    Thanks for the information lemonelephant.

  • lemonelephant

    donnamae, you are very welcome.

  • lemonelephant

Marylou, that's not a silly question at all. Saving Money PIR Weekend within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) may help you some. Parents don't get any military discounts with the exception that some hotels in the area do offer a discount.

  • Navymom21

Can anyone tell me why I don't see the latest posts on here? I get them in my email acct but not on this page. Hummmm

  • lemonelephant

I deleted a few of my posts related to Phil on here and Colleen deleted Phil's post, so that is probably what is missing for you.

  • d2b2707

Wondering: are PIRs always scheduled on a Friday? My daughter doesn't leave for Great Lakes until 7/17 & PIR won't be until September but I need to give my work notice. Can anybody suggest an estimate of how many days I should request off. And is it safe to say that my daughters PIR date would be scheduled the week of 9/16? It's so hard to get time off and not having dates is not helping...
  • lemonelephant

d2b2707, most PIR's are on Friday. The exception is when a federal holiday falls at the end of the week and causes it to be moved up. That happened for the 07/03/2013 PIR and PIR Thanksgiving week is always on Wednesday. Count 9 Fridays from the date of arrival to get the most likely PIR date, 09/13/2013, but then know that it could be the week before (more likely for one arriving on a Monday or Tuesday than for one arriving in the middle to the end of the week as yours will) or the week after if storms cause extra recruits to be shipped to the RTC that week. You will only know the PIR date for certain when you receive the form letter. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) for more on that. Since she will fly out to Pensacola for "A" School, you will want to arrive the Thursday before PIR and plan to leve late Saturday or on Sunday, but again you have to wait until you get the form letter to know when that will be.

  • TXGrandma5+2

I am a Grandma of a SR in Div 933. His graduation date is 6/28 and I am unable to go. Can someone please explain how to watch the live stream? Do other family have to be members of N4M? Can the ceremony be watch ed at a later time. How do I tell them to find the program? Sorry I'm not very computer literate. Thanks for helping.

  • lemonelephant

TXGrandma5+2, go to http://www.livestream.com/usnavyrtc on the day of PIR and it will be streaming live beginning at 8:45 am CST. They will also have it saved on there for later if people were unable to watch live or if you want to stop it to check out a particular Sailor more closely. That is an RTC site and is not associated with N4M and is in the public domain for anyone to watch.

  • lemonelephant

TXGrandma5+2, you will want to check the video from Friday's PIR at http://www.livestream.com/usnavyrtc and you may see your SR since Division 933 performed in that PIR. You may also catch a glimpse of him in the photos of the 06/14/2013 PIR posted at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151620825619651.1073741.... See 800 and 900 Divisions for more on the 900 divisions. I believe that Division 933 is a Triple Threat division.

  • DEVsMOM

  • paul2jack_ship13div312

where did the red dated PIR lists go?

  • Pam- Jared's mom

My son has PIR on 7/3 and he keeps telling me that he is the honor recruit for his division (he just verified that on the phone today).  I see on the website that there is a special ceremony prior to PIR for honor recruits and award winners and that I should have received a letter telling us about the ceremony, but I have not.  Does anyone know how to get information?

  • lemonelephant

Pam, the RTC will post the names of the Honor Recruits on Monday at http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/honor_grads.asp. If you find his name there on Monday and you have not received a letter, then email the PAO at rtc.pao@navy.mil.and ask for additional information. See Honor Recruits, Award Winners and Flags for more information.

  • evetnaz_CV Mom

When are PIR groups listed. Mine is PIR: June 23, 2013? Maybe I'm just anxious ..

  • lemonelephant

evetnaz, the group for the 08/23/2013 TG will be created when someone gets the form letter. You have indicated that you received the info from the recruiter; so when you get the form letter let us know and ellen or FTLW will get the group going.

  • ManCubMama

Got the letter!! PIR date 8/23/13. Anyone else??

  • lemonelephant

ManCubMama, the 08/23/2013 PIR group should be up later today; keep checking PIR 08/23/2013 TG 41 and join once it is up.

  • paul2jack_ship13div312

Yes my son PIR aug 23 ship 13 div 312. Who else let's all start planning can't wait!
  • terriopt ship 13 div 322

How do you know what PIR date if you've not received the letter/box yet?

  • lemonelephant

terriopt, some people get the info from the recruiter. We strongly advise not to send letters before getting the form letter, except when it has been at least 2 weeks since the recruit arrived at the RTC and then be sure to double-check the address against those at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp.

  • jnatelb6

Just got back from a fabulous weekend with my SR.  PIR was unbelievable!!!  Just for information to all new parents and parents wanting information about PIR or bootcamp.... look for Sarge's information and read his Pertinent Information about PIR, and go to his Meet and Greet the day before you SR graduates.  Everything Sarge told us was right on... and very, very, very helpful information.  We knew so much more than some of the other parents.  Thanks Sarge.

