PIR 4/8/2011 Alum Group!

DIVISIONS: 121-128   807, 808   920,921

This group started on 2/8/11 and we survived boot camp, laughter and tears.  Now our recruits are sailors and headed in many directions, but we'll continue to support one another throughout!

Sandy, there is bottled water there which has the custom RTC label on it. I saved mine because it has The Sailors Creed on it.

    Bated here Craig - haha

  • TB1983 (HM, A School, GL)

    aaahahahahaha.  Thats hilarious!!

  • sandy (ship 9 DIV. 126 ) PIR 4/8

ok, another question for Craig. if our SR needs a body snacher... do we get to go to them or do we have to sit there and watsh Denise's son drage them away...lol
  • Hunters_Mom_12/092_MAA

LMFAO ~ that explains exactly why mine asked to go to the mall after our leisurely meal.

While we walked around he was cracking us all up. As we went remotely near any young females he would say "Hi beautiful, my name is Hunter. Want to go sailing?" Or other clever quips. Just loud enough so we could hear and the ladies could not. It was so much fun!

  • Craig

sandy - When they start the PIR, they will tell you to remain seated through out the ceremony (ie make sure you use the bathroom before this announcement).  So no, you can't go with them when they are removed by the body snatchers.  They will pull them into a room located at the back of the line up.

The last thing I would worry about is a body snatcher taking your sailor away. Only about 10 people get snatched.  Like I said before, you will look at your sailor for about 15 minutes with the binoculars, then the remaining time you will look at the other sailors that are sailors that are kind of wobbling.  It's truly amazing to me to see how quick the body snatchers find them....

thank you Craig for all the answers. you have helped me/us with the questions we as moms/girlfriends need answered. thank you again
  • diannep

One person had posted that they caught a 6:15 shuttle so they would have arrived at RTC right as the gates opened...just like YOU, Craig!  :-)  But you are right...everyone has to decide for themselves.  I know there are many like you who enjoyed having their cars there...and many like me who loved being driven, no waiting in car lines, and getting right back out.  What to do????
  • diannep

...oh, and Craig....what time did you get in the car line?  Were you first in line?  I read a blog by a guy who got in the car line by 5:30 am for his son's PIR...and he said he was still 6th in line.  Wow.

The Battle of the "taking the shuttle" vs "taking the car" decision.  There is no REAL answer!

  • sandy (ship 9 DIV. 126 ) PIR 4/8

i will be taking the shuttle. i just talk to the hotel and they said shuttles start at 6:45 and my sailor can ride back with us to the hotel. its a first come thing with the shuttel.
  • Craig

Yea dianne, we would like the 20th car.  Once that gate opened they have the system down to a science.  They know how to get the cars in quick.  The other thing I liked about driving is not having to lug all the crap that was bought at the NEX (photo's, knick-knacks).... Myself, I hate having to meet a schedule. I've done that for 20 years in the military, now I set my own.  I get to where I'm going and leave when I desire.

Totally agree, some people like the Shuttle, some like the car.  There is no real answer.

For anyone ordering a coin...I ordered one on Sunday, and it arrived today.  Very Nice!  Got it from Northwest Territorial Mint.  Bronze colored Navy coin, engraved on the back (We put date, ship and Div#, Congratulations----, From SR to Sailor, You do us Proud) that with a coin holder + blue pouch.  $20 total.  Very nice.

  • navymom2nd SR

  • SandyShip11div90 ma of 2 sailors

Hello Ladies, take a moment and visit my page! I will be having a contest and when I reach 200 people that like my page I will be giving away 5 decals for your car or any other surface.http://www.facebook.com/pages/Anchors-Away-Mom/190869520950576
  • Bebe

Craig, is there such a thing as extra tickets?  Or do only the people on the first letter from my SR?

