Kimber...Thank you!! I have three other adults and a grandbaby but I'm not sure who will join me for the Meet and Greet. I've been the only one on N4Moms throughout this whole ordeal. If it weren't for you all and the Naval Training FB page, I wouldn't have a hair left on my head! lol..Oh, what is the dress for the night? Casual or dressy? And do I need to pick up something to bring as far as food? Maybe I should say....is there a post that explains all this so you don't have to go over it again? I'm rambling..lol...I'm so nervous and excited! You'd think I was three days away from giving birth to my recruit again! :)
Jeesh, I know Bonnie, tee hee that sounds great. It will all work according to gods will. It just kills me how much this is costing though. It is worth it !!!! My SR asked you do have a rental car, right mom? I think he wants to go shopping and all over town but..we shall see what actually happens. I only actually have him for Sunday his father has him for saturday so I am still contimplating the best plan of action. Very excited though!
Ok Carly, this is what I found out. Shuttle (847-689-1050) from airport is 60.00 to waukegan 1.00 for extra adults. we could split it if you want. I will pay 40.00 ? You can pay 21.00 does that work for you. Dont be afraid to say no. I just hate renting a car then watching it sit and I pay. Let me know girl!
If this question is too personal, you don't have to answer..but I was wondering what you all were getting your recruit (gift wise) for graduation. It completely slipped my mind with all of the other excitement going on and NOW I need to drop and punt! Help!! :)
Six of us going to graduation IS his gift..hahaha..for Christmas he got the new ipod touch (4th generation) which has facetime, facebook, lots of games, music etc..his birthday is right after graduation so we are getting him a nice camera..if they like to read, the Kindle with 3g and wifi is great too..just some suggestions..keeping in mind that space and portability will be a consideration for a long time....
Oh, ok NavyMom....I was just wondering if there was a special medallion or something Navy-ish. lol..My boy isn't a techy nor does he read alot (unlike his mom). He's a laid back surfer dude...gnarly huh? Maybe just that his wife, child, mom, dad and stepdad are coming will be enough if I can't figure something out.
Bonnie you are funny. I will be ready for that wet bar though.
Carly we are in the same boat dont worry, It will work out, I definatly dont mind waiting for you. we do not have to pay for the taxi until we get to waukegan, hope that is the area you are staying. My rent a car is only $100.00 SO STILL WANT THAT... but this is a just in case. "Anyways" (as Ellen says)

Wooow just since this morning I had to go back 5 pages to catch up... hahahah --- this site will be super busy for the next three days then it will get real quiet! I LOVE the Bday cake and prayer Idea.. The Ramada set up a podeum at MnG and microphone for us and each parent who wanted too got to say a brief statement about their Sailor and what ever... Its was great... so keep that in mind and ask them if they will set that up for yall also. It was fun...
I pray yall got the credit card rental problem taken care of... if anyone needs my help just send me an email... I got TONS of credit cards ugggggggg!!!!!! Ill help anyone in anyway I can!!!
I see the excitement and craziness... I remember this all sooo well! Remember my camera drop under the bleachers story... hahaha.... hang in there and enjoy the bar at the MnG and maybe even buy you a Baileys to stash in your morning coffee... At least remember to breathe!!!! Roll with it... enjoy each moment! SCREAM LOUD when your Divison marches in... THEY THRIVE on that!! I even took the most wonderful inappropriate moment as the crowd settled down after the group marched in and were forming their lines to SCREAM ------ MCCRACKEN whoop whoop! He told me afterward that it was awesome, embarrasing but awesome! hahahahah.... So have fun be loud and take lots of tissue and advil for your headache!!!!!!!
im packing, wrapping gifts and crying out of excitement today. I called my sons recruiter to tell him all about his progress and how well everything went and that he is graduating and, that i appreciated him. He liked to hear that considering i told him the day my son left that they were not my friends! LOL. He is a great person and i will never forget that he did really well by my son. Im excited to meet the staff the worked with my son during his time in boot camp. They are forever going to be heros in my heart for what they do. Its really a hard and demanding job, they deserve a lot of respect. I cannot wait to have my son to myself and just go have fun with him!! deep dish pizza and dogs baby!!!
Wow! You guys rock!! I cannot WAIT to meet you all. Lydia, you make me fall on the floor laughing! I just want to yell out "Way to go, Boo-Boo!!" when mine starts marching in!! I guess I'll table the gift idea. We are leaving Wednesday morning and I wouldn't have time to order anything now. I hope the hugs and kisses from his wife, daughter, father, stepfather and me are enough! ;)
Thanks everyone for sharing their stories on here. You ladies have been so helpful with everything that I need...you're the BEST!!! I just got done packing even though we don't leave until Thursday. Safe travel to everyone!!! I hope to make it to the M and G to meet everyone face to face ;)
...oh, don't forget to pray for all the divisions that are doing Battle Stations tonight.
