This group started on 2/8/11 and we survived boot camp, laughter and tears. Now our recruits are sailors and headed in many directions, but we'll continue to support one another throughout!
TM - so glad that he moved in a positive direction. I know that had to be very scary and touch and go for a while. Way to go for the Navy! They knew they had a good man in him and spent the time to get him well.
I had a great Mother's Day! I took my mother and gradmother to visit my sailor in A school in San Antonio. It was the first time that were able to see him since he left for bootcamp. It was wonderful to see the accommodations at Ft Sam Houston - Joint Base. It is so HUGE - it is a town of its own. My sailor is doing wonderful there and having a great time. He is enjoying corpman training and is already signing up for C-school - psychology tech of all things. I am sure he will be analyzing me soon!! :0)
Enjoy hearing about everyone's sailors. I am sure that everyone is ready for leave. My son will get his first weekend liberty on Memorial weekend and he has plans to come home. It will be great for everyone.
I found this info too - looks like it was posted over 2 years ago, but worth checking out for the price:
MWR Travel Plus in bldg 400 can assist. On Friday morning Dec. 18th they'll have shuttles to O'hare, Milwaukee and Midway for $18. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Return tickets are available for between Dec. 28th and Jan. 3rd. Pricing for return is $17 from O'hare and $23 from Midway. Please check with MWR to verify.
Ladies~how wonderful to hear about your sailors doing so well. Mine left for Pensacola Sunday after PIR-didn't start A school until last week! He had hoped to be finishing in the next week or so-looks like it'll be more like mid-June. LOVE that I can email, call or text him anytime. He sent me flowers for Mothers Day with a great card.
I've tried other groups but none compare to this one-we just have way too much in common and went through the same things.
So wonderful to hear my sailor talk about what he'll be doing next..and more than anything can't wait to see him again soon.
Hi, everyone. My sailor is loving San Diego, he is getting 95's in his classes and taking full advantage of MWR activities. Sounds good on the phone. No more tears for mom...well...hardly any/. My nephew goes off to Boot Camp soon...we start all over! Hope you al had great Mother's days...you are awesome moms!!! (and wives)
Yes this group IS different than the new one. We've now been asked to remove all photos of our sailors in uniform off FB and any public site with their name attached if in uniform. So for those of you I shared photos with on Shutterfly, please don't post them if my son is also in them-sigh! This is going to take awhile to get use to. Nice to hear the other Divisions have settled into schools and routines.
So glad that everyon's Sailors are doing well, and everyone had a great Mother's Day. I was lucky to have him home for about a week. He will be leaving tomorrow, and aparently there isn't much comunication when the ship is at sea! So I guess it will be BC all over again! But he really seems good,a little nervous about life on his ship, but thats about it. I really like this group too. We all started out here, it was so special because we all went through this stuff together
My Sailor sent me flowers!! I must say, I feel that he is almost all grown up now. To send flowers to your mom~you actually have to plan ahead...the thought of him planning ahead...of really thinking of me...days before Mother's Day. Wow. I started crying all over again!
Go NAVY! We gave you a boy, you have turned him into an even better young man! Thank you!
I mean if anyone wants to send me photos they took, I will post them. I think because I started this page no one else is allowed to post. Wish that wasn't the case!
MamaSeal - yeah - no pics of my son, either. Ah well - let's keep these boys safe.
Flowers - how sweet - i got a card and it came early! Wow! The return address was so funny:
name, name
something something Roberts Ave
some mailbox thing
Corry Station
I don't know the rest of this stuff.....
Details just seem to escape him. But he is doing well in class. Loves Florida and hot weather again. That southun boy just doesn like snow (drawllll).
Mumziepooh- Just wondered if you have any ideas to fill the care package of the Sailor we signed up for. It's super hard to figure out what to give a gal we don't really know.:)
Texasmom- So happy for you! So glad your son is doing better and will be PIRing soon. Bet he can't wait to leave GL, since he has been there a lot longer than most!
