Hi texasmom long time no see. Glad that your son is doing so well. You too TC. I am waiting to hear from my son but he lost his phone and the replacement phone arrived today so he doesn't have it yet. They are scheduled to start Nuclear Power School the third week of October but I do not remember the exact date he told me the last time we spoke. So I do not know officially that he passed since he did not tell me yet and will not until he gets his phone. I bet they will all be in the same class at power school. It is six months after PIR almost to the day.

Thanks mamawalrus! Looking forward to next week.

Today is 9 months since my son left for bootcamp and tomorrow will be 4 months since I have seen him.   Some days feel like they fly by and other days my missing him gets the best of me still.  I know I am fortunate that it's only been 4 months but it feels long.   He is happy, loves his job, his shipmates, his time on board the ship and the adventures he has exploring the island.  He says the time is flying so I am glad for that, and he's not homesick which is very good.  He has grown up so much in these past 9 months it's crazy.  I am so glad we still have each other to come to.
  • mamawalrus

Amazing to think 9 months but honestly it feels so much longer for some reason. Glad to hear he is doing so well...
  • new sailor's mom

    sure missing my boy today
  • battlebuddy

Dropping by to say....I miss you guys...

  • ame7

I agree battlebuddy, I sure miss the daily dose of love and support from this group/Navy family.  Boot camp was an anxious, uncertain and trying time (and I'm referring to us, Lol!) I guess we all learn to adapt to this new way of Navy life for our children.  Still, we all have moments when we miss them terribly and wish we could put our arms around them. {{Hugs}} to you....I know your guy has been away for a long time.

Hello all, my son starts Nuclear Power School this Thursday.  I would like to hear what your sailors are all doing now.

  • battlebuddy

    Hi William,

My son has been in Japan since May. He went to Austrulia in July and August. September he was in port then now he is out and underway who knows where....hopefully will be home on December 28th till Jan. 10th. :)

  • William in Nashua

That sounds like a lot of fun battlebuddy my son would love to be stationed in Japan or at least visit there.   Australia sounds great too.  My wife and I are hoping he is in Hawaii good place for a second honeymoon LOL.   Son still has estimated 1-½ years remaining  in the training pipeline at the current rate they are cranking out nukes.
  • battlebuddy

Wow...today is our Anniversary.......8 months since we left Boot Camp! Wow...it feels like Boot camp was easy right now....Japan is really far away...but he loves it there.....
  • battlebuddy

Please keep the Faragher family in your constant prayers. Their son graduated with us on 2/11/11 and was in Div. 069 with my son and several others on here. Kody passed on 10/5/11 and they are in the process of making arrangements. He collapsed while doing the PFA out in San Diego.  Such a tragedy to loose one of our Sailors at such a young age. My heart just bleeds thinking what they are going through. </3

    Hi all.

Battlebuddy, I just came here to see if anyone had posted the news.

Below is the link to the funeral home's website.  I'm encouraging everyone to stop and leave a message for the family, even if just a simply Hooyah.  I just know these messages will have a lot of meaning for them and may help ease their pain during this most difficult time.

KODY JAMES FARAGHER To leave a message for the family, click on 'Condolences & Tributes' then 'Condolences.'

    God speed!

2/11/11 will forever be one of my most exciting days of my life!!  My son too is in Japan since April and really missing him.  He is currently out to sea....first time!  So far I only received one quick email saying his days and nights were really long and he was missing home....but he's good.  He's out there until December.  Remeber when we stalked the mailman while they were in bootcamp?  Well now I stalk FB as the captain post photos while they are away and forever checking my email!

    But it's all good.  He's happy/I'm happy.

    Take care all!

    Cathy

Prayer for Faragher family. Navy family, let's commit to pray for the family of Kody James Faragher. Kody's funeral service is scheduled for Saturday at Noon Eastern time. I know we cannot be there in person but we can certainly be there in spirit. I know they need our prayers all the time but let's focus our prayers at the time of the funeral. Thank you all and God Bless You.
  • mdubtxmom(Ship 09 Div 069)

Cathy, My son is stationed in Japan as well. He is on the USS Shiloh, What ship is your son on? I hear you about stalking FB. I do that too. I watch my son's page and I watch the ship's page too. I have been able to find him in several pictures and it makes me so happy to find him. He just got promoted to Petty Officer and we got to watch his promotion ceremony on Skype. It was so cool. We miss him so much.
  • cathyo Ship 11 Div 063

Thanks, mdbtxmom, for the funeral service info.  I will light a candle and say a prayer at that time.

  • sailormommind

a lot of talk today at work about the holidays has left me feeling blue...Thanksgiving will sure be different and we are waiting for word on when leave will be in Dec or Jan.  We went to a family wedding a couple weeks ago and realized it was the first "family" event we went to without our son/brother and it felt really weird.  The last 2 months has been a strain with several family members and serious illness....don't want to bring my boy down but he will face some big changes when he comes home to some loved ones.  hope to shake the blues soon
  • William in Nashua

My son will not be home for Thanksgiving he will be staying in Goose Creek where he has many friends down there.  But he will come home for Christmas when the nuclear power school shuts down for the holidays.
  • adm60

Hello all--Sailormom I am sending you some courage to face the season as it comes.  Remember it can be smooth and happy just as it unfolds.  You hold the key.  Some sweet words by telephone may make the day complete...and Dec. or Jan. will roll very quickly to us!  Have heart!  Stay strong and safe.
  • meagan5220

