Redshel16, yes. See the suggestions in PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend. You cannot take photos outside while onboard the RTC, but you can take photos in the Drill Hall.

Tay, yes, the Shedd Aquarium is within the Liberty Limits. Sailors can travel within 50 miles of the RTC or the TSC during PIR weekend. Use the miles, not the time, when checking if a place is within the limits. Plan to do that on Saturday or Sunday when you will have more time with your Sailor since he will be staying in GL for "A" School.

Morning Navy moms.... I am asking for prayers from you all... Just got word from my son, he just told me last night that he won't be graduating 03/21, cause he got injured...didn't explain to me what happened....said he will call me for the details...he is in recuperation.  I feel so sad, cause he will leave his team for 5 weeks already...please keep him in your prayers and please pray for guidance for a quick recuperation....hugssssss

I am trying to make sure I book my flight to/from the same airport as my sailor. Any way to know whether they will leave from O'Hare or Midway? I really want to be able to spend this day with her without trying to go to 2 airports if possible

No, Sailors flying to the same "A" School can leave at different times and even from different airports depending on flight availability, See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend. Only your then Sailor will know her specific flight details and not until the week of PIR.

Just book for late Saturday or for Sunday and you will be fine.

So I think I'm figuring out my husband and I will not be able to attend PIR for my son since he only has enough room for his wife and kiddos….understandable.  Option two would be A school.  Is there a ceremony, etc. for graduation from A school?

Yes there are ceremonies at A school and generally the classes are small so there is plenty of room for everyone.  But if you want to attend your son's PIR you can ask him to have other sailors who don't have  family attending to list you on their list. We had to get several additional slots for my son Colin's graduation and it worked out well.  

Hi my friends!!! just received my son call today, and I felt so happy...he is in ship 4 recovering from stress fractures (legs), and told me he will be there for a while..God knows everything; he won't graduate the 21, but I prefer that he can heal first and have his PIR when God decides...blessings to all the kids having their PIR the 21...hugsssss

Recruits are no longer allowed to place additional guests names under another recruit.  Please don't ask them to do this as this can get them into a great deal of trouble if they are found out. Colinsmom, you can watch the live feed video of PIR if you are unable to attend. And, depending upon how far you would have to travel and whether or not your son is staying at GL for A school, you could travel to GL and be able to visit with him after PIR.

Sorry for the misinformation about PIR guest list.  It was allowed when my son was in BC a year and a half ago.  

No worries, IndyMom! I think it changed in Jan 2013, so it's still "relatively" new.

Hey everyone! My fiancé's PIR is in a few weeks and I was just wondering what we need to bring to base with us? My fiancé's mom said all I need is my ID to get in but I thought I needed to download a base pass also to get in but she said that's only if you're renting a car? Please help I want to make sure I have everything I need so I'm allowed to go in! Thanks!

Nicole_66, you will need the vehicle/gate pass from http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp if you are driving a vehicle onto the RTC. You will need a current photo ID. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend for additional info on how to plan your weekend. 

Has anyone started making there travel plans for PIR on 5/30?  Not sure which is the best airport/airline/hotel?  My son is an OS so I think he will be staying in GL for A school.  I'm just not sure where to start.....

My SR's  PIR is 4/25/2014. I have a few questions...

I printed the vehicle pass...am I just to print in my SR's information?

Do I also need to print guset passes from somewhere?

What is the site to get the ribbons?

Does Division 151 have a tee shirt?

So many foolish questions...I'm so excited to see my SR and meet so many mom's, wives, grandmom's I've met on this site. Only 10 days till we leave!!

Marilyn, yes, you must hand write in your SR's info on the vehicle/gate pass. That and government issued photo ID's for everyone on the Access List ages 18 and over and appropriate ID for those 17 and under (SS card, birth certificate, school ID...). So I have to ask . . . if we got sent the wrong PIR date on our form letter how will they let us know?  And then how soon will they let us know because I've made all my travel plans??

Any input would be appreciated.  Navy Lodge or Spring Hill Suites.  I don't feel like renting a car so I was going with Spring Hill Suites since things are in walking distance and they have a pool and thought maybe my SR would want to hang out for awhile before we go to a restaurant.  I'm driving myself crazy with this!

lemon well thanks for the info I was just advertising  the group for other to join there are not alot of IC sailors My son graduated last year and is now stationed at Coronado Island. Jana, it's good that you belong to the group for his ship; it will probably be the most helpful. The other groups sometimes have interesting info especially about the area.

Tracy123, the recruiter is probably correct that your SR is in that division and that PIR is 08/29/2014, but the new PIR groups are not created until someone receives The Form Letter because recruiters sometimes get things wrong and also we don't want to encourage people to get the address from the recruiter when the RTC has asked that loved ones wait on The Form Letter before sending any mail to the RTC.

Hi all, I need some help. My son in Graduation on July 18th in Chicago. I will need to have an entrance badge to get in, but this didn't come with the letter. How do I get this? Also the address of the graduation is not in the letter. Is it the same address that I have been using to write him? Would appreciate any advice!  

Hello Heather T, my son graduated 5/30 and he is in A school now.  When you got the letter it should have a password to print out the gatepass for vehicles to get on base. Bring your car ins and DL for them to see. Look up the address for Great Lakes Training Command. 3355 Illinois St Great Lakes, IL 60088. Go to this website has lots of info for you. Click on families gives you directions and info and the website to click for the gate pass. Hope this helps           .www.bootcamp..navy.mil

My SR says he will be going to Pensacola for A School.  Does anybody know how much liberty he might have after PIR?  I'm trying to figure out if he'll leave that same night, or Saturday, or something else.  Thanks in advance!
