jim's cupcake.  I went to the gibill.va.gov website, which was easier to get to through Navy Reserves.com.  It is a very complicated website and so confusing, but after much time and reading and reading, come to find out she will not get tuition assistance until after she is deployed.  In the meantime when she doing her one weekend a month she will get $337 a month education assistance.  That is a far cry from having 85% of her tuition paid for.  She is going to be devasted.  My SR will come under The Mongomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve (MGIB - SR).  Once deployed she will come under MGIB - AD (Active Duty).  There's other websites and NYS has info.  All has to be looked into, which takes time.  Mainly everything involves one hundred million forms.  She has to pick insurance from Tri-Care, too, of which there are many different options.  She is in so deep.

It seems like no one from Ship 9 Div 126 has gotten any phone calls yet.  My daughter hasn't called yet either.  I was hoping for Sunday, but no call.  I wonder if they just aren't getting the teamwork thing.  But, my daughter has written and has said that others did get the privledge of calling.  So, must be some from that Div have been allowed to call.  We all just have to hang in.  Thanks for the support from all of you.  It still will be a major accomplish for her irregardless of the tuition reimbursement.  I have to stay positive for her.
  • TB1983 (HM, A School, GL)

I have not gotten a phone call yet.
  • ProudNavySister

My mom got a call! He said his division is making phone calls today.  My mom said he sounded great!  He said he is getting our letters, and wrote us all letters yesterday.  He took my number so hopefully I'll get a call at some point :)
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

Just got off the phone with mine, too!  I guess my call on Saturday was a special earned call.  Hopefully, everyone has received one now.

  • MamaMia

Howdy  I have been defrosting in FL for a week and heading back to snow country in the AM :-(  How many of you have heard via PHONE from ship 4 Div 807?  I sure hope there are some letters waiting for me upon return.  See you all in a month!

  • Bebe

Can you believe it, one month to go?  Time really has gone quickly but honestly this has been the hardest thing I've ever been through as a mom...I felt such relief just hearing my SR's voice..we may have talked 10 minutes but it felt like forever...

I hope and pray those that haven't received a phone call do so...you will, don't give up.

  • Bebe

ICsailorgirl...my SR said about the same thing...I just want to get through this...were his words.

    How beautiful graduation will be....

  • Ladybug<3

I got my phone call today!! :D I was so happy to finally talk to him! He sounds like he is doing good. I can't wait for PIR!!!
  • justin'smom

So happy to hear from my SR today!  He seems to be doing well~  I can't wait until they're all done with battlestations and we are all at PIR!  I hope the next 4 weeks go quickly!
  • Cheryl

Happiest of days.  Received the long awaited phone call from my SR.  He is doing well.  Can't wait for PIR!  Did you know that they take 45 minutes off your phone card if you use a pay phone?
  • NavyMomofOnly1Girl Ship 9 DIV126

I got my call!!!!!  She called me at the office, but I was home.  There was an ice storm in the Great Northeast today.  She sounded like she was going to cry.  She was so worried when I wasn't at work that she wouldn't be able to talk to me at all after all this time of finally getting the privilege to call.  Her division "earned" a flag, which they get to carry at graduation.  She says that division 125 is on the other side of where her "ship" is and that div 125 & 126 for the guys are accross the hall.  She has gotten all of my letters dated up to 3/1/11.  I have since sent an encouragement card and a thank you card to her shipmates who helped her when she was having a hard time.  Also wrote another letter.  So, she knows we are coming out to graduation, with her boyfriend, too.  She called him, too, but he was at work and by the time he got to answer his cell phone, it was too late.  She had hung up.  He tried calling that number, too, but would not let him get through.  She wants to chill at the hotel.  Wants her laptop to check e-mails.  Other positive words were exchanged in that she is halfway there!!!!  Lots more training coming up.  The really hard parts, too.  The gas mask, putting out fires, plugging water coming into a ship.  The real practice part of Battleship Stations, the final.  Hope everyone gets their calls soon.  So thankful that I got mine.
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

Yeah!  Everyone sounds sooo happy!  So glad to get our calls.

