Hello everyone....glad to see everybody seems to be doing better these days...Jbird my daughter is doing great but still misses her big brother being around. We talk to him almost everyday. Now we atre just waiting to here when we will get to see him again. He got his orders just the other day he will be going to northfort.Hes super pumped about that. His buddy from home is there, well, will be right now he's here in Louisville visiting.I'm really good friends with his mama.As a matter of fact she has my little girl there visiting. We are working on her social skills this summer. She has a daughter her age and they both love pokemon' so far they are getting along great! My friends son was on the Carl Vincent so in our eyes our guy is part of history! It is so great to see that kid,its been awhile, and his mother is on cloud nine with her baby boy home.Even if it is so hard for her to accept the fact that he spending alot of his time with his friends.I know my son will want to do the same, but he assured me that his goal is to spend most of his time with family. We thought he would be home on the forth and he was upset at first that wasn't going to happen but he snapped out of it quickly. It looks more like the first of August before he gets to come home,he told me he loves every minute and has no regrets about joining the Navy....That alone makes it all good!
so good to see some of us kind of re-uniting after a while. Sounds like your guys and girls are doing well which is great to hear. My son is enjoying his nuke school in south carolina. Still a long way to go but he's learing and enjoying his classes. He really like visitng Charleston and loves the sushi (not for me, doesn't sound appealing!) He graduates A school in November then continues on with more schooling after a 10 day break. Can not wait to see him. Did anyone else get the dvd of PIR?
jbird- im here with my husband so we are in housing together. i dont think my husband knows your son since they arent in the same class but he would know his roommate since hes an MM. MMs do leave sooner cause A school is only 3 months for them isnstead of 6 months like EMs and ETs have.
Hi everyone, my son just received his orders to his new duty station. Portsmouth VA will be his new home after HM A school. He seemed happy with his choice. He had a chance to return to Cali (29 Palms) but decided to pick somewhere new. So I guess we will have to visit him in VA once he gets settled. He gets to come home for a week before he has to report to his new duty. His gradution will be Aug 15. Class 150.
I hope everyone is doing well and that your SR is happy and healthy. Thank you all for the support since Day 1. God Bless.
Hi everyone! It's so nice to read all the new posts after graduation. I received our DVD and it was so cool to watch them coming in and it was much closer up than I got for my pictures! We could see the tension on his face for the big ceremony! haha. Got the keel book too, and was surprised there weren't more pics of his div. Well, he is finally coming home in about 2 weeks! Can't wait! He just graduated A-school at GL and will be going to San Diego! So he's still in CA. His 2nd choice was Japan. I'm sure he'll still be going there on the ship occasionally. He had a little hold up with his foot for a bit, so he doesn't get to immed. come home cuz it takes time to change the original ppwk I guess. I love how proud he is of himself! He did really well in school and got the best grade on the final tests in strand schl.
I really appreciate all the help this site was and all you nice ladies and gents were when we were going through the thick of it. Thanks so much!!
thats great that he got san diego. nick finally came home for the first time for labor day weekend . he just started A school 2 weeks ago.he sat around for a few weeks after tech school. he should be out of great lakes around jan or feb.
Hi everyone! I haven't been on this forum in a while...hope everyone is doing well. My husband graduated Rescue Swimmer School yesterday! He got Romeo for his A school platform so we will be here in Pensacola for at least 6 more months.
I guess I haven't been here in a while too, since June. I just looked back..
Congratulations to Navywifeapril on your husband's graduation. i'll bet his training must have been rigorous. I've seen only parts of what they do on the military channel, very impressive. I'm sure you're so proud.
My sailor (son) went right from great lakes to south carolina for nuke school. Haven't seen him since may at PIR. He's supposed to be able to come home for a week or so in November, I can not wait! After that he'll still have a year of school and then he'll head out on a carrier to tend to the reactor. anyone else have a son or husband or even daughter down in sc? Sometimes it seems like bootcamp was ages ago doesn't it? But when you're going through it (as a mom or wife or grandma etc..) it seems like it'll never end. we've come so far and so have our amazing sailors. They're the best!
It does seem like ages ago since PIR. Here's my latest update since July. Son graduated A School as a Corpsman San Antonio. He had 2 weeks leave with us which was great to have him home. Then he had to report to Camp Pendleton and is working in the ER at the Naval Hospital. He is loving it. His next training will start in Oct FMTB training and that will take him through mid December. He comes home every weekend ....to do his laundry. I was surprised (I don't know why) they quickly put him to work in the ER. He done stitches, IVs, blood drawing, EKGs and a cast. He also had to the pediatric ward when we had that big blackout earlier in the month. I know I'm spoiled with him coming home every weekend starting on Friday.....and I'm almost don't want to say it knowing that some sailors are so far from home. But I am thankful about it. It seems all our sailors are doing well and that's all we could hope for. This next training worries me but I'm just living in the moment and loving it too. Next week he will turn 21. I love seeing these updates....Well another season is upon us and we should appreciate how far our sailors have come. Take care everyone.
