My son is in Ship 02, Div 940 too. We are from Central Florida. I don't know either why he is there but he use to play trumpet at HS and is in really good shape cause he lift weights.
I sure didn't. I honestly am not expecting one at all.
This way I won't be disappointed or sad. I didn't get the first call, nor the first letter. I understand how he would want to call his gf first, I get that but I'm feeling a little hurt that I didn't get a letter too. One came for her today. Guess I'm sort of shocked, he and I are very close. I'm trying to get a grip on my feelings and just be ok with it.
Do not feel bad. I am sure he loves and miss you. He only decided that way of communication flows better. The good think is that you knows from your SR and he is doing good. I do not knows anything from my kid yet. He is taking control of his life, and as we did, he will make good and bad decisions from now on. Be patient, he will call you.
Actually I don't know how he's doing yet..his gf is in LA ans won't be opening the letter until late tonite :( ...I pray he's doing good...he has prepped for his Navy Cha Cha foe a couple of years. I just need to hear his voice for a minute.
Best FREAKIN day EVER! Just got off the phone with my daughter!!!!! We talked for 10 minutes 8 seconds. She's doing GREAT you guys! Tears all around, but she's fine! Says the food is really good and she 's glad to be in the 941 division. She said they have the nicest ship and a fancy bathroom with double flushing toilets LMAO! Tomorrow she goes to medical and gets the dreaded peanut butter shot and dental. She also talks to her interviewer (about security clearance stuff). OMG! So excited. Anyway, she hung up before her call was over to try and call her boyfriend. I don't know if she was able to call or if he got the call yet. But I am a happy happy happy camper! ♥
She talked to him for about 20 minutes then called me back!!!!!!!! I got 18 minutes and 44 more seconds!
We FINALLY heard from our 940 SR today - 15 minutes of catching up, with some laughter and some tears. It's tough for him, but he's working as hard as he can! He mentioned that the first mail came this weekend and a SR from TN had a 6 inch stack of mail and he said "Ya'll gonna help me reply to all these" Lol - this morning they helped him tackle his responses by addressing envelopes, etc :-) So glad to hear from him!
Hello All! Called the recruiter to get our daughter's addy. He then informed me that She's in Div. 942I! Not sure what she'll be doing but guess I'll find out. :) Looking at your posts it sounds like I might be seeing her at PIR with flags, in the band...do or singing...will the surprises never cease? :)
Hey Laurie is a Proud Mom! How'd you guess? ;) Sounds like your SR will be PIR'ing before my daughter...Do you know what yours is doing (ie stick, choir, ect)? I want to know if mine volunteered or if they just said "Get OVER here." :)
Hi AaronsMom my son is in Ship 02 Div 943. It is Ship Staff/Honor Guard. Read 900 Divisions info and it explains everything. It sounds great they do a rifle performance and more.
My son is in 941 and he will be playing snare. It is at first a volunteer thing, then the ones that show ability are drafted to fill the division...according to my son. To Susan, when you read about the 900 divisions, you will also see that they perform in the two PIR ceremonies prior to theirs. My son graduates on Aug 23, so he will perform in the PIR ceremonies for the 9th and the 16th. These can be watched on livestream...maybe we'll catch a glimpse!
My daughter is in SHIP 02 DIV 942. I got my first call from her on Sunday and that is when she told me that DIV 942 has additional duties. She played a musical instrument in grade school and was in choir her Freshman year of HS, so that must be how she ended up there. She will be doing meet n greet in the stands.
Hello SR mom's. I just wanted to get in on this a little bit. My daughter graduated BC April 5th. She is in Pensacola Fl. at Aviation school. She was in the 900 division. She is an athlete....High school, College and also a volleyball coach for 4 years...no music, drill or singing background. They needed some fillers so she was put in there kind of like a athletic helper. It is a great group....first time in 9 years the 900 division won Hall of Fame! The best thing about 900's are when you are at graduation, you get to see your Sailor before any other divisions. Mine was guarding the rails on the floor in front of the podium. We were able to hug and cry together the first couple of minutes we arrived inside!!! Any questions ...please ask! I still get choked up at how beautiful that moment was! p.s.... DO NOT STAY at the Super 8!
Hello Sonja, Thanks for the insight. My husband is in the 900 DIv also with no music or drill background, i wonder if its for the same thing. He is athletic was in high school and after high school. How soon do they know their (job) for the PIR?
They will know probably about a month before their first PIR. Dani was a rail guard for the 2 PIR's before her own then got moved down to the floor the day before hers. She also carried one of the flags they earned which was decided that morning. I think there are 10 flags they can earn. The day before grad. she called and said to look up on the rails for her....I walked right by her and I hear this..."MOM"...I turned and started bawling! There is also a job called "Body Snatchers" they have to walk up and down the isles where all the Sailors will be standing in their groups and make sure no one passes out. I hope he will be a guard...you will be able to go right up to him and give your hugs :) When you do....everyone...Please Thank them! God Bless! I am now waiting for her to finish A School so she can come home for a couple of weeks! She will be 24 in Sept. so I will miss her birthday for the first time. If you need strength during this time....this site is the best! Any more questions or anything....just ask :)
Just found out my son is also on ship2 div 943 anxious to find out if he is on the drill team or a body catcher. Looking for to hearing from him. My prayers are withem all
My daughter is Ship 2, Division 944 and she shipped 07/16/13. I haven't received her box or letter yet but sure I will soon. She is not a musician or a singer so I am curious what she is doing with that division. Really proud of her and so grateful for this website <3
My daughter left on July 17th, and got the letter yesterday. She is Ship 2, Division 944. Just found out about it being the performance unit. Was looking forward to graduation, but will be even more special now.
YAAYYY!!! My Son just called me!!!! We spoke for nearly 40 minutes. This is the first I've heard from him directly. He says that boot camp is fairly "boring" and that he's tired of doing the same things daily lol. I asked him was he eating well, and he says he's eating very well. He's had grilled fish, ribs, tacos, etc. I told him he seemed to be eating better than me rofl. He did say that there were a few knuckleheads that can't seem to get it together. He also told me that his div had a bunch of tall men, my son is 6'3. He also said that they got to watch the SEALS practice and march, my son said that was pretty awesome, he said that the SEALS had such discipline and they marched perfectly. Sooo, when the SEALS watched my son's div march they got laughed at by the SEALS lol. My baby sounded fine and like his normal self. He said most of his fellow SR's in his area are from Texas, which is where we are originally from, so he felt right at home :!
My son left on 7/9, and this was the first call since his arrival in Chicago. I haven't gotten any letter yet, although he did say he's mailed them. He did say that the first 2 weeks there are very busy, so maybe going into the 3rd week you may get a call.
In response to YooperMom, but also to PattiKimmiesMom who's children are also in Div 942, I live about 45 minutes from Great Lakes. I drove it on 7/13 to get a feel for the ride and to check out the area. My Sister accused me of "stalking" my daughter. I sent a postcard from the Navy Lodge when I was there. When I finally talked to her, it didn't surprise her one bit that I made the trip. Can't wait for PIR! I've never tried to rush through a Summer before in my life! Jools
