It's a neat morning for us... I just got a text from my daughter-in-law who said our son was woken up today and given an award for something... No clue what for, but we'll take it. They ALL deserve awards for what they do. He asked if the picture (yet to see on Truman FB) could go on the refrigerator. Too cute. She said no, as it would be framed and hung on the wall. Another day down ladies. Stay strong.
Congrats BoomMom! What a great way to wake up! We are almost there! I'm so proud of each and every one of our sailors and crew aboard the Truman. They have done great work! I can't wait to see it come home!
I talked with my sailor for the first time in over a month. Seems they have been busy with long hours which, I would hope, makes the time pass quickly for them. He didn't mention an outbreak of flu. He did mention that they have a big board with a map on it and they are putting "we are here" pins in it to track their progress. One day closer for them too! Ha!
Having never met a ship, what happens? Can we actually visit with our sailors? How much time off do they usually have to visit (hours, days, a week)? I'm sure they are given leave and not everyone gets to go at once, so any info you can safely share would be appreciated.
Been enjoying Hawaii - heading home today. Saw the post with the date - YIKES! I posted on her page too asking her to remove it. Hope it's taken down soon....hope everyone is well.
You are one day closer....
Redsmom..I have never met a ship before either but this is what I know. Yes, we get to visit and I understand that they all get a few days off (except maybe those that stand duty?) They have split leave and I believe my son said he has the first one and it's generally 2 weeks much like it was before they left on deployment. I understand it's a BIG deal and I can't wait. Someone told me to bring signs and such to welcome them home! The way I understand it is it take a LONG time to unload all those sailors...the ones with new babies go first, married ones next and single ones last. Makes sense to me...but my son is single... :-( If anyone has any other info I would love to hear it as well. Haven't spoken or heard from my son for a week now.
Glad you had a great time in Hawaii B's Safe travels home!
Thanks Lorabelllee! I'm still confused, though. You said a few days off then you said 2 weeks. Is it one or the other? Both? A few at first then a couple weeks later? Sorry for so many questions!!
Redsmom..I am under the impression that they get 3 or 4 days off...but those that have leave first (the first 2 weeks) I believe it starts maybe the day after the ship gets in? That is what I understand from my son..as it stands he has leave the first 2 weeks...starting the day after the ship comes in.I'm hoping to convince him to stick around for a few days as I could sure benefit from a few days on VA Beach! haha

Donna, this is the link to the Truman FRG page:
https://www.facebook.com/TrumanFRG/?fref=nf
They have info posted about how your sailor can get you on the official FRG mailing list for the newsletter if you'd like to do that as well.
