Hey Rickysmom, I bet I saw you heading south.. at least I saw a FL tag heading south in TN. I live in Decatur, AL. I cannot believe the roads were not treated or anything in Alabama!!!!!!!! We had to cross the river and it was solid ice. I am glad you made it home. The morning I left, a chick on Chicago CBS 2 made fun of us in the south... I have news: I woke up Christmas in Chicago the roads were clear. Wake up in Alabama and you will have no clear roads coated with ice. I don't care where you live, ice is difficult to drive in. I saw plenty of Illinois tags in ditches and off the road when I was driving home Dec. 26th, too.
Ladies I think the no news is good news is true and I will go with that because after my morning I seriously believe I am being tested for one reason or another.
my 16 year old daughter came in this morning and woke me up.. it was still dark so I couldnt see her as she told me her face and lip was swollen. ok a 16 yr old girl has a tendency to over react so before I turned on the light I was thinking she had a bad zit or something... I didnt expect to see the sister of the elephant man standing there when I cut the light on... I thought I was gonna have a heart attack, and needless to say I dont think my exclamation of "oh my god" helped the situation any because she didnt believe me when i tried to back track and say its not that bad.
Anywhoo... we ended up making an arly trip to the ER for a cocktail of Prednisone, benedryl and pepcid ( i never heard of pepcid for an alergic reaction) Still have no clue what caused it and the swelling is still pretty bad, but bless her heart she is hanging in there. School is closed today and hopefully by tomorrow it will be gone.
I am thinking whatever the reason I havnt heard from D I am gonna have to believe that no news is good news because I am begining to feel exhausted and ovewhelmed so I need a min to catch my breath.
knock on wood that the 12 yr old doesnt find anything to get into ....
Julie - good grief!! Does the saying, "When it rains it pours" come to your mind! did they have any suggestion as to what might have caused that? Did she get bitten by something? Weird! Im glad her school was closed so she can rest ... you dont worry about your Sailor. There are a number of reasons for no call yet!! Just continue to hang in there and everything will fall into place! I do know that this is easier said than done - trust me!!!! Ugggg.
Julie, im so sorry you are getting hit with everything at once! that just menas that good is right around the bend! i hope your daughter gets better, that cant be fun at all. :(
Julie..The prednisone causes acid production, so pepcid is given to counteract that. We always give our patients who present with an allergy to the contrast we use or seafood, a dose of solumedrol IV or predisone orally, benadryl and pepcid.I hope she is better. I bet it was something she ate. Any dietary changes would be worth noting... nut allergies can pop up when you least expect. Best wishes and keep me up.
Rickysmom, we were in a blue taurus with Alabama plates. I think the vehicle we saw was a car. We did not stop very much... we stopped in KY for lunch and needless to say, that is difficult on a 48 year old bladder.
Kimber and Lydia thank you so much =) I wish I had some Idea as to what caused Lexys reaction, they are sending us to a allergist tomorrow because since the initial allergic reaction is usually much milder that any that follow they want us to try and figure out what it was. it is strange tho, last night she cheered at a basketball game and was fine when she got there but when she came home she did mention her face was tingling but I didnt think anything about it. She didnt eat anything while she was there and just a drink from the water fountin...so no clue. no new make up, no borrowed lip gloss no bug bites that we know of...it has me stumped.
maybe god is just getting it all out of the way at once for me =)
Julie, they will likely give you a prescription for an epi pen. She will need to keep that with her from now on, and they will show you how to use it. Yes, the initial reaction is usually the mildest. If she has any more swelling, shortness of breath... get her to the ER. It is strange that it seems to be a delayed reaction... best wishes finding the culprit.
Ersmom thanks for the info... very very much. I just told her I wanted her to start keeping a food diary for me so we could try to figure it out. She thinks Im nuts because i made her change her pillowcase just in case it was a hair spray or gel or somthing. She is still so swollen... the Dr told her it could take 5 days for the swelling to go down. she just came in to take her next dose of prednisone and benedryl and told me she was NOT going to school tomorrow like this... I feel so bad for her. plus she said her face is tender. She got new make up for christmas? but wouldnt we have known that before now.... Im so confused and impatient... its gonna drive me nuts till we get to the Dr tomorrow.
