This group started on 2/8/11 and we survived boot camp, laughter and tears. Now our recruits are sailors and headed in many directions, but we'll continue to support one another throughout!
For those that are married to a sailor in boot camp -
I just received a copy of a letter that was written by a married wife from another PIR group...She wrote this during the PIR weekend. I am going to post it here just because you ladies might have to write the same letter after PIR. I just want to save you some time...~ha...
Praying for 121-124 in BattleStations tonight. Remember, calls usually start around 2 pm GL time (tomorrow), but sometimes start earlier, or even later. They will go for a good while because there are 4 divisions going through and then making calls....so don't dispair if they take a while to come in! Phones handy all day long! Even in the bathroom or at the mailbox!
omg Craig, that is so funny, I have tears in my eyes I was laughing so hard.
I am so excited for all you. I will have my candle lit for you all each night of battlestations and I can't wait to see all the comments when the "I'm a Sailor" calls come in. It is such an amazing feeling.
Be sure and think of me for a split second at the meet and greet. That is my birthday and I am sure while your are all having a great time getting to know each other Phil will take me somewhere wonderful for dinner :-D
Good luck to divisions 121-124 during Battlestations tonight! I will also have my candle lit! I'm so happy and excited for the families who will receive their calls tomorrow!
It is here! Battlestations! Do you remember Feb 8? That is the day my son left on this journey. At that time, Battlestations seemed so far away and now it is here! I am praying for the divisions as they go thru this - for clear thinking, sure hands, safety and protection.
All too vividly mumziepooh! On Feb 8 I thought the time was going to go by painfully slow. But here we are now down to the last week, WOW :) Good luck to all divisions going through BS tonight. Special shout out to 121, you guys will do awesome! Will anxiously be waiting for the call!
I agree, jajajo and mumziepoo! I was just telling my husband last night that I was really on edge the first couple of weeks, the next four weren't so bad, but now I'm really on edge again! I can't wait until next Friday!
Now that you are down to crunch time i bet most of you will agree that it passed faster than you every thought it would. Time to start packing ladies, well for those of you who haven't already lol.
I got a few letters from my hubs yesterday too. He said their division has gotten a lot of flags but also a "street demerit hit" Which- I guess is not good, but he didnt elaborate on it. (if anyone knows, let me know!)
He said in the letter they did not know when they were doing BS or the gas chamber. (dated the 27th) He also wrote that he passed the SWCC PST and is just waiting on his medical screen to come back and he hopefully will be getting that contract.
He said he is still sick-- has been ever since the beginning of BC! They got another "peanut butter" shot in the butt and a flu shot on the 24th.
Getting a street demerit hit means they screwed up and one of the RDC from another division caught them. The RDC will 'pull' a demerit chit and write down an offence. It then goes back to your RDC, who will typically deal out some form of punishment...
Typical demerit hits are for not singing in the tunnels from Camp Moffet to Camp Porter. Calling out the candence in a non-typical Great Lakes style. Recruits not staying in step with one another. or talking while marching. So they got caught....and will be giving extra instruction/attention (will be punished).
CRAIG...My son 'got in trouble' and moved to a diff division...is that a possible punishment? I know my son has done his best to follow every direction(that is the kind of person he is...doesn't like to mess up) He couldn't tell me when he called the other day to tell me of the division change but still graduating 4/8
If he stayed in the same PIR group, whatever he did wasn't that serious. When I was in boot camp, I was set back because I was in the hospital for pnenomia. When I got out I didn't know how to fold a sweater that was issued while I was in the hospital. So I was set back.... So don't think it's because his of fault. It's more than likely, that he didn't know.
Every sailor must be on the same sheet of music when they graduate...
Letter from my son today. He indicated that he is not staying in GL for Corpsman school as he was told. He will be heading to San Antonio early Saturday. I really have not paid attention to the procedure for getting a gate pass so we can spend time with him at the airport. If someone could fill me in, I would appreciate it. I'm so disappointed. He is too but also excited to move on to new place.
got a letter from my daughter today... she said if i do not get a call from her its a good thing. if i got a call that ment she had to start over in BC... no calls :)
Ah...letter day! Assured me he ordered his pictures (i am a scrapbook mom!). Said (and this would have been written last Sunday) T-Gas Chamber, W-last Inspection, Th-last physical, F-Test 3..this coming Monday-BS.
Lala..I received my ribbons today!! Thank you so much..and also for the little embellishment! I will say, I am a crafter...and could not have done a better job! Thank you so much. We will wear these very proudly!
Today...his last letter (we will be there next thursday...so no mail for us here) and the ribbons...very emotional.
He is ready...we are ready. Now, how do I go without him for 33+ weeks when he goes to school? I guess atleast we will be able to communicate more frequently, hope that will help!
Hey TB, read that BS discussion above. i think it says, I know I am rearranging my whole work day so I can be at work when he calls. I wrote him a letter to call me there.
Lala, we also received our ribbons today. Thank you so much. They are absolutely beautiful! Appreciate all that you do. You are very a special lady. Thank you again!
6 days left to go! It is unbelievable! Got a letter today, probably my last one. We are leaving on Wednesday. I haven't gotten our ribbons yet. They must be on their way if others have just gotten theirs. I had my daughter's boyfriend make a copy of his birth certificate, so that at least his last name on the form will be the same as his mother's maiden name. She has alot of questions for MA group. She is shipping out to San Antonio on Monday for MA training. I am going to join that group now and start asking questions. She wants to enjoy the weekend, but hates the thought of saying good bye again. Good Luck to all in BS. My prayers are with those that for whatever reason could not make it this far. Their day will come, too.
Hello, my son is in Ship 11 Div 123 and graduating on April 8. Does anyone know when their battle stations are taking place? Happy to be a part of this group and I am so looking forward to seeing my son!
Got a letter today. My son seems to think the 807 is a good candidate for the Hall of Fame and if they win, they get two extra hours of leave on Friday night. soooo, what exactly is the Hall of Fame? He's had that nasty cold too that's getting them all-just not getting much sleep, but they are giving that final push!
Good Luck to your recruits who are going to do Battlestations tonight! Prayers are going out for you! and for all the future sailor mom's who are getting stressed! I know I will be stressed out on Sunday when my son's division goes
KiWi, just went to groups and used the search engine-another mom asked this from another division and the answer she was given was: from the way my son described the Hall of Fame, this is for when a division wins the captains cup, but does so with scores that are above a specific standard. " And they get extra liberty time.
Hi cupcake, and all, thank heavens someones SR keeps home informed. Mine isn't too good about it, but nice to know BS might be M. I will be expectant. I am excited for next week anyway, it is nice to know its almost over. I'm sure the SRs feel the same.
I don't think you ladies will have a problem getting gate passes at the Chicago airports to wait with your new sailors, but if you do, take it from another N4Mom who had an issue today at another airport when her son was returning to school from leave. She was told No, no gate passes to stay at the gate with her son. She didn't accept that and went over to the USO and they said absolutely, she should be able to get one. So she talked to a supervisor who gave her one (with ID) immediately. So...if you are told "NO", please ask for a supervisor or contact the USO there for help...no matter what airport you are in at any time.
Hall of Fame flag is for division who keeps perfect marks during the entire 8 weeks. My son's division was very honored to get this when he was there. It is quite an honor!
Captains Cup, this Sat. for this group, is an athletic competition between the divisions. There is an all-male division winner and an integrated (male/female) division winner.
Yes, they still do Captain's Cup. Captain's Cup is held Saturday morning and does not interfere with Battle Stations on Sunday night. Because of CC, they don't run BS on Friday or Saturday night.
