This group started on 2/8/11 and we survived boot camp, laughter and tears. Now our recruits are sailors and headed in many directions, but we'll continue to support one another throughout!
Denise: I think there is an issue with that website as it did that to me last week too. The phone number is the best way! They can even fax you a form or email you one.
I don't think you can "preview" the division flag emblem unless you receive something from your SR, like a drawing. They are usually a surprise for the parents...sometimes the SRs order shirts for their family with the divison emblem on them. Yes, every division has an emblem (used on the flag, tshirts, hoodies). It is designed by the SRs themselves. Pretty neat!
I am pretty sure the shirts can be ordered while you are at PIR, or maybe they a have some there for sale. It seems like I ready that once those are gone you can't get them but don't quote me on that.
nts4laa,,,I will butt in..if you search the site for questionnaires...you will find them. They are just a fun thing to send your SR, in a SASE (makes sure he/she will return them). A bunch of questions (over 3 different letters) that just require quick answers from your SR. Fun. When I talked to mine yesterday, he said he got one of the ones that I sent and has mailed it back.
Texasmom, so sorry to hear about your son. It will hopefully just be a temporary setback. What is 30 days in the big picture of his whole life? He has plenty of time to recover and move on. Things will get better. Send lots of get well and encouragement cards. When my daughter wrote me a letter and told me about a melt down she had one night when things just went all wrong, when she was so totally exhausted emotionally and physically that she had a panic attack and her shipmates had to help her calm down, I sent the girls a thank you card and told them how much I appreciated their helping my SR. He will have the support of fellow shipmates, too. Hang in there.
Good evening to all, I have been catching up on all the notes today. Wow, everyone was so busy today. I have been so busy at work, I am just now being able to get on line. First I would like to start by saying Thank You all so very very much for all the encouragement and prayers. I also asked for prayer for him tonight at church. I know all will be for the better. And yes, as navymomofonly1girl says, 30 days in the big picture is not very long. I do want the best for him and I understand that they have the best there in GL. So I am sure he is in good hands and maybe this is just what is needed to get him strong again. Thank you all again, and may God bless each of you and your SR's. It is truly a blessing that we have young men and women that choose to protect our freedom.
Go to the discussion forum above and click view all. You'll find them there. I've sent them to my daughter and she's sent them back. It's been a great way to communicate :)
Debi...incase you are still online and didnt figure it out: Above under "discussion forum" click "view all", currently the questionnaires are the last thing listed on "page 2" Good Luck...I know it is confusing!!
Thanks , I finially found the questioneres on page 2! Haha, Then it took me anouther 10 minutes to figure out how to print them, I don't use micrsoft office very often, I guess I will never work in an office, better stick to hair! I did check out some of the questions, this seems like it will be fun for him, Thanks again
I just added another questionnaire in the discussions above. It is a little different than the others. It has a paragraph of encouragement in it that is great for the half way mark of bootcamp. I added it in a way that you can just copy and paste it and print it off. You don't need a specific program for it to open. You will want to tweak it a little bit to suit your recruit, especially since my Sailor is a girl :-)
Yay! Letter day! My son wrote that when they finally told him he could make the call, he couldn't get back to the letters with my cell # on it (I was away on vacation) and then he rubbed the PIN # right off his phone card!! I guess he has been really working out! Said they won't get another call till April so he was pretty bummed out. Doing well though and said after he moves (4-5 hrs) on Sat. he'll have the rest of the weekend free(PIR). Too bad my flight is after lunch on Sunday :-(. His div gets up at 4;30AM so one night he went to bed at 10 and up at 2-4 and it made for a LONG day. Any news from your recruits??
No battlestations is like their final exam and will happen the end of week 7 ~ beginning of week 8. Its the last thing they take care of before graduation. I think hell week is when they work on fire fighting and gas chamber, etc.
Kiwi- I'm sure they have maneuvers they do in situations like this. I think they turn the boat a certain way to lessen the impact. I have a friend who is headed to Guam right now.
Just an FYI...RTC is letting the SRs know about the tsunami and is letting any of the SRs call home that may have family members affected. My sis lives in Honolulu and my SR just called me to check on her.
·´¯`·.´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸PRAYER WAVE¸.·´¯`·.´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸ Going out to all those affected in the Pacific and everywhere else affected by the earthquake and tsunami.
ntz4laa, that is nice that they are letting the SR's call the check on their loved ones that may have been affected by the tsunami. I was wondering if they would let them know. I just wrote about it in a letter to my brother as well.
I have a question: is there a proper protocol about giving a gift to our SR after PIR? My SR wants an Ipad (who doesn't). That's all fine and dandy but is there something more appropriate for such a huge feat...something with a real significance and meaning?...Like getting through BC isn't enough LOL..
bcordova: Some get them religious medals (have to be small and only silver or white gold...no yellow gold), watches (black or silver), etc. But the Ipad sounds like a great gift! Just remember that none of the electronics can be taken back to RTC, so they must take possession of them after they are off of RTC.
diannep~thanks so much. I love the idea of the religious medal. I have a jeweler who can find me just about anything. We might get him the ipad when he finishes A-school (in Pensacola). That'll be a whole new learning experience for me...I wouldn't know how to get the Ipad to him after RTC...and really want to give him a gift at PIR.
