Thank you so much for the info Charlotte!!  We are getting so excited.

Kira's mom....I know how proud you must be of her!   How exciting for both of you....
  • Dodie

Kira's mom, Look for the 8/26/11 PIR pics on the RTC facebook page. You may see your daughter there:)
  • Christy

Ladies the band rocked at PIR on 07/15....thanks for making it wounderful.
  • Dodie

Lili, What is your recruit's job in his 900 div? If they are performing (rifle guard, band, choir, drums), you might be able to see pics of him performing at the 2 PIRs prior to his own "pass in review".
  • ProudMama (ship 2 div 937)

I got to see my son's picture in the PIR from today. I was so excited!! He is in the Honor Guard. Loved the picture, I didn't have to guess if it was him, it was a real close up.
  • Charlotte(ship02Div930)

ProudMama....how exciting for you!! My sons PIR was June 10 and I still look at the PIR photos!!
  • Dodie

ProudMama & all, enjoy PIR and time w/your sailors. I thought PIR was awesome. We attended our younger son's Army graduation...the Navy graduation was much nicer. If you're driving to PIR, get there early. The line of cars backs up pretty quickly but once they open the gates, the line moves quickly. We were pleasantly surprised about the div 900 group photo op before PIR. I was able to get a lot of pics:)
  • sheshe866 (SHIP02 DIV944)

my son is in ship2 div 944 explain this 900 stuff
  • Charlotte(ship02Div930)

Kimmie....i received a hand written letter about 2 weeks after my SR left for BC.....but some people who had SRs in BC at the same time did not receive them until later. He may have had watch while the others were allowed to write letters this happened to my SR. They are kept very busy! Hang in there!
  • towermom

My SR has been writing every week so far since they could send out letters.  Keep your head up Kathy - they will be coming - my SR says he loves his Division - says they get to participate in the 2 graduations before his so I am hoping to get a glimpse of him on the FB site!!  What Ship and Division is he in?
  • lisarobin

To all 900 moms. My son just graduated and I am reading your posts and think I need to clairify for you. They get the same amount of time to write letters and calls as everyone else. Calls are earned except for security calls and the calls around 3 weeks in. They can write every Sunday then possibly more often toward the end. My son got terribly sick around the 3 week phone call so I didn't get mine when everyone else did. However, he earned a call a couple of weeks later. :.) The ceremony is wonderful to watch so be proud of all your 900 sons, daughters, spouses etc. :.)
  • HalfOfMyHeart

Towermom- my husband is in 939 and is graduating this Friday. He's in the honor guard and I've seen him in a lot of photos from the past two graduations, I hope you get to as well!!
  • HalfOfMyHeart

Kimmie- does he have a girlfriend or wife who might have gotten a letter first? And this might be the first week he's been able to write, so you'll most likely get one on wednesday or Thursday depending where you live. I didn't get one for quite a while so hang in there!
  • towermom

lisarobin- thank you - congratulations.  I can't wait to see my SR on 9/1/2011.  HalfOfMyHeart - that is great news, I will be looking at the photos hoping to see him.  Congratulaions and have fun Friday!!
  • BonnieRN

Kathy...good to know.  I suspected as much but without knowing for sure I could only speculate.
  • HalfOfMyHeart

Is anyone's Sr performing this Friday? I'll try to take extra photos and maybe you'll be able to spot them :)
  • Terry'saproudmom(Ship02-Div936)

My was in division 936 and letters came fairly regularly once they started.  But only got two calls other than the "I'm Here" and the "I'm a Sailor" calls.  It really does depend on the RDC's.  There were about three or four days that they were not allowed to receive mail....but I believe it was due to something they had done or not done properly at their first graduation...so lots of extra practice.  They are busier than some of the other divisions.  Also when my son was studying for a test he would not write.  There was another division at our PIR who only got to make one call the whole time there other than their beginning and ending calls.  So really EVERYTHING is up to the RDCs.
  • BonnieRN

Halfofmyheart..yeah my daughter is.. That would be awesome. She is in flags of the 50 states group...carrying Colorado flag... Think it is white with a big light blue C in the middle. Safe travels and have a wonderful day with your sailor !
  • towermom

Received a letter yesterday which was a huge surprise.  My SR said the RDC's gave them letter writing privileges on Tuesday 8/2!  He said he is doing great!!
  • dk4ever(2/945)

My husbands in div 02/945 haven't heard much but looking forward to hearing more!

