Thanks, Bobbo and lemonelephant for the info.  I decided to fly into Milwaukee and rent a car.  It seemed the easiest for me.  We are staying in Gurnee, and planned the whole weekend even though my SR will most likely fly out early Saturday morning.  I will be taking his girlfriend and my daughter to Six Flags, if time allows.  I hope, however, that I have some time with him at the airport AND by luck he will fly out later that morning or early afternoon.

  • GrannyShip03Div271

My Sailor (Div 271 completed BS21) said that Six Flags allows new  Sailors to visit free on the day of PIR.  Is this true?

  • Bobbo

shello, Gurnee is a very good place to stay. It's only about 10-12 mins. from the base. The mall is there and several good restaurants. The Point Pancake House is a Greek owned place that is great. More than just breakfast. There is a local ice cream shop there that's the same company as the local dairy.

  • NavyMomAFWife

My daughter is wanting her eyebrows waxed and hair trimmed. Can someone please recommend a place near by?
  • MJ's mom

I just received the graduation video from my son's PIR for June 7th and although it is marked with the correct date it is from the graduation on May 31st  :o(   Any idea who I can contact to rectify this?

  • TLC72

The recruits weren't actually given the wrong information. There usually are 4 guests permitted at PIR unless there are more than 12 Div's graduating. At the time the form letter and first draft of the guest list is filled out, all the Div's aren't formed yet, so they don't know at that time how many there will be in that particular training group. That's why they're given a chance prior to PIR to tweak the list.

  • NavyMomAFWife

Does anyone know of a way to watch yesterday's PIR besides waiting for the DVD? I hope it is online somewhere that I am not finding.
  • hlhart69

NavyMomAFWife- http://navylive.dodlive.mil/ i just check it and its on there. Good luck

  • hlhart69

Let me know if you don't find it!

  • USnavymom63

    Hi JemsIntelWife3

That is a very good question I would also like to know because my SR is going to.  I was told by his recruiter they usually leave the next day on  Sat either out of OHare or Midway airport.

  • lemonelephant

JemsIntelWife, the flights are scheduled based on flight availability. Most will fly out the day after PIR, but some may not fly out until later if there are not enough seats available. Only your Sailor will know his flight details and even Sailors flying to the same "A" School may be on different flights or fly from different airports depending on flight availability. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you make plans.

  • lemonelephant

USnavymom63, the RTC has added flights from Milaukee as well recently. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you make plans. What is your SR's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for most ratings and/or "A" Schools.

  • hlhart69

Does anyone have the Public Relations phone number? My daughgter didn't graduate with her group last week, but passed this week. She said I was able to come and see her this weekend, do I need a gate pass?

  • lemonelephant

hlhart69, If she is still at GL, then she will be at the THU, which is on the main base and not on the RTC, waiting to leave for "A" School or in her barracks if "A" School is at GL. You can contact the RTC Public Affairs Office at 847-688-2405 or via e-mail at rtc.pao@navy.mil. I suggest you email so that you have your answer in writing. What is her rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for most of the "A" Schools and/or ratings.

My boyfriend left for basic on Tuesday but was delayed by a plane so he showed up really early on base on Wednesday, would this delay his PIR by a week?
  • lemonelephant

kimbwally, you will just have to wait on the form letter. He may send it to you or to his family.

  • Navy Mom Chas

Thank you to the wonderful people who keep this group going.  It was very helpful to me while my son was going through RTC Boot Camp.  He graduated on 7/12/13 in a ceremony that was very impressive and I went to the Photo Lab and ordered all I could of the ceremony and just got his photos.  I'm waiting for the DVD and album.  They will all be priceless.  Goodbye and "Fair Winds and Following Seas."

  • Pilarcita30

Hello, so excited! Cannot wait until PIR. I am planning a road trip, with my father, all the way to Waukegan.

  • Pig03let(Bro is Navy Sailor)

What happens if the SR doesn't pass all their tests before their PIR? Do they graduate the next week?
  • hlhart69

    pig03let(ship3/div327)

Hello. If they miss their PIR date, when they pass their tests, they will do battlestations and then you will get a call saying that they are a sailor. They don't let them participate in gradaution. They just send them off to A school.

  • lemonelephant

Pig03let, Battle Stations-21 (BST) within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will give you additional information on what happens. I invite you to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and to check out the other Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) as well.

