Ship 02 Div 920, unknown PIR date. Any others out there?? Just wondering how he was chosen to be in this division since I have learned that it's for those with band experience, which he hasn't done since elementary school. Hope he's doing well and hope to hear from him soon.
xcrkris...there are also sticks (flags) and various . There are also other responsibilities such as bodycatchers etc. If you haven't found 900 Division on Facebook, find it ASAP. It is a closed group. TONS of info and pictures, as well as a great community of families going through the same things you are. FYI...don't expect a lot of phonecalls, we had only a five minute call mid bootcamp and the I'm a Sailor call, in addition to two very brief security calls. Also, I'm sure you'll be able to find a facebook page for PIR with your grad date eventually.
Mommahead...Thank you. I found the facebook page and scoped things out. The PIR date is still not listed. 920 division is sticks (flags). Thanks for the heads up on very little phonecalls. That's too bad. I am patiently waiting to see him again. Hope all is well with your "Sailor". Thank you :)
My daughter is Ship 02 Div 918 and I still haven't got the form letter but I did get a handwritten letter and a couple of phone calls. Has anyone else not received a form letter from this division? I emailed RTC and they said that there is no way for me to get the password to download the parking info other than the form letter. UGH- one more thing to worry about
Hello, I just found this group and don't know a lot about the Navy...but learning quickly! My son is Ship 02 Division 919, and not one bit of musical experience! Does anyone know what this division does?
B's mom- Yes my fiancé is in the same division and it is considered the performing division but they have to be selected for it based on different things high asvab score, rotc, leadership skills, etc. but they are staff which means anything from master at arms to aroc which call commands as well as door guards etc. they will get to wear a little additional yellow scarf and cord with their uniform @ PIR! :))
Hi everyone, I see lots of new comers!! It is strange because I was in your shoes 6 1/2 weeks ago. Now as I get closer to our PIR, I am happy to help if I can if anyone has any questions. My group is Div 917, also sticks/flags, and my SR is carrying the State of TX flag. It is so exciting to think how close we are getting. There is not only tons of helpful info on this site, there is also a 900 division group on facebook too. Welcome to all, and enjoy this crazy journey!!
Hi and I am sure one of the admins will come on and remind all of you, but you must remember to follow all OPSEC rules for your SR and your own safety. Names should not be posted on pages anywhere.
Im hoping we are aloud to say our first names?? I thought that was alright!
I got a call from my son today also...so crazy 3:00 in the afternoon, who would have thought! My son also sounded good he said its getting easier everyday. He's still sick but said that he's not as bad as some guys in their division! Are either of your loved ones in ship 2? We are from WA state, hoping to go to graduation also. Even though my son keeps telling me to just visit him at A school because he doesnt think we will get to spend much time with him before he leaves for it.
~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
Bs mom...we didn't think graduation would be a big deal either. My daughter thought it wasnt before going turns. Turns out it really was meaningful, emotional, and special. My husband went...it was what we could afford. Luckily, I do get to visit her in Aschool in a few weeks.
BarbieShip...my son is in that division as well. When my brother mentioned that the 921 group was band, I was really excited. Now to find out exactly what he'll be doing...
You will get to see them a lot during PIR when they are in the band or choir. It was amazing seeing my daughter sing with the choir. Here is a little info that may help everyone with a recruit in the performing divisions.
There are actually three different performing divisions that rotate. One is a working group called ships staff and they work behind the scenes with VIP's and as greeters, side boys and body snatchers. Side boys for a Receiving line for the VIP's to enter through at the start of the ceremony. Body snatchers walk up and down the isles of sailors and make eye contact and even speak to the sailors to make sure they are not about to pass out. They often lock their knees because they have to stand in one spot for such a long time. If they lock their knees it can cut off the blood flow and cause them to faint. Of course the sailor behind them does their best to catch them :) Another part of the performing divisions is the flag corp and they carry and perform with the 50 state flags during the ceremony. The third part is known as The Triple Threat. The Triple Threat is made up of the band, drill team and choir and they all perform throughout the ceremony. It is so amazing how they can pull this all off in such a short time and still accomplish all that is to be done during boot camp. They are either chosen for this division or they can volunteer for it. If they have band, flagcorps, drill team, choir, or marching experience they can volunteer. They can also be handpicked or volunteer if they have high ASVAB scores. They don't expect them to need as much time to study which gives a lot more time for practice :) Once they are in the performing DIV they may be able to try out to be a part of the Triple Threat and be in the band, choir, or drill team. I hope this helps you all understand what your recruits are doing.