Sailormommind My hubby and I get to come home for Thanksgiving but will be deployed over Christmas, Valentine's Day, and our anniversary. My Dad also missed countless birthdays, and holidays. My biggest piece of advice to make it easier is to not dwell so much on the day. I know its hard bc everyone gets so excited. I get excited to see other friends and family and celebrate the special days with my sailor later :) I remember its just a day we place the emphasis on it. Maybe you could do all the holidays again when he comes home :). I read a story abr a soldier that was getting deployed soon and his friends and family had a celebration for every holiday during his leave beforehand. He had a brand new baby girl so they dressed her up and did halloween. thanksgiving, christmas, and I think possibly easter just so he could be there for those special moments. :) I have stopped placing emphasis on those days he is not there and doing something super special the times he is. I think of Alice and Wonderland... the unbirthday song. :) We have unchristmas, unthanksgiving, unbirthdays, unvalentine etc. :) lol Thinking abt you and your family this holiday season
  • new sailor's mom

Just talked to our sailer....he is still in A school in Great Lakes.  He told me someone stole some clothes out his laundry!!!!!!  Unbelievable!!!
  • William in Nashua

Taking sombody else 's laundry is really low. Who is to say the clothes will even fit?
  • meagan5220

oh my!! that happens on the ship my hubby is on ALL the time! If you leave it out people will take it! he said this kid got some dirty socks stolen!! and he said they smelled raunchy! My friend buys her hubby all hot pink stuff so ppl wont steal it as much! They say there is only one thief in the navy everyone else is trying to get their stuff back! you have to watch out for uniforms people will steal those in a heartbeat!
  • mamawalrus

  • kimbas

Hi all just checking in.....my son had chosen to dor from SEALs and is trying to find his place now, he was very depressed seems better. Luckily for us we got a suprise he is home for 10 days during thanksgiving, woohoo...He will soon be deployed on a ship and have many questions about that but the main ones are can we get him anything he may find useful while he is deployed and any sites or forums available for that?  Many thanks, have a blessed holiday all!

  • meagan5220

Kimbas do you know what ship he will be on? My husband says they have very little room so he has mostly clothes and his uniforms, his ship will leave soon. but he said to send him candy, snacks, and little stuff to pass time and whatnot. My hubby works out a lot so he got an iPod but tell him to be super careful on the ship. There is a stealing epidemic. lol the sailors say there is only one thief in the navy everyone else is tryin to get their stuff back. Its a vicious circle. You can find a group for his ship I bet, also I am probably going to send cakes in a jar while he is gone. He said nothing to big is the main thing when I asked what he wanted for the deployment.

  • kimbas

Thanks much for the info, he's heading to washington, everette first then ship thats doing world tour and docking in virginia??? K doesn't sound like much to get him if no room, wasn't sure of mail, internet etc. Many thanks will check with him on the name of ship when he is sure glad to know there is forum for specific ships.....

    Thanks much!!

  • kimbas

Well he knows LOL the Lincoln?? will check for it Thanks, again :)

As a grandfather, it is so good to see the respect and support generated in this forum.  Being here for each other is a wonderful thing..  Both during the hard and good times....

Keep up the wonderful communication, suggestions and advise.  Working to support each other and our Loved Ones serving Our Nation, is the best work we can do....

  • angies

Hi Navy family! Just posting on the anniversary eve of my daughter's leaving for boot camp. Dec. 6 last year was a hard one. Bawled like a baby dropping her off at the hotel. She left a teenager and is now a woman. She will be home in 2 weeks and I can't wait! Thinking of you all.

  • meagan5220

Angie I am so happy you get to see her!!! So excited for you and your family and I am so glad I got to meet you! We will have to see each other again in Virginia! enjoy the holidays and tell her Merry Christmas from me when you see her!

  • angies

Meagan- I'm glad we got to meet, too. Tell Michael we are all thinking about him. I'm going to go watch the ship leave this morning. The end of an era locally. Hopefully we can meet this spring in VA and I'm glad you get to spend the holidays with your family. Thanks for your friendship  :)

  • meagan5220

Angie- wave extra hard for me! :) Thank you I will. We will def HAVE to see each other in VA. Thank you for your friendship! It means a lot especially with the last 6 months!!

  • BBWinthemoon

wow, can't believe it has been a year! I don't know how I would have survived with out the wonderful friendships and support, ( or how my husband would have survived my crazyness) It has been a rollercoaster that I never expected. I hope and pray that you are all doing well and your sailors are doing well. For those of you who I stay in contact with, You are the BEST!!! Each of you holds a very special place in my heart.

  • Sailor Collins Wife!!

Well a year ago today my husband left for Boot camp and here we are a year later and guess what he is out in the middle of the ocean somewhere on deployment another christmas birthday and new years with out him.. Hope everyone enjoys there holiday..

  • mamawalrus

HI all.. a year ago my son left for Great Lakes and a year ago, little did I know the journey I was in for or the great Navy family I would meet on here! Who knew this was even a possibility.  Thank you all for keeping this site going, I know at times there is nothing new to tell but if we can try to keep checking in from time to time, it lets us know how you are doing.

Again,, if anyone of you are interested in joining us on the PIR Facebook page, let me know and I can have the mom who started it add you!  All I will need is your FB name and you can PM me that or put it here if you are ok with that.   FB is more mainstream for every day stuff and we have about 20 or so on there and its a great way to keep in the loop.  Especially as our year PIR will be approaching us before we know it...

Kimbas...is your Sailor excited to start this new journey? It is tough to change direction but I hope he can think of this as a detour and have the chance to go back.
