a blessing in disguise...  time to work up!!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

man its quiet in here... but this happens every year after the holiday!!!  love yall

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Hi, Lydia, I see you made it through the holidays. I hope you had a great holiday season. I sent my sailor back to Pensacola on Saturday night, sigh!!!  It sure is quiet at home even though we really didn't see him too much. Too many people to see and too little time. He hopes to class up for "A" school tomorrow but they have been told that before only to have it fall through. I've got my fingers crossed that it goes through this time. I think we are both ready for the next stage of his schooling to start.

  • Ry'smom Ship04Div818

Hi everyone....  after bootcamp grad 8/31/2012....  and having a med-down month for a stress fracture following...  then being on back-log awaiting the next class for RSS...  my sailor has been re-classed and is now BMSA...  I have enjoyed being acquainted and reading news here, but now I guess I will say good-bye.. I am so glad for the "team player" attitude my son displays and looking forward to his new adventure, wherever it may lead him...  He was home from Pensacola for 2 weeks at Christmas and is back there now. Signed his new contract yesterday and says they may by-pass the A school (26 days) and he may go directly to the fleet...   I am hoping that involves the west coast of course...  but now will be researching this new area of Boatswain Mate Seaman good luck to everyone...  hopefully he will still get to do some swimming!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Hi everyone!!!!!   I have missed you all!!!!!  It has been quick quiet in here I see...  I was in FL with my kids (including sailor) for a month!!!  Then a cruise last week...  now back in the saddle.....

Rysmom....  congrats to you and him on his new journey!!

Jodi....I know what you mean... my Bman hung all day with me and sister and then at night, hung with his buddies.. I dont think he slept much the whole 2 weeks but sure was awesome hanging out wth him!!

So okay....  MomofDan;  jmh8642..  Jesses Mom with Jodi and Johun and rnte  sup??   teamnavy..  how you doing!??   shawnship  and BJ;  lets see ummmmm   USNavyRetired;  jajaio;  BJSHIP;  WendyJ;  KKrH;  LanneH;  JackFlash;  Birdier;  Leslie CR;  Vitamama and Rox and MamaB;  JodiJosh;  avasmooch;  Tmom;  Ochaos;  Ann1;  Navymom GG;  bsmom; mom2four;  Navywife;  AIRR and Westcoastmom.....  gosh so many I cant remember all...  but how are all yall.................  time to muster for the new year!!!!!!!!!

    Anyway.....  Happy New Year....  !!!!!

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Good Morning, Lydia, J has finished the AWAT class and started on the AWR classes as of yesterday ( I think-he said the class yesterday was just telling them what they will be learning so I hope that was day 1 of the class haha). I'm glad this next chapter has started. He sent me some really awesome pictures of the sunset down in Pensacola.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

HI Jodi!  GREAT and I know yall are ready for him to move on..  its such a LONG pipeline and then with all the holds it can be sooo frustrating!  Just remind him to keep PT and swimming like crazy!!  Running the beach like crazy also...  so next will be NACCS for him then... they seem to love that!  RSS not so much hahaha...

  • ochaos

Just checking in as it has been awhile.  My son is still in SD should be getting new orders soon, it is so hard when they are expecting them but not sure when it will happen.  He loved doing his jumps and being in the air.

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Lydia, J has already been through NACCS and RSS (I think-isn't that first and then RSS?).  He started his "A" school classes after Christmas break. His next class is  supposed to be 4-1/2 months long.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Jodi - oh sorry... thats right and yes!!  Did you tell me he is Romeo???  Well, the great thing is that the HARDEST part is over..  he will do stellar now... finish A school, then SERE and then just lots of training and assignment to his helo squadron!!!  And of course those wings eventually!

Travelsalot....  welcome here!!!   So your Sailor is done with NACCS and RSS???  and is on hold for A school?  The hold times differ but Im sure it wont be tooooo long...  hold for NACCS and RSS seem to me to be the longer ones..  Did you go up and read the Path of the Rescue Swimmer etc...  good info up there....  please let us know...   There are two different A schools... one for Romeo and one for Sierra...  has he been assigned to one of them yet?

ochaos.. great to hear from you!!!!   I understand ... same with my son.  They told them deploy Spring 2013 now saying late summer...  well, I hope it will be later than sooner hahahah!!!!

