This group started on 2/8/11 and we survived boot camp, laughter and tears. Now our recruits are sailors and headed in many directions, but we'll continue to support one another throughout!
mumzie- I am not sure what pics you saw either. But if it is not the flag carriers like Craig said here is another suggestion. At PIR the drill team has to tuck in their shirts and wear the belt and tuck in the pants and boots to keep the gun from getting caught on the their clothes. If neither of us are right then maybe you can tell us what pics you saw lol.
Lala - I bet what she means is the RPOC means Recruit Petty Officer in Charge. The RPOC aways wears the white belt to set him different than the regular sailors. The belt is used to hold his cutlass (sword). Without his belt, he may end up cutting off his own sword.
Recruit Petty Officer In Charge (RPOC)
The RPOC is a recuit, that is the head honcho among the other recruits. The RPOC is the primary recruit assistant to RDCs and is responsible for: 1. Maintaining good order, discipline, and security within the division at all times. 2. Ensuring compliance with standing orders and regulations. 3. Assisting RDCs with implementation of schedules. 4. Reporting any abnorrnal condition to RDCs, including violations of good order, discipline and security, when RDCs are not present.
Question: I got a letter from my husband yesterday. In it, he asked me to send a copy of the PIR/Form Letter to his bunkmates family b/c they have not received theirs.
Is that ok to do? Do I need to block out the password that is in it?
OMG - Craig you are totally Navy, aren't you????? LOL - I am pretty sure that it what it is - the RPOC. I figured it was something like that. Good to hear that the Navy protects all of the swords in their command.....
Yeah~letter day! SR is still doing fine (makes me feel so good...I can make it another week!). Really starting to make them work hard...but, he says he likes it. Getting ready for 4 inspections...a little nervous about that. And starting to talk about Battlestations. Ah~a good day for us!! Hoping you all get a letter too!
Denise- He is division 122. Im not sure if she will need a wheel chair or not but she has been having a hard time walking lately so we are planning on getting one. But it would be awesome if you sat with us!!
Letter day for me, too! I got 2 this week. She said they are starting to get more time to write, but the letters still only go out once a week. Yes, she mentioned the inspections coming up. I had printed off a calendar of March and April and mailed it too and she said that was very helpful to put down the activities that are coming up. She did say that it was confirmed that the HMs that are graduating on 4/8 are staying at GL for A-school.
TB - my letter said "big news. They told us we're staying here for A-school.". This has been corroborated by a friend who is stationed at GL as a HM & RTCs post on FB announcing the final class at GL starts on 4/17.
So this sounds like we'll get to spend the weekend with our recruits.
For those that have someone in a wheel chair with them they will allow one person to sit with them on the floor area, it will hold 2 rows of wheelchairs. They ask everyone else in the party to sit in the seating unless they are small children then they can sit with you, depending on space available. If she is just having a hard time walking and does not have her own wheelchair they can bring her inside in one of the ones they have on site and take her to the seating area, then they go transport others with the wheelchairs.
KiWi I sent a manila envelope to my SR of cours ewith plenty of postage on it so he can send me all the letters in it that he hasgotten to make room ...:) he gets so much from me and his little sisters and other family so he said send a manila hahaha
If you have not sent the Encouraging questionnaire found in the discussions above now would be a good time to send it. It is great for the half way point of bootcamp or a little closer to battle stations.
LaLa Ribbon Queen - Did not receive my ribbons yet. Can't wait to see them. Did you get my message about the wavy looking flag as opposed to the square flag that I saw on FB. Cause I wanted the wavy flag to represent my other family members in the military.
Craig, my daughter is a regular six year reservists. Nothing was ever said about the other thing you mentioned (NCS). I don't know what that means. However, another thing I didn't know was that I thought it was four years to be called and two years inactive. Now, come to find out, it is six years to be called and two years for inactive. My daughter's Navy Federal Credit Union statement came dated 2/9 to 3/9. The recruiter said that she should have gotten paid by now, but the balance was zero. No one could tell me anything because I am not on the account with her, but other N4M's say they are getting thier pay. (The wives, anyway). So, what's up with that? Should some money have shown up by now. It has 2/9 Boot Camp Active as the date. If paydays are the 1st and 15th, then shouldn't March 1st have been in there if the statement date went to 3/9? Please advise. Thank you.
