This group started on 2/8/11 and we survived boot camp, laughter and tears. Now our recruits are sailors and headed in many directions, but we'll continue to support one another throughout!
Yeah my daughter said she'll be staying in GL. Others from her division are going to SA. She's counting down the days until graduation and can't wait! They have the gas chamber on Wednesday and their final PFA next Monday. Can't believe graduation is so close........WOOHOO!!
mumzie - Sadly, CTR's don't really go to "C" school directly after their "A" school. They usually go to the field or fleet 1st. This same question was asked on the Cryptology section about a month ago, so I actually asked the CTR's that I work with. They said that they are slowly adding new sailors to the pipeline and that new CTR from boot camp might now get a "C" school.
Everyone else - I have added a slide show in the discussion area about Battle Stations called "Battle Stations for Dummies". You might want to check it out....
Craig, in reading the description for MA, which is what my daughter is going into in San Antonio after BC, but she is a Reservists. So, I don't think three years at sea and the other on land will apply to her. Correct? Though, I do understand that she can be called overseas, i.e. to Iraq to guard an oil well. I would just like it to be later rather than sooner so that she can resume college studies. Any ideas on your take of the world at this time and when she could be deployed or is it all up to the powers that be?
Craig~ Thank you so much for sharing battlestations with us. They were really interesting. It gives us a little inside of what our love ones will be doing in just over a week.
Sandra~ I haven't heard from my son in weeks either. In his last letter he wrote he will not be able to call till April 1st. I was really hoping for an earn phone call this weekend.
Just realized the first 4 divisions going through Battlestations are going to be pretty wiped out for the Captains Cup on that Saturday. Good thing it's just a friendly/fun competition, hahaha. I bet some of them will be draggin their little butts behind them.
@ ntz4laa, Thanks after all their hard work it would be great for them to have some fun and a great way for them to shake off some of that built up stress.
Please read these guidelines and follow them as it is very important and you do not want to get your sailor in trouble. There will be people out in public watching to make sure the sailors are following the rules.
Liberty is ‘time off’ from the daily routine. Graduating Sailors will be granted liberty to go off-base during the day with their families.
Graduating Sailors may not smoke, drive, or consume alcoholic beverages while on liberty.
Graduating Sailors must stay within a 50-mile radius of RTC.
Graduating Sailors must remain in their complete uniform while on liberty. If they are engaging in physical activity or swimming, they must be in authorized Navy issued workout gear.
Liberty expires at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 8 p.m. on Sunday. No overnight liberty is authorized. Due to security checks and transit time, please allow ample time for graduating Sailors to walk back to their assigned ship prior to the end of liberty.
Families may not enter the base after graduation and will need to meet graduating Sailors for liberty at the main RTC gate.
Graduating Sailors departing RTC for follow-on training the same day as graduation or in a duty status will be granted limited on-base liberty.
Graduating Sailors receive an in-depth liberty briefing prior to their graduation day.
Craig- I really have to get used to knowing nothing about what my son is doing with this CTR rating. Everything I read is sort of vague......and my son will do very well at telling me nothing. Lol!
dianne - unfortunately, Mumz may have been more accurate about the hullicinating part. I think I have the flu. :0( Better now than the week of the 8th! I was asleep by 8pm and am now awake at 12:45am and catching up on post and scaring my kitties when I sneeze. Taking some theraflu and going back to bed.
Lil'sMom: Remember...those divisions go through Thurs night/early Fri morning for BattleStations...so they will go to bed by about 8 pm Fri night and should be rested for Captains Cup on Sat. Also, they get a very brief time to "nap" on the floor (not on the bunks)in their barracks during the day Fri....they get excited for Captains Cup so it will be a great day!
No clue...but they just give them a quick catnap so I guess they dont want them to get too comfortable! Remember...the floor is probably so clean that they can EAT off of it from all of their cleaning! :-)
Gina: Are you a member of that group on N4Ms? If so, ask on there. The ladies with sailors ahead of you are the best source of info on things like that.
Ragdoll, hope your feeling better. Yes much better now then for graduation weekend.
I think it is hysterical that they nap on the floor. That reminds me of Kindergarten. It must be a sight to see a bunch of big "boys" lying all over the floor. Glad to know that they will be rested for a fun activity.
You guys know I see all this Navy stuff in a different light compared to you Moms. So, I'm going to post this... Just to help the married spouses and GF's out there....(and to add some humor to this PIR group)...
This is to serve as a warning to spouses & GF: YOUR ROMANTIC INTERLUDE MY BE CUT SHORT!!!
This is weird.... During graduation weekend we went to the Jelly Belly factory. I ended up purchasing what they call "Belly Flops" which are the defect Jelly Belly's that didn't pass quality control. I started munching on those and about half way back to the hotel my stomach started twisting & turning, so we stopped at a McDonald's and I took a McCrap....
So fast forward. I was sitting there eating Jelly Belly's again and my stomach does the same thing. I started to read the package to see what would cause this, and guess what? Read this..... Wow...