Hello All...Boy it sounds like alot of people had some harrowing experiences..Rickysmom and Ersmom...Thank goodness you are all home safe and sound...my heart races just imagining what it was like...I know when our plane landed on sunday evening they announced that it had to be towed to the gate for some reason...I didn't care at that point if we had to crawl to the gate..lol..at least we were on solid ground and the relief I felt that we had all made it to graduation was incredible...I was so grateful...
Julie you have certainly had your share of challenges and then some....I do believe we are sometimes given opportunities to practice the ability to have faith that everything will work out the way it is supposed to, it just isn't always on our time schedule and it isn't always according to our plan yet it is always right...For the 3 weeks preceeding graduation I was sicker then I can remember..It went from the flu to a severe upper respiratory..my husband then got it too and it complicated some health issues he already has. We spent all day Christmas in the emergency room yet miraculously he came home that night...it wasn't looking good as far as getting to graduation but I refused to succumb to fear...I'm not saying it didn't get me now and then but overall I just kept believing it would all be fine...I kept picturing us getting on the plane, sitting at graduation, hugging my sailor, etc..I visualized it over and over again..Sure enough, it all worked out perfectly...THANK GOODNESS...lol...There are many things we just don't have control over but we do have control over our mind..The best we can do is hope and pray and think the most positive thoughts we can...yes, fear gets us by the throat sometimes but we have to gather our strength and courage and pull ourselves back up..I believe strongly in what I call my "unseen helpers" and I think I have just about worn them out these last few months..lol...One of the greatest gifts we have given ourselves was the decision to join N4M and accept the Love, support and guidance of this amazing family...I am so grateful to All of You !!!
Navymom, I am glad you are well. We took a new grad with us Saturday whose parents did not come for graduation... cannot imagine. I think I would have crawled to it if I had to. I am not judging them.. their circumstances may be very different from mine... I just know I would have not wanted to miss it. Strangely enough, even though the ride home was terrifying, I thought at least I knew my daughter was taken care of and was fine, and I got to see her!
Julie, I fully understand! When you are a mom, you are always a mom. We worry and fret over our kids and they do not understand. Not at least until they themselves become moms. Do what your gut tells you about protecting her from possible allergens, and at 16 she will complain. One day she will know and understand how much you care. Hey, if she can afford to miss school then don't stress it. I feel for her! At 16 going to school with a puffy face will elicit more questions than she wants to answer! :D! I will pray for you guys!
I LOVE being able to talk to my son everyday!!! Life is good! He had to buy a swifer! LOL and cleaning supplies. too funny- he called to ask what kind of laundry soap does he want to buy????
I asked if I could send him cookies or brownies. And he said yea if you want!! So I guess I will be making him some brownies tonight now that I have his address
We came home last night, very long trip. I just found out today that my daughter is planning on getting married soon. She has not told me but that's what I here from the grape vine. why do they feel the need to get married quickly because they are in the military? She has not known this boy long, but she is saying she loves him. how do you get through to them that they need to think things through before taking that jump. If her boyfriend had his life together maybe it would be different. his personal life is a mess, and my daughter is moving up in the world, and he isn't. any suggestions . I need help.
Scuttle, that is so hard. I wish there was an easy answer. If you buck her getting married, I will bet that will push her into wanting to do it more. If you express you dislike this boy or that they have not known each other long enough, it will likely push them together more. Getting her to look at her situation logically may or may not help. I would confront her about what I heard, and ask her some basic questions... where are you going to live? Income? How they will manage being separated during possible deployment? Has she thought about all this? I wish I had an easy answer and wish I could help. I can see you believe she is making a mistake. I am afraid if you let on too much, she will be pushed to go ahead and marry and it will estrange you from her.
that would be the case, she will do what she wants when she wants, she always has. I don't dislike him. he has a lot of his personal life to clean up before he adds my daughter into it. (job, car, he has a son that he never sees, his x is no good). If he was busting his a-- to get his life together I would have less of a problem with it. I would like her to bring some one home that is the perfect guy, someone like her daddy, maybe there isn't one. :(
No Jan...we haven't heard anything yet....I just spoke to his girlfriend and she didn't hear anything either...I know they are fine but I feel like a kitten on a hot tin roof !!
