Graduation was awesome ! Never in my life have I been so proud. Son had liberty till Sunday so we got to take him back to the hotel with us. The respect he was shown by strangers was unexpected and made us even prouder. Hip Hip Hooray !
What an awesome day at graduation yesterday! I am so proud of my sons and all our sailors. Thank you to all of you for your support throughout these long months. We spent all day today at Ohare with our two sailors just to be able to spend more time with them.
I love all of you, the support you have given, and was so glad to meet many at the M&G and at graduation. Thank you again and HOOYAH!
Blessed, My daughter had failed one of her written test also, but passed the retake, she told me if she hadn't passed the test she would not have been able to do Battle Station's. So if your son past the second test and did Battle Stations then I pretty sure very thing is okay.
JulieD so sorry to here about your sailors, but everything will work out.. Julie do you know when your daughter will get to do Battle Stations, I pray for both of you.
To anyone who was going to meet Bonnie at the Olive Garden- she wanted me to apologize for her- She is very sorry, her plans had changed and she couldn't get on the internet at her hotel, so she couldn't let you all know.
Theresa: I'm sorry I didn't meet you at the M&G, I aksed but I was told you couldn't make it. I wanted to thank you personally for the beautilful scrafe, my daughter and I love it. Thanks agian
We just got back to VA after a wonderful PIR weekend. I loved meeting so many of you through the weekend.
Salma - your son is a great leader - I think my son's tardiness at the airport was too much for him. Sorry it was our fault of not knowing we could go past security with him right away. All that hurrying onto the plane and then all those poor sailors had to wait almost 45 minutes before take off.
It was fantastic to have my son with us for a day on Friday and the see him off at 6:45am to Charleston SC. What's better is he now has his laptop so when I got home I saw he was online and I could chat with him immediately. wow - no more waiting for letters. He was able to tell me about the trip to A School and where he and his Nuke friends went this evening. They are free this weekend with nothing official to do until Monday. Life is good now that he has laptop, internet, and cell phone. All the stuff we brought for him strategically fit in the one laptop case- whew...
Glad to be out of the Windy City!! We'll continue to pray for all our sailors and God knows what each of their needs are right now and in the days ahead as we ask for His help for them.
THe ribbons were at The Residence Inn when we got there a bit before 3:00. After the other person got the package then ours were brought right to our door. Wore mine all day today too - sailors and other moms at the airport knew from the ribbons that I was a sailor mom. thanks so much - I will be wearing mine proudly at church later today! They are a beautiful keepsake! Much appreciation.
CONGRATULATIONS to all you great powerful women~! Even those whose recruits got hold back a little~! They will make it and be fine! I hope you all will hang around here and continue to share with everyone what your Sailors are doing. It has been an honor for me to hang out with you all! My son has two weeks left so he is in the final exam testing phase of RSS... need lots of prayers for my B! Ill check in here each day!
This weekend has been wonderful! I'm still spending time with my son. I'm not leaving till Mon am. He is leaving early Tues am for Pensacola. I love being with him, but I can't wait till I'm back in Florida weather. I don't think I'll complain about the 30's or 40's for a while!
Thanks Lydia!!! My prayers go out for B as his finishes.
Again thanks to all of you for the funny stories, updates and everything that got me through and will get me through the upcoming years as a Navy Mom!!!
Yesterday was aday from hell with flights delayed over and over again, and an airline mistake that left me with "no ticket" halfway thru my trip. I arrived at Chicago Ohare yesterday morning at 7am and finally got hime at 9pm last night... the problem with that is that I was supposed to have been home by 12 noon...I was only flying to VA. It has been a long weekend of trials and tribulations but it was all worth it to spend that short time with D. But even while I was in philly my son made it better with a nice 30 min phone call that allowed me to smile after being stuck there for more than 6.5 hours.
Thank you to all the wonderful Ladies that helped keep my spirits up and real goals in perspective with words of encouragement while I struggled to not have a complete breakdown this weekend lol
Now Im just waiting for my phone call from D tomorrow to let me know it is all over and he is on his way back to his Div. before he heads to A school , he still has a few days before he goes "across the street" as he says.
