My son waited about 4 mos. after he PIR'd, but before he went to A schoo, he got the total amt. minus taxes. I think Jackie is correct that it depends on their contract.
My son was told that he would get his bonus after A school, well he is a seabee and got home from A school on November 8th. He didn't really save any money while he was away. Still no bonus- he only recieved the small amount of money that they gave after drill weekend. Hopefully he will recieve it soon!
my son had been a reservist CB for almost 2 years, when he was sent to Missippi for training, and then deployed from there to Iraq. He is a construction mechanic, he is attached to NMCB 27, any one else with sailors in that group??
I agree about the web cam, we have one, and my son bought one for his lap top, that he has with him, it is great, almost like talking in person!
About the ironing, I agree, for my son, a kid who never cleaned his room, sometimes took dirty clothes off the floor and put them on, to see how particular he is about his uniforms is hysterical. He even bought his own iron because he said mine had a "dirt spot" that he couldn't get off and he was afraid it would stain his uniform!!!!!
Maria, what a GREAT idea!!! we release balloons w/notes in them on birthdays, have been doing it since the kids 1st b'days. But I never thought of that!!!
Sorry Jacqueline.

They train the reservist when they are due to report...Is really hard to find info..
My son is in this program.
Thanks Angie, He got back in R.I. March 27th. you are right I am relieved. Not sure what's next, he has a 30 day leave and then he has to report to Newport. He is talking about going back overseas ;(
Hi all, I was reading all your posts, as for the computer you are correct, my son bought it online had it shipped home and we mailed it to Iraq.
My son has just returned from Iraq, he was away for all last years holidays, and for his birthday as well. It was difficult but with the help and support of lots of friends and family and of course Navy 4 moms. We made it. We are thrilled he is home for Easter.
Hi, my son is doing okay since being home from Iraq. He is more somber than he was before he left, he doesn't talk much about it to me. I have a brother who is retired Army, and I know he talked to him. He hasn't been able to find a job, so that is difficult for him. But, I really have not seen any worrisome after effects, Thank God !
Hi Maria, I was as outraged as you when my son went to Mississippi, the same thing happened to my son, and his "government charge card" was delayed because of some mistake they made! Fortunately we were able to wire him money, but I asked what about people who were also unaware of this and don't have any one to send them money or a credit card? He told me "mom, they just sleep on the floor of whoever will let them in their room and for food they look for leftovers or handouts!!! What a way to treat the men and women who are putting their lives on the line for this country! Until I read your comment I had just about gotten over this,(my son has been home from Iraq for about 3 mos.) I wrote to our representatives and congressmen, never even got an answer! Maybe you will have more luck with President Obama!
Oh Maria, don't apologize, the memory is there, it just surfaced (lol)!
I agree, too bad we couldn't go as a group to see our president!!!!!! Maybe if we get all the Navy moms to write letters someone will notice!!!
Hello! I am new to your group. I see Angie is here ~ so all is good! lol I will be reading more of your posts soon. My son is at GL BC. He will PIR on 11/20/2009. Then off to Pensacola for A school, and maybe C school. ~ kk
DonnaMc ~ My son is currently at GL. After PIR he will attend "A" in Pensacola, and possibly continue on to "C." Even though he has PIR 11/20, he may be waiting in Florida for his classes to start. Depending on the time line, he may front end some of his time. He is due to be back in college 8/2010. But...you never know. ~ kk
Hi Everyone, How is everyone? I'm new to all this so please pardon all of my rambling. My sons PIR is 11/6 then he is off to VA for A school. He told me he has already been informed he has been picked up for C school. Does anyone know if C school continues in VA. His rate is IS and my other question is if anyone knows if this rate gets deployed often. Boy, I'm full of questions
Thanks Rene! How long was the A and C school in length(combined) ? or could it be different for some? Thank you soooo much!! Boy this site is wonderful.
Dougs mom yeah I cant wait I'm sure we will have a nice reunion. We were trying to think of a couple of sites to see while he was on liberty. Most likely just a Saturday, we have a car so as long as we abide by the rules and restrictions we should be fine. I seen they have ESPN Zone, the sears tower there must be more. Anyone have any ideas?
