Thanks my Navy Moms , we are a hardy bunch!! Spoke to my son and he was mature too. I'm hoping you all will get a little package because of Mothers Day, I got mine today. And Bernapet, they did mature...truly they are all adults and ladies and gentlemen! Love our Sailors so much.
  • Lorabelllee

I heard from my son today as well. He was off the ship from shortly after Christmas to two days ago. I am much happier with him back onboard. :-) He hasnt slept well the last few weeks but said his first day back in his rack he crashed and slept 10 hours! That's my boy!  He is glad to be reunited with his buddies and tho he knows we all want them home he is sure this last bit will go fast. So...hang in there ladies...We got this! I can't wait to be in VA welcoming the whole crew home! Love our sailors! <3

  • Bernapet

Anyone here been there when a ship comes in? I want to hear about it so I can think about that instead of the delay. Do we wait by the shore for hours an the ship comes in slow?
  • Lorabelllee

I've never been there so I can't help. I have heard it's awesome tho! I was told to make signs! I also heard it takes them forever to get off the ship. I can imagine with so many sailors! I can't wait!

Just saw that we lost a Navy Seal to ISIS.    :-(  <3

  • DonnaEricsMom

I don't mean to sound stupid, but where does everyone get the news updates, like the one Betsy just posted?

  • Betsy

    I got it from CNN

  • DonnaEricsMom

    Thanks Betsy

Homecoming, I've was there last deployment. Similiar in mood to PIR. So much emotion but so many more people there, ITS CRAZY. Doesn't matter how long it takes them to get off the ship, the excitement nothing can match. New fathers get off first & go to a private reception area to meet their new little one. Whether your sailor gets 1st or 2nd leave time, it is a MUST SEE. Easy for me to say cause it is only a 5 hour drive for me.

Sign up for Google alerts & put in the key word USS Harry S Truman. Any & every news article with that subject you will get an email alert to the article. There are other sources for news but that is probably the best one. I also get emails of anything breaking news for the Navy. Hope this helps

I heard from my sailor last night at 1 am.  So good to hear from him.  He didn't seem too disappointed that they are staying out longer.  Said he was doing well.  He is happy we plan to be there for homecoming.  I can't wait and hope to meet some of you there.  I'm sure it will be very emotional and something I don't want to miss.

So sorry to hear about a Navy Seal was lost to ISIS.

    Stay strong ladies.

  • DonnaEricsMom

Thank you too tall Joan that worked great.

  • Lorabelllee

Thoughts and prayers to the family of the Navy Seal that was killed in Iraq. I am thankful my son is back aboard the ship as that was too close for comfort for me. I'm very sad for this loss.
Navy strong! God bless our sailors and all service men and women protecting us near and far. Godspeed.

  • Carol Ann

Lorabellee: Do you mind my asking what your son does or can you say?

  • Carol Ann

durrichShip: I completely understand. That is why I asked. My son was a Nuke. Just was wondering in a general way. Not trying to bring on a problem.

too tall Joan, Thanks for the outlook about Homecoming! I can't wait! My family is so anxious! My son is in good spirits about the extension and is keeping a great attitude. Do you have any advice for the Hotels in Norfolk? I've seen other places like Chesapeake and Suffolk but not sure how far that is from base. The last time we visited we stayed in Virginia Beach and it is a lot more expensive.

  • too tall Joan

My sailor & her husband live in Virginia beach so I get to stay with them. All of those communities that you mentiones are right there together in close proximity
  • Redsmom

I'm officially a "Truman Mom" as my son has deployed to join your sailors.  I've been impressed with the strong family bonds I've seen here and know he will be with good folks as co-workers and new friends.  I tend to be someone who likes quotes, so I will leave you with this one for today:  “I think we dream so we don’t have to be apart for so long. If we’re in each other’s dreams, we can be together all the time.”  -- A. A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh  :-)

  • DonnaEricsMom

Welcome Redsmom . . . I love that quote!!  Thanks for sharing and welcome aboard.  I'm a new mom to the Truman also.

