  • sweetpea4

Ochaos, congrats big changes in your life! Three young men in the Navy that is fantastic!

  • aster

mama B ~ congratulations to your sailor and to you! I'm sure you are both bursting with pride! This is truly awesome!

  • Mama B

Thank you for the kind words Ladies, so glad I had all of you to share the news with. So glad some of you are finding comfort from your precious pets. 1 cat and 1 dog for me. Their love is so unconditional. Well I will try to stay more in touch and be less of a stranger.
One side note, my son proposed to his girlfriend last week and they want to get a place together off base. SD is sooo expensive i wish i could talk him out of it. Anyone else's son living off base?
  • sweetpea4

My Son is married and lives off base in San Diego! 2 incomes they are doing very nicely!

  • sweetpea4

    Oh yeah mamab! God Bless!
  • sweetpea4

MamaB. Mission Valley the mirage apartments 20 min to north island. Close to the Chargers stadium. South county near the border is a shady area.

  • Mama B

Thanks a bunch for the info!! Coming from another Momma, i trust your judgement. He said he actually knows another RSS guy who lives there.
  • sweetpea4

Mama B this is a nice apartment complex

  • ochaos

My son lives off base in SD, they like the complex where they live as there are several other military families there as well.

  • ochaos

sweetpea -two of my sons are Navy and the other is Air Force, needless to say they give each other grief about which branch is best.

  • ochaos

It is odd because my first, third and fifth child are military, every other one, go figure.

  • sweetpea4

Ochaos5 i am sure your househhold gets kinda crazy with the different services represented!LOL

  • Mama B

Ochaos- would love to hear any recomendations you have as well about the complex where your son is.

Lydia, Gezz I hate to hear that did this happen today/!! May God Bless them and their families!!!

  • ochaos

With 6 kids my house is always busy, it has slowed some as they have moved out or joined the military but I am still the house where a lot of them visit and hang out or get help with college stuff, etc.

The apartment complex my son and his wife are living in is Summer Brook.

  • Mama B

Thanks Ladies for your help in apt. hunting, they think they've found a place. But sure do appreciate the help! My husband and I are heading out that way in two wks for his Graduation ceremony. Has anyone been to that one (after FRAC)? We were able to go to the one in P-cola after RSS, and were glad we could even though it was pretty quick. Its been a blessing having my husband work in the airline industry!
We still need to keep our boys in Afghanistan in our prays, tensions are flaring up again : ( .
  • sweetpea4

Mama B yes, i went to the graduation ceremony glad I did not miss it. It was very special and my Son was Top Honor Student!!!

  • Mama B

Sweetpea- wow Top Honors, you must have been so proud!!

  • ochaos

Vitamama - my son graduates this Friday as well in SD, will you be there for it? If not i will make sure to get lots of pictures for you.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

HI everyone!!!  Just poping in to has Hi!!!!

Kewl for Ochaso and Vitamama - wouldnt it be great if you two families could get together!!  I was not able to attend the FRS grad but my sons pastor and wife are good friends of mine and a bunch from his youth group and the Pastor and wife attended and I got great pictures and it looked very kewl!!!  The CO even shook hands with Pastor Steve and thanked him for supporting the Navy kids so much..  lots of the kids go to Pastor Steve's church.. its board shorts and Navy kids mostly hahahaha!  Very casual but very very active in the community..

MamaB - glad they found a place

My son is on a training mission right now..  10 from his Squadron were chosen by the SEALs to do "Something" somewhere......  ????   So anxiously awaiting his return !!!!!  In a week...

  • sweetpea4

Praying for the safety of all. God Bless the crew in Wa!!

  • GMom

G is halfway through SERE and SD got an earthquake yesterday!  It wasn't a big one, (but his first!)  I can't wait until this two week wait to hear from him is over.  Pins and needles!

  • Vitamama

Thanks Lydia. That is great that the CO took time to thank Pastor Steve. I've told others about that church.   I am so bummed because I wanted to come out for graduation and also to see my "grandbelles" but we will come when he gets written orders,  Luckily SD is our home town so there will be friends there to cheer him on too.

Ochaso, Yahoo!   I will welcome any pictures or video clips for sure and trust your Navy mama heart to take in the specialness of the time for me too!  Where will your son be going?