Ann1 ..  great to hear from you toooo!  He is on his way now!  AWESOME!!!  He will graduate and get assigned to a squadron..  from that point he will just continue on in his training...  he will eventually finish that and get his wings then deploy...  or not.... who knows hahahaha

Sorry to forget some of yalls details...  I try to remember but the mind is only working on full thrusters some of the time hahaha....  I think being a Navy mom has helped me LOSE it!!!  hehehehe

  • Travelsalot

Okay,,,, Im confused... let me start over.... Way back at square one...I read everything on the group page.... My son is coming over and will be starting from the beginning...What would that be and does anyone have any idea when that starts..I know he will be headed to Pensacola... Sorry....
  • Mama~D Ship 4 Div 822

Travelsalot, it is a confusing long road so get used to the feeling, this site is amazing though.  My son graduated BC in October, was on a hold till right before Christmas leave, and is graduating from "Aircrew School"today, that will be the first school they attend and then there will be another hold till he starts "RSS" that is Rescue Swimmer School, and from what I understand this is a crazy nerve racking journey through RSS, cause no matter how old they get and how much of an adult they are they are still our little ones and we feel every step on the way with them.  I hope that helps.  And once they get to Pensacola there are a lot of candidates that have been there for a while that can help him learn the ropes as well.  And the great part is we have communication with them now!  Yay!!

  • dbristol

There are a number of students on hold there, so there really isn't a definate date to start. My son graduated boot camp in October. He was on hold until right after Christmas leave. He started "aircrew school" that next week. He has 2 more weeks of that and then be on hold again till he starts RSS. It is a long journey and is very confusing for us parents. All you can do is let them know you are there to support them every step of the way.

  • Shawn Ship 04 Div 822

Does anyone know if "aircrew school" and NACCS are the same thing?  My son is waiting to class up for NACCS.  He arrived to Pensacola after Christmas and loves it.  He's so glad to be able to see his friends from Div 822.

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Yes, Lydia, J is going Romeo. One of the fathers posted their RSS graduation ceremony on YouTube which was nice since we didn't attend the ceremony. He seems to be adjusting well to "A" school. I'm just glad that he's moving down the pipeline again.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

    HI YALL!

Travelsalot...    Aircrew School really is NACCS (Naval Aircrew Candidate School)  now once he is in Pcola..  he will go on hold for the first school which is NACCS - a school that the guys usually really love and make it through with no problems...  then they go on hold for RSS...  (on hold Starboard D - a flight pattern that helo squads perform above the fleet..  a holding pattern - hence the name Starboard D)  the hold time will differ and there is no rhyme nor reason except that the Rescue Swimmer Rate is very very full...  so there are more kids than classes..  hence the hold times..  however these times as many of us moms can tell you can be used to their advantage...  they need to PT there butts off and run, swim like crazy.   Good time to get their physical and mental in check!  It can make the difference of a pass or fail..  The attrition rate for RSS it VERY VERY high..  so focus and building up their swimming skill is paramount if they hope to pass.  After the pass RSS they will be assigned one of the two Aircrew Rescue Swimmer A schools...   Sierra or Romeo (see above Path for details on each one)  from there when they pass A school, they will be assigned to a base for further training..  (ex.  my son is Sierra...  he was assigned to SD Cali for SERE and then more training and then his permanent duty station and squadron)  The entire pipeline took him two years...  from BC to wings...   Again, they have more than enough kids on hold..  that is why the long hold times (can be up to a couple of months)  ...  sooooo  hang in there and just encourage him to work on his mental and physical..  it is NOT a walk in the park like Boot Camp..  NOW something we dont like to address is ...  if they fail RSS they will go before a board and the board will decided if they are allowed to roll back in to a new class for a second chance.  If they do and fail again, they will go into the fleet as un-designated (Navy will put them where Navy wants them)  I have known many moms whose Sailors had this happen and at first its not fun but all of their sailors right now are happy and doing well.  BUT we will pray this information will not be needed...  still I hate to not address it.  Sooo  as dbristol said....  just keep on encouraging him / her all the way!!  They will have many days of downs.. some of ups and that is when they will need your MAMMA HOOOORAAAAH you can do this!!!!

Ann1 - awesome!  he will be getting his wings before you know it..  seems to take forever!  well, if he grads in summer..  then it will prob be a while before his squadron deploys but really it is all about the needs of the Navy and his squadrons specialty...  It will all depend on what they give him at graduation as a perm duty station.  My son got his request which was SD...  but it depends on how high up in your sailors class he/ she passes as to whether or not they will get first choice and also it depends on what pops at the time..  (where the need is the most at the time)  The first top three of my sons class did get their choices..  but the rest were sent where needed..  (Guam and Japan mostly but that is Sierra it will be different for Romeo as they tend to attach to ships in the fleet)

Jodi - awesome!!!!  I was unable to attend my sons RSS but a Navy Mom from our 818 Div went for me and she video taped it and much to my Suprise...   my son won the Honormen award!!!!!!   First Sailor in 3.5 years to win it and they got it on tape for me.....  needless to say I Cried my eyes out!!!  Love our fellow Navy moms and dads!!!!!!!!

Shawn - Aircrew School  Naval Aircrew Candidate School  (NACCS)  first school they go through...  =)

dbristol..  praying he will do awesome!  Long road ahead of him but Im sure he will do great!!!!!

MamaD - I wonder if your boy and dbristol boy know each other...  they seem close in the pipeline?

