Just got a letter from my daughter! I'm CRAZY happy to hear she is holding up well. It had been 2 weeks since we connected. UGH!!! She has 18 days left! it is getting close and I 'm getting VERY excited! Sam is Ship02 Div912. She is playing symbols for the next 2 PIR's. Could anyone attending please take pics of her. Possibly a close up.... (Am I asking for the Moom?) :-) I also would love to know where best to sit when I get there Feb.1st for the best view. Coongrats to this Fridays PIR's and their parents! ENJOY!!!!!
Hi SRmomship2div911!
Your PIR dates is coming up quickly! How wonderful and exciting! Did you mention that your daughter also plays cymbals? My SR PIR is 2/1. Any pics would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank You! "Keep Looking Up!" Denise
Hi There Ihill82125!
Thank you so Very much for offering to try and get. Some pics of my SR Samantha! She is playing Cymbals!
"Keep Looking UP"! Denise
Hi Proud Navy Mom Denise, I was so very happy when someone got a picture of my grandson so now it is the least I can do to pay it forward for someone else. we are all a Navy family now!!!
Good Morning All! My son is Ship 02 Div 913 PIR 2/8! I got a letter yesterday that states his Div will be at the next 3 graduations :) He is a Sideboy. I will be stalking all the pics I can find in the next 3 weeks - hehe Congrats to all the families with PIR tomorrow and safe travels!
Kylesmom - There are a few ways to get into 900 Div - you can volunteer the first night OR you get picked by the RDC to get put in there :) They ask when you first arrive if you have any experience (music/choir/drill) or by their ASVAAB scores because they definitely have to be able to keep up with the academics! Some get put in after the RDC notices they have good military bearing and can handle the marching and drill formation. These are things I have read over the past few weeks. :)
There are pics being posted already on the 900 Div fb page!!!! I truly believe one has my son walking with 6 other SR's! I teared up as soon as I saw it. Hoping to see more pics as the day goes on and see if I can confirm it is him! <3 Hope all in the 913 Div get a glimpse of their SR today!!!!!! Thank you to the families that are taking pics today and posting them!
So, I am sitting here bawling like a baby. My son shipped to RTC Tuesday 1/15. I got the "I'm here" call late that night. HE JUST CALLED ME AGAIN!! It was only about a minute long, maybe less. He told me he was doing great and in the 918 Division. He got his girlfriend's cell number. Told me that he loves me, then had to go. I can't believe I already got a phone call! I don't even have the box or form letter yet. His division must have done REALLY well. I'm so proud!
That's so nice, Bridgette. My daughter has a PIR of 1/25 and the most we had outside of two security info calls was a short call all of three minutes in mid December. We've gotten some wonderful letters and had the chance to see pics of her performing at the last two Friday's PIRs. If you are not on the FB Division 900 page, you should get there. We are also CO...Grand Junction.
She will be going to A school in Monterey to be a CTI. She had a year of college planning on going into music ed, but decided it wasn't for her. Now she'll be a linguist and is very excited. College life just was not her cup of tea. She's looking forward to the rigors of learning a language. Way back when she was shipped out on 11/28, PIR seemed so far away. It's flown by and has gotten so much easier for us and for her.
And you thought Craig was cold! GJ has been absolutely frigid. We are just starting to hit the 20's and it feels absolutely balmy. What is your son's rate? Is it your daughter's first semester at CMU?
Kathryn, I am so looking forward to visiting Monterey in March! Thank goodness for those security calls! He should be performing soon...what is he doing?
In case some are not on the facebook page, I wanted to share what a recent 900 Division sailor shared and hope it is informative.
**Mail** As far as mail goes, we were only allowed to read and send out mail on Sundays (holiday routine). When week 4 hit, that's when we were able to get mail and send mail everyday.Starting week 4, writing letters was during evening routine which is an hour before we went to sleep. The first 25 minutes of evening routine was letter writing and the last 35 was boot shining or whatever. On Sundays we had up until 1300 or 1:00 to write letters
**Phone Calls** We were only guaranteed to have 3 phone calls. The first was when we first arrived at Boot camp, the second is around week 4 or 5, and the third is after battle stations in week 7. But we were able to earn phone calls by achieving at different things.