  • chopsmom

We were in SD yesterday and didn't feel a thing.  We were at the Maritime Museum and then up on Point Loma.  Back home in Ohio as of about an hour ago.  :-(  Saw a lot of Seahawks take off and land, watched a lot of ships move in and out of the harbor.  It was a great trip.  The best part was seeing my ATAN and hearing about what he does.

  • chopsmom

AZOKmom, they are in my son's squadron!  He told us about a detachment having to stay in Thailand longer than necessary.  Chops was his "name" on his college flight team.

  • ochaos

So excited I get to meet Vitamama tomorrow!!

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Wooooooooow -  okay so I been MIA a little but AZOK and Chops and Gmom....  welcome...  sorry if I missed yall????.....  i dont recall seeing you here before but then the mind is a terrible thing to loose hahahahah....  But welcome!!!!!  so awesome that Chops and Azokmom have kids in the same squadron!  Very kewl

ochaos...  today you get to meet a fellow RSS site N4M !!!  I cant wait to hear all about it!!!!!!!!!

BMom....  he will do stellar I promise...  they come out of SERE with a great different attitude it seems!

Still waiting to hear from our RSS kids...  so many were on hold from NACCS but not a word here in quite a while?????

xoxoxoxox    Son is back from his training deploy...  what ever it was he said it was intense...  he is happy!

  • Vitamama

Wow!  What an incredible day in San Diego. And it was highlighted by getting to meet my new N4M's friend ochaos. I met her son in the parking lot and he already knew that the moms were excited!! We got to talk a bit in the refreshment time and I got to meet her mom and daughter.  I say a shout out to this Navy mom because she has another who goes to boot camp soon. Mom of THREE in the service.  You rock, sista!!!

Before the graduation he was able to take us to the helo and show us what he does. The ceremony was outside with one of the San Diego skylines in the backdrop across the channel. The officers were so gracious and made it truly a time for these men and their families and friends, encouraging us to get up and take pictures when our sons were receiving their certificate.  And then afterwards more pictures.  We had a lot of our friends come who have been part of his life in some way and they were impressed as well.  Then we enjoyed some good Mexican cuisine on the island, and were joined by the other men who are going to VA as well from the squadron.

I got my  airline ticket the day before and it was worth every penny. ( used Priceline and a good deal)  My mama heart kept saying that I had to go. I will say that any mom whose son/daughter is in the RSS program should have a fund for such things. DO NOT MISS graduation. Find a way. Have a garage sale. Sell something but go.  And take pictures of the ones who didn't have any family there and take them out.

Isn't it nice that pictures  are digital?  I would spend too much on film and developing....  :)

  • ochaos

Vitamama is a hoot! We had such a great day at graduation today it was awesome! It was so nice to meet her and to be there and it was so funny that my son met her first, go figure!!  We drove down last night and I told my son that I would be getting to meet one of the moms of one of the guys in his class and told him the name, then when he was waiting for me to meet him in the parking lot he meets her first.

The weather was wonderful, the view outstanding, and the speaker funny - just an awesome day. My son took us to see the helicopters and a tour around the base. Will be heading to GL at the end of April for my youngest son's PIR and I am hoping I may get to help drive my son that graduated today to his new base soon.

When you get the chance to meet others on this site in person do it as they are amazing people! So glad I got to meet Vitamama today. Too bad our sons are going to different bases.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Congrats ladies!!!  so happy yall got to hook up!!!  AWESOMEness

  • divefamily

Our son has PIR on 3/29/13 at Great Lakes.  Can anyone tell me where he will go for special schools before A camp in Pensacola, Florida??  Will we have any time with him after graduation?

  • ochaos

Her will fly out on either Sat or sunday depending on flights and goes straight to pensacola. You should have time with him on Friday after graduation and time with him depending on his flight but he will not know until the week of PIR usually. What some parents do is fly out late Sunday home that way they can sit with their recruit at the airport before they fly out, if he flies out Sat then you have a day to sight see the area and if he flies out sunday which some do then you have time with them as well.  One of the best things to learn now is to not put anything in pen just pencil because it can and does change. The main thing about PIR is to enjoy the time you have with them.