Briefly coming out of my coma to review posts once again. Hey.. did someone get the number of that Mac truck that hit me?? I would hate to see how I would feel if I hadn't taken the flu shot this season!
Per the question why do the recruits lay on the floor, rather than their racks (beds).
- 1st off, they haven't earned the right to lay in their beds. They are recruits. Because they want these recruits to learn discipline they do stuff that just doesn't make sense.
1. Example: We have trash cans that have never had 1 piece of garbage in them ever, yet they are polished each night to make them look good. Another example is the tables in the middle of the floor at boot camp. Just try to sit in one of those if you're a recruit. You'll be hammered.
2. When in boot camp, the recruits will be in the uniform of the day till lights out, unless they are SIQ.
3. In the Navy, there is a rule that you will never get into your rack with your clothes on (underwear only). It doesn't matter if you're in boot camp, "A" school, "C" school, on a ship, or just about ready to retire, you will never be in your rack with your clothes on.
So, this is why the recruits have to sleep on the floor, because they are still in their uniform of the day.
See this picture, it's all propaganda. These sailors, look like they're sitting, and relaxing doing a jig-saw puzzle. Yea, right. the only jig-saw you'll play with is trying to rearrange your butt on your body after your RDC chews your butt for sitting in those chairs.
PIR LAST MINUTE TIPS: Make sure everyone has ID's (birth certs for kids without ID's) Bring at least 2 copies of the gate/parking pass - whether you plan on taking a shuttle to PIR or not, you'll need it to return your sailor back to base in the evening. Binoculars - trust me on this! Tide Stick Pen and a lint brush Tissue - self explainatory! Camera - and charger (or film) Cell phone - and charger Umbrella-just in case GPS, reservation numbers, maps you may have printed Husband, kids, etc (easy to forget those!) An open mind to how your weekend will transpire - remember, they will be tired, they will be hungry and they just want hugs! Bring your Sailors cell, laptop, ipod and all chargers to usein the room to catch up and if they are G&G you can give pass them on. A comfy pair of clothes for your sailor to relax in while in your motel room A sweater or jacket - it gets cold in the PIR hall Whatever cool ribbon or name tag you may have made for your Meet & Greet If you have room in your bag…a towel for your Sailor to sit on if you do go out and sightsee.
Best advice: Have fun and whatever you do, do NOT bring your sailor back to the base late. No one will forgive you for a long, long time! (If someone is late, they lose liberty the next day - and their whole division loses a couple of hours!!! NOT COOL)
ochaos, thanks so much for the info, very helpful, I think parking passes can't be printed until 10 or 11 days before, but great idea to print 2 of them!
Im so excited to see all ya'll getting excited about graduation. It seemed so long when we first started out and now it is only 16 days away. I know that my recruite is going to be a while longer but, the information that I have learned here and the encouragement that I have received here has been phenomenal. So what do most Mom's do once their son/daughter graduates from BC? do yall stay on this group and continue to post or join other groups? I would like to stay in touch with the group of moms that my son started out with.
Most sugar free products will cause this effect. From sugarfree gum to hard candy that is sugar free even the Russel Stover candies that are big on Valentines day or mothers day
texasmom - I will probably not follow this group any more and go into MA group (where my daughter will be going to tech school). This place has been wonderful and my life from the minute I come home from work. I think about my daughter all day and can't wait for the "I'm a Sailor" call to come. Nobody can believe how fast the time as gone. I worry about her and hope she is passing all of these final exams and battleships. Good luck to each and every one of our children - men and women at this point.
Yes Texasmom~how is your son doing? I hope you have talked to him, or received a letter. I hope our letters helped~if only a little.
I hope to stay connected here, if others are. I would like to know how everyone's experience plays out! Just imagine all the different paths that we will follow..and we all started the journey together!
NavyMom - I'm not sure if you have watched this video, but it is about a MA. This video kind of gets you in the spirit. Heck this video is for all ratings. Listen to the story, and I bet all of you will be able to reflect this in your own kids once they graduate. It does for me...
It is a wonderful video. I took Sandra's lead and posted it on my wall also. I had to laugh at how well he described MY teenage boy who I could not for a second think could be self-sufficient. I am anxiously awaiting to see how he has been transformed. :0) Thanks for sharing!
Craig great video. I can't wait to see the man the Navy is turning my son into...
ochaos thanks for the list...I'll print it out and use it as my checklist...you sure made it easy!
Craig if I sound like an idiot oh well...explain to me again CAC Card...I went online today and saw a CAC card reader...what exactly should I be looking for...I got my SR a small St. Christopher pendant (the personal thing from mama) and I want to get him the practical CAC card....something he can really benefit from.
Hi ladies, I am on this site now to keep in touch with you all for my sons girlfriend, My son just graduated last friday and his girlfriend will graduate on April 8th. I just wanted to tell you that we stayed at Americas best value inn and suites and they were very sweet and only 59.95 a night. Also we rented a car from Ace rental and got a great price and some very nice people. Make sure to mention you are there for a graduation. We get the special deals.
