Thanks Jimmysmom - truly appreciate the information. Congratulations on your Sailor! I trust the graduation went wonderfully.

bcordova - The Navy limits what civilians can see when they use the internet on the Navy website. They don't want everyone to know everything. So when active duty sailors want to look at duty stations that are available, or a wide range of other things (ie their medical reconds, dental records, their personnel file, their PFA test scores, future duty stations...etc) they can. All they do is hook up the CAC card reader to their personnel computer, insert their CAC (Common Access Card) which civilains call the ID card,  Once the sailor inserts the CAC card, and their own password, then the server knows beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they are talking to the active duty sailor.

Personnally, I believe a sailor without a CAC card reader is a fool. There is so much info they can find using it. A carpenter is useless without a hammer. A sailor is useless without a CAC card reader. It is an extremely powerful tool that most sailors fail to ues.  My nephew is already looking at possible duty stations, and he isn't even in "A" school yet.
    They cost ~$20.  Very cheap.

Go look at this link, I posted everthing about it.

    http://www.navyfamilies.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=17616

For those that have already bought these reader, and if your sailors have problems loading them up (which they shouldn't).   Here is an article that was in the Navy-Times. I guess this guy runs a help desk for those having trouble with their CAC card readers. My nephew said it was so easy to connect up, but what is easy for some, may be hard for others. It's funny, because the guys an Army guy, but I guess the Navy thought it was so good that they wrote about it....

Here's the article, and the website listed is www.militarycac.com

Good Morning all, the update for my son, where would I start, I waited all last week for the chance to talk with him because I knew that he would be calling on Sunday. or at least that is what he had said and wrote in his letter.  So I was so excited to see how all the letters were impacting him.  So needless to say, as most of you probably do, I practicly sleep with my phone.  I was away from my phone Saturday for 20 min. He Called!!!! Only had 15 min to talk. I don't know how you can loose your phone privaliage in RCU but, he only had 15 min so when he called back after 5-10 min I still was didn't answer.   I cryed for two days.  I know you all probably think, you sure cry alot, but, I was so excited to here from him this week to see how he was doing.  So, now I get to wait another week.  As soon as I hear word about how he is, I will share with you guys.  You are all wonderful and I only pray for the best for you and your Sailors to be.  Have a great day.
  • nursemom (Lisa)

Texasmom, I am so sorry you missed his call.  I also take my phone everywhere.  I panic when I realize I am without it.

Please send me a message with his name and current address, I want to send him a note.

Hang in there, I'm sure it is very difficult to be waiting and not knowing.

I just received a letter from my SR!  I am trying to figure out the date division 125 will be doing battlestations.  He said March 22nd will be training day 5-1, and that battlestations for division 125 is training day 6-5.  I'm thinking that means battlestations is Sunday, April 3rd for division 125, am I calculating this correctly?  If not, what would the correct battlestations date be for them?
  • diannep

kimberly:  He most likely is going either on Sunday night 4/3 or Mon night 4/4.  His division will be going with 126, their brother division.

I dont know but I hope its ours!  Except, that would be a bad picture to see if they were all puking and stuff...
  • jim'scupcake

ok...what is the picture of the day.  Is it a facebook thing.  I dont have an account, but my SR's account comes right up when i use his laptop.  If it is a facebook thing...where do i look?  I am obviously missing out!
  • diannep

jim'scupcake:  Just put Recruit Training Command in the "search" box on FB....and it should come up. That is where the picture should be.
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

jim's cupcake ~ Yup, it's a facebook thing.  If you are on your sons facebook, in the search box on the top type in Navy Recruit Training to find the page.  There they post pictures every week  (a photo shoot of the week and Friday's PIR).   Plus there's lots of people asking questions and getting answers.

Hoping some of our SRs are going through the Confidence Chamber tomorrow morning!