  • diannep

bcordova:  There are no "tickets' persay....there is the list of the 4 guests per sailor.  But usually there is room for "extras" ...the Navy will only guarantee the 4, but most all get in, even if they may have to wait until the listed guests are all seated.
  • Bebe

diannep~thank you.  So maybe my daughter in law, not listed, can get in?
  • Craig

bcordova - Here is the exact quote from RTC
    Q.
How many guests per recruit are allowed to attend Pass-In-Review?
    A.

Four seats are guaranteed per recruit; however, children 12 years old and younger do not count against the four-guest maximum. The graduating recruit is responsible for identifying those individuals to be placed on the access list. Please coordinate with your recruit via letters regarding who will be on the access list. No additions, deletions or changes will be made to the access list the week of graduation. The four guests on the access list will be admitted into the ceremonial drill hall first. Additional guests not on the access list will have to wait inside the Visitor Center until after the start of the ceremony at which time they will be allowed into the ceremonial hall if additional seating is available as space permits. No additional seating can be guaranteed.  PLEASE DO NOT CALL FOR ADDITIONAL SEATS.  All visitors must have valid photo identification. This requirement includes children (school ID, Social Security card or copy of birth certificate). Please be aware that security may deny base admission to guests NOT on the access list if they are not accompanied by a guest who is on the access list.

Just got a great letter! My son was selected as the Honor Recruit for the Division.  We get to see him before the graduation and sit in a special area.  I am so proud!

  • diannep

bcordova:  Just to let you know...I know what RTC says about extras, that Craig posted below.  But I know most extras do not have to wait to be seated, even though occasionally they may have to.  It is worth going for those extras, believe me!

  • jim'scupcake

    Congratulations Judyspin!!!
  • diannep

HOOYAH, judyspin!  You are one of the lucky ones who will see your son standing in front of his division section so I KNOW you will get there very early for PIR so you can just stare at him (gates open at 6:30 a.m).  Just make sure you know the rules before you bear hug him and knock him over!  He will be "on duty" when you see him...but how proud you will be!  Congrats~

  • Debi (Ship 9 Div 126)

Congrcatulations! Judyspin, you must me so proud and Congrats to your recruit also!

What type of engraveable Navy coin would be appropriate to purchase for my SR as a graduation gift?  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

ProudNavyMom, I am so sorry to hear that. I hope you will know more information soon and I hope and pray you son is okay and will recover. Maybe he can rejoin once he recovers. Tell him to sign the form that allows them to discuss his medical issues with you so you will know more about what is going on. I will keep your family and especially you and your son in my thoughts and prayers. Please come back and let us know how he is.
  • SandyShip11div90 ma of 2 sailors

Proud Navy mom, I am sorry to hear this news. God knows your sons real heart and maybe this isn't for him. This happened for a reason. I pray to God that if this isn't for my son to send him back to me. God knows his heart and what he can handle. Be there for him as this will be something he won't understand right now. I hope he recovers from whatever medical condition he has. God Bless you both.

Anyone who lives in the VA Beach/Norfolk area. There is a group of us planning on meeting one day for lunch (shooting for Thursday, April 28th) the last week of April. I will be there that week for spring break. We would love to meet as many other moms/families etc as possible for lunch one day. If you have a sailor there and they could possible come that would be awesome. If you are in that area and would like to join us please let me know. Send me a private message with your name and number. Thanks
  • justin'smom

Proud Navy Mom - I'm so sorry to hear this.  I know how difficult this must be for your son and your family,  someone once gave me the following quote -

"Everything will work out in the end.  If it hasn't worked out, it isn't the end".  Please have faith that your son will have wonderful opportunities in his future.

I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers for a full recovery,  As some of the other moms have written - once he recovers he could possibly try again for a Navy career.

  • Melhugsnavymom

    Proud Navy Mom,

We will be praying for your son and for your family. So sorry to hear the news.

    Proudnavymom~

I am so glad your son can see that at such an early stage. He is right though God only knows what he has instore for us. I would be very proud of him too.