Hi cali-mom, glad your son is enjoying his time in san diego, sounds like he is very busy at camp pendleton, it is a very nice base, with some awesome weather. I am excited for you that he gets to come home every weekend, i would love that as we are just 40 minutes from san diego. my son is in japan for the next 3 years and I hope he enjoys seeing the sights. well keep us up to date.
Hope everyone their sailors are doing well. I have been to Goose Creek twice to visit my son and once to bring him home for a long weekend. He is having to study hard for the first time ever. My daughter who lives in SD is coming to visit in a couple weeks. I'll finally get to meet my granddaughter, Jessly, who was born on Easter this year. My son in law is deployed till Jan so Sonia & her 3 little one will be staying with us through the winter. Much warmer here than SD ( where they have already had snow) My sailor son will be coming for a visit for Columbus Day weekend so we will have a full house & lots of fun.
sherry- how did you like goose creek? i hate it here! i wait wait till we get to go to ur first duty station. we are putting cali as our #1 choice. right now my husband is in t track and is classing up the 13th of this month. what part is ur son currently in?
the base housing sucks, people out here cant drive, im always sick from the weather changing everyday, and i dont feel safe leaving base cause theres all kinds of crime. i think its because im from a small cow town in cali and here is just so much different and i stay home all day because a bunch of the wives out here are fake and like to start drama all the time.
wow Jsparkle, I'm so sorry you're unhappy where you're living. That is nooo fun. The housing is crumby? Is that different from where someone like my son would be living? I guess the dorms? Bad crime, eh? I'm from a tiny town too, I can relate to how you feel on that. I guess it's one of the negatives of being in the military. I hope when it's all said and done that the positives far outweigh this present situation. I hope you'll find a friend who you feel comfortable around and maybe you can feel safe about taking walks and spending some time away from home with that person. How does your husband feel about all this? I guess there are always Navy and military wives in far worse conditions/situations somewhere else out there so maybe that'll help keep your spirits up. Count your blessings that you DO have (health, husband, son, a home, a car, food, money) I know it's sounding silly but sometimes it's what we have to do to remind us to keep pressing on. I'ts temporary. Soon you'll be back to where you feel better about living. Hang in there, K?
thanks, i do have some friends here but they are all getting ready to leave to NY for proto or are leaving for their first duty stations. yes the housing out here is horrible. but where your sons at should be alot better. what is your son in right now? my husband is in t track about to class up to power school on the 13th. oh and hes an MM.
My son is an ET. All I know is that it's 18 months of schooling, including proto. My son won't start power school I think until like after his November break (FINALLY! I MISS HIM) so 6 months of power school and 6 months of proto. I am guessing that your friends sailors have been there longer since they are leaving for proto pretty soon. You seem personable and will meet new friends. Is your house right in Goose Creek? So if he starts power school the 13th, you won't be in sc much longer! Unless he stays for proto. I thought there was proto school down there too. We are hoping our son will get into proto in NY because it would be probably 3 hours from home. where in california are you from? North? by the way, could you possibly be in NY for prototype?
yes our house is on base. the base houing isnt to great but its better than living in goose creek which to me is ghetto. we are hoping to stay here for proto, we wanted NY at first but since im due 2 days after his power school grad we dont want to move with a baby. im from the valley in california. if you put your finger in the very middle thats where my little cow town is at lol how is your son liking school? my husband said A school was pretty easy but he only had to do 3 months of it. and we like T track alot since he can be home with me and our son most of the week.
Jsparkle, I'm so sorry you're having such a bad time at GC. My son is ET and will graduate A school on Nov 4. He has decided not to come home this weekend because he wants to put a lot of study time in for the test on Tue. He messed up bad on one test and is now not graduating with honors but is determined to make the grade for distinction. I won't be able to get back to GC till spring because of my work schedule. We are really looking forward to seeing him forhis grad leave in Nov.
Sherry-my son is an ET as well. sounds like he's on the same schedule as your son. Graduates his first phase in Nov then on to power.Oh ya, mine is 1134!
Jsparkle-my son seems to really enjoy school. He's doing really good too. He enjoys the restaurants in charleston very much but he totally loves the bowling alley on base. He even bought himself a new ball last week. All in all he seems content. You're not fond of Goose creek huh? I've never been there. Congratulations on the new baby on the way!!!
Got a nice surprise from my boss yesterday. She is letting me have off Nov 4 so I can be in GC for A school grad. I know this graduation is not a big deal compared to Power School Grad. The main thing is that Corey needs a ride home for his leave and it is the perfect opportunity for me to have him all to myself for a few hours. Of course, the last time I drove up to get him, he slept the whole way home. Maybe I should let my dad go get him & I drive him back? Naw, I'd rather say hello at GC than goodbye.
Are there any sailors from the 5/6/11 PIR who are stationed in Norfolk and especially on the USS Enterprise? B is feeling somewhat homesick and would like to connect with others he "knows" or has things in common ~ i.e., bootcamp with the same PIR.
Soonergirl-I wish i could say my sailor was there for your son but he's just a bit further South in SC. I'll sure keep an eye and ear out and will check back if it turns out one of our 5/6 sailors is near B. Does he get to visit home any time soon?