Does anyone know anything about the picture packages and the yearbook? My son got the higher priced package but it doesn't list the yearbook. He also ordered the dvd and some frames and the poor guy spent over $200. but I just looked at the order form and the cruisebook is not checked off..There is a frame called anchors away and I think he thought that was the yearbook..I remember awhile ago people saying that you couldn't order it after the fact...anyone know anything about this ???
My son loked at his order form over the weekend, and noticed that it didn't list the yearbook either- but he said " oh, that was included on the $140 package". He had to pay extra for the DVD
Just heard from him! He is now at Ohare waiting to go to Pcola. He said they shined their boots all day yesterday, waiting for better weather so they could leave Chicago! Only it's going to be cold down here too. 30's and the wind chill make it in the 20's. But it's a little better than Chicago. I know the sun felt a lot warmer than up there.
Navymom: I tried to order The Keel (yearbook) after PIR...about 2 weeks later when I realized that my son had not ordered it nor did he get Pkg A which includes it (for free). Did your son get the $140 Pkg A? If so, the yearbook will be shipped to you. I was too late to get one when I called.
Hi Diannep, Thank You for the info. He did order package A and I called the photolab and they said he should have filled out a white card in order to receive it. Hopefully he did..we're still waiting to hear from him...if he says he didn't then I will get in touch with the email contact you gave me...Thanks again !!
Thanks to everyone I have meet through this process. I am sorry I was not able to see all at the Meet N Greet. My prayers for all of your New Sailors Navy carrers. I was so impressed with their Dress Blues and just the entire group of Young People. Graduation was amazing. Hope to see the Video. Special Thanks to Kim, Tracy, Lydia, Ampi, Jan R., MamaG, GG, Queen Bee, Renie, Salma and others who have been there and given me that support. God Bless our New Military Life and May he guide us through it all with Grace. PS Congratualtion to E., Jan, way to go!
Hi Ladies!!!! I am having a great day today finally... hahaha Lexys face is back to normal thank goodness that seems to be over for now and tnchell just let me know that her son let her know D is back with his Dvision, so that means BS was passed and is over! woo hoo glad for know and not be guessing. So he should be moving to his A school today, thanks to navymom4e for letting me know that info... WHAT WOULD I DO WITH OUT YOU ALL! This is the best day!!!! For the first time in over a week I am not worried or sweating it lol shewww.....I can breath!
I just heard from my son and he did make it to Pcola! He thought he might not get out of Atlanta today, but it all worked out.
Lydia! He saw B tonight at the Galley. He said that he looks so different! He said that B was in class tonight or he would be hanging out with him. But he is hanging out with J who went in the day before him and graduated on 12/22.
hahaha ... I just get goose bumps reading these posts... okay but now seriously yall yall need to chose one site to stay on... cause its hard hopping from one to the other.... lets vote to go ahead and move our arses to the Alumni site... okay... hahahaha I know its hard to leave one for another but really its still us right...!!! so lets move and begin to close this one down... over time of course....
scuttlebutt... I think Id approach this carefully first of all... has she called you yet? How do you know?? heresay or fact?? she will want to know.. also remember the Navy owns your daughter she can not just run off and get married in a few days.. It does not work that way! When did she last call you?? Get your facts together for her... she will need them.
I agree! I'm moving over to the Alumni site, because I can't do both sites. I have a hard enough time trying to stay awake at night long enough to read 1 or 2 sites, and I've been trying to help the boot camp mom's
I just found out that my daughters A school is put on hold until they have more people to make a class so they can start. She gets her phone and computer, she can use her phone every day after 4pm.......thats right..............she gets mommy calling or texting every, yes that's right every day. :)....
'm excited!! Today my daughter comes home for 12 days before she leaves to Japan. I know saying good bye to her when she departs will be the hardest thing for me to do.
Not sure how many of us are checking this PIR site but I wanted to let you all know that Wilson and I are getting married Oct 8th on our ranch this year and so excited. Our hearts will always be with you all who made our special day with my step son so much fun and will never forget. Love you all
Just amazing how far my sailor has come..he will be graduating f.m.t.b soon..Its been a long amazing journey so far. I am looking forward to seeing his f.m.t.b. graduation. He will be stationed close to home after.. hope all our other graduates have had the same success..Best of luck and blessings to all our sailors !
