Does anyone else have a loved one on the USS Maryland?
  • ❤ ℐℯnnifℯr ❤

hey! hope everyone is well. we are good getting used to the Guam still and also getting used to the boat but we still love it..
  • Elle

Attention please Never ever use BBG Communications (Luxemburg) while traveling internationally this company is a rip off... more importantly don't use your debit/credit card to pay for it they charge like $50 a minute!! I'm not kidding on top of that they charge you several times even if you made one call. This company is found at airport on pay phones.
  • RaeEli

Okay, so my husband got his orders today. We are going to be headed to Bangor, Wa. I can't believe it, we are from SC. I don't even know where to start! We would like to live off base if possible, any suggestions? Also, we had Kings Bay as our first pick but this will due (ha has to). Any WA wives? Is it nice? Do you enjoy Bangor? I'm going to miss super hot weather but o well!
  • Babyryin (Mandy)

Little help with question/info on the USS Maryland (SSBN-738)_ Blue Crew.

We just got our orders to report 10/31/11!

Anyone there I can talk to?

  • NavyWifeTrivette

My husband is stationed in Kings Bay, assigned to the USS Georgia blue crew. Any other wives in Kings Bay, or who's husbands are on the Georgia?
  • Erica&AJ

My boyfriend is on the USS Montpelier...there are a few out of his shop on the Newport News if i'm not mistaken.
  • Zahi Merz

Hey there!!! I have a question for the Groton wives... I'm going crazy looking for a hair dresser here in town or even in New London, any suggestions?
  • NavyWifeTrivette

I will be in Kings Bay in a week! Can't wait to be with my hubby again! Any other wives down there?
  • BearyBlueNavyWife!

Navychick5690 my husband will be on the blue crew on the USS Maryland!
  • My sailor's ladybug (356)

My boyfriend just arrived at Groton for A school. Still new to this Navy thing. Just trying ti figure out different things like if and when we should get married and when should the boys and I move there. Still unsure of alot of things. Thank you for any info and help.
  • BearyBlueNavyWife!

How long will he be here in Groton!? We have been here since April and my husband is about to finish his A school and we will be moving to Kings Bay GA! I would really get married before he even gets close to get his orders so they will pay for your big move to his station place! I will try to help any I can!
  • My sailor's ladybug (356)

I'm unsure he just got there Saturday. I would like to get married soon. We have been together for seven years and we have a child together. I am in GA right now that is where we are from.

  • BearyBlueNavyWife!

I will be there on the 22nd of Nov! LOL! Everyone that doesn't get married in time has a lot of problems when moving time comes! If you plan on getting married anyways I would at least do a quick little wedding till you can have your bigger one later on! We moved here on our own and will be here almost 8 months but will not get paid back because we didn't get the truck weight when we moved! We have been together as long as you both and have 2 girls ages 3 and 4! If you are still there when we get there we should have a play date!
  • My sailor's ladybug (356)

I have a seven year old from someone else. That is what we were planing, but you know that you really can't plan much with the Navy. Things change all the time. What rate is your husband? My boyfriend is MM-Sub I think is what it is called.

  • NavyWifeTrivette

Speaking from experience, I would do the same thing and get married way before he has his orders. My husband and I got married while he was on leave between sub school and his duty station. Because he already had his orders when we got married, the Navy refused to pay for me to move and and it was such a hassle for everything. It is definitely easier and better to get married before hand to make it less stressful on both of you in the long run. Good luck and I hope everything works out no matter which you choose.
  • MamaMiri (FT)

I agree with the others...we were already married when my husband enlisted so that part was easy, but it would probably make sense to get married after BESS (Basic Enlisted Submarine School). They kind of frown on the guys doing anything before they finish BESS but after that it should be simpler. And also even if you don't move to be together until after he finishes A-school (which I think for MM's they don't pay for a move to Groton because the school isn't long enough, but the bright side is you won't be waiting for long, whereas my husband is FT so when he graduates he will have been here a year (almost a year for us, we joined him 2 months after he got here).) Also after you get married he will start getting BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing) to cover your rent/housing expenses while he lives in the barracks. If you get married before he starts the MM A school you should have plenty of time before he gets his orders.
  • BearyBlueNavyWife!

MamaMiri- Your story sounds a lot like mine! We are here in Groton/New London for my husbands school too and I got here 2 months after he did too! Plus he is about to graduate too! Where are you off to for your 1st duty station and when!?
  • MamaMiri (FT)

He doesn't have orders yet- should get their picks before Christmas from the sounds of it. He graduates and we will be off wherever we're going in February. We have our fingers crossed for Bangor!
  • BearyBlueNavyWife!

Well we are going to Kings Bay so if you end up there instead let me know! :-)
  • ❤ ℐℯnnifℯr ❤

wow haven't been here in a long time glad to see it still going.. and welcome to  all the new members... my name is jen been a navy wife for 7 almost 8 yrs currently stationed in guam where my hubs is on the uss buffalo :).. see a lot of wives are in kingsbay hope you like it we liked it for our first duty station we were also in bangor wa so if any 1 need any info on these areas feel free to ask.. hope everyone is doing well and good luck..
  • Laney (Ship 03 div 005)

Do sailors get holiday leave during BESS?
  • BearyBlueNavyWife!