Hope everyone's Sailors are doing well. Mine is doing well in Goose Creek. We went to visit him a few weeks ago and the base there is great. A lot of stress, though, trying to fit studying and everything else like eating in one day!:)
CONGRATS TexasMom!!! I know this has been a long journey for you and I am so happy that your son made it through those long weeks and healed well enough to continue on with his Navy Career!! Good man - it was tough hanging on all of those extra weeks and not giving in!!
Sorry to read that Michele....I was getting on to say...YEAH I received the Keel and the DVD today...and I was so happy, reminded me of everyone getting a letter and sharing the good news!!
The DVD and Keel came this week however....Even though I paid for it, my son had it mailed to his Dad's house. I doubt I will get my hands on it. I'll have to bug the heck out of him to get it.
My daughter graduated from the Master at Arms program in San Antonio, TX, on 06/03/11. She loved it! Is now home and went to report to her Reserve Station in Scotia, NY. She kinda wishes she joined FT active duty. Really loved the MA program and San Antonio. She is so tan. She looks great. Good Luck to all else who graduated BC on 4/8/11. We sure have come a long way. Sorry I never got to meet anybody in person this whole time! The comments and support were invaluable all along the way. BC was rough!
I got the Keel last week, I guess my sailor never ordered the DVD, because I didn't get it. He is on his ship the Enterprise now, not sure where he is , but he does e-mail every couple of days, Now, I am not sure if this is as bad as BC,I pray that all of your sailors are doing well, this was really a great group of ladies!
My son came home this weekend and is doing so wonderul. Loves the Navy, stationed in San Diego and will report to the Carl Vinson. Just an hour away from home. All my prayers have been answered. I hope everyone is well and if your sailor hasn't come yet-hope they do soon.
So wonderful to read about how much our sailors truely love what they've chosen to do.
I do enjoy reading everyone's updates. There are a few of us HM mom's that still communicate regularly because our son's are together in San Antoino in A school. Our boys will graduate July 18th and most have decided to go to C-School, from what I gather. My son signed up for a Surgery Technician. His C-school starts around mid August and he will be staying in San Antonio. Since I am in Houston, that is a very good thing for me. As soon as they received their orders for C-school, most of them learned that there was a quad zero position available in Italy for 3 years. It bummed most of them out, but oh well. My son does get down from time to time around all of the studying and limited time, but overall, he seems happy.
He plans to come home for a while between schools and I know that he is looking forward to that. It will be nice to have him home for a short while.
Hope you all are doing well. I like reading the updates so i hope that more people post some.
Sounds like your sailors are doing well! My son is still in Pensacola for a couple more months in his training. They are starting to find out what their duty stations or C schools will be but he hasn't heard yet. His top 3 choices are Japan Japan and Japan! I am thinking maybe Japan....just a hunch. We are going to Florida next week to see him and take him his truck. Pretty excited to see him!!!
Hi Everyone! So glad to see the updates and that your Sailors are doing so well. We just got back from a cross country trip to South Carolina to visit our son who is in A School there. He is also doing really well. We purchased him a car there so now he has more freedom. No more taxis!! It is always so hard to say goodbye. I try not to let the tears flow until he is out of sight. On the final evening there my daughter met a Sailor and wants to return to SC in August. I think I am going to go broke! Take care everyone and keep the updates coming!!
I hope you're all doing well. What has happened to all the sailors who went to A schools-do they keep moving or is that months long? For those of us in spec ops, some got rolled back (including mine) due to big class sizes. A little disappointing, but more time to train.
I think everyone is different. For Nukes, A School lasts 6 months and then you move on to Power School and then Prototype. A total of a year and a half or so. My son has 6 years in the Navy.:) I guess everyone is different, depending on your specialty.
Hi, Did anyone else have a son or daughter go to A School in SA for MA? My daughter was supposed to get a sign on bonus. She has been home since 6/4 and has had her first reserve weekend. One guy has been out of A school for 6 months and he still doesn't have his sign on bonus! Anybody know how you get that? I saw it in her contract. Her officers keep telling her it takes time.
