This group started on 2/8/11 and we survived boot camp, laughter and tears. Now our recruits are sailors and headed in many directions, but we'll continue to support one another throughout!
My daughter had stationery, stamps and an address book with her when she got to BC. I also put a couple notes of encouragement and a couple of pictures in her bible and none of these items came back in the box......YAAAYY!
Good night everyone. Rest well and I will read about it all tomorrow. (secretly hoping to get my letter tomorrow like everyone else!) wait... that's no secret!
I know that my energy will shift when I get that letter because then I can start planning for my trip to see my son! I am so very excited and hope, hope, hope that today is the day!!
mumziepoo: Your explanation of the difference in a child being away at college vs bootcamp is right on! Since I have been on this site for over a yr, since my son left for bc then, I have seen so many ladies run to this site to say that their friends and other family members don't "get it." They all think it is the same as having a child away at school....or living away while working. So not true! It is the lack of communication, the knowledge that you can't reach them nor they you when they need you, knowing that they are under the control of someone(s) else, that they are in a grueling life-changing experience and can't even call home to vent when needed...it is truly a unique experience. I found that my parents, sister, nephews...didn't "get it" when my son was there....I needed to talk about him and the Navy...they grew tired of listening and wondered what the big deal was. It is hard...but that is what this group is for...because all on here "get it" and will be support for one another. I'm sorry to say, but I doubt your bf will even get it. But hopefully he can respect what you are going through and give you some space! :-)
Just remember, ladies, "A" School is so different because communication is back. It is a breath of fresh air for the new sailors after coming from bc and good for the families too. My son explained to me at the time...that "A" School was the gradual move to more freedom after bootcamp, and then duty station gives even more freedom. But they try to keep sailors from going crazy with too much freedom at once....so they are 'phased up' at "A" School with their freedoms. It is quite an experience! Mine has been stationed now for 9 mos so I have been through the whole progression of it. It gets better!
Oh yes it does get better. I still miss my daughter living at home. Heck I even miss her clothes being left on the bathroom floor. She grew up so fast; it seems like she should still be that little girl swinging in the back yard or floating on a tube down the river with all her friends. It is so hard to believe she is a grown married woman now serving our great country. I miss those times but I am also very excited to watch her grow as an adult and make her place in this world. And the phone contact is so much better now. We talk every day and some how it is different. The conversations are about different things, they last longer, have more meaning the changes in her from being in college a year ago to being in the Navy today is amazing. :-D
For addresses, someone posted this is how they should read:

