Mine said there isn't one that she heard of so far so I am not planning it.

  • JGMom

I talked to my sailor a few days ago.  He said he didn't know yet when they will return.  I am trying to get a date so I can look into flights out to Virginia.  Have a good weekend everyone!

  • smld

I am trying to get dates too. My sailor said they told them they may find out more info in the upcoming few weeks. I believe once they set a date, it's pretty concrete. I have two sons, both sailors, two different ships. My other sailor was onboard the USS T. Roosevelt and they returned in November right on the scheduled date, but the date wasn't set in stone until about a month before they returned. So I am anxiously awaiting news! It's been tough having my sons gone out back to back. They haven't seen each other since Dec. 2014 before son #1 left for deployment! So we are VERY excited about a reunion.

  • Bernapet

Smld...not sure how you do it! As tough as it must be, you must be so proud! Yes, I am crazy waiting for the date too!
  • Pitbullboys

I don't know how you ladies do it with 2 sons or daughters away so much. I tip my hat off to you all and a standing ovation, you are very brave and proud moms. I only have one son in the Navy and I have not seen him since 2012 when he left for Japan and stayed there until last year. I was going to see him when the ship comes in and he said he will be too busy for me to come out. That hurt so much, but I understand. I look forward to having all our sailors back on US territory safe and sound. God bless everyone

Hello everyone! I hope you're doing well! I was just going through pics I'd saved from last deployment! I have to laugh again..."That's a lot of chicken"! LOL

Sending prayers up for you and family!

This is my daughters 2nd. deployment.  The first time I had to watch on live stream.  This time I am going to be there. I am coming from California and will be traveling by myself.  Kind of nervous, but I am up for it. I have been saving my pence to do this as I don't want to miss this again.  I know there is a place to stay near or on the base.  Can someone give me this info. so when I book my flight I can book this also, please?

  • 2ndTimeAround

Hi All :)     I'm also planning on be there for homecoming but, not sure of best place to stay and best place to be. lol, I survived being the young daughter of a sailor on deployment and survived being a wife of a sailor on deployment but, boy...things sure have changed for this mom of a sailor!  Will I be allowed on the pier?  Do I need to be "on a list" or, will I have to wait off base?  Any advice/opinions on where to stay to maximize my visit with my son?   ~so excited!   we're almost there!   :)

  • Bernapet

Yes, I'm open to any tips too. I talked to my sailor today...makes my whole day. He said the port was fun...I love to hear that. Love hearing how busy they are and all the amazing things he is getting to do. Gosh I love those sailors!
  • DonnaEricsMom

Hello all, I guess my son is being flown out to the ship with a few others this week. It'll be his first deployment. Any advice?
  • Redsmom

Sure glad you asked that question regarding deployment advice.  My son is flying out soon too.

Donna, Look at Truman Deployment November 2015 listed above.  It gives so much information.  It also gives the address to use if you send items or letters to your sailor.  You will need the Box# for your sailor.  I hope this helps!

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!  Been enjoying having my {former} sailor home.  College Son graduated on Saturday and it was wonderful to have the whole family together!  I am one happy momma right now ;-)

Definitely look at the Truman Deployment link above.  You should find it helpful.  And just remember to remind your sailor to be flexible!

Hope everyone is doing well.....you are one day closer!

  • DonnaEricsMom

JGMom Thanks I did read that and sent him tons of information.  We're both just stressed because it's the first deployment and we feel unprepared.

  • DonnaEricsMom

Thanks B'sNuke, I'll pass that along.

  • durrichShip03/Div354

Donna....tell your sailor to check with his ship sponsor b4 he flies out to see if he suggest a anything.  Do tell him to pack shower shoes, and some handiwipes..  the good thing is he won't be gone that long and may also see a really nice port on the way home.  There's also FB truman page you can go to.

  • Bernapet

Donna, lucky you, only a few months of deployment. From what I have seen...the sailors make any new comers feel at home. My son loves his deployment, what an awesome experience for them all. Well, maybe not for us...but we hang in there. You found a good group, so welcome aboard!
  • JGMom

BNukes's mom,  Very nice family pics.  Congrats to both your son's!  Thanks for sharing.

  • DonnaEricsMom

Durrich - thank you for the information

Bernapet - thanks for the kind words, they do help a lot.

  • Lorabelllee

Evening ladies! How is everyone holding up? It won't be long now! My son will be rejoining the ship tomorrow after the last several months on land. I can't tell you how relieved I am!

Donna my son joined the ship toward the end of the last deployment. It was a nice introduction to what a deployment actually is all about. You are lucky tho. I didnt know about this website till he was leaving on THIS deployment. He's been in the Navy 5 years now and I'm just meeting you all and getting information I wish I would have had during Boot Camp!  That's a son for you! (or at least MY son!)   Anyway...One Step Closer!

  • GT_Gal

Haven't checked in for a while. Welcome new moms. We are one day closer.
  • Redsmom

My son will be leaving to join the Truman soon.  Any advice on things he might need/want to have with him?  Anything he can/cannot bring?  Thank you for mentoring me!  I'm glad he will be joining such a great bunch!

  • JGMom

Lorabelllee~  Glad your son is back on the Truman!  This site was a life saver for me when my sailor was in Boot Camp.  He was not good at giving me info so the moms on the site really helped me out!  Have a great weekend everyone!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Friday!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

    You are one day closer......