Hope all of this helps yall!!!!!!  xoxoxox

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Travels... you are entirely welcome... believe me, there are a number of us OLD PLANKs in here that can help you all we can...  If we dont have the answer we will try to find it for you.....    Its called Pay It Forward (a movie i recommend EVERYONE to rent and watch!)   xoxox.....  holler out anytime and be sure and keep us posted!!!!!!!!!

  • teamnavy

Thanks for remembering me Lydia! :) I'm no longer "team" Navy..we broke up over the holidays...he couldn't handle the fact that I'll be spec war and he's stuck in the regular Navy ...to say the least, but I'll leave it at that, I'm better off and not being held back anymore.

Training is going well now that I'm back on track and crazy focused!  They have us PSTing with the SEAL prep school exit test now (only difference is the swim is 1000m with fins and the run is 4mi) so that can only help us and I've been kiling it!  I've been tracking my training for Under Armour and they're flying me out to Florida with a couple others right before boot camp to train at the IMG Traning Academy in Florida at the beginning of March.

OH, ALSO, I was interviewed yesterday and am in the Washington Post today!! Females are finally allowed in combat and I couldnt be more honored to be quoted!  (I'm at the bottom of the article..I'm Joy)

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/pentagon-to-m...

53 days to boot camp!!! Glad everyone's sons are doing well!  I love following all their progress on here an thank you for your support! :)

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

teamnavy... woooooow.... well, as long as you are happy !!!!  Awesome.... go girl!!!! hoooooyaaaaa!   Keep us posted!  Ill check out the article!   Go girl Go!

  • Travelsalot

http://usmilitary.about.com/od/navytrng/a/naccs.htm?r=et. I found some info on NACCS School...
  • ochaos

For those of you that have someone in Pcola on hold, tel them to work out and to hang out with those that have a positive attitude as it is so easy to get caught up in the whining about the wait times, use the time to train and stay in shape, work out, volunteer.  It is hard to wait for what seems like forever for something to happen but it will and the better the attitude the better it is in the long run.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Travelsalot....  yes and there are many many many You Tubes also on Rescue Swimmers, Swimmer School etc....  they are well worth the new moms watching~! thank you for that link!!!!!    NACCS they all seem to love that school...  RSS....  NOT!  hahahaha

  • Shawn Ship 04 Div 822

M called real quick just to let us know that he classed up and will be starting class tomorrow.  I'm assuming that is NACCS or Aircrew School.  I'm excited for him and I know he's happy to get back headed on his journey to becoming a rescue swimmer.  Anyone else have someone starting NACCS tomorrow?

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

ShawnShip ...  awesome....  how is he doing??  NACCS if the first school...  Rss is after it.... so today is Thursday... how is he doing???????   Most of the kids LOVE NACCS!!!!   Usually they start on a Thursday... weird... but they do!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

WOOOOOOOOOOOOW it is way tooooo quiet in here.... whats up with that..??  I know we have kids in NACCS, RSS and on hold.... some in A school some SERE some FRS.....  some done and attaching to squadrons....  WHERE ARE YALL  Im lonely in here by myself!!!!!!!    My boy is out on the Boxer doing pre deploy training....

    Shawn......  how is your boy?

  • Mama B

Ok ok it has totally been forever since i've posted but i do read your comments from time to time. Well lets see, my son is at the very tale end of FRAC and he has yet to jump from the Helo. Seems like every time they tell him he'll be jumping/hoisted something gets in the way. Besides being discouraged over that, he too is loving Navy life. He is set to graduate on March 22. Heard a new squadron is opening up in a very tropical location this April so fingers crossed. He and Roxy's son are still roomies so thats been nice.
Hope you are all doing well!
  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

AIRR - woooooow just think 260 Sailors   ahhhhh  heaven!  What is your menu for those hungry kids  hahaha    so kewl that he is moving right along!!!!  keep us posted!  Dont be a stranger!!!!!

MamaB - woooooow march 22 is like just right here almost!!!!  I pray he gets the squadron he wants!!!!   Dont be a stranger!!!!!!!!

  • Shawn Ship 04 Div 822

M is doing well.  He's in NACCS and enjoying it.  He sent me this pic to show what he does (playing Ruzzle) while working out.

  • Jodi-alumni Ship 4

Great picture! Isn't it amazing how clean those rooms are? Unfortunately I found it doesn't necessarily continue when they come home on break,(though he wasn't as bad as before he went to bc).  My son and some of his friends did a 15k run last Saturday. I was going to post the picture of the group of them but, being a klutz when it comes to electronics, etc. I can't figure out how to get it off of my phone lol.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Shawn hahahahaha awesomeness!!!!  Yes they all seem to love NACCS - but RSS will be super hard challenging...  remind him to keep his body and head in the game!!!!  Im sure he has heard that anyway!!!   hoooraaaaa

jodi... NO IT DOES NOT  hahahahaha     awe I wish you had a pix ....  well, dont look at me ... Im totally stupid with technology!!!  hahahaha  I know how to get if off my camera... phone   NO
