Thanks for the info. I have a question-if we are planning to take a shuttle to PIR, do we need a gate pass to walk into the gate? I assume there is some point where they will be checking our names off the list-is that at the front gate or the entrance to the building where the ceremony will be? And if we have "extra" guests who will be put on a waiting list, where will they have to wait?
no you should not need the gate pass if you ride the shuttle. You need photo ID. There is a holding area for extra guests but I have never heard of someone not getting in if they had proper ID and knew who they were going to se (make sure they know the ship and division # as well)
You do need the gate pass though if you plan to drive them back on base after PIR
I started this group to be a reference site for PIR information. I deleted everything, so that we could start fresh. You'll note that I also deleted comments that I wrote. If you have some information about PIR that you would like to add, please add it to the discussions above, which I set up to serve as "file folders" for different aspects related to PIR.
Any information that I find posted in the Comment Wall that isn't already mentioned in a discussion forum, I try to copy and paste into the appropriate discussion forum. Please look there.

Life is Peachy, I just added the RTC link as a discussion. Maybe it will be more visible that way. It is a closed discussion, so that nothing else can be added. It's just for this important link.
Hello, I am in Great Lakes hanging out in our hotel with my SA. When I get home I am going to add some additional information that I personally learned from PIR. I hope that others will add some too. The best part has been just being with my SA.
My boyfriend graduates April 8th. Is there any rules about then not being able to make big purchases? We are engaged and he wants to buy me a ring after graduation. Will he be allowed?
YMM- Thanks for the info. Im not planning on getting anything we can pay for right then and there. I just want something simple and cute. He wasnt sure if he would be allowed to buy anything or if he would even have access to his money. I just dont want to get him in trouble. Thanks again!
I understand the 4 passes... and it is my understanding that anyone under 12 does NOT need a pass for graduation, is this correct? I have 4 children under 12 that are going to PIR, they don't need passes.. yes? Thank you!
Yea, I read it.. I am just having a hard time really believing that they need passes for 4, but then I can bring my other 4 children w/out a pass! LOL Just making sure! :) Thanks lady! :)
Before you enter the building where PIR is held, there are Navy men and women checking names off lists. I did not see what happened to anyone who showed up, but whose name did not appear on the lists with the exception of children under 12. If anyone saw this situation arise, please comment. Thank you.
I think I am going to go to DMV and get them all photo ids.. my 14 yo has one for Boy scout outings, and I just think it will be easier if the rest have it also.
Hi, I didn't see this anywhere in the discussions. But I saw alot of information about airline flights. But I was considering catching the AMTRAK to Chicago, its not really far from where I live. And I know there is a Metra Train that can take you to Great Lakes. I was wondering has anyone done it this way? If so how was your experience?
Hi TxLadyJane! Enjoyed reading your PIR story! From what I have been reading, it seems convenient to take the hotel shuttle in the morning! What is the situation after PIR however-very crowded/long wait to catch the shuttle back to the hotel ? I am interested to hear various comments!
Last summer, my youngest son and I took Amtrak from central KS to Chicago and on to the East. We took a small soft-sided cooler with snacks and drinks for the trip.We were not in a sleeper car, so had to sleep in our seats. We took light weight blankets, and wished we had taken comfortable pillows. The pillows Amtrak provides are tiny. Have a great trip!
I had birth certificates and SS cards for my two minors and they do check both of them!!!! All the adults needed were a valid Id or valid DL and to know your sailors Division number.
Please share any info or ideas on great restaurants to take our Sailor to after PIR, and fun things to do that we can get our boy back by 8:00 at night on Saturday. Yeah!!! Can hardly wait. Almost there.