I so enjoy reading all the updates of eveyones visits - So proud of all the kids that gave it their all and didnt give up even if it meant hanging in there a little longer than they thought. How wonderful they all are. =)
Julie... you are a brave proud Navy mom! Congrats to your determination and stamina and positive spirit through all of this... now you can pay it forward sometime to some other new moms who will doubtlessly go through tough times too! hugs sister.
J'sBro - I thank you honey for your prayers... THANK EVERYONE!!!! Im soo happy that your Sailors are into a new chapter in their book of life now. Which of course means yall are too! hahaha......
Jan... safe travels back to FL gf.. R will be in good hands with his buddy B that I can promise you! I just talked to B he is studying medical assesments.. Big tests coming up!
To all the 01/07/2011s God Speed and God Bless!!!!!
Ohhhhhhh Im just so proud of yall and thankful to be part of such special women!!! hoooooooyaaaaaaaaaa... love yall... thank you Salma... yall keep this site going! You can start a new one ... or just stay right here! love yall!
At home and just loving all the moments that i have stored in my memory bank from this weekend. I had such a great time and i cant wait till our reunion!! LOL Im with Lydia on staying here if you all choose to do it. Whatever works to keep everyone in touch. I wish that I had met more of your Sailors, I really ran to my son, latched on and took off as soon as I could with him to get my maximum visit in with him. I was just so thrilled to see him that I could hardly contain myself.
Today its rest, catch up on happenings and rest! I love a good sunday rest!
Just dropped my boy off at A school. Another teary goodbye!! I hated to leave him, but it is better than where he was. We will leave in the morning for our 7 hour ride home and back to life as we know it. I know that I am fortunate to have had such a short trip. Some of you drove and flew from a lot further away. It ws great to meet all of you and I wish you and your sailors the very best. God Bless. Lori
Just dropped my son off at the base for the last time. Heading back to Florida in the morning. He'll be following on Tuesday. Can't wait to get back to some warmer weather! I had a great weekend with Bonnie, GG, Regina, and all of the other mothers. Your son's are great! Now I just have to get used to the mothers names and connect them with the last names of the boys. This is too confusing! It was just fun watching all the boys together, relaxing with each other and just being boys!
Good Morning All !!! Finally back home after the most amazing time in IL...it looks like many of us are just about missing some major storms coming to our home areas...everything working out so well..Hope it all clears out in time for the next graduating class !!
I am still floating with Happiness from the entire trip...(Deliriously tired, but happy..lol..) The meet n greet was so much fun. It was great meeting so many of the moms and families. There are some people I didn't get to see and I wish I had. Theresa is one of them. I don't know where I heard that you weren't there but now I am reading on this site that you were...I wanted to be able to Thank You in person for my scarf !!!
Bonnie, Thank You again for picking up my ribbons. It was so much fun meeting with you and "visiting" on the phone. Thank you too for bringing my son to us in the morning and taking him under your wing when we had to leave in the morning..I don't know about anyone else but that was extremely difficult for me..I cried for a good part of the hour ride to the airport...The tears were a huge mix of sadness, joy, relief, gratitude and many more emotions...He leaves for Pensacola in the wee hours of the morning on Tuesday...We were so fortunate to see him all day friday, saturday and sunday morning until we left for the airport...The only thing that made it bearable was knowing that he would be with such wonderful people when we left.
Getting together with Bonnie, Jan, Becki and their families and Sailors was a huge treat !! Thank you all for including us in a special memory !!! As Jan said, it was so much fun watching the boys together...they were all SUCH nice guys..I keep thinking about how I turned around and saw my son signing the bill for our dinner..I said, what are you doing? and he said, with a huge smile on his face, I've got it mom, this is my treat...I was so happy and surprised and very very proud..my baby is now a thoughtful and responsible Man...right next to me was Jan and her son and sure enough, he had their bill in his hand too...just warms my heart...