  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

Here's some interesting information about the "confidence" chamber experience ;)

  • sandy (ship 9 DIV. 126 ) PIR 4/8

126 are calling tonight! Just got a call from Sarah. We talked for 30 min.
  • jim'scupcake

It is me~"out of touch" mother again.  I got onto facebook, and see the Wall with 116 photos...(that mostly look like graduation photos)...where would i look for a photo of the week?  Thanks you guys...I think my SR would just laugh to know that I am lurking around on Facebook!

For those getting calls and letters...yeah!!!!  I am hoping my letter comes tomorrow, Thursdays seem to be letter days here in CA!!!

  • sandy (ship 9 DIV. 126 ) PIR 4/8

She is doing great. Talked about grad.pic. Girls got to use make up and do there hair. I asked if she had her BCGs on and she said no mom ...lol
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

Just got a call from my SR, too!  Confirmed that 125/126 will be going through Battlestations on Sunday 4/3.
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

sandy ~ yeah, I asked about photos, too, and my SR said she got makeup on her dress whites, so she's gonna have to take care of that.  They've done the marlinspike, too.  125 has a bunch of flags.  She said the only one that they didn't earn was the fitness flag.  I got side tracked and forgot to ask if by any chance they were going in the gas chamber tomorrow.  I guess I'll have to wait until after the photos are posted to check.
  • Ladybug<3

Got a call and a letter from my SR today!!! :) Div 126. He said they should be doing BattleStations on Mon the 4th and chamber sometime next week I think. He sounds like he is doing great! Ready for PIR and so am I.
  • justin'smom

My SR called and also confirmed Battlestations is 4/3 for 125/126.  Our blue candle will be burning for all of the recruits who will begin Battlestations soon!
  • sandy (ship 9 DIV. 126 ) PIR 4/8

Jimscupcakes... thursday is letter day here in NH too. and as for FB... i find that i am doing it too...lol
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

Oh..and those of us that have HMs.  My SR said that they've received their orders.  Only the dental tech's are going to SA.  Everyone else is staying in GL and starting A school on 4/13.
  • Zoey's Mom / Janie S11 D122

Aloha! So excited to see my daughter on the 8th! I was lucky enough to be available when she called! We spoke for 15 minutes!  the BEST 15 minutes ever! She's good about writing letters, and I send at least 2 a week.  She says it's so sad when the others don't get mail. Please families! Send your recruit mail! they live for it! See  you all in GL!  Janie
  • TB1983 (HM, A School, GL)

I got 3 letters today!  he didnt say the date that they will be doing BS.  But he did say that he would be trying out for SWCC on Monday (21st) I wonder how that went??  If he made it, then he wont be staying in G.L. for HM school- but I also dont know what the SWCC schedule to ship out is.

  • sandy (ship 9 DIV. 126 ) PIR 4/8

my daughter told me that she ships to san diago on 4/11/11 after PIR. so glad we get the weekend with her.
  • diannep

You all be careful about posting names on here.

emilee: Do you think that 2nd name you posted was a last name for the SR?  I ask because they are known by last names.  If you think it could be, please delete your post since we are forbidden to have last names on the site.  Thanks!

  • Debi (Ship 9 Div 126)

got a call from my SR today! Other than having a cold, he sounds really good, can't wait for 4/8, miss him so much
  • diannep

kimberly and ntz4laa:  You both said that 125/126 will go Apr 3/4, so that is what I put on the schedule.  MyHeart was told the 4th, but maybe her SR meant that was the day they finish and call---which would mean Apr 3/4 also?  So if any others are in those divisions, please confirm dates when you here from your SRs.
  • sandy (ship 9 DIV. 126 ) PIR 4/8

my daughter is in 126 and she said monday for BS 21. if that helps
  • emilee27kak

No. It wasnt his last name. My boyfriend said he wasnt allowed to give last names. So I know for sure its his first name. Thats what I thought at first but then he said "I would give you their last names but I guess we are not allowed to do that." So I dont think so.
  • diannep

Ok, thanks, Sandy.  I'm going to put both dates up top with questionmarks until we know for sure.
  • diannep

Ok, good, thanks emilee.  Just an unusual first name so wanted to doublecheck.

