It is great that they have a holiday tomorrow YAY, but that also means the mail won't run tomorrow :-( I am back from a scrapbook crop for the weekend. We had a great time and I got a lot of Navy scrapbook stuff made for my sailors scrapbook. I hope everyone had a great weekend. I have my fingers crossed for you all to get letters this week :-) and who knows maybe they wrote letters today and will get to write more tomorrow.
  • JenSpen

When my son's clothes arrived, I put his carhartt coat down for his cat to sleep on it, she sleeps nowhere but on his coat, and of course I smelled his shirt, just to get his scent...call me nuts, but I did...LOL
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Jen believe me you are not the first nor will you be the last to do that lol. You should take a pic of the cat laying on his coat and send it to him. I bet he would love that.
  • otty (ship 02 div 920)

Thanks ladies for all the info on the fb pages.  I will seek them out!

Jen-love it!  I did the same sniffin'.  Yup, I admit it!

  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

I just got back into town and checked my mail.  My form letter came!  My DD sounds good~ the note definitely sounded like her.  She actually said she likes her RDC.  What a relief to get the letter!
  • otty (ship 02 div 920)

Yay ntz!!  Glad she is happy.
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

ntz- that is awesome that you got the form letter and that she lieks the RDC this early is very good.  She will probably be one of those who come out of bootcamp saying they love it.
  • otty (ship 02 div 920)

OK. It's been driving me crazy.  I'm trying  to find info on the airports, mainly Milwaukee airport.  But come to find out it is not in Illinois.  It's in Wisconsin!!

Thought I would share in case any of you are going thru the same dead end search.

  • otty (ship 02 div 920)

Let me clarify...yes I know that Milwaukee is in Wisconsin, but I thought there might be a Milwaukee, Illinois.

    Now I know.

  • jim'scupcake

Otty, you gave a quite a giggle!!  Thank you!  We have been online all day looking at airlines (got reservations on southwest)..car rental...and hotels.  Just so much to think about!!

If you make reservations at the Ramada~Waukegan...make sure you go to THEIR website (not just going to a general Ramada website) and click on the Navy Graduation Package Promotion, it puts the promo code right in the reservation.  The promo rate is an even better deal than a AAA discount.  One step closer!!!
  • mumziepooh

    From the Facebook Page:

Good morning Facebook friends! Today is Presidents' Day/Washington's Birthday, a federal holiday. Recruits are on holiday routine today. This means they have a half day of free time to study, write letters, shine boots, hygiene (meaning: a long shower), iron, and study some more. They're always studying. Even when standing in a line in a hallway, they all have their heads buried in their training guides.

  • Jajajo

YAAAYY!  I saw the write letters....can't wait!
  • Jajajo

Look under discussion forum view all for the discussion of your ship and div if there isn't one it's real easy you just click on start discussion above. Let me know if you have questions, good luck

Travel arrangements made! YEA! Thank you all for the tip on Southwest, no change fee. That was a huge relief...my goodness how do people afford the changeable tickets on other airlines! Now all i need is a letter! Happy Monday All !!!!!!
  • NavyMomofOnly1Girl Ship 9 DIV126

Just started a Ship 9 Div 126 group.  This is where my daughter is located.  Can Chad's mom find her way here.  She was out on Boot Camp Mom's.  Her son would have the same PIR date.  Hope people can navigate.
  • Jajajo

Can someone please help me with posting a link on another group to my ship and division discussion?
  • MamaMia

Sure, I think if you hit the "control" key plus the letter 'c' after your highlight your link, then go to the page you want to post to.  In the upper left corner is the LINK blue button, click on that, and then hit "control" "p" and it will paste in.  Hope it works!

Anyone make hotel reservations yet?  I made some...but am now second guessing my decision (Ramada) because of reviews online.  I, of course, want everything to  be perfect...ugh!
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

We have reservations at the Marriott Residence Inn.
  • jim'scupcake

Yeah...that was our first choice...went back and forth, back and forth.  At least I can switch, no problem. Too many decisions right now!
  • Cheryl

jim'scupcake-We made reservations at the Ramada also.  How bad were the reviews?  Thanks!
  • jim'scupcake

Just that "looks can be deceiving" , and several said that it "smelled".  Other comments too, and then some people really enjoyed their stay.  The management did reply to some of the negative comments.  Several people said they thought the AC smelled, I am thinking AC wont be a problem the beginning of April.  Go online and google Ramada Inn Waukegan reviews.  Again, just want everything to be perfect..you know.  What to do~what to do???
  • Jajajo

Anyone know the link to making hotel reservations?
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

I would have considered the Ramada if I wasn't in the Marriott rewards program.  I also like the idea of having the suite at the Marriott.
  • jim'scupcake

Was thinking about the Suites because I am sure my Sailor will want to have an entire box of Kraft Mac/Cheese ASAP after graduation...unless they change his favorite food as well!
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

Hi, Jajajo.  I think this is what you're looking for....

    http://www.bootcampgraduations.com/hotelsGL.html

  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

@jim'scupcake.....LOL...I could totally see my daughter asking for that.  She was talking about how much she loves it as she was leaving for BC!
  • Jajajo

Thank you so much!  I'm thinking about the Navy Hotel I've heard other people talk about it and it sounds convenient, we'll have to see.  I just don't want to plan to far ahead.
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

I have a friend here at work that stayed at the Navy Lodge last year when her daughter graduated.  They liked it.
  • Cheryl

Don't you have to be retired Navy or in the Navy to stay at the Navy Lodge?
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

No, you can make reservations for graduation.  You just need to supply them with the recruit information.
  • jim'scupcake

I guess, in the end, just need a comfortable place to visit and to let him rest...bring his phone and get directions to the mall!!
  • Jajajo

Yeah, and they look like nice rooms for 65.00 and some come with kitchens according to the website.
  • Cheryl

Great!  Thanks for the info.  We will check it out.  It's closer than any of the other hotels.

  • texasmom Ship 11 Div 179

I asked this in a different group but, does anyone know how the travel would be to GL in April? Flying is just so expensive for our entire family.  To bad they don't give discounts for Military families.  LOL :)
  • mumziepooh

Jimscupcake-when my son called last week for some security stuff, he said that the food was good at basic-and he loves to cook and eat so that is saying something. He did say all he wants is a cheeseburger or pizza though! I see a weekend of junk food in our future!
  • diannep

texasmom:  Some people actually take the train to GL.  The station is right there by the base. Maybe something to look into if you really don't want to drive.  Did you check out airfare with Southwest in Milwaukee?  Milwaukee is usually cheaper and only about 45 min north of GL.  Easy drive to GL.  No change fees either!  Not sure that they charge for luggage either, or it is cheaper than other airlines, I have heard.

I would think that by April, driving conditions to GL would be much better, but I guess you never know!

  • mumziepooh

Texas- not sure what you are asking but I grew up up there and it is not unheard of to get snow in April. Not common but wouldn't be big shock.