Kimberli...I actually forgot about a graduation gift that I had ordered awhile back until it came in the mail today !! hahahaha..what timing !!! I know you said your recruit isn't big on reading and neither is mine but I ordered him a book because of how special it is. I know it wouldn't be something for graduation at this point but it might be a suggestion for another occasion or for other recruits for graduations down the road...It is the book about a Navy Seal named Michael Murphy who was killed while trying to save the lives of the men under his command. I didn't order just any version of the book, I ordered a signed copy, which is signed by the author and three family members of Michael Murphy. It is also personalized to whomever you want and it is numbered since only a certain amount will be available. It also comes with a dvd of the various ceremonies honoring Michael Murphy. The cost was $49.50. If you go to sealofhonor.com all the information is there. This is extra special for my son because he ran a marathon in honor of him and met his parents. We have a picture of several recruits, including my son, with the dad. This was a very big story and I think alot of recruits are aware of it. Marcus Luttrell was the only one of the group who lived and he wrote a book called "Lone Survivor", so far I have not been able to locate a signed copy of that for my son but I did order the book for him...maybe that will come tomorrow !! Thought it might be of interest to others....an inspiration for our Brand New, First of 2011,United States Sailors !! HoooooYaaaaaaa.....lol...
Navymom...You just sent chills my way! I think that is an awesome idea. I want to read it myself! I will go out and look at Amazon to see if they have it so I can download it to my Kindle and maybe read it on the long drive up to Chicago. I'll also check out the website you mentioned so I can get him the signed copy.
And New SR Wife, I'm prayin, prayin, prayin! I know it's going to be tough but I think all of our guys and gals are pumped and ready! Hoo-ya!!
A special thanks to Lydia for your wonderful support during this tearful, proud journey we all endured these last 8 weeks. You are a beautiful example of a human being with a huge heart. I'm sure I speak for the group and say WE LOVE YOU!!!!!
The only thing my son requested I bring to PIR is home made cookies! I also packed his favorite Cal Berkeley sweats, his favorite candy bar and a St. Christopher medal with the Navy emblem on the reverse. Don't know if he'll be able to wear it, I may have to bring it back home, but I will give it to him and let him decide.
Got the waterproof mascara, tissues, Excedrin, and ear plugs packed ( a friend told me the ceremony can get really loud). Lots still to do. Prayers for Battle stations.
I would like to say that you all have made me cry and laugh these past few weeks, thank you for that.all the info and personal update. You all have something special about you, not just your kids, but something inside that lets you care about others. that's a good quality. I'm excited to meet all of you at the M&G, hugs all around. See you soon.
My daughter sent me a letter, just got it. she said she has BS on this Wednesday and not getting to sleep for 2 days( yes days). then they get to sleep for 10 hours and then PIR. she is going to be so sleepy, I'm just going to have to take a nap with her so I can be next to her :/.lol
My Daughter said she had to take a test today, she failed it the first time, she fell asleep during the test, it was only about a 40 minute test, but she had been sick, on medication and was exhausted. So I was praying all day for NO phone call. Since I didn't get a phone call I'm assuming she pasted. Battle Stations are on Tuesday night, now I'm praying for a phone call on Wednesday.
Ship 12 Div 037's BS is Wed? does that mean they'll call Thur? I leave for the airport at 10am..boy this is really cutting it close! All divisions are in my prayers.
Anyone in this group who lives in NC, SC, VA, or TN, I need your help. I am looking for someone to send a ribbon to so that one of your fellow moms can get her ribbon. I made a mistake on her order when she changed the number of ribbons she wanted and I should have sent her one more. She lives in CA and there isn't enough time to get it to her. She is staying at the Residents Inn in Wakeegan and it could be dropped off there or maybe she could pick it up at the desk of your hotel. She won't be able to make it to the meet and greet, her flight lands too late. If anyone thinks they can help please let me know. I will send you a couple of ribbons for free. Thanks so much, Lora
Lala - Send the ribbion to the Residents Inn attn (moms Name) and call the Residence Inn to make sure they will do it. I will bet they will, since they get alot of RTC business
I live in Chesterfield, VA and will be staying at the Residence Inn. We will be leaving Thursday morning at 8:00. Please contact me directly and let me know how I can help. deutschhome@hotmail.com Blessings, Val
Val, thanks so much, I don't know if it would get to you on time since you leave so early on Thursday. But thanks for your help. I will check with the post office in the morning and see what they say. If possible could you send me your phone number in a message my email is lsjwilson04@yahoo.com Thanks
Joanie- the ribbons are to wear to PIR, they have the sailors name on one side and div on the other. You can see pics on my page if you click on my name it will take you to my page. Send me the info and if I can figure out how to get the ribbons to the residence inn maybe I can send you one as well. It looks like I may have to send it overnight and that is expensive. Okay goodnight ladies, it's midnight and my carriage awaits lol.