Kim, Thank You again for picking up the Birthday cake, that was a great way for us to celebrate our "babies" even though we can't be with them on their special day...It was so great getting to speak with you !! I loved getting to chat with so many of those here on this great site.. Yay Cindy, we finally met !! So much fun !! Salma, Thanks for finding me before you left..I was so happy to get to speak with you...Sugarscoop, that was hysterical when I was having the woman put my "code name" on my nametag and you heard and said, I'm Sugarscoop and we screamed with laughter and everyone around burst out laughing !!! I could go on and on with the wonderful experiences...there were so many...Reni, I hope your son loved the basketball, what a great idea...
One of my very special "meetings" with a navy mom was when I was in the cafeteria in the NEX (does that place have a "name"??) and my son and his girlfriend were ordering their food. I went over to take their picture (I know, I know, I'm over the top because I wanted to take a picture of my sailor ordering food in his uniform..hahahaha) and as I stood behind them I noticed a woman with one of Lala's ribbons on. I asked her if she was on navyformoms and she said yes and told me she is Jbro'smom...I told her I was GG and we started to chat..Well...this adorable, precious little man with her was the "J" in Jbro and I had the very special privelage of meeting him too!!! As I stood there speaking with his mom, he suddenly threw his arms around me and started hugging me...OH My Goodness...that hug was almost as great as the one from my sailor !!! My daughters were close by and they saw it and could not believe how priceless little J was !!! I'm telling you, the experiences with everyone from navyformoms has been amazing !!! Bonnie told you all the story about Becki and the license..we were sitting next to Becki and behind Bonnie and it was hysterical..I still laugh just remembering it !!!!
My kids and my husband had so much fun watching all of us interact....Now they have a better understanding of my time on the computer for all those weeks !!!
Lydia, Thank You again for all of your help, it was fun yelling out to you at the MnG...Jessica and Lynne and Diannep, Lala and all of the seasoned moms, Thank You again for all of your help and support...Lala, YES, I got the ribbons !! Thank you..they are beautiful and were a wonderful way of knowing who to approach when we were on our trip...It was so much fun speaking with you...we will stay in touch !!! I would highly recommend your ribbons...they are a great conversation piece !!
Congratulations to the sailor who designed the 802 division tee shirt. After the graduation ceremony, my son said he had gotten us all a gift, he would be right back. I don't know where he went but when he came back, he very proudly handed out the division tee shirts he had purchased for each of us. I could see that it was his way of Thanking us for being there in a very symbolic way. His division means so much to him, as does his family...it was his way of integrating them....
I'm so glad we will continue this journey together...Congratulations to All and prayers and good wishes for those who had some loose ends to tie up...I am grateful to be a part of such a wonderful, strong, courageous, caring, loving and thoughtful "team"....GG
Returned to sunny AZ yesterday around 11:30AM. The lowest temp here while I was gone...32 degrees. I should probably NEVER complain about cold again!!The MnG was great!! PIR was amazing.
Back home after a perfect weekend visit with my new sailor. Beautiful ceremony, wonderful parents, gorgeous graduates. :) Thank you to all for the great tips for making the trip a success. I hope everyone had a great visit and got safely home. Best wishes to all on their next assignments. I'll be following the SWCC mothers, sons and daughters to Coronado. Anchors Away!! :)
So here's my question: is it 'normal' to feel this depressed after SUCH an awesome event?
I keep telling myself it is the 'after Chistmas/ New Years ' letdown as well as being SO uptight about the roller coaster ride of being a Navy mom. Any thoughts??
Tracy
Tracy, I would think its real normal. This is your child you raised and were with 24-7 for many years... letting go is not an easy task. Just try to think of it this way, remember how excited you were when you went out on your own? They are really going to see the world and we get to see it through their eyes. You let go so your child could live a rich and fufilling life and become a successful person, its a wonderful thing. pat yourself on the back MaMa! you are great!
myhero... oh my yes... soo normal... Like post partem blues only this is post PIR my baby is grown up now blues! You will balance back out again especially once you have daily/weekly communication.. STILL you will be on a roller coaster ride for a long time! Right on Kimber!