dougs mom sorry it took me so long to get back I've been so busy getting ready or should I say getting everyone else in the fam ready for our trip out to GL for PIR. We are from Boston similar city soI've been told to Chicago in some sorts anyway. But I cant wait. He's gonna look like a different kid or I'll have to start saying man huh? He's still my little boy. Sure we all have that in us. Sorry for the emotions I worked late last night and couldnt fight missing him anymore so I broke down. Iwent into his room smelled his cologne and cried when i heard a song he could sing very good when he learns how to play the the expensive guitar I bought him before he left I dont know the the brand but it cost about $300. any one know if he will evenually be able to have an instrument and play? and find a teacher? Not to much to ask huh? at this late hour..ok my brain is fried got to go to beg. sweet dreams all xoxo
Rene did you get witer Holiday break over Christmas break? Thats the one thing the requitertold he wold havve most likely 10 days over xmas. It better be!!This group has hepled me out so much im just so swanped with all the other stuff of daily living. But guess what I did today??? NOTHING!!! I stay in my PJs all day payed with my addiction N4M then I wrote him a letter, threw a load a laundry in then back on my laptop cold and dard all day todayy. Thats what the sun will really do...gets you moving and living huh? tomorrow deffinatly out of the house. so it good night well im starting to talk gibberish so im hitting the hay goot night
Hello! My son has his PIR on 11/20. He will be going to A school in Pensacola (per his preliminary orders within a few days - which could change). He will not be home for Thanksgiving, but we hope he can come home when A School stands down for Christmas. If he does not get leave for Christmas, we will make sure we fly or drive to see him. Have a great week and Remember our veterans on Wednesday, November 11th. ~kk
Thank you everyone your words are so inspiring and reassuring. You know its funny just last year for Christmas I asked him what I could get him and the only thing he could think of was a laptop (his reasoning being classes at the community college) ya right! I got the web cam just because he didnt ask for it. Im so glad I did. Who knew he would pop out of no where and say mom Im going into the Navy. I want to say Im getting nervous (why I dont know) but that would be lying im sooo nervous and super excited for PIR in 3 days.
Hi everyone! It was a beautiful ceremony and even better to see my sailor (of course) it's funny because we got there and the seats downstairs fill very quickly so we had to sit in the bleachers. Well we or I was bewildered with all these sailors that I thought for sure was my son. My 13 year old forgot the binoculars at home so it took a little weeding out but we found him, it was just funny how they are so uniform and alike from a distance. So, I was a bad passenger on the plane or maybe just a crazy mom but toward the end of the flight I turned my phone on and dont you know the minute we stood up to get our carry-ons the phone rings!! mom I passed. What a hectic conversation with the noise and hustle n bustle but it was my call. We got to spend the weekend and then I bawled like a baby saying goodbye AGAIN. He just called today and is on his way to VA. I will be mailing him his cell and laptop soon. Wwhheeww over one hurdle. long one sorry girls
Kimbokatbo- he is going for IS. Im wondering what he is going to do after "A" and "C" school though. I mean the kind of job the descriptions are so broad. Like what are the majority of graduates doing for jobs? Does anyone have a clue?
D-Bs Mom- I did just this morning get a call telling me he was getting on a flight bound for VA @ about 0830 then I got a second call about 1730 letting me know he got there and giving me his address and that whan I has a free moment if I could mail his cell phone and laptop. I told him the one stipulation to mailing these items is he has to answer everytime I call or text. He laughed at me. Im already scoping out flights for february.
Judy- I guess better way to it is if anyone knows what he will do after his training at "A" and "C" school and then if he were to be deployed what would he be doing? He is going or at VA for IS so Im just wondering if he will be able to use any of the education or skills he learns in a civilian job. He didnt, couldnt get/find a job before he left. He was coing to community college but wanted a university and away from home. So in the Navy he went
kimbokatbo ~ Same here! Return to college, and a part-time job, after Pensacola. I hope to get some weekends with him in Pensacola. Also, hoping for Christmas at home ~ we will see. ~ kk
I had a great time with my son over the holidays - literally Christmas Eve to New Year's Day. So short but so happy to be with him. Since he is on hold for A School at Corry Station, I have booked a trip to see him in February. I can't wait for him to be back home and in college...but it is looking like a year from now. ~ kk
ZacsPamom It looks like we have something in common? Our sailors are in A school together. I guess my question is more specific to how often an IS reservist is deployed. Just wondering if anyone havs a crystal ball. I hope everyone had a nice New Year. My sailor was home for New Years, didnt spend much time with his mother but it was nice to have him for the other days.
my son did hear the same about the deployment. He said within six months after reporting to his home base. His PIR was 11/6, he is in week 6 (i think) of A school
D-Bsmom my son said it was the talk and possibly just a rumor around the base. I wonder if that talk was misinterpreted for other specialties other than IS that is. Because as Rene said her son has been home for a while after graduating from A school. I guess all we can do is hurry up and wait.
Judy I would be scared too, but I guess our sons knew what the obligation could bring. I give them all such credit for having the (what are those three words that describe our sailors) Honor, Courage, and Commitment. Tell him I thank him for his service and I will keep him in my thoughts.
Rene Brendan mentioned to me about signing up or on for IA (I think thats what he called it) it is relief for an active duty sailor could come home and a reserves go in for that sailor. I think I seen a post about that somewhere here but it was a ways back and I cant find it. Brendan was thinking of doing that.

posting specifics on this web site would be harmful to your son and every other sailor.