Yes, Cheryl87, I had heard the connection charge for the pay phones was high on the calling cards.  I purchased one with 700 minutes before she left from Costco for $20.

  • texasmom Ship 11 Div 179

I know that I am not on here very often because, I work such long hours but, it seems so strange to me that there are only like two moms on here that have sons on Ship 11 Div 124.  and we have like 85-90 moms all together here.  :) I heard from my son Friday and we talked for 40 min.  I was so excited to talk with him.  He has been injured, but, is back to full duty.  Does anyone know if that would hold him back from PIR 4/8/11?
  • jim'scupcake

NavyMomofOnly1Girl.  So glad you got your call!  From your post earlier today...I was thinking of you over the weekend.  Although not the answers that you wanted, I am glad that you were able to start to get answers. I dont think you said~or I didnt see....what is studying at school?  Again, I hope everything will turn out just fine.

The "kids" are all 1/2 way there...good for them and good for us!!  I hope to meet you at the meet and greet.

  • NavyMomofOnly1Girl Ship 9 DIV126

jim'scupcake.  Do you mean studying at college or her technical training?  She is going to Master of Arms training at San Antonio after boot camp.  She is studying Graphic Design in college.  She took Interior Design her first year at college, but since the housing industry and construction in general is kind of down, she changed majors.  One certainly doesn't have anything to do with the other, does it?
  • diannep

texasmom:  If he is fully recuperated, no...that should not hold him back.  If they feel he needs extra time to heal from an injury, they may asmo him (set him back) unti he is well, but sounds like he is doing fine!

  • diannep

They can be setback for illness and injury also, ICsailorsgirl.  Shin splints is a very common injury in bc that sets some back.

  • texasmom Ship 11 Div 179

Thank you to all who responded.  He was off for the injury for a week and then off three days for the teeth but, he did say he passed a test of some sort and then he said he would have to do the swim test but, had not done that yet.  So maybe he will be able to catch up and still graduate on time.  :) I hope so.
  • diannep

Sounds like that is the case, texasmom.  Had he been asmoed, you would have been called with his new PIR date.
  • jim'scupcake

NavyMomofOnly1Girl...sounds very well rounded!  What an interesting mix.  My son had really wanted to go with MA, but it was a longer wait when he had signed up, so he went with something else.  Sounds like she will be a very busy young lady (oops..Sailor~or part time Sailor).
  • SR Mom Ship 11 Div 124

@ Texasmom I was wandering the same thing too.  My SR said Ship 11/124 has 80-81 SRs...go figure.
  • Gigi (Ship 11 Div 128)

I can't wait to see my baby boy :)  I'm sooooooo excited! It will be here  so soon!
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

ICsailorsgirl ~ My SR said the same thing when I was on the phone with her.  She said the RDC said "nobody better be crying!".  I just started laughing!

Too funny about the eHarmony joke!

  • Debi (Ship 9 Div 126)

Hi Denise, well my son called today, and he told us that he had two wisdom teeth taken out last week! We didn't know anything about it. I thought that he might have needed them out, but figured the would wait until "A " school! Well they didn't, our SR said that some guy just held his head back and the just yanked 2 of them out! My poor baby, I hope that you and everyone else in your div gets a call from your recruit tomorrow, God Bless all of our recruits and their families
  • five10fevr(HM school)

My son told us Saturday he got all his wisdom teeth pulled on Tuesday and got two days of bed rest. He slept alot. They gave him 6 vicoden and then switched to motrin and still needed it Saturday. We had NO idea this was going to happen.
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

I've heard that they LOVE to take out wisdom teeth in BC.  They'll take care of any dental issues while they are in BC.
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

Found this information regarding HM A-School on corpsman.com.  Sounds like a 50/50 chance for HMs in GL or SA.

"The final class at Great Lakes is scheduled to convene on 13 April. The Navy and Air Force consolidated Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program will launch on 18 April at the Medical Education and Training Campus, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX."