SalemPride....I was really surprised that my SR was put in the 921 div bc she only played the trumpet in middle school. I haven't received a letter from her yet...hopefully we will this Fri....so I don't know how she feels bout being in this div. I know it's gonna be a lot harder for anyone in the 900 divisions bc they have to keep up with everything else plus the extra stuff for being in this div. It just makes me pray for her more bc I worry bout her more.
Hi Fellow 900 moms! Our SR is in Ship 02 DIV920. ** we had a wonderful 33 min call with him yesterday morning!!
He cough a few times, the mom-nurse in me wanted to ask where the cough seemed to be originating from, but yay for me I didn't. We told him we love him and are so very proud of him!
He will be in the COLOR GUARD for three different PIRs.He said his position, but the line was staticky and I couldn't hear well. Cannot wait for 20130329 to come soon enought!
They all get the cough. The call it the Ricky crud. When my son called the whole room was coughing in the back ground. All the vaccines, lack of sleep, and close quarters takes a toll on those kids. So glad you got to talk to him. It sure helps us mama's get thru.
My son is also Ship 02/Div 922 DutchboyMom!! The recruiter gave me the wrong ship # but the right division. I guess its true what I have read. ....Don't send a letter till you get "the letter"
I'm baffled however. I have been reading this is a performing division. My son does not play a instrument, or sing. I believe 922 is Ship Staff though. I wish I could figure out how he was put there. He is a big physically fit man who I was told scored high test, and he swims. Are these some of the qualifications?
tammibea, I was told by the recruiter that it was because he had JROTC in HS and yes because he scored on the high side. Also while in DEPs he pretty much had the things that he needed to memorize done... so the double training strain might be a little easier.
they ask a bunch of questions when they first get there & they raise their hands if it fits..who has college? who scored above 90% ASVAB? JROTC? who sings? band? etc. & the recruits don't know why. Then they come & ask them personally can you swim? what's your run time? etc to try to determine which recruits don't seem like they'll struggle in boot camp & could handle the extra practice time. My son had college, scored in 90's on ASVAB, was physically fit & was chosen for a 900 div. that included state flags, drumline & guards. The shorter recruits were put on flags (for visual uniformity when performing), and he ended up being a balcony guard during graduation. He told us where to look for him when we got there, and I was able to go upstairs where he was and talk to him for 40 min before it started. ("You can talk to me Mom, but can't hug me.") =) It was great! Hope that sheds some light.
Yes..thanks WhiteClay! It was very helpful information. My son did attend college, had high scores, had things memorized, and is very physically fit. Can't wait to see him in a uniform!
My son is also ship 02 Div 922. He does not play a musical instrument and doesn't sing. Although he did good on his ASVAB and he can swim and is physically fit.
Thanks WhiteClay. My son is only 17 (turns 18 during BC) but has taken some college courses while in HS. scored 94% (if I remember) for ASVAB, was asked to take the nuke test, which he passed well. He is also a swimmer, was team captain and swam at our state Junior Olympics, so I guess that's what qualified him. He DJs electronic music, but I can't imagine the Navy being interested in that part of his skillset!
He also wants to be on a sub, so there you have it. Amazing what we learn here, isn't it? Reminds me of the Springsteen line "We learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school", We are learning more here from each other than from the official site, or from our SRs LOL!
Wow... they really are sounding more elite than I ever imagined. I am so very impressed by this group and extremely proud! I was told by his recruiter that those choosing submariner were very rare. That comment is just now sinking in as to what it really meant. I hope each and everyone these SRs succeeds in reaching their goals.
btw... in HS my son ran cross country, has his advanced open water scuba certifications and has study martial arts...
Hey... I finally got the official form letter. I already sent 2 letters using the adress the recruiter gave. It is slightly different but I'm thinking...hoping that those letters will get to him OK.
Just curios.....have heard other Division have been able to call home. Has anyone got a call from Div 922 yet? He left Feb. 11 wonder if it's still too soon.

Hello ladies,
Just a reminder OPSEC rules are also followed here on the Navy for Moms website. Last names are not allowed.
If you have posted with your SRs last name please copy the post to a new window, remove your SRs last name, repost it, and delete your previous post.
Thank you!!!
Remember there is also a division discussion within your PIR group for the 900 division that your SR is in. Don't forget to post there too!!