  • emilee27kak

Yea. I know. I dont know who his mom is though and my boyfriend wants me to talk to her so we can sit together at graduation. They are best buds he said! Haha.
  • jim'scupcake

ok.  I see yet another poor review for the Ramada (smelly) under the PIR Meet n Greet....I have gone back and forth over this hotel...and this has just made up my mind about where to stay, which will not be there.  Anyone have a quick link to the Navy Lodge?  Ugh.  I hate to try to change at the last minute...but, I dont want our trip to be ruined by a bad hotel stay (although, it wouldnt really be....as we get to see our son!).
  • Debi (Ship 9 Div 126)

We are stay at the Navy Lodge, 2 queen size beds and kitchenette, $65 a night, and  just 1 1/2 mile from the base- haven't heard and bad reviews so I am sure its fine , only going to be there to sleep and shower anyway-

Congrats Kimberly61 (PIR 4-8-11) is the winner of the scrapbook bundle from Unique Memory Makers drawing that was held today. Congrats Kimberly :-) For all the others who liked the page and entered the drawing your names will be left in and another drawing will be held when the number of friends on the page reaches 220. Good luck and tell your friends to "like" the page.
  • ochaos

Please do not use first or last names or dates of movement here, this can be read by anyone whether they are a member of the site or not.

I had a very good experience with the Navy Lodge.

  • Craig

cupcake - The Navy Lodge is https://www.navy-lodge.com/

You will be very happy you changed.  We lasted a day at the Ramada, and couldn't handle the smell.

Denise - Wow, a real Body Snatcher.  That would be the position I'd want.  It would be so cool moving around while everyone else is standing their.  That would be such a fun job....

  • jim'scupcake

shoot. No more rooms available. Now i am in a pickle! What to do...what to do...
  • jim'scupcake

Anyone staying at Homewood Suites...sounds nice, but is like 10 miles away. I was hoping to take the shuttle (staying at the Ramada), but certainly can drive.
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

Denise - AWESOME news!  Just hoping he doesn't have to catch my SR.
  • Craig

cupcake - I would keep your room at the Ramada.  I think you have until 4pm to cancel the room.  Then I would call the NavyLodge each day.  Sadly some recruits may not pass the final PFA and may not graduate.  Thus rooms will open up.

Secondly, not sure if you are using this as a vacation aslo, but what would be awesome (if you can afford it) is to go to the KeyLime Cove resort.  It has a indoor water park and looks really cool.  The hotel is $129.95 which includes access to the indoor water park.  Next time I go to PIR, I will be staying there....http://www.keylimecove.com/

  • jim'scupcake

Thank you Craig...read a few reviews on that..and unruly kids/adults.  I had thought of that first..we go to a local water park every year and thought our son would enjoy that...I should have done that a few nights.  I did post the same question on a couple different areas on Navy4Moms...getting good replys from people who have already done PIR.  Everyone is just so nice!  Why cant i just make up my mind!!!???
  • Craig

Guess what's coming up for your recruits in Great Lakes?  The RDC will make stupid faces on the other side of the windows just to try to make the recruits laugh.  If they laugh they will spend just a little more time in the gas chamber.  My son said he had fun in the chamber.  He was one of the last ones in, so he was toward the back.  He didn't get as much of the gas as those in the front.  He said it was really fun to see everyone lose it (nose dripping, throwing up..etc).  The CS gas tablets burn on a hot plate, each tablet is the size of a quarter.  They use 3.

  • Debi (Ship 9 Div 126)

Denise, So happy for you! He will be easy to find! Thats great- they are fun  to watch also, they really get in peoples faces!
  • diannep

jim'scupcake:  Residence Inn Waukegan is a great place to stay.  PIR shuttle, pet friendly, free hot buffet breakfast, pool, 2 bdr 2 bath suites if desired (studios too), full kitchens.
  • diannep

Denise:  Yes, your son will be "roaming the ranks" to watch for those about to pass out.  So you should be able to see him!  GREAT!
