This group started on 2/8/11 and we survived boot camp, laughter and tears. Now our recruits are sailors and headed in many directions, but we'll continue to support one another throughout!
Thanks ntz4laa, I was just wondering about that, and I got a letter from my son today and he didn't mention CC. Just said he has been studying alot and had a busy week coming up ( I am assuming he means this week)
j4smom~hubby and I got a good laugh about "keeping us informed". Communication with parents (he was 18 when he left~turned 19 there)has never been his strong point. Had to laugh! But, you are right~he did tell us some things. He actually does keep us more informed with a 1 page (usually single sided) letter each week, than he did when he was home! For anyone who reads the comic "ZITS"...that seems to have been our life! We send him that comic strip every once in a while. We laugh~he probably just doesn't get that it must be written about him!
PIR LAST MINUTE TIPS: Make sure everyone has ID's (birth certs for kids without ID's) Bring at least 2 copies of the gate/parking pass - whether you plan on taking a shuttle to PIR or not, you'll need it to return your sailor back to base in the evening. Binoculars - trust me on this! Tide Stick Pen and a lint brush Tissue - self explanatory! Camera - and charger (or film) Cell phone - and charger Umbrella-just in case GPS, reservation numbers, maps you may have printed Husband, kids, etc (easy to forget those!) An open mind to how your weekend will transpire - remember, they will be tired, they will be hungry and they just want hugs! Bring your Sailors cell, laptop, ipod and all chargers to use in the room to catch up and if they are G&G you can give pass them on. A comfy pair of clothes for your sailor to relax in while in your motel room A sweater or jacket - it gets cold in the PIR hall Whatever cool ribbon or name tag you may have made for your Meet & Greet If you have room in your bag…a towel for your Sailor to sit on if you do go out and sightsee.
Best advice: Have fun and whatever you do, do NOT bring your sailor back to the base late. No one will forgive you for a long, long time! (If someone is late, they lose liberty the next day - and their whole division loses a couple of hours!!! NOT COOL)
1. Next to the visitor center they now have daycare and a petting zoo. This is where they keep the navy goat and you can leave your kids there during PIR. ...2. If you show up at 5am the morning of PIR you can eat breakfast with your SR in the chow hall. 3. Tours of RTC are now available and will include a tour of the Mayflower that is in dry dock at RTC.
Contact the SR’s recruiter for more info and tickets for the tour.
I walked to the kitchen without my phone and I think I had the entire floor wondering if I was having a heart attach when I realized that I didn't have it. I screamed and RAN back to my office. (it is less than 20 yards away) they all think I am a bit nuts anyway! I might have just confirmed it for those who were on the fence.
My son has written many times they have to hurry up and do something to just wait a long period of time. So the is the way of the Navy. Hurry up and wait.
My ex just called and said he is going to be calling me now. He just called him. Waiting......waiting.....waiting....Those darn calling cards take so long to connect.
I havent gotten a call yet. Div. 122. I think they are going backwards. Like they started the calls with 124....123...122...121...So it may be a little before we get our calls.
Question. For those that dont pass...is there a 2nd chance? My Sr goes through on Monday/Tuesday. If those SR's dont pass...when would they go through again? Fingers crossed for everyone!
jim'scupcake ~ Yes, they get another chance to pass. From what I read passing is a 3 strikes thing, mess up 3 times and you don't pass. The good thing is you are given another chance. With the case of the divisions that are going through Monday night, I'm not sure when they go through again since our PIR is only scheduled through Monday. I don't know if they would have them go through on Thursday with the next PIR or what.
Congratulations to all of you!!! Lala - Just want to thank you for the ribbons, they look great! And Rags- your Mom is mean! But a clever April fools joke! My son's division goes Sunday night! Just keep praying, I can't believe they called so late, I would have thought you would have gotten your calls this morning!

Ok - I now have a mom up for adoption.
She just called me and I answered the phone saying, "No, not yet!" and then she goes, "He called ME!"
My heart sank and I was happy and sad at the same time. Then she said, "April Fool!"
She is a sick and wicked wicked wicked person!
