Same thing here, jfarm!   My recruit sounds so proud of himself and all of the boys as they very well should be!    I just want to hug every single one of them and tell them all that!

What an amazing bond they have shared!  What an amazing bond we, as their momma share.

Let me know when you get your call!    I look forward to meeting you!

I just want to take a minute to congratulate all you mothers, wives, husbands, family and friends of the 900 division.  I have been there since I experienced my grandson who graduated last March 14th.  Remembering what a thrill it was as I watched him lead the band as they entered the building, walking in front of where I was sitting.. such a thrill for this 70 year old grandmother.   If you can't make it for the graduation, I am really sorry for it is something every parent should be allowed to enjoy.  It would be wonderful if the Gov would someway make arrangements to get the parents there for this great occasion.  If it had not been for my children I would not have been able to go..

They are all going through some training that they would never get anywhere else and when they are finished, they are so proud.... they made it.  We have to be proud too...which we all are.

Many of you will be spending Christmas without them... I know a little bit about how you feel for I have 3 grandchildren in service at this time and only one is going to be home for Christmas.  One is deployed and will be back next week but they would not approve a leave for him to come home...just not enough time.  They will miss you all too like crazy... but remember there in boot camp they do not give them a lot of time to think about things that are not actually going on with them that second etc.  But I am sure they will have something special to help brighten up their day on Christmas etc.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.  You go ahead and try to enjoy your day as much as possible.  If you have other kids, make the best of it with them.  He or she would want you to enjoy this time even if they are not with you.   Now let me suggest one other thing.  When you are going up to see y our sailor graduate, there are many that their parents or friends do not make it... What I would suggest is let your son or daughter choose one of these sailors to join you in something special that you are planning on doing, dinner, to Chicago to take in the city, The Pier does not cost anything just to go there... it is great.  The sailors get in the Aquarium for a less amount than others, Also he or she and the group he is with can go to the front of the lines.  This is great... My grandson put me in a wheel chair and rolled me all over the place... he wanted to and they way they did not have to have rest stops etc... it was wonderful.  Visited the highest building, the worlds great sausages, the worlds great Pizza, the Jelly Belly plant (which does not cost anything) really enjoyed the pier but it will be cold in the winter months.  We were there in March and it was ok.  We also went over to the Lake Michigan beach which was on base.. there are a number of things to see on base that will not cost you anything.. it is not exactly where they are at but like next door or across the road to the other part of the base etc.. But enjoy, enjoy.  These times are great...  I WISH YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS... CELEBRATING THE BIRTH OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST... Love and hugs to you all, Arlene Murrell

  • arlene40

Meant to tell you, would love to have any of you that would like to join me on facebook.  I am Arlene Robinson Murrell  my email address is arlenemurrell@att.net.  I would love to have you join me.  I have lots of Navy friends and we all share the same experiences... I have one grandson in the Coast Guards and it is just great to keep up with others that are going through the same things.  I try to keep everyone lifted up... God see's our hurts, our emptiness because of sailors are not here with us... but then it is so honorable that they have chose to protect our great country... GO NAVY TO NATIONAL GUARDS soon will be saying GO MARINES, oh and my husband served in the GO ARMY, and my brother GO AIR FORCE,  and my all  the branches if I have missed any... WE HONOR THEM ALL....

  • Dodie

Hi All, In the spirit of "Loose lips sink ships", it is not a good idea to post last names on N4Ms. It's far too easy for not-so-friendlies to see your information. Moms in my son's PIR group exchanged personal info (email, last name, etc) by private message.

  • Christine(ship02 Div909)

Dee- OMG....I'm so sorry that your son is going through that.  That LPO should definately be reported. What is sad, is that because of this "jerk", your son doesn't know if he want's to continue doing what he loved to do. I hope your son doesn't allow this person to ruin his future. Good Luck! God Bless your son and your family. Stay strong.
  • Gulf Coast Mom

Dee - your nuke son must report the LPOs behavior.  My son is a nuke stationed on a sub. Although he was not involved (thank God) because of an "integrity" issue three officers and 7 enlisted were taken off the sub AND the captain was relieved of his duty b/c supposedly he was not aware of what was going on.  The Navy takes treatment issues very seriously.  BTW my son was also in the 900 division (925) in boot camp.  When did your nuke son graduate prototype? My son grad Dec. 09.  Please join the "nuke moms" group or do a friend request to me.  Thanks and good luck to your son.
  • Gulf Coast Mom

Dee - one more thing.  The 18 - 20 hr days is pretty common, at least until they earn their dolphins.  But - verbal and physical abuse by the LPO definitely needs to be reported.
  • CrazyNavyMom(NukeET-GC,SC)

hello all.  I received word that my son is ship 2/div 915.  i started a thread for other mothers in this group.  My son shipped to basic 1/4/11.

my son has no band, choir or rotc experience but was assigned to this unit the second day he was there..  unsure why.  recruiter says it could be the way he handled himself or test scores?  anyway..  i am looking for informaiton on this 900's...and what is the difference in being a 900 or a triple threat???