NavyMomofOnly1Girl, I have a joint acct with my SR that we opened when she was in high school, so I have access to it. She shipped on 2/9 and didn't receive her first check until 3/15. So, your SRs pay is probably in there now.
Oh, another thought, did you get a power of attorney for your SR before she shipped? If so, you should be able to get information on the account balance.
Her letter said BS for her DIV 121 is 6-5. I'm thinking 4-5. :) So I don't know for sure. Anyone else receive info from their SR'S about BS for DIV 121?
NavyMomofOnly1Girl - Thank God you didn't find anything that says NCS. I could tell you 100 horror storys about that program. Not one person I've talked to likes it, not one.
Most parents don't know this part of the puzzle. For active duty, everyone who joins does so for 8 years. Everyone. I know some of you will say "but my son is only in for 4 years". True, in a minor way. He's actually active duty for 4 years, but must do 4 years inactive reserve (ie total of 8 years). If your son is in for 6 years, then he will be active for 6 years, but must do 2 years inactive reserves (ie total of 8 years).
Per the pay, that is strange. Do you have a Power of Attorney? If would ask her for her NFCU pin number, then you can go to: www.Navyfcu.org and look up here data real time.
mumziepooh - I'm 100% sailor. I bleed salt, I sweat salt, the sea is in the veins. Those swords are fully protected, thus the belt. When a sailor can tuck his sword in his belt, he knows his day is going well. But remember "The Penis Pen is mightier than the sword".
Haha. Okay. I didnt really read what you said. Haha. I just was on the phone with his dad and was like what does 6-5 mean and he told me. Haha. I wrote it on here then read what you said! :)
Well I recieved TWO letters today, my SR sounds really good! I am so glad, their div got another flag, and they are getting ready for marlynspike- whatever kind of test that may be,but I think he sounds anxious to graduate and start A school, which will probably be in GL- by ths time in 3 weeks we will be in GL!
Haha. I asked my boyfriend when his battle station is but I went it yesterday so I wont know until next week. But he is div. 122 which is 121s brother division so Im assuming he will be right after 121. Which is perfect timing because I will be on spring break so I wont have to worry about missing his call because I wont be in class!! :)
21 days! Got 2 letters today and the one written Sunday said they were preparing for Hell Week. Hope they all did ok! Did you get the letter where they have to write the whole thing in "recruit handwriting", which is ALL CAPS? My son wants me to look up the best pizza parlor in Chicago-any ideas?
MamaSeal- yes on recruit handwriting! lol so far all my letters have come this way. The one for this week said that he was done with that because they arn't checking! haha, but it still looks similar. I don't now about the best pizza but I heard from a girl at work that used to live in Chicago that Giordano's pizza is pretty good. I am not sure where it is or anything though!
emilee: 121 and 122 will go together through BattleStations and they should be the first night. I'm thinking Wed Mar 30th or Thurs Mar 31st, but need to have an SR confirm the dates!
Since some of you are at the Marlinespike phase, Here are some pictures...
Marlinespike Basic Seamanship Phase
"I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast; for I intend to go in harm's way." -- John Paul Jones
One of the most physically challenging and motivating events in the training calendar is Basic Seamanship. The recruits will start with the basics of line handling and shipboard watch standing. The training will move quickly, no relaxing. By the end of the third day they will be tested on getting the USS MARLINESPIKE (simulated training ship) underway and back to port safely as a team. Successful completion of this vigorous training will put them one step closer to the final hurdle "Battle Stations."
five10fevr: That would make sense....sounds like 121, 122, 123, and 124 must be doing BattleStations on Thurs Mar 31st/Fri Apr 1st. I'm going to go ahead and put it on the schedule that way for now. Thanks!
NavyMomOfOnly1Girl-I did get that message and I have your ribbons ready to ship tomorrow morning. I have sent several orders for this PIR group over the last several days. The last of those that I have received the payment for are finished and being shipped tomorrow morning. Be sure to come back and post comments about the ribbons when you get them. I know to you all this time seems like it is passing so slowly but to me it seems like you just started lol and now 3 weeks from tomorrow morning you all will be there to see you Sailors Pass in Review. It is truly an amazing ceremony and I am so excited for all of you. :-)
Thanks for the Pizza suggestions and to Craig for the pics. Oh! now I need a great place for a big ol' steak! (His request, not mine). I'm sure there's lots of places. I'll be at the Navy Lodge and my daughter will have her baby with us, so that's a factor!