PIR Practice - From week 1 (After p-week) until week 4 we practice every saturday from 3:00 or 4:00 to 6. Then the Saturday going into week 5 we practiced Monday, Wednesday, Run through on Thursday, then the real PIR Friday. We performed two graduations before doing our own
Just wanted to ask other's who have 900 division SR's...and I know your going through it now, so I wanted to know if you have gotten fewer letters and phone calls then others?
Kylesmom - I think typically the 900 Div families do get less calls and letters - these Div's usually start later and have more work to do than the other div so their down time is little and when they do have down time they are exhausted. My SR's girlfriend has gotten 2 calls and we do get weekly letters some longer than others...Just depends on how much of a writer your SR is and what position they hold. My SR is a Section Watch Leader so he seems to be always working. Do do love staying busy though! My SR went in on 12/11/12...
ok - call me behind but I just realized that the 915 (and 914) will only perform at one PIR, am I correct? Since there is a break between the classes. 2/8 is the last one before the 03/01. Well phoey! Any other 915's out there? Looks like we lose out on seeing our kids before their PIR. Am I correct? Thanks
Yeah, you are most likely right Jackie :( My son will be working the next two PIR's before his own. Praying for a glimpse of him! He is honor guard so the chances of seeing him are slim as he will most likely be working off to the side somewhere and not actually performing. Hoping you get to see your SR the week before your PIR anyway ;) Maybe you will catch some picks on the RTC Facebook page between now and then - you never know :)
Thanks to this group, I'm learning about what my son is doing! Still can't believe he was chosen for this group. I just hope he's happy about it. Hate that they have so much extra work but maybe he realizes it for the honor that it is.
congrats to all those "I'm a sailor" calls today and that will have PIR Friday!!! I anxiously await my turn in posting the same thing!!!! And Sunshine...I am right with you and just as shocked...unless of course they needed an intermission entertainment and were going to redo the gangham style dance...My SR did that at college before he shipped...LOL
K's mom...ok go figure...if my SR isn't the intermission show...then I guess I will have to entertain all of you here...consider it the sneak preview...LOL I am just saying...I am kinda sure my SR cannot chew gum and walk straight...but guess we will all see huh??
Any veteran 900 moms/wives/GF's/ anything out there to offer a lil input and guidance please??? SR been gone 19 days now...heard nothing to date (besides form letter n the 37 second "i'm here call"....I see people in the brother division getting calls letters etc, and know of 1 in our that got a 5 minute good call...is this normal?? I see people in other divisions who only shipped out a week ago getting long phone calls and letters??? I am sooooo confused
woo hoo...I got a call yesterday from my SR...he sounded great although being sick for a little while (seems several people have sinus infections, because of the dry heat), but very very well taken care of! My SR told me about the 900 div. He also said chow was good and the weather is cold, but they truly bundle up. So great to hear his voice! He said he finally got my letters!!! What a great way to end the week and start the weekend!!!
Kylesmom, calls were few, few, few and far between. Our PIR was Friday. We had two security calls, a five minute call before Christmas, and a 9 minute I'm A Sailor call. It's hard, but just keep those letters going in the mail. It kept my sailor sane!
I laid there last night feeling pretty low...but then it is like a switch flipped and all this worrying and wondering does not help anyone. I am going to stay positive and a good friend sent me a motto I am going to think of always......I don't believe you have to be better than everybody else. I believe you have to be better than you ever thought you could be. And when anyone puts in their best, there is no room for negatives
that's fantastic Sunshine66!!!! so glad to hear :)...have a great day! BridgetteH...so glad to hear! It is a great feeling to hear their voice. Hope all of you in 900 get a call soon!