Hi Tracy...After I posted this morning I fell sound asleep. I woke up from a dream that I don't remember but it was a navyformom dream. Whatever it was it must have been good because I felt like I had been laughing. The first person I thought of after I got up was you..Then I get on navyformoms and there are posts from and to you !!! Not sure what thats all about but I'm glad it gives me an opportunity to say hello and let you know how great it was to meet you and your husband. It was so nice speaking with you at the meet n greet.... I agree with what you, Lydia and Kim said about the "let down" feeling... not only is it normal but I think most people will experience it in many different ways...our entire system has been on high alert for so long and it's as if it needs a rest, desperately...we will have to learn how to adapt to our sailors new lives and schedules now that the initial "trauma" is over...that may take time and we need to be patient with ourselves as we now navigate a new version of them being away...I'm not sure it will ever be easy but hopefully it will get "easier" as we develop ways of dealing with it and as we keep our focus on the positive aspects of it, more often then not...It's important for us to process our emotions and then look at the good in the situation..Keep things as upbeat as possible, read a book that is uplifting, listen to great music, watch a funny movie, talk to someone who makes you laugh, get out in the sunshine, do something you enjoy....Nurture yourself and if anyone is around who can nurture you...let them !! Let's all keep sending Love and Good wishes to each other...our thoughts and intentions are very strong...InJoy...GG
I just got home! I got up at 4am and left the hotel at 5. I didn't want to be driving through Chicago during rush hour. My plane was scheduled to leave at 10:30. I made a wrong turn off of the highway in downtown- oops- only drove a few blocks and thought I'd better go back to where I goofed up and start over. I found my way back and on the right highway. Filled the rental up, stopped at Burger King, and thought I'll just go over to the airport and just hang out. As soon as I walked in- about 7am, I found out that my 10:30 flight had been canceled, but they had a flight leaving at 7:30! Bag checked, through a long line at security, had my boots on that had to come off, my sweat shirt, coat, cell phones, computer, (of course I had to layer more clothes than normal, because of all the extras in my suit case) Anyhow-- I made it on the plane and my checked suitcase made it to Florida too!. I'm exhausted! My husband was so sweet! He had a beer ready and waiting for me when I got home. I had a wonderful weekend! Thank you everyone!!
We made it!! I'm grateful to GOD, I found this site and joined. You are now considered my military family. I loved hugging you guys and the meet and greet. It was funny my girls were saying GEE mom your like a celebrity you know everyone at the meet and greet. I told them yes.... its our new family who cried with me during those difficult days. Thank you for your wonderful and loving friendship. I love you all.
Iam home and i am sad. i will check in with everyone soon . I miss him so much. He looked awesome and for that I am grateful. Now we have to go onto the next chapter. Here is my family..... Well, cant figure out how to get the pix on here. Oh well.
Hello ladies!! I am so tired!! Got home at midnight and headed to work shortly after. However, I've been feeling like most of you. Really sad to be away from my sailor still. But....again you ladies never fail me and always have words of wisdom.
Thank you again for the wonderfu MnG...thanks for letting me tag along on this ride :-))
Ok Ladies, I have not heard from D today, and he was supposed to do his BS last night...not feeling to good about this. I tell you what I'm gonna need a shrink soon if all this stress keeps up...I thought it was over...guess not. I know calls were late for the div he was doing BS with, and the fit div he was sent too while he was retaking his test has an early lights out of 8oclock so I don't know...any thoughts?
What an amazing weekend with my son and all my navy mom friends!!!
Sugarscoop- I had a blast with you and your family this weekend and hope to have many more fun times with you guys!! You know my dad won't miss it either!! ha ha Thank you for being with my son last night after I left and calling and crying with me :)
OK guys, Last call. I am going to call the photo shop to see if a dvd of graduation was included in the packagge I got. If so, I am going to cancel 1. Does anyone want me to keep it and send it to you when it comes??
ej grandma..... ericsmom has a dvd of the PIR you can buy so that you can see the ceremony. Believe me well worth having one!!!! Yes a lot of the Sailors are gone on now to their A schools etc. They sell them through the NEX in GL. She bought an extra....
navymom and sugarscoop... how sweet!!!!!!