    Take care Jennifer

ProudNavyMom~Thinking of you and your family.
  • diannep

ProudNavyMom:  You can tell by what your son said about God opening another door that he has a wonderful attitude.  He may not understand why the Lord led him down this path to not allow him to complete it, but I have no doubt His purpose will be made clear down the road for the purpose of the Navy path in your son's life.  Blessings to all of you!
  • TraceyJ77

Hi Everyone,  I have a nephew who is PIR 4/8/11, my son is also a SR in another PIR.  I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about Battlestations 21 and when they going thru.

  • Craig

  • TraceyJ77

Wow .......Thank you so much for the information it really answered a lot of questions.  Do you know how far in advance they find out about the date they will go thru.  My son is PIR 4/29/11 and would like to take day off for phone call.
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

TraceyJ77, They will probably know a week or so in advance.  I talked to my SR on Wednesday and she was able to tell me their day for BS.
  • Marianne(Ship04/Div807)

Proud Navy Mom- I just read your message.  I'm so sorry to hear that.  I will keep you, your recruit and your family in my prayers.  God has a plan for him.
  • diannep

kimberly:  Look for "jim's cupcake's" post on March 25th on here about the coin that they ordered and received.
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Denise, there are no worries here. I am here first and foremost to help answer questions about bootcamp, PIR, A-school, or whatever questions family members of our future and present Sailors may have. I spend probably 5 to 6 hours a day trying to help others because this site has been such a help to me. I offer the ribbons I make to anyone who wants them. I have been out of work for over a year and this helps me pass the time. If I were here to make a bunch of money I would have to charge a lot more for the ribbons because the supplies I use are so expensive. We all have different tastes and different needs and anyone on this site is welcome to buy whatever they want from whomever they want. It doesn't hurt my feelings in the least if someone would rather buy their ribbons from someone else or make their own. That is why you will only see me post information on the ribbons when someone asks about them. I don't want to push them on anyone and besides, that is the rules of this site. Someone has to ask about what you sell before you can say "I have this for sale." I know of 1 other person who has sold ribbons on here and our ribbons are so different that I don't think either of us has taken business from the other. So please don't worry. You have not offended me. You and I are friends, we often message each other and I hope we can continue to do so. And, yes you are worth a great deal, as are we all. I hope you and everyone else has a wonderful time with your sailor at PIR. I have been working on the remaining ribbons for this group ever since I got home from church and now I must get back to it and back to watching Carolina as I work on them lol. Go Heels!!!!
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Yeah well, Carolina better start playing in this game or they are going be joining those Duke boys for a round of golf lol.... And you are welcome

And if anyone wants ribbons from Denise please let her know and if you would like ribbons from me it is not too late to get those as well. I know you all are going to have a fabulous time at PIR and hugging your Sailor is what is important :-)

  • ProudmominNC ship 02 Div 921

Just found out yesterday that my SR won't be staying in GL for A school, but will be departing for San Antonio sometime Sat.  Any others out there who have recruits traveling to San Antonio?  This is so new to me.  Don't know any other info. yet....not flight time, etc.  Any advice would be appreciated!!  Thanks, Rhonda
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Proudmomin NC- none of them know their flight times yet either. The sailors don't find out the exact time of their fight until a day or so before PIR. When they say 2am that is just the time they leave or prepare to leave the base for the airport. Most flights don't start until 6 am or later. I know you must be disappointed that he is not staying in Great Lakes at least for the weekend. Make sure you write a letter now and send it to him with an index card for him to fill out all the info for the Airport, airline, flight number, and flight time etc and then he can give it to you right after PIR. You wouldn't want to end up at the wrong airport and not get to spend that extra time with him.
  • Heather's Mom

Are we allowed to bring any personal items to PIR that our Sailors are able to take to A school?
  • Jajajo

How long will it take after graduation for my daughter to get checked into "A" school?  She's staying in GL's.  I'm debating on whether to drive to graduation or take the shuttle.  Does the shuttle only run for a certain time after graduation?