  • navywife007/ship02div909

my husband is in 909 (he PIRs next week) and he had no experience either band either except for high school band.  so he's a bodysnatcher - picks up fainting recruits.  there's also the color guard who carries the flag and suff.  i THINK the drill team is 900 division too, but i'm not positive.
  • Suzanne-Sailor Mom

Thanks for the info Kathy/Ship2,Div 909!  My son does not have any musical/drill experience or ROTC in school. But he did go to college for 2+ years and did score high on the testing.
  • Suzanne-Sailor Mom

Thanks Kathy!  Did your son like being in the 900's?
  • Bubba's Mom

Hi Kathy....I feel the same way...my son is non performing...selfish me wanted to see him march in for that awh feeling...but he's happy that is all that counts....see you there
  • Deb (FC Mom)

My son is 910 (PIR 01.28.11) and is on the drum line. They will be performing at the 01.14 & 01.21 PIR's also. Since he is musically inclined we were thrilled that he was able to do this. He had a battle with pneumonia & we were holding our breath that he wouldn't be ASMO'd which would have meant loss of performance div spot. Thank God for miracles! he's still on track.
  • Caroline

    Hi Moms

My son is in DIV 916 - anyone else?  He sings well but I don't know for sure if that's why he is in this division.  He's also going into the Nuke program.  I don't know about any of the other divisions but it's nice to know a little something about where he is in this LONG wait to get a letter!

  • Sailormom21811

A group has been started for SH 02  DIV 913.  If this fits your recruit please join us.
  • himmiemom

Hi everyone!!! I am new to this group.  My son is in Ship 02 Div 912.  His PIR is 2/11.  He will be a door holder at the 2/4 PIR and at his PIR on 2/11.
  • Lia (Navy Wife)

New here :) My fiance is in Ship 02 Div 917. He's been at boot camp for a week now, and his PIR is 3/11.
  • Lauradomenica (Ship 02 Div 915)

Hi everyone, my fiance is Ship 02 Div 915, he graduates 3/4. I am so proud of him!
  • Caroline

    Hi Laura and Lia

Welcome!  My son graduates 3/4 and these groups have been a huge help and support!

  • Lauradomenica (Ship 02 Div 915)

Thank you Caroline! I am so happy to have everyone on here through this crazy time! It sure has helped a great deal before and since my fiance left for boot camp
  • TxLadyJane(ET Nuke Mom)

Howdy all, my son is PIR 3-11-11, and he is in Ship 02 Div 917, he is in that division since he was a Trumpet player in H.S.  He said in his letter "hey I'm a band geek" what can I say.  He was also appointed Recruit Education Petty Office, as he used to be a Peer Tutor in H.S. as well, glad someone linked this from the other page.  I am glad to be here, and everyone has been so helpful thus far.  Both my husband and I were active duty, husband retired pilot and me an enlisted person.  We were army so this is a little different.
  • NavyMomX2

My daughter is also Ship 02 Div 917.  She is in the Choir.  She was excited to be part of this division and from the sound of her voice, she is doing well.
  • TxLadyJane(ET Nuke Mom)

That is great NavyMomx2, I actually like the division is co-ed, now I am not too sure his fiancée would say the same thing LOL
  • Caroline

Welcome TxLadyJane and NavyMomx2 and nice to meet you Sandra!  I haven't checked in here in a while (having fun with PIR group!).  I've only met two other Moms from Ship 02 Div 916 but we all have a lot in common.  I can't wait to hear what the 916's are doing!  Any other 916's out there?
  • TxLadyJane(ET Nuke Mom)

Thanks CarolineMom, I am glad I found this place, I told my son about it last night in an email, it has helpped us make some decision about the PIR weekend.
  • Mary Garner

NavyMomx2...........I friended you with a note to explain. Did you see that there is a group for Ship02 Div917?
  • LWEatonNC (AWF Oceana)

I'm another 900 - Ship 02 Division 917, PIR 3/11/11.  Happy to have found you all.
  • Caroline

Hi Moms!  I'm wondering if we - the 900 group Moms - can compare notes a bit and figure out what each division's specialty is.  I'm kind of thinking that if the 900's are a "performing division" then each different 900 division could represent a specific focus i.e., choir in one, door people in another, drill team in yet another?

    Just thinking. . . .:-)

p.s. I don't know what my son is doing yet, thus my interest in this project hahaha

  • WhiteClay Ship 2 Div 913

Our son said when they first got there and were sitting in a room, some guys came in and started asking questions and they were supposed to raise their hands if the question fit. He raised his hand for both "Who has a bachelor's degree?" and "Who scored above 90-something% on ASVAB?"  They came over and asked him "How fast can you run?" and other fitness stuff, then said "Go sit over there." At that point he had no idea what it was all for.  Basically they were trying to hand pick people who seemed like they would be able to handle boot camp AND the extra drilling that a performing division would have. Obviously if a recruit has band, choir or flag experience that would be useful too, since they would be able to handle the performing part.  My father-in-law asked, "What instrument does he play?"  I said, "Tenor sax, but he stopped after middle school! He's in Div 913 because of his scores, college degree and fitness."  LOL  His letters have been positive about the challenges of boot camp as well as the friends he's made. I don't care if he's just a "door opener" at graduation, we are proud of him & can't wait for graduation!  Hope that helps.
  • sherrys (Alumni-Ship 02 Div 911)