  • BoomMom

I had my first phone call in a while from my sailor.  He was flown off the Truman by helicopter to another ship in our strike group for a couple days to do some type of work with a few people on that ship (vague enough?).  He really liked the smaller ship and said he encountered all of 20 people in the entire day.  Must have been very interesting.  His wife and son are still in town visiting so we are enjoying some time with them.  The deployment extension is especially hard on those with families.  Welcome to all the new-comers.  Have a great rest of your week, everyone.

  • Bernapet

    Welcome Redsmom!
  • too tall Joan

BoomMom that would be a different experience. Glad he's back safely

Welcome new mommas. Love the quotes, thanks
  • Annams

I mailed a care package from Northern Michigan to my son on 4/27 and he received it 5/4 in the morning!!!  That has to be a record for speedy delivery :)

  • Carol Ann

Wow Annams-THAT is quick! My quickest was 6 days from OH.  Boom Mom: I agree! My son even agreed with that- the families have it the worst-especially those with children. You can't gain back the precious time you lost watching them grow up and missing events in their lives. And yes, I think you are vague enough. You can bet I won't be asking any questions about it either-lol!Welcome to  the New Moms! Yes, this is a great group!

  • JGMom

Hi Everyone and welcome new mom's!  When I heard from my sailor he mentioned a new address?  I have a package to mail him.  Has anyone heard of a new change?

Hang in there.  I agree it would be very difficult for Sailors with young children.

  • too tall Joan

Annams that has to be a record. I mailed one Tuesday morning and it is already to Chicago headint to the ship.

Carol Ann when OPSEC was thrown out there to you, I had seen nothing that would be put in question. You've been around long enough to know what's right/wrong.

JGMom I've heard nothing of a new address
  • Carol Ann

Too Tall: Thanks for being nice. I had never had anyone scold me before for that in the 6 years my son was in, but I did understand why. I think that person wanted to halt me before something was said that shouldn't be. With all that's going on and the nerves of some being stretched with worry and stress I completely understood and took it with a grain of salt. The mother I had asked the question of actually responded to me aside and answered my question and told me not to worry about offending anyone. Even had another one reach out to me aside too and tell me the same thing. All is good. I don't hold grudges. I only wish the BEST for you all and your children and understand completely what the worry is like. And believe me, I am a Momma Bear too when it comes to my children!

Carol Ann  sorry if you were offended about my ??  And opsec.i just react based on what my 2 sons caution me on in particular related to any jobs or interest based on this being  an open view site......as a military family for over 20 years I am very cautious .. God bless you all.

  • Carol Ann

DurrichShip:  No offense was taken. I was just surprised by your comment cuz I didn't think I had said anything that was against the OPSEC rules. All is good. Appreciate your apology. I too apologize back for causing you to worry. Yes, God bless you all! My comments below were to try to make light of a potentially tense/awkward situation.

  • 1Bodyprof

Does anyone know if our Sailors can buy pics of awards that happen while on ship? or are they just in the cruise book?

  • Lorabelllee

Happy Cinco De Mayo ladies! Hope this finds everyone enjoying Spring and May and flowers and warm breezes and everything! I don't expect much from my son for Mothers Day but I do think he will at least email me (assuming he remembers). That's OK tho..I know I'll be seeing him again soon-ish and I have lots to look forward to.  Raise your margarita glasses high ladies...One Day Closer! *clink* Cheers!

received a delivery shortly after getting home from work this evening.  It was these beautiful flowers sent by my sailor daughter.  Of course I cried my eyes out.  Then my husband told me out to eat and to the movies to see Mother's Day...more tears.  Happy Mother's Day all you beautiful ladies.  One day closer

  • too tall Joan

1BodyProf when my sailor won Warrior of the Day, she was given pics of her getting the award and then they mailed them to my house along with the award.  But your sailor should know if they are being mailed to you or not