Thanks jbird! Is your son in Charleston? My sister (10 years older) and brother-in-law (former Navy) were stationed in Charleston in the mid-70's. We was a computer tech (when the computers took up rooms of space) on the USS William H. Standley (destroyer CG-32). I spent a summer in Charleston with my sister and absolutely loved it ~ other than the humidity! B is switching to the security force division (ISF/NSF) within the next few weeks so we don't know at this time what leave, if any, he'll have for the holidays. The Enterprise will deploy some time early to mid 2012 and they'll do some short runs out starting in mid-January. Will you son be home for the holidays (or any other time in the near future)?
He is indeed in Charleston, well, actually goose creek. Our sailor loves the area where he is too except, like you, the humidity. It must get bad for him to say something about it..
Did B switch what he originally went in for? Has he had a visit home yet? Yes, our sailor gets his first leave in Nov. 10 days..YAYYY!! No time home for Christmas but I got to thinking about that..Maybe they'll get a few days off from school. Unlikely but never say never! That'll make it a very Happy Christmas!
Cant believe it has been a year since my sailor son graduated from bootcamp. Now Im excited to say that tomorrow my nephew will be graduating as well from bootcamp. Great job men!!!! I am very proud of you all and keeping the military going :)

Hi Ebigirl..congrats on your son marriage and being able to have him close to you. My son is an MA and stationed out in Silverdale, WA. Its nice that we are able to skype when we can. Hope things are improving for you :)
Carmen, your son is in my "backyard", so to speak. How is he liking the Pacific Northwest? It's been way too hot for this native in the past couple of weeks, but I will survive. Yes, things are finally looking up for me. My divorce is now final and I'm determined to start "living" again! How have you been?
Ebigirl, he is doing ok. We used to live in Lake Stevens for 4 years from 2001-2005. So he remembers some of it, only he wasnt used to the gloomy days. He is making the best of it. Im sure the heat is reminding him of home though :) Divorce is always the hardest, but Im sure its for the better. Im on my second marriage and going 22 years strong!!! It happens but you will be much stronger :) We are doing fine out here. Missing our son, but keeping in contact with him when HE can. We dont want to burden him in case he is working at the time. He has quite a few good friends that he has kept up with from BC and A School. That helps alot!! Glad you are doing well and remember, keep your chin up because it only gets better :)
I just wanted to let you know that my son is currently being Admin. discharged from the Navy Reserves. He left for bc exactly 3 years ago (March 9) and is waiting on his final paperwork for his discharge. Of course there is a very long story as to what led up to his being dischaged, and I won't bore you with all of the details. It was ultimately his decision to be discharged, but he isn't happy about it at all.
He had finally had enough of being lied to and put on report by his CO's for things that were either not true, out of his control, or just said/done to make his CO look better and climb the ladder faster. The nail in the coffin was back in Oct. of 2012 when he was involved in a car accident that totalled his car and happened the day before his scheduled monthly drill. He called his CO and explained the situation and was told not to worry about drill, he could make up the time at a later date. A week later he received a phone call from the same CO telling him that he was being written up for not showing up for drill. A couple of weeks after that 2 different CO's appeared at his place of employment to harass him and tell him he had two choices. Either leave the Seabee's and find some other detachment to join, or put in to be Admin. discharged. They gave him 24 hours to make his choice.
Long story short he chose to be dischaged. He had been lied to from the very beginning by his Recruiter, telling him that if he joined the Reserves he would get into and out of bc faster, and that he could "switch" to Full Time Active Duty right out of bc. We all know that this isn't true, and he didn't take the time to find out if it was. He was 19, excited to join the Navy, and thought that everything his Recruiter told him was true (as it SHOULD be, but isn't). He wanted to serve his country and get started yesterday.....
I will say that his almost 3 years in the Navy has been the BEST thing that could have ever happened to him. He thrived in bc, and this boosted his self esteem 200%!! He's a great guy and I am extremely proud to be his mom. He is married, has a job that he loves, and is very happy.
I plan on leaving my profile up and checking in from time to time. I thank ALL of you who made our Navy experience so special. Meeting many of you and attending PIR were a dream come true. I wouldn't change my Navy experience for anything in the world. I've said before that I had no idea that I would fall to pieces while he was in bc.....I've NEVER been so down and out before. This website and the awesome parent's involved made all the difference. I thank you all for everything!
Please thank your child/ren for me for their decision to serve their country.
Hi ebigirl,I'm very sorry to hear that your son has had such a rotten time of it! The things you've mentioned below are unfortunate and, well, just plain wrong.
I wish him all the best.
(PS It's their 2 year anniversary this month, isn't it?)
Good to hear from you Soonergirl! How's your sailor doing? Hi Valtameri! As a matter of fact ours just returned home yesterday, for about 8 days, after a 9 month deployment. So good to see him.

Hello again to everyone!

Three years ago today we were in Great Lakes watching our SR's become US Navy Sailors! It's amazing how fast the past 3 years have flown by!