Thank you MamaSeal, I was just getting real excited if that was our guys. Even though it would be inpossible, I was trying to see if I reconized my son, I miss him so. :)
Hi, My son left on 2/7 he is in ship 4 div 807 and grads 4/8. I signed up for this website with all the intent of participating but
when I found out my sons graduation date and realized that I cant go because of another arrangement I CANT get out of!! It makes me so depressed reading all of the excitement and comments that all the other mothers get to see their son or daughter at graduation. And to make matters worse my son is going into BUDS from boot camp so I don't know when I will see him. :(((
GIna, I do! If you want to privately email me on here his name, I'll find him for you and take photos and give him a big hug from you!! No names on this page. I sent you a friend request. We also can't post pics of our recruits on this website.
Well I got the address. Yea. But still no letter... But at least the stack of letters finally got mailed... Just wish id get that dog gone envelope....just one sentence from him would make my day.
From the recruiter, I asked the same thing that I didn't think graduations were on Saturdays he said yeah it could happen on a Saturday. He said they are either a Thursday Friday or a Saturday. I'm a little anxious to get something about my daughter's graduation. So I'll start the group and hopefully get the letter in the mail today to verify. Thanks for your help ladies :)
Yep you ladies were right the PIR 4/8/11....YAAYY! Got the letter....I'm ecstatic! She sounded good from her note said she missed everyone but things were good just a lot of yelling. I'm glad I finally know the PIR date and am able to continue sharing stories with a great bunch of great gals :)
So I am trying to make some plans. If graduation is on Friday, then I need to make plans to arrive on Thursday - should I plan to be back Sunday evening?? Anyone know? Trying to make plans without an actual letter is not easy!
I may not have the option because I have training the next week that starts on Monday. If they had their way - they probably want me there on Sunday. Do you know when the last time is to drop them off for the weekend?
It depends on if they are a Grad & Go and if they aren't, they have to be back on base at a certain time. I'll see if I can find the information. Any veteran N4M'S on that can answer this?
Yeah, Jajajo! Good news! I'm counting on my DDs being on 4/8, too, since she arrived the day after your SR. Hoping to get my letter tomorrow or Saturday.
What I have read is if they are Grad & Go and they are staying at GL for A School, you get to see them for a little bit on Friday, then they have to go move across the street. Then you can go back and pick them up to visit for the weekend. It is up to their individual commanders if they have to check back in every night or if they can spend the whole weekend.
If they are not Grad & Go, you pick them up after grad then they check back in every evening over the weekend at 8pm.
Sometimes if they are Grad & Go with travel, you will have very little time with your sailor.
Jajajo: Hmmmm...interesting. Sounds like they are "brother divisions" but which one is she in? Brother divisions train together. Go through BattleStations together too.
Yep, good job on the GradNGo info, ntz4laa! That's right.
If they are flying out, you should have Fri with them, but unless you meet them at the airport on Sat. and wait with them for their flights (which many do), that will be all of the time you have with them.
Hi all, I'm going to stop following this group, I'm afraid everytime someone posts it goes to my hotmail account and my IN box is overflowing. Please send me an email if you need anything. I'm a newbie here, but because I started this group, I'm getting lots. So glad most of you have had word. Would LOVE that first letter and the 3 week phone call!!
Did she have 121/122 as part of the mailing address? Usually there is just one division listed on the mailing address. I would write the letters exactly as she wrote the address for you in the form letter...and you may ask her in your next letter about it.
Thanks K. I looked back through the posts and couldn't find the comment you asked about the ribbons but I sent you a private message too. I do have pics of the PIR ribbons on my page, just click on my name and it will take you there, scroll down until you see the pics. I also updated the pics. The black ribbons with gold letters are the ones that the special op's (800 div's) usually get and the other divisions almost always get navy ribbons with their choice of gold or silver letters. Thanks so much, I look forward to making the ribbons for you and your family to wear to PIR. :-D
Anyone who is getting overwhelmed with emails: to stop them look on the right side of the page you are on and click on settings, on the next page click on email, then you can click or unclick the items listed to follow or not follow whatever you want. I was getting 500 emails a day when I first joined this group and I had a hard time finding emails I really needed. Especially considering I knew which pages I wanted to follow and was on them every day anyway. I hope this helps :-)
48 More DAYS Mamas! We're getting closer and closer to graduation, our first letter home, and our first real phone call!! We have 37 members and I know there are hundreds probably on this PIR date. If you have other friends who you'd like to join us her, post this link on your page. Have a great weekend! (Denise, wise choice! She's probably just overwhelmed right now!)
10 days in...no form letter and no mail; still thankful for just knowing his Ship and Division and for this site. I check this site right after FB! lol Question: Anyone know if the upcoming holiday on the 21st will be a light duty day for the recruits? How are holidays handled?
Most holidays are treated like a Sunday for the recruits. They get extra time off and and that means more time to write :-D It should definitely be a light duty day and I think those who have PIR today may be getting an extra day of liberty with their families. They are very lucky.
Thanks for the heads up on the email settings. Wow that is a time saver. Hoping I get the "letter" today...so a quick question after PIR those who are going to BUDS..do they stay at GL for Pre-Buds? And for How long?

KiWi: Not sure what you are saying...but on the address, it should be like this:
SR (last name, first name, middle initial)
Ship # Div #
Recruit Training Command
street address
Greak Lakes IL (zip)
Does that make sense with the info you got? The division number should have 3 digits (in the 100's).

The PIR is 4/8, most likely. I have never seen one on Sat. before.