Families...for a further description of the 900 divisions, go to this page:
    http://www.navyformoms.com/group/ship02div911

I've posted an explanation I found somewhere else on this site (?)... It may help to answer some of your questions! ;o)

My daughter's PIR is next Friday!!! Can't wait!!! ;o)
  • sherrys (Alumni-Ship 02 Div 911)

From what I understand, my daughter was chosen for div 911 due to her high score on the ASVAB, her prior drill experience, and her musical talent on the flute. She is part of the "Triple Threat" division...drill, choir, band. ;o)
  • Caroline

Wow Sherrys - thanks! - this is great!  My son played trumpet in the school band for several years but not recently, he was a soloist in the HS show choir and his ASVAB score was over 90 so who knows?! :-)
  • TxLadyJane(ET Nuke Mom)

This is so cool to see everyone metion how thier Salior became part of the 900's, but also kinda funny to see us who don't know for one reason or another, why are SR was put in.

It's good to see peoples stories.

  • TxLadyJane(ET Nuke Mom)

proud:  That is cool that your daugter will be singing.  One of my bosses sons is in the Navy and he said that the singing is what brought tears to his eyes during PIR.  Can't wait to hear them!
  • Gulf Coast Mom

Proudnavydad - my son was in the 900 division - choir nearly three years ago.  His PIR group had almost 1000 graduating, but there were only 12 in the choir - 5 guys and 7 gals.  He really enjoyed it - they practiced 4 hours every Saturday morning, plus performed in the two PIRs before theirs (so he could tell us where we needed to be sitting).  It was also easy to pick  him out from the group - just had to look at the group of twelve instead of all the divisions - they all tend to look alike.  Even though the practices were practices - they did get to actually talk to one another - not as structured as the rest of the week.  Hope you are planning on going to the PIR. He was excited - his 900 division won all the flags, including the Captains Cup.
  • TxLadyJane(ET Nuke Mom)

Gulf, yea I plan on going, can't wait to see my son.  Now just got to figure out how we are going to get 4 of us up there, got discouraged today looking at air fares and such.  But it will work out.  I have a head cold so I am trying not to stress right now, I will look again when I feel better LOL, you always have a different outlook then.
  • Caroline

Checking in.  I got my first phone call!!  More on my PIR group...he said he's a "triple threat" and doing flags but is hoping to get to sing - he's a great singer bass baritone :-)
  • TxLadyJane(ET Nuke Mom)

Caroline:  That is just great!!!   What PIR date does your son have?
  • Gulf Coast Mom

TxLadyJane- hang in there!!  I see you on the Nuke moms group.  It is a journey well worth it.  But a little tough on us moms.
  • TxLadyJane(ET Nuke Mom)

Gulf I'm hanging in there, its harder when your sick and feel like crap LOL.  My son's Fiancée got a letter on Thursday, said they started training on the 24th so we are definitely a push division, which is great I think.  he said he might call this weekend to her, so that call will probably go to her.

So these awards that the divisions earn is there more information about this someplace on this site?

  • TxLadyJane(ET Nuke Mom)

    oh ok!  Thanks prouddad
  • TxLadyJane(ET Nuke Mom)

Tampa mine is in ship 02 Division 917
  • Dodie

TampaGTO, Congratulations to your son:) My son was ship 02/div 903 & pir'd 12/3/10. He had absolutely no drill or musical background (I used to say he couldn't carry a tune with a wagon...lol). He said when he got to Great Lakes that all of the recruits were in a room & asked questions about PFA & asvab. He was placed in the 900 div because of his answers. They were looking for recruits that were going to be able to get through BC without much remedial work because they have to do additional 900 div training for PIR ceremonies. He was very proud to be placed in the div. His div did very well...they were awarded Hall of Fame status.

TxLadyJane, He said there were about 30 nukes in his div.

  • LWEatonNC (AWF Oceana)

My SR nephew is Ship 02/Div 917;  he said he got in because of his scores, because he could already swim very well, and (he says) because of his height!  He is the division guidon and seems to be really enjoying all of your kids, too.  He called tonight and said it's cold and they had almost 3 feet of drifting snow and had to stay inside almost two whole days.

He also said 917 is grad and go, which screws up OUR weekend.

  • TNNavymom1

hey guys my daughter is ship 02 div 917 I GOT A CALL ....i am so excited she is doing great playing trumpet for graduation sd snow is higher than her head ran for 224 straight minutes  she loves it
  • Mary Garner

Hey TNNavymom...................I have been wondering if there were more of us on here! Did you know that we have a group for ship02, div917?
  • TNNavymom1

i didnt know thank you i am brand new
  • LWEatonNC (AWF Oceana)

  • Sherri (mom of Kirsten)

My daughter is div 919. She has no music background or NJROTC. Her recruiter thinks it might be cause she already new all her PQS stuff. Waiting on either her phone call or letter to find out whats up.