Julie - My thought is still the usual.... No News Is Good News.... I hate to say those famous words but hang in there a bit longer! His situation is soo different than the other kids were. Remember one thing... The Navy WANTS him to pass and Im sure he did!!! Also, this too shall pass. Soon this will be over and he and you will be on to better brighter days.. I promise it will get better soon!!!
Please keep the DVD, Ericsmom.... I did not get one.
I just got home from Great Lakes last night... drove back to Alabama. Everything was closed here. When we got to the state line, our state did NOTHING to the roads. It was a stressful drive home. We had to drive an additional 50 plus miles from the line to get home.
Just catching up.... Ericsmom, let me know. I will gladly pay you and pay shipping to get it!
Ersmom: It has been all over the news that the "South" doesn't have the equipment to keep the roads clear. Hopefully it will be in the budgets to get before NEXT year. They said that Atlanta is really socked in because of lack of snow-clearing equipment. Glad you made it home safely!
Thanks, Diannep... it angered me to see all the way through Tennessee, Nashville and south to the line, it was cleared. As soon as we got to Alabama... it was horrible. We had to cross a bridge over the Tennessee river... I was in fear. It was a solid sheet of ice, and no matter what anybody says... no one can really drive on ice, and it had not been touched or treated at all. God is good... we made it.
ej grandma: Some would have been shipped to A School by now, others may still be held in GL leaving in the next few days. Do you know where he was going for A School? Hopefully once he gets there and gets settled, he can call you.
Your son is staying in GL right? My daughter is too .. I wonder if we get a call today, once there settled in. Well, wishful thinking. lol I'm sure it may take a few days or so. I'm ready to get her new address to mail out a few boxes to her. I was told the US Postal office gives discounts to ship to military bases?? Right??
Story;
On Sunday morning while shopping at the NEX store , a group of brand new recruits came in holding a list of items to purchase at the store. The RTC were yelling at them.. I couldn't be in there with all the yelling going on. They were scared I can see it in there eyes and in there voice when addressing the commanders. I wanted to hug them and tell them it will be OK. I know its the RTC job to get them military ready ..but still as a mom I was feeling bad for them. It made me realize even more how strong our Sailors are in getting through anything challenging in life. I love them all.
Ms Ampi - not discounts per say but they do have boxes that are flat shipping and the rates are pretty good. They are the ones that we use when sending our carepackages over seas. They are Priority mail flat rate. They have the boxes right there in the post office. Try that. I sent my son lots of treats in one and it was a bit cheaper and quicker than regular mail..
Ms Ampi...yes, my son told us on Sat. that his division had to wake up at 2:30AM today because some of them were flying out to A School. He had to pack hs sea bag (80 lbs) and walk over to A school. I don't know what time though.
We rented him a locker at Lock n Go to hold his cell phone and contacts/soluttion. I kinda hope to hear from him soon! I don't know about discounts but I'll definitely ask..
I am so proud of our kiddos....907 especially, did a fine job!
Tracy
Oh...tha woulda broken my heart tto see thoae SRs and th RDCs yelling at them.
We finally got home last night. We dropped our sailor off on Sunday at 3pm- He was so happy and ready to begin next chapter- we drove to Nashville and all the roads were ok. Woke up yesterday morning in Nashville to snow. I am w/ ERSMom- once we got into Alabama it was horrible no plows no salt trucks NOTHING. It took us 5hrs to go 100 miles! I was a nervous wreck, once we got home just passed out. I was never so happy to see the Florida state line in my life!!!! Ya'll can keep the snow!!

I keep telling myself it is the 'after Chistmas/ New Years ' letdown as well as being SO uptight about the roller coaster ride of being a Navy mom. Any thoughts??

Julie - My thought is still the usual.... No News Is Good News.... I hate to say those famous words but hang in there a bit longer! His situation is soo different than the other kids were. Remember one thing... The Navy WANTS him to pass and Im sure he did!!! Also, this too shall pass. Soon this will be over and he and you will be on to better brighter days.. I promise it will get better soon!!!

Right??
Story;

Oh...tha woulda broken my heart tto see thoae SRs and th RDCs yelling at them.