I dont know about you guys, but I had a restless night. Knowing what our kids were going through last night, laid heavy on my heart. I cant wait for that call today. Funny story..... It wasnt funny at all last night. I lost my phone!! After an hour of backtracking where i had been, of course I couldnt call anyone to see where I left it, i located it in my car.... In the bowels of my car.... It had fallen under the emergency brake and it literaly took me 1 hour to het it oout. My 82 year old neighbor helped me. I just kept on thinking that I was going to miss the call I had been waiting so long for. Anyway, got it and wont let it go. I taped up the spot where it fell through. Talk about redneck!!! No offense to anyone. I have had this car 7 years and that has never happened. I cam laugh about it today. Se you all in 2 days.. OMG!! Did I just write 2 days????? YUP!!!!!!!
I don't know about anyone else...But my stomach has been in knots for about two days. I am so nervous for my daughter. I've been praying for the past two months..but have been close to tears for the past couple of days. I want to see my daughter so bad....I just want to get that call. I want to get the "Hey Ma...I'm a sailor call, or I made it". If I can just get that then I can start packing for the trip. Like most people, I paid for my trip a month ago....and I'm just so excited to see my sailor march in with her Division. I can't believe i will see her in 2 more days....Yippeeeee.
Good Tuesday Morning!! Yes three days and yall will be together... 4 and you will be shouting, crying and hugging Sailors! Woooow what a ride. This book and chapter are almost over now. Then on to new ones!
When the Battlestations calls start coming in, be sure and get on your puter and tell everyone so that moms in the same divisions will be prepared for the call.
Good morning friends! I too am on pins and needles! I didn't sleep a wink and from the way it looks, my son will do BS on Wednesday night. We'll be on the road Wednesday and most of Thursday! I'm praying for good cell service while we travel!! My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you as we wait for that prescious phone call from our recruits. Back to pacing around the house!! I can't eat. I can't sleep! Anybody got a lead on a good under eye concealer? The bags are growing! lolol
Excited for you all expecting the I'm a Sailor calls today! They should start coming in around 2 pm GL time...or maybe later...Be ready all day with that cell in your bra! Don't leave it for a moment! With 4 divisions going through last night, the calls will take a while. Also, they may have to do PIR practice before calling. So be paitent. Please ask your new sailor if ALL in his/her division passed and post that info for ladies who haven't heard from their sailors yet. If someone doesn't receive a call, it could have been that your sailor had watch and will call tomorrow. 33-36 should have gone through last night.
I woke up...after an UBER restless night...woke up crying and praying for ALL of our SRs.. I am hopeful for those of you awaiiting that "I'm A Sailor" call. It is 705AM in AZ ....those of you on the East Coast may be getting those calls real soon!!
Thank you all, my sistahs for walkin WITH me on this crazy trip. I will see yas in Ill!!!
Suzi: They have their capping ceremony (trade their recruit cap for their sailor cap...this is the graduation ceremony) this morning...then they have chores to do, PIR practice, etc. They are not allowed to fall asleep until 8 pm tonight, so they are allowed energy drinks and candy bars! A real treat for them. Sometimes the calls come in the morning if they have BattleStations 2 nights before PIR (finishing on day before PIR). But usually they don't come until the afternoon. Be ready at any time! Mine came at 2:16 GL time when my son was there and we talked an hour. But he only had 2 divisions go through...since there were 4 divisions last night, calls may not be quite as long.
Are you sure about the schedule for battlestations? My daughter is in 036 and told us theirs would be on Tuesday.. today? I would be thrilled if she were wrong about that:) I would have missed being stressed out..
Thank you for the info. I did not know that they had to stay awake all day today as well. I should have, that only makes sense. LOL Ok, so how about this one then. So, right now it is SR, Last Name, First Name. Does this change after Graduation? And to what? Refering to the SR part.
Brittsmom: If you go to the BattleStations discussion above, you will see where a mom posted that last night was the night for 36, but another mom posted that hers said Mon or Tues. So...we shall see! There is always some confusion on the actual dates...we do the best we can with the info we have!