  • lemonelephant

See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend and there is info from Sarge in a info at the top.

  • lemonelephant

jnatelb6, what is your Sailor's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups on here for most of the ratings and/or "A" Schools. You may also want to check out Women in the Navy, Mom’s of Navy Daughters, and Mom's of Daughters 2.

  • MaureenK

Any ideas on graduation gift at PIR?

  • lemonelephant

MaureenK, the Page, Gift Ideas for PIR, within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will have some ideas for you. I invite you to join that group while you are there and to check out the other Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) as well. Since you future Sailor will be shipping in August, join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in AugustBe sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC.

  • rja

Ship 14 Div 318, PIR 23-AUG-2013 Is your recruit in the same Ship?

  • lemonelephant

rja, join the group, PIR 08/23/2013 TG 41, to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR.  Know that Divisions 317 and 318 are brother divisions and train together and will have Battle Stations-21 together, so look for others with loved ones in either division.  There will later be a discussion within that group for the two divisions.

  • amom3

Do you get to visit with your SR at the Sarge's meet and greet?

  • lemonelephant

amom3, no, the M&G's are for loved ones of the new Sailors to meet each other. The first time you will see your new Sailor is at PIR.

  • Mommyto2sailors

My son arrived on the 27th and we heard from the recruiter that he is Ship 13 Div 321 with a PIR date of 8/30 just for reference. PIR 8/23 ends before Div 321.
  • paul2jack_ship13div312

FYI just saw on the navy grad site that TG 41 and 42 are permitted 4 guests each!!!

  • patwigton

Does anyone know whether the sailors get liberty on Friday after the PIR?

  • Navy Wife (Div 321)

Abel/Mom what was the rate you paid at the sleep in?

Yes depending on where there A school is patwigton they will be able to hang after PIR on Friday for a short while

  • lemonelephant

Pat, yes, Sailors have Liberty on Friday, the amount of time depends on where they go for "A" School or training. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I invite you to join that group while you are there and to check out the other pages (found under the pictures of the Members) as well. Also, check the comments on your My Page.

  • SouthernCalimom Ship 13 Div 333

I am way out of the loop. What is PIR, and where can I learn what the abbreviations ?
  • Bobbo

Hi SouthernCalimom. Welcome. I remember being just where you are. My son just graduated from A-school and is now a Navy Corpsman.

    PIR = Pass In Review

Its another name for 'graduation' because that is what they do...march pass in review. It reminded me of an old movie. Its quite moving and lots of tears in the stands.
    Hope this helps.

  • lemonelephant

SouthernCalimom, the Page, What does ??? mean?  (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology), within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) wil help you. I invite you to join that group and to check out the other Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) as well.

  • GrannyShip03Div271

SouthernCalimom, Bookmark that page!  U r gonna need it often!

  • Bobbo

I just thought I'd check in since my son just graduated from A-school (METC). I know it was hard when your Sailors went to boot camp...and PIR weekend (if you're lucky) goes by really quickly. My son is coming home this next week and other than the PIR weekend 4 months ago, I haven't seen him in over 6 months but it goes faster and faster. Now it looks like he will be in the general region for awhile. See??? Good things do happen!  ;-)

  • Zig's Mom - carmen47 14/307

    Help.. for pir 8/16/13
Ship 14 uss arizona ..DIV 307
Is it 3 or 4 guest. Too by understand the guest list change to
3 (three). My son said no its (four). 4
  • ellen0502

Carmen47, There are only three guests allowed per the RTC. I don't know why but the SRs have been given the wrong information in the last couple of PIR groups. The link below is the RTC website that shoes the number of guests.

  • shello63

I am trying to find the information for my choices of airports to fly into, and am unable to find it again!   could anyone help?  I know O'Hare, Milwaukee?? maybe?  Is there another?  I fly SW airlines and they do not fly in to O'Hare.  Thanks in advance!

  • Bobbo

Southwest Airlines flies into Midway, which is southwest of downtown Chicago. You can skirk traffic from there and it is much easier to go in and out of. If anyone is looking to fly out of there but needs/wants a good hotel outside of Midway, I give The Carlton Hotel a great referral. It is an older place (motel) that has been re-habbed. Everything is new in the rooms. Yet very INEXPENSIVE!!! And they have a small frig and microwave. The people who run it can't do enough for you. And it's right outside Midway with a shuttle.

  • Bobbo

Shello63, you will want to stay around Great Lakes for Friday night. If you are flying out early Sunday or even Monday (since your son could be there til late Sunday as mine was), then think of the Carlton.