  • Bernapet

I saw someone posted on the Truman deployment page, that they will be staying out longer? :-(
  • GT_Gal

FRG posted something saying Update will be posted on the Truman fb page
  • Bernapet

Yup, they just posted it on the official navy page, 30 extra days!
  • Bernapet

I know it's their job, but it makes me sad too!
  • encourager

Are you guys okay? Oh my heavens, I'm devastated!
  • JGMom

Thanks for the update on dates.  I had not heard.  Sending prayers and good wishes to all our sailors and hope I hear from mine soon.

  • BrittanyandMadal

So deeply saddened. My son too is on the Truman. Was already planning our family vacation to welcome him back home. 30 more days.. UGH!
    Give 'em hell!!!
  • Lorabelllee

Awwww I hate to hear this! I shall be praying for our sailors and hope that they don't extend any longer. If anyone hears anything more please let us know. My son never put me on the FRG newsletter so I'm a bit in the dark. Thanks!

  • jbird

Hi everyone and welcome to all the new moms- I've been mia a bit but still enjoy reading the conversation. I did receive an email from our son sharing the news. Can't believe it but they'll be ok. will we??  I know we'll hang tough with them. I think the military is cut thinner these days, perhaps that has something to do with it but extensions are very common too. I haven't heard back from our son yet but I did ask his thoughts on this. Of course we don't talk details but we'll get the scoop soon. Good example of how we need to be flexible about our planning because you never know what can change. I did ask my son if there's anything he needs me to send for the extra time, we'll see. He always says thanks but no thanks.

Encourager-don't feel devistated. I know how disappointing it is but in the grand scheme, though a bit delayed, our guys and girls ARE coming home and that's something to look forward to. Hang in there, K?

    Blessings to all

  • Bernapet

    Well said Jbird.
  • Bernapet

    Well said Jbird.
  • sheis22 Ship 02 Div. 932

Thanks jbird for your comforting words. I too am sad, but we will survive. I think it will be harder on some of our Sailors than others.  I know my daughter was really looking forward to going to a graduation for her brother and a 1st. birthday party for her nephew, but it is what it is and we can't change it.  For me it will give me more time to save more money for the trip as I am coming from California and more vacations hours which will help.  My motto is "Be safe and Stay Strong" which btw I did send my daughter a t-shirt that says "Stay Strong for me". I ordered it on Customink.com, they have great prices.  Anyway, everyone we are still one day closer.

  • lmnadelady

Yes, well said Jbird. Give em hell!

  • jbird

    Thank you bernapet, and sheis22

IMNlady- I think someone else said that but thanks anyway.

Sheis22-ok I knew someone was coming from California and was talking about booking flights, I bet that was you. This planning for travel reminds me so much of bootcamp and the waiting and wondering and do I book flights or wait. Military family life, right? You're right on, be safe and stay strong. Their well being and safe return is #1.

Our youngest is graduating too and now his sailor bro will miss it. Dog gone! One thing I really do hope is that this is the only extension. But again, their safety #1.

I'm grateful for this HST page and all of you. Sometimes I only "listen" but it's still important.

  • jbird

Imnadelady- It was BrittanyandMadal who said give em hell.

I join you in saying well said.

  • durrichShip03/Div354

I read everything and only comment every so often but want to say how proud I am of all of you and how proud I am to be   a truman navy mom.   This is our 2nd deployment so the thought of a shorter time was wonderful.....but I also knew the needs of the navy might change things.  I'm sorry for what our sailors might miss by not coming home as planned.....but am keeping good thought for summer !!!!

  • jbird

    nice comment durrich.

I heard back from our sailor son and he said it's especially difficult for the husbands and wives who are separated from eachother and from their kids. As for him, he said it just means more money for him which isn't a bad attitude. He didn't sound upset as far as himself, just for the families. If you knew my son you'd realize that for him to say that shows that he has gained some compassion. He's one of those stoic, few words, little emotion kind of guys. He's still awesome of course, ha ha. His two brothers are complete opposites. I guess my point was that maybe being around different guys and girls and seeing their emotions, missing their loved ones etc, has had an effect on him. That's good though. sorry all, don't mean to ramble on.

  • jbird

And durrich, me too! Proud to be a Truman Navy mom and really appreciate all of you and your thoughts and comments. We have a connection via our wonderful sailors.

    (((((((HST Group hug!!)))))

  • encourager

I cried for sure but trust in God's timing.
  • jbird

Can't go wrong with that plan encourager

  • durrichShip03/Div354

Encourager.....know you're not crying alone but days will move quickly!!!

  • Bernapet

I got the best email from my cousin today whose dad and himself were career military....he sent his condolences that my sailor had to stay out longer, but said he would have been more surprised if they came in on time with what is going on. My tears are falling too, but my pride keeps me going! Let's stay strong, and keep our sailors in our prayers. (And Reiki in my house!)
  • Carol Ann

Ladies, Just saw the news about yours sons and daughters having to stay out a little while longer. I know how disappointing this news must be for you all and wanted to give you all great big Navy Mom hugs. I am praying for them all to remain safe and  for the remaining time to go quickly for you all. My son served 2 deployments with the Truman and the first was 7 months, the 2nd 9 months, and that one was an eternity.

  • Bernapet

Got a call from my sailor today, I really needed it. He said they were bummed of the news, but know there is a job to be done. Where did all this mature strength come from? I told him I cried, and he said...I had no doubt mom...but just stay strong, we will be home soon. Wow, from boy to man in 6 months. So proud of them all! So glad to have you all...see you in VA soon!