  • Charlotte(ship02Div930)

I'm so sorry Kimmie.....have you been on the Navy Facebook page and asked if others in 944 have received letters? I'm still praying that you will hear soon!
  • Pennie

KimmieM No letter, no phone call for me. :(   hopefully tomorrow.
  • rodeo sailor

Hi, my daughter just had PIR from 938 on 8-5, there was a fifth week 900 division performing flags, and I got a lot of pics, cuz my daughter told me that she carrying a flag during PIR, well silly me, it was her division flag, but I got a whole lot of pics of some SR's that were carrying state flags, cuz they really do all look alike during PIR. Looking at the program, it was 940 on flags, and I also have 938 on band. Is there a place I can upload pics? I know how I felt looking for pics of my daughter.
  • Kira's mom Ship 02 Div 941

Same here. What is going on with that division? Wish they would call or write soon. I agree, it is comforting to know it's the whole division and not just my daughter.
  • towermom

Received 3 more letters today from my SR.  Hope the rest of you get letters - my SR sounds really great!!  They get to write Tuesdays, thursdays and Sundays - so I will be stalking the mail lady a lot more now!! Have a great day everyone.
  • WhiteClay Ship 2 Div 913

they can GET mail every day but Sunday, but I think their letters only go out on Mondays, at least that was our experience. We only got letters each Thursday (we are in PA) unless there was a Federal holiday that week, then they'd come on Friday. Best to figure out "your day" and just look forward to that each week. Also, cherish each letter because once they are out of Boot Camp they probably won't write...just text.. and if you're lucky call once in awhile! It's all good, just changes.
  • MariaM

WhiteClay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!my friend, I ment to call you and I have been working about 6 days a week.

You are correct!!! I get lots of text.....calls not as much...my Sailor is happy and changes are good...I treasure the letters from BC like gold!!!...and once in a while I pull them out and read!!!. His Ceremonial Team has been really busy with the tragic accident of the Navy Seals....

I will call you this weekend , promise!!!

For all my 900 Division Moms.....this is a very special Division...your Sailors will have incredible memories!!! as well as you!!

And....chase the your Post-Man...........!!!! My day was thursday!!!

  • Charlotte(ship02Div930)

I'm so glad you all got letters! A little advice about the call....i wrote down questions I wanted to ask my SR so i would remember once we got on the phone and I could write down the answers to tell his dad and siblings later. Also, when they say they gotta go, they gotta get off the phone! You will hear the RDCs yelling 5 mins etc in the background. I received his first call which was 15 mins then he said they should get another call in 3 weeks but I never got another call until the "i'm a sailor" call 4 days before PIR. Everyones experience is different. He said it kind of stunk when everyone else was getting calls, long call,s and his 900 Division wasnt and they were working so hard. But he was so proud to be Honor Guard and I if he had to do boot all over he would want to do the same thing! You will all be so very proud of your sailors on PIR!
  • MariaM

Charlotte is your Sailor  with the Ceremonial Guard -Washington DC already?

very good advice for the new Moms.........PIR is so emotional!!! and yes you feel very very Proud!!

  • Charlotte(ship02Div930)

MariaM....he only did Honor Guard for boot camp. He is in A school in Pensacola, FL. His rate is IT. He is suppose to graduate Nov. 9 and then....who knows!! His schooling is very intense but he is doing well! Do you have a sailor in the Ceremonial Guard in Washington?
  • MariaM

So glad to hear that!!, Im from Florida, hot but next month will have the beautiful weather!!

My sailor is in the CG in Dc for two years, later...I dont know!!!. Are you going to second Graduation?

  • Charlotte(ship02Div930)

Maria....my son is not enjoying the FL weather so far....we are from AZ where it is very dry! The humidity is killin' him! lol. I am hoping to go and see him within the next 4-5 weeks but not having very good luck with flight times right now. We will not go to his graduation in Nov.....it is just in the classroom and they are handed a certificate....nothing like PIR.....how did your son get picked for CG in DC for 2 years? When did he PIR?
  • Kira's mom Ship 02 Div 941

    Charlotte,

My SR is going to Pensacola for IT.  How does your SR like it? What is their schedule like? I heard that it is pretty intense. Do they get to have a car? What about cellphones? Do they have liberty on the weekends? If I wanted to go visit her would she be able to leave base and spend time with me? Any info you could give me would be great. Thank you

  • MariaM

Charlotte, so sorry, yes the humidity is terrible...after Labor Day its perfect!!! When you come ..will be more to your normal AZ....I know, nothing is like PIR!!!!!When my son "Drill Out" no ceremony for us, they dont know when this happens..untill he calls and saY: "Mom, I drilled Out"!!!