  • Pig03let(Bro is Navy Sailor)

Thanks everyone for the info. That is what I had thought, but both my parents thought he would just do PIR with following week.

Kim, Since Division 819 has PIR on 10/04/2013 I think you have misread the date, which was probably written "4 October 13" and PIR is 10/04/2013 keep watching PIR 10/04/2013 TG 47 (clickable link) and join once the group is up. The Page, 800 and 900 Divisions, has some important information for you.

What time does PIR cermonies begin

  • lemonelephant

paigesmom, 9:00 CST, but you need to be there well before that. The last guests are let into the Drill Hall at 8:45. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend within  Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) for more on how to plan your weekend. http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/grad_day.asp has the schedule, but the site is down right now. I invite you to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and to check out the other Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) as well.

    DIV 947 ...4 GUESTS :)
  • stacy37075

paigesmom - We attended PIR on 8/9.   By 8:15 the place was full.   We arrived at 7:00 and got a seat on the floor level in the very back row.  This gave us few advantages:  1 -we could stand up to see better pictures without disturbing anyone. 2 - We had a perfect vantage point our pictures.  This was key because our son was on the outside opposite the side facing us.  If we had been closer down or unable to stand, we wouldn't have been able to see him clearly. 3 - The concrete wall makes the bleacher seats bearable.  At least you have something to lean on.  4 - We got the best parking spot in the garage (bottom entry level near the exit), which was very helpful after PIR was over.  5 - The MWR line for purchasing items was quite long the closer it got to PIR.  We were able to look/purchase early on.

I know 7 sounds early, but the time really did pass quickly.

    I'm think 6am :)

my grandson ship 14 div 335 PIR date is 09-06-13,from texas is there any one with a loved one on the same date ?

  • lemonelephant

renee, join the group, PIR 09/06/2013 TG 43 - 11 Divisions (331-340 and 943), to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR.  Divisions 335 and 336 are brother divisions and train together and will have Battle Stations-21 together, so look for others with loved ones in either division.  There is a discussion within that group for the two divisions. You may also want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones).

  • Texasproud(Ship 11 Div 346)

My son's A school is in Pensecola.  How much time will we have with him from the end of graduation until his Liberty is over.  I'm getting conflicting reports.  Some say only from the end of graduation until about 8:00p.m.  Others reports say possibly through Saturday.  Anyone know for sure?

  • lemonelephant

  • CountryGirl

Velitia. Yes, you have plenty of time. Our son changed his the week before. Just write her and tell her if she calls.
  • lemonelephant

Velitia, she will submit the names for the Access list 10-14 days before PIR. Write to her and let her know who will be attending.

  • Evonne

Hello. My sons PIR date is October 18th. He will be attending A school in the Great Lakes. So he doesnt need to travel anywhere else. Can someone please tell me how PIR weekend works? Should I plan on going back home that sunday night? Or the following day, I dont want to leave him any earlier than I have to. Also will he have a curfew that weekend or is he able to stay with us the whole time?
  • stacy37075

Evonne - my son had his PIR on Aug 9 and he stayed on at GL for A school as well.   This was our experience.... Immediately following graduation he reported back and shipped over to his A school.  He and his shipmates agreed to report back 15 minutes after graduation to give them as much liberty time as possible after.  Check-in took a while and we were able to pick him up around 4 PM (he called us to let us know he was ready).   He had a curfew of 10 PM each night (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).  Of course we had to return him in time to walk back to his room and check-in etc.  We were his liberty buddy.  So that meant he had to walk to the gate to meet us and we had to go back with him to sign him in and out each morning/night.  His group was released Sat and Sun around 6 AM for liberty.   With that said.  He had a lot of housekeeping things to take care of that weekend.   As a result, we scheduled a 9:30 PM flight out on Sunday.   That way we would leave him at 6:00 and give him the rest of Sunday to finish his task list.  I was really grateful he was staying on at GL.  Other moms that I met with kids going on to other places for A-school reported that they had liberty following graduation until 7 PM.  I was thankful for the extra time with our Sailor.  Hope this helps you in planning.

  • Evonne

Yes stacey thank u so much. I did find info on here finally about that. U just confirmed it for me. Thank you very much.
  • proudmomof2

Hi, after liberty weekend what kind of schedule will they be put on come Monday after graduation.

  • lemonelephant

proudmomof2, it all depends on how quickly your Sailor classes up after arriving.

    Check your My Page.