I've been told no and that they can't go far at all if they do but they are the last to get it so there is like no chance at all.
  • Zahi Merz

Hey everyone, has anyone joined the adopt a sailor program fro the holidays???
  • Ari♥

nop, but how we can help??
  • Zahi Merz

I know here at the Sub base families can sign up as well as sailors and you get to have them in your home for thanksgiving dinner and xmas ... I didn't need to sign up since I feel like I've adopted my husband's friends..LOL.. I have about 6 of them coming over for Thanksgiving..So if you guys can adopt a Sailor.. Lots of them can't make it home for the holidays and its a nice way for us to give something back :)

  • Laney (Ship 03 div 005)

    For anyone living in Groton:

Would it be easy to lvie there without a car? Where I'm at now I can either walk to the grocery store or take a bus but IDK how that works there.

  • MamaMiri (FT)

No. We only have one car between us and that's workable but tough. It's a big hassle to coordinate with my husband's schedule if I need the car. I can walk to base (about 15 minute walk just to the gate, more depending on where on base), the corner gas station, the dolphin mart, and the parks in housing but that's about it. Also the road to base can be a bit on the dark side at night (which is after 4:30ish in the winter) and there is no crosswalk/walk signals at the intersection to the road to the gate so not all that safe. There doesn't appear to be much of a bus system. I save most of what I need to do for when I can have the car, and it's tough in some ways to be stranded at home all the time with a toddler. But we can't afford a second vehicle right now, so I pretty much just suck it up and hope we get to move somewhere with better transportation next year.

  • Laney (Ship 03 div 005)

Wow thanks MamaMiri. That sucks. I don't have a license or a car, so without a bus system or cheap taxi I'd be stranded at home with my baby too.

  • BearyBlueNavyWife!

  • EverAster

I just missed a call from my boyfriend at his first port of call. I'm so bummed.

  • KikiOtter

EverAster- sorry to hear that. :( Did he at least leave a message so you could hear his voice? If so, hope you saved it! I know when hubs was in basic I had a voicemail from him saved so I could listen to it whenever I wanted to hear his voice.

How long has your boyfriend been out to sea?

  • EverAster

He was only gone a couple weeks, and it turns out he was in port for longer than just that day, so we have gotten to talk on the phone, and even skype! :) I have voicemails and voxer messages saved so I can hear his voice while he's underway.

  • KikiOtter

Glad to hear you got to talk! :) My hubs is still in BESS, so I have yet to endure the "fun" of being without any contact for extended time. Used to not seeing him for long times (not our first time, or even second, having a "long-distance relationship"). But can only imagine how hard it can be some days.

We tried the skype thing a time or two since he's been in Groton, but our internet connection where we are is so slow and intermittent that all he sees of us is a badly pixelated pic. :\

  • My sailor's ladybug (356)

Still kinda new to the area. Looking to make some new friends. We have two boys (8 & 2). My husband is on the USS Newport News. Is there any other SO on the same boat?

  • skyler(ship14 DIV 368)

I was wondering if any of you would know if after boot camp when my SR goes to groton will he be able to talk to me daily like in A school or is it like boot camp?

  • ZAM's Mrs-to-be

skyler: after bootcamp, when he gets his phone back, you will be able to talk ehenever he has free time:) my boyfriend is in groton too, so excited to go visit him in a couple of weeks

  • ZAM's Mrs-to-be

Anybody have suggestions for places to eat in Providence? I'm flying into there to visit my boyfriend in A school, and he said the one thing I need to decide is a place to eat when he picks me up from the airport! Any help/ideas are greatly appreciated!

  • MrsCoop

HI, my husband has been fast attack for all his military career so far. However since we have had 2 little ones he is considering switching to Boomer as he heard its better for family life. Can anyone tell me which ports have boomers? i know of georgia and washington do but i was wondering if there was anywhere else?

  • Dagmar (Ship 03 Div 143)

Hi everyone, My boyfriend is currently in boot camp and will be going to sub school afterwards. I was wondering if anyone here had information on being a missile techs wife/ gf that they would be willing to share. I'm very anxious during this time and I am looking for as much information as I can!

  • Kelli_wife of JP

hi everyone, my name is Kelli. we will be relocating to our first duty station (Kings Bay) in June. I'm kind of nervous and excited at the same time. One of my best friends is already down there and I'm looking forward to seeing her again but nervous for our first deployment.

  • ZAM's Mrs-to-be

Mrs. Coop: Yes Kings Bay GA and also Washington state have boomer bases, as well as Norfolk VA I believe.

Dagmar: It's nice to meet you! My fiance is FT, but if you have any general questions about boot camp or sub school I'll be happy to help if I can:)

Kelli: That is super exciting, we will hopefully be joining you down there in August, we should know for sure in a couple of months. If we do I'd love to meet up!

  • Dagmar (Ship 03 Div 143)

Thank you ZAM. What is FT? Im not up with all of the lingo yet although I am trying.

  • ZAM's Mrs-to-be

Dagmar: Fire Control Technician :) and trust me, neither am I!! I learn more every day and know I will REALLY be learning a lot after we get married this summer, LOL.