His PIR was Feb. 18th 2011. Ship 02 Division 913. It was so cold!! but so incredible. When he was with the 900 Division they asked him to do the process and he passed it.  Loves the Navy...!!!

Charlotte, dont know much  about flights out there!! I live in Tampa, it will take about 7 hrs to get Pensacola.....if there is anything that I can help with dont hesitate...I have been in Florida for 15 yrs.

  • Kira's mom Ship 02 Div 941

Kathy, Thank you for the information. I am looking forward to visiting her while she is in A school because we don't get much time to visit after PIR.
  • Aaron's mom

It's official! I got my SR's form letter today. He is 02/947. He was hoping to get into 900 div. I am happy for him. He will go to Groton for sub school after PIR. Are there any other 947 moms here?
  • BonnieRN

Hi Aarons mom...My daughter was ship 02 Div 940 and will graduate this week.  She is a flag bearer and I am excited to see them do their thing.   Be prepared to have your socks knocked off when his division has their PIR...I have seen videos !
  • KathyMmom

Hi Aarons Mom!  Yes - My son is Ship2, Div 947.  He will also be heading to Groton for sub school after PIR.  I loved his form letter - his 4 lines definitely sounded very positive.
  • jbsgirl1417

Hi AaronsMom and KathyMmom, my daughter shipped on Aug 8 and is in Div 947! Got her box and letter today! Her 4 lines were super positive and funny because she asked me if her boyfriend could come to PIR and I had already asked him if he wanted to go LOL! My daughter and I think a lot a like. She will be going on to Charleston for her beginnings in the Nuke field!!!!
  • theninjasmom

My son is 02/947 as well. He'll be heading across the street for Corpsman A School. It's gonna be tough for my southern boy to spend the hard winter in Chicago!

  • KathyMmom

02/947 - I've started a group for our PIR date

    http://www.navyformoms.com/group/pir-10-07-2011-tg-47

We can start a discussion group under this for each division that will PIR on this date and keep everyone together.  It's an open group, so feel free to join, and lets start supporting each other!

  • Charlotte(ship02Div930)

I'm so glad you all have found each other and started your own PIR group. My son PIR'd on June 10th and I still communicate with some of the other moms. We also started our own Facebook page. You will be amazed at your SRs journeys. Its so exciting! 8 weeks at bootcamp really does seem like a long time but the time really does fly by. Keep busy and before you know it you will see them standing tall and proud wearing their dress whites!! Hooyah!!
  • Micaela (AO Wife)

    Hello all,

My hubby is ship 02 div 946 and I am kind of confused why he got put in this division. He is 6'4 lol and has absolutely no musical talent that I know of?

is there a reason for this? he never had any ROTC experience or anything?

  • towermom

Don't worry Micaela - my SR is in Division 942 and same thing, but he loves his division and he is carrying a gun.  Says he is performing not only at his graduation but the one before his.  So I am hoping to get a glance of him in a picture.
  • Micaela (AO Wife)

Towermom: Oki doki gotcha :) Its just knowing him it sounded kind of funny.....but i bet with his personality he is enjoying every bit of it :) I am just now on week 2 so I cant wait to read a letter to see what he has to say about it!
  • Micaela (AO Wife)

Kathy: That explains it. My husband did extremely well on his ASVAB as well as a college degree. But yay! Very proud of him! and likewise :)
  • Micaela (AO Wife)

After a lot of research we came to the conclusion that we def. want to go the officer route later.....however OSC wasn't a guarantee, they have boards that meet like twice a year to decide IF he was accepted. Plus we heard that officers that went the enlisted route first to better in the long run (respect, etc) so we were not willing/able to wait a year and a half to see if he got in...so we decided he would go enlisted first, work his booty off and get to OSC with experience under his belt.

  • Micaela (AO Wife)

    Thank You, likewise :)
  • saladine67

My Daughter is 02/947, BandGeek, Jrotc, and high ASVAB score, whoda thunk it if y'all could just see her room, got a short letter today on RTC Stationary Mom's upset only one small page, Iam grateful nonetheless.