  • Travelsalot

My goodness....Anyone have any idea when the next AIRR school/class/training will begin?
  • Mama B

Ochaos and Vitamama - you girls got me so excited about graduation!! I leave this Thur. as my son's graduation which is Friday. Wish we could have all met at the same time. How many Graduates were there last week?
So funny how budget cuts are affecting them - "Mom they took away our cable and stopped giving us toilett paper! The apartment he found is right next to your son Ochaos (Bella Posta) he's very excited to move in this weekend.
  • Vitamama

Even though we have lots of friends in SD, we stayed at the navy lodge  a couple nights and it is right on the private beach.  Highly recommended.

  • chopsmom

We just returned from SD - a wonderful break from Ohio weather.  We stayed at the Bay Club Marina and Hotel on Shelter Island --right across from the control tower on North island!  Six glorious days with our son.

  • Travelsalot

I guess no one knows anything about the next AIRR class.
  • Mama B

Vitamama- yes the Navy Lodge is surprisingly beautiful. However surviving the included breakfast is somewhat of a nightmare. This time we will take care of breakfast on our own!
Travelsalot- most of our boys are past that phase, its usually about 2wks after his previous class however i really don't think theres much ryhme or reason to when the next class starts. Hang in there!
  • Travelsalot

Thank you Mama B..... I dont think he has had his first class yet... Holding pattern I guess.... Ill hang on..
  • Vitamama

Mama B. Haha...the 'breakfast' at the lodge. So right on that one!  I just grabbed some OJ and mixed up my Shaklee protein shake in the room.  Just flew back home today...too bad we didn't overlap and get to see you.  Congrats to J.

  • Lydia (For B - The Sea is Ours)

Travelsalot.... soo  sorry honey...  no one knows... there is no set schedule... the Sailors never know until the last minute.. there fore WE never know...  it is the way it is....  he will start off with NACCS..then go on Starboard D (hold) for t RSS but let me say this......  no political view intended... but I understand that with the NEW govt cut backs..  everything is changing...  classes will prob have longer hold times even now...  i wish we had this answer for you... but even when my son was in the early on pipeline...  he did not know until a few days before that he had classed up for NACCS and then also for RSS...  all last minute...  it is frustrating trust me I rememeber ugggggggg!!!!  Just remind him as we all say...  use the time wisely... beef up those scores...

    Hi everyone!!!!  xoxoxoxoxox

  • Vitamama

It's great when we hear his voice on the phone saying that he got his written orders and a date that he has to be in Norfolk. Moms, we have such an incredible group of sailors, don't we! Does anyone out there know what level of communication we will have once they are out at sea?  Lydia, is there a previous posting about what we can expect or navy life after the pipeline?

  • Vitamama

Oh, one more thing.  When we were out celebrating their graduation, we 'applauded' them with  a round of dollar bills( all amounts)  making a helicopter rotor sound.  Take a crisp dollar bill, and hold one end in each hand. Put slack in it then pull it out, over and over.  Of course, we gave him the bills, but it was a fun way to 'applaud'.  Just try it and you will see what I  mean.  Just passing the idea along to ya!

  • ochaos

Mama B - too bad my son is getting ready to leave for his next base and packing up or we might have been able to meet.  Although since I am only about 5-6 hours away I f I know you are going to be out for a visit I might be able to get away to head to SD for a visit.

  • Travelsalot

Thanks Lydia.... I guess he has only been waiting 6 weeks.. (only),,, He signed up for 6 years so I guess as long as he is getting a pay check , keeps training and is not getting in to trouble, he will be ok..... thanks again...
  • dbristol

BJ Ship 04 Div 822 - Unfortunately my son started RSS Monday, but was one of the 12 cut Monday also. So back into hold again. He was sooooo disappointed. It is so hard to be so far away because there is nothing we can do to make him feel better.

Tavelsalot - My son has been down there since November. He was on hold for about 5 weeks before starting aircrew. And as I said he just started RSS Monday, but since he was also cut Monday he is back on hold. It is so frustrating, but what can you do. All you can do is support them as best as you can.

  • Travelsalot

oh no (dbristol)..Why in the world would they take these young men, get their hopes up and then cut 12 and sent them back to wait....? I dont get it...

Did your son say why they sent 12 back? Maybe they took too many? Or your son and the other 12 will be with the next group....Maybe our sons will be together in the next group...was your son in a previously in a spec ops rate?