My oldest son was a reservist, It;s true it really took a while for the bonus, I bet it was very close to a year, ( from the day that he went to BC) at least 8 months, Sorry but it was a long..... time
greetings to all! my navy son is in SD. Not much info from him yet he loves it. Anyone else w/son or daughter there? PIR was on 4/8/11. All best wishes to everyone. :)
Hello everyone...My son is stationed in SD as well...Does love it very much and looking forward to his first cruise mid-august. We live close enough that he comes home liberty weekends. What a Blessing for me =)....
I wish everyone all the best...keep updates coming~nice to hear about our sailors.
Debi - was there anything he had to do to initiate the bonus money? A form? I've been told about a form, but nobody else in charge seems to know anything about from whose in charge anyway. What does she have to do to get that?
As far as I was told, just finishing BC and A school , But as I said it takes a long time before the kids get their money.Just when you forget about it, thats when he got it.My guess she will be very lucky if she gets the check before Christmas.
Hi folks! Well we have decided to drive my son's car out to him in San Diego. We will take 2 weeks and see some sights on the "bucket list." he completed his A school and will be there another 9 months for his tech training. Of course, the Navy managed to upset us all by making a "clerical error" and telling him he was denied for the tech school. Straightened out now, but we had already made our reservations for the return flight!!
Just checking in. My son finished A school training and is officially a Hospital Corpsman now. He is home through July 30th and will start his C school for Surgery Tech in August once they class up. I heard it should be the end of August. It is different having him home. The first day he woke up and immediately made his bed. He saw my eyebrows raise and said, "Can't help it. It is what I do now." Well, since then, the bed hasn't been made once! He has slipped right back into his lazy - "I'll get to it later." mentality. I am ready to shoot him!! He has made such a mess! I thought that this would be better?? Can they regress that quickly? I am so proud of him for his accomplishments, I guess I can't have the moon and the stars at once. :0)
Hope everyone is well. Miss chatting with you all.
Hi Ladies! Just popped on to the site...and saw you were all talking~sometimes I really miss that...running home after to work to see how everyone is doing. My son is going through ATT (graduated BESS about 6 weeks ago) in Groton. Still just lovin it. Hoping to see him at Christmas (last time we saw him was 4/8)...he is in CT and we are in CA. Glad you are all well and that the Sailors are well too!!
It's funny, well sort of, to look back at all the stress we went through in boot camp. It's nice to hear your sailors are all settling into their new professions and loving it! There's a bunch of us from the 800 divisions still waiting for outcomes. The roller coaster ride continues day to day. But, my son is happy and loving it!
Hello ladies, My son also graduated from A school in San Antonio as a Hospital Corpsman. He is currently home and enjoying spending time with his friends and his family. Suprisingly, we have had the chance to visit with him more than I thought. He has been helping out the Recruiter this week. He attended my 13 yr old Civil Air Patrol meeting and was pretty excited to recruit E2. While he has been home we were able to get his uniforms cleaned and rehemmed. They were way too long. He ruined the bottoms of his dress blues. He heads back to San Antonio on Monday and will be starting C School at the end of August. He is pursuing a path in Behavioral health. I hope he likes it. My husband and I will be heading to SA in September for a business trip. I am thrilled that I will be able to visit with Chris during that time. We are hoping that he will be able to head to Disney at Thanksgiving to join us on a family vacation.
Glad to hear that everyone is doing well. It seems like ages ago that we were all waiting on edge for our weekly letters. Enjoy the remainder of your summer.
I had to laugh,Ragdollrae! We've decided the Navy didn't cure our daughter of her messiness either!
On a positive note, she graduated from HM A-school on July 30th in the last class from Great Lakes NHCS. She opted to not to go to C-school and take a duty station first. She wanted to work in a hospital for a while before she decided to specialize. So, we're leaving tomorrow morning on a 2 day road trip to drive her and her car to NAS Whidbey Island in Washington. Leave sure went by fast!
ntz4laa, my son is wishing he would have taken that path instead of C school but, as he said, they brainwashed you to think that C school or marine fleet was the way to go. I wish her much success.