Lots of other info in there about the new facility.

    http://www.corpsman.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/AOTC103.pdf.pdf

  • mumziepooh

They take out the wisdom teeth and do all the other dental work is to avoid someone having a huge issue come up with infection and all when they are on tour and no dentist is available.  Happily, we don't grow those things!  And my son had no cavities - he said he was tempted to ask for a sucker after the dentist appointment - happily he thought better of it!
  • sandy (ship 9 DIV. 126 ) PIR 4/8

JessicaB-sailor mom... what kind of a smell does theRamada have? thats where we are staying...
  • nursemom (Lisa)

My son had his teeth cleaned and said he was hoping to get a few more minutes in the chair because they had a television.  He was happy to catch up some news while he was sitting there.

He also had to receive his immunizations again.  Even though he had his immunization record he did not take it with him to medical.  They would not let him go and get it so, he had to receive all + peanut butter.  Said his butt hurt for days.  He also has chest congestion right now.  Said the place is really cruddy (sickness).  Hopefully the Penicillin they put in that shot will keep the superbugs away.

  • sandy (ship 9 DIV. 126 ) PIR 4/8

ok... its so funny that i now check here before FB and i talk with people in the groups and chat more than my fam. and they live in the same city as i do...and i don't see them.   lol    have a good day navy fam.
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Good morning navy friends :-) I hope you all are having a good week so far.  It seems lots of SR's are having wisdom teeth pulled. My daughter did as well. They make them stay in their bunk for a couple of days so that gives them extra time to write. But her div got to make a surprise call home on the way back from chow and my sailor missed the call because she was confined to her bunk. She was fuming mad lol. She wrote that there was no reason for her to not get to call. She couldn't each much but she could walk and talk just fine. There was like 6 pages of ANGER lol. She did get to make her before I got the letters and she warned me i would have a lot of complaining to read. I was so happy for the call and very happy for 6 pages of complaining lol.
  • Ladybug<3

    Morning all! :)

My SR also said he got his wisdom teeth pulled, said it was very painful but he got two days of down time and was greatful for that! I was told now there will be no calls until I'm a sailor call. So now I am hoping my cell doesnt ring because if it does, it will probably mean bad news! lol hope everyone has a good day!!

  • ProudNavySister

My brother said they told him he will have his wisdom teeth pulled when he gets to Groton, but he did get a filling yesterday.
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

30 days left, you could still get a "good" call. This is usually the time they can earn calls for doing well on inspections and tests. So don't panic if you do get a call. :-)
  • Ladybug<3

haha oh ok, thanks Lala!! good to know!! ..then I hope he earns a "good" call!! :D
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

MyHeart, You absolutely could get an extra call or two.  My SR earned a 5 minute merit call Saturday night, then I got the longer call on Monday.

ProudNavyMom, I'm glad my SR had hers already removed, too!  The only good thing would have been that her BFFs husband is a HM Dental Tech at GL and she could have seen him.  She said that she asks all the SRs when they get back which tech worked on them.

nursemom - That's too funny about the TV.  That's a hard way to get your fix! ;)

  • DBO

I have worked in a dental office for 20+ years and my husband is a dentist. Having read the various comments,  I can assure you that our son's and daughter's are receiving the highest standard of dental care available.  In fact I suspect that many of theses young people are receiving much needed dental care that would not have otherwise been affordable for them.  Oral surgeons and oral surgery residents (who are most likely the ones doing third molar extractions) have completed dental school and then in addition are trained in the specialty of oral surgery.  Hope this info helps ease some minds.

  • DBO

Our SR ship 2 div 921 called us yesterday afternoon.  WOW how he has changed! He is extremely busy but loving ever minute of it.  Getting to watch our young men and women mature and grow in every way certainly boosts the pride we all feel as parents.

By the way, if you are having a hard time hearing your SR when they call put your phone on speaker.  That should help.

  • Debi (Ship 9 Div 126)

Sandy, I know what you mean about checking my Navy Mom family instead of checking FB, One of my friends said to me the other day, where have you been! I just told her that I am online with my Navy Mom family!

  • Debi (Ship 9 Div 126)

DBO thanks for thr info< I kind of figured that It was a reputable Dentist taking out wisdom teeth, my son isn't really a dentist fan anyway!
  • justin'smom

I received my blue star flag last week.  Waiting until PIR is completed to display it!
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

My blue star flag came last Thursday.  Can't wait until I get the "i"m a sailor" call to put it in the window!
