Brenda - we are in the same boat...at least some of it! It's really expensive to fly out of Alaska and for 24-28 hrs; for me, just wasn't possible.
But, the good new is there are so many wonderful people of this site and in our PIR group that will clap loud, give huggs, congratulations, pictures & even offer cell phones (you know who you are my friend! Thank you!) to help bring you to your Sailor. I'll be thinking of you and your Sailor on Friday!
Also I thought it might be a nice idea if those of us attending on Friday could share our pics with the rest of the group. We'll have similar photos, but we'll be seated in different areas and will different points of view. I plan on posting mine on snapfish and will make the album public. If we all do this, we'll be sure to get all the very best photos!
Thank you Caylex! I am looking forward to seeing my handome Sailor! I was just going to wait for the posting of PIR! I believe my Sailor is one of the Honor Recruits, so hoping for a really good picture of him!!
I send thanks to the rest of the group for helping me make my son feel good and sending my love for me! I would do it for anyone else if I was able to!
He is going to San Antonio ;) Which is still at least 3000 miles away!! So, I'm not sure I'll be able to get down there either. We are planning to go on a trip in February as long as he doesn't deploy...of course!
Carole with our group...her son is going to San Antionio also...her son is 275 as well. If you can you should go to San Antonio...it is nice! Mine is going to Fl
I had hoped for Virginia because my son would have been near my husband's best friend (our kids have always called him Uncle) or Florida because my brother-in-law and his family lives there ... wanted him to be near someone, but that is not the case. Texas is a very long way away from Michigan!
Jana lives in Tx, and our sons are in the same division. She offered very early on to invite my son along when she visits :) I asked my son if he would like that and he said "oh yeah!"
It amazes me daily, how wonderful everyone on this site is. I will never be able to say enough thank-you's!!
I recently discovered three that were going to San Antonio. I hope to get connected a little better when I have a bit more time. I'm just getting ready to begin my work day and have a daughter that has cheer practice/games all week! Doesn't leave much time for much else! I will be private messaging ya'll so maybe we can get our Sailors together on Friday. A picture of them together would be really neat! Oh, my mother is coming out in me again!! LOL...she is the sutterbug in the family! Anyhow...five minutes till work starts! Better get my coffee!
What time do the "I'm a sailor" calls usually start going out? We're hoping to get the call today if our SR passed his run yesterday and I was just wondering what time I need to start staring at the phone willing it to ring.
I didn't get the official "Im a Sailor" call yesterday....he called the girl he was dating....I take dto him Sat for about 45 mins...so I guess he thought that was good enough...lol
My daghter already told me that her boyfriend gets the first hug, but she said my hug will be longer. My friends at work told me that I should trip him so I can get to her first, LOL.
My son is going to Pensacola for his A School and he has said that he knows a few in his division that is going there with him!! I wish he could come closer to the west coast instead of even further away but now that he belongs to the Navy, I guess I don't get any say in where he goes!!
Sharon - I love the comment about leaving her in Chicago - that's priceless!! I guess I'm just lucky enough that my son's girlfriend is not going so I don't have to worry about running her over to get to him first!!!
My daughter's boyfriend just graduated from BC, so she can't call him, or hug him first...so that leaves ME!!! I will be tripping and pushing people down, if anyone tries to get to her first.
Any woman worth her salt would differ to her man's mom first! I would expect it! I did not get a call yesterday, but am extreamly happy he spoke to learn that he spoke to his family first. I can wait! I was lucky to receive letters during his time at BC. So, there are a few of us "girlfriends" out there that know Mom is always first! My boy is 15...and I'm still "Mommy" in his eyes :). Ok I said I was gonna work!
You ladies are tickling me over the first hug thing!! I've been in stitches the last few minutes reading these posts! Needed that!
My little boy already told me that he loves me and all, but he ain't waiting for me to find his "sis". She's 20 and he's 10, but they are thicker than thieves! He's at that age where you aren't supposed to hug your mom or sister in public....it isn't cool! He told me the other day.."mama, when I see sis, I'm gonna give her the biggest hug ever...and I don't care who's looking!" Thought that was so sweet. As to who gets to her first....well....we'll just have to see! LOL!!
LOL...trip him...Kira's mom that is funny. I will be nice about my son's gf...she is insecure and immature I guess. He will always be my son and not always her bf...sounds mean but you have to know the story and the history of it.
I know if I was there....I would be one big mess...crying, excited and in awe of our Sailors! I think I would have to hug everyone of the kids that I know who they are from the moms on here! lol
My hubby is very sick so I hope he is the one to get the hug first ;) It would mean the world to him. I've gotten lots of "I miss you terribly, I love you more than you know" in letters and phone calls. So this once I'll step aside for the first hug, unless he comes to me first ;) No girlfriend to deal with right now either. He kept saying "Yes Ma'am". So proper! lol!
A couple weeks ago, my daughter (16 yr) said "Mom, I'm so glad Alex didn't have a girlfriend when he left". If he had, I know some things would be different. For one, the girlfriend would be #4 on the list instead of my sister.
Ok, I never ever want to feel another earthquake. I can't believe we just had an earthquake in Maryland. 5.8 was big enough to scare me. Things were falling off the shelves in our apartment, roof sounded like it was going to cave in, (I'm on top floor) so I ran outside to get out of the building. Convinced me that I will never want to live in CA.
I just got an email from my youngest daughter in VA! Phones aren't working. But she said it was 5.9, things fell off the shelves, windows broken. Then I got a call from my older daughter here in NY, their building shook and they have been evacuated.
I think the thing I am most looking forward to at PIR is to see all of the new sailors walking in and to see all of the pround parents/family members/girlfriends/boyfriends that will be sitting in the crowd waiting for them! Not to mention having the 5 of us together for the day!!
Earthquake was felt here in MI too (not by me, but in my town. I kind of felt something, but assumed it was a plane or something going over. So can't say for sure I felt it)
We definitely felt it here. There are buildings damaged and everyone here ran outside. I live in an apartment on the 4th floor (top) and it felt like the entire building was going to collapse. I got out of here fast. My poor doggy didn't know what was going on. It was so strange seeing all the squirrels running around and not knowing where to go.
Sharon - it sounds like you described Arizona - we occasionally have the after shocks from California earthquakes and we definitely have the fire season!! Oh and we also have the "Haboobs" now (new term for dust storms this year). We don't have tornados - we have mircro bursts - just a damaging though!!
Do you have a son or daughter graduating this Friday but you are unable to attend? If you want pass this along to them if you can. Look for the guy with all the cameras around his neck sitting in a wheel chair. We'll take them out for an official Chicago style pizza and hug their neck for you.

No calls yet?? I keep calling home to ask my husband "did he call?" As if he wouldn't call me to tell me he did ;)
As for hugs, so long as I get a good one I don't care what number I am ;)

I almost forgot the question of the day!
What part of PIR are you most looking forward to? (not the seeing your SR, that is too obvious)
I think the overwhelming level of patriotism is going to be awesome! So much pride for our Sailors and our country all in one place!!

I am glad y'all are safe and no injuries.
Our friends in DC were terrified too. She said her brick house was swaying side to side. She grabbed her kids and ran out of the house.
